i think ppl saw 2019 to 2022-23 up until the gaming channel return as dan wanting to distance himself from the Dan And Phil branding? and i mean it's partly true, particularly in that dnp™️ were primarily for a teen audience (i know in spite of all the horniness but like tabinof was published with a children's book publisher) and dan wanted to include his much raunchier sense of humor as well as be "taken seriously" for things like his mental health book and the tv show stuff. but sometimes i think ppl saw that as dan like, de-valuing the impact of Dan And Phil when that couldn't be further from the truth ykwim? "the real ones? they know." like phil has always done his own thing alongside being part of Dan And Phil, but for dan, emotionally, he was still trying to establish his identity and not just like coming out as gay but just figuring out who the fuck he is! and once he found something he felt a true passion for, he went for it and is still going for it in his solo pursuits, but the gaming channel coming back as this BIG THING is still significant. i think part of the return (on dan's end) is like. fuck it man, if people aren't going to take him seriously either way, then they might as well have fun and be horny on their silly joint channel anyway
