Same anon as before! 12 (my second lucky number >:3) and favorite book/song/media of choice and why? (Also...any book or song recommendations?☆)
Ooh, good number to pick. My name is Montgomery Brookstone. No, I'm not a fan child, I'm Ninja-less version of Lloyd.
Now, obviously, comic books (in universe), I love the Starfarer series. Chaotic adventures that takes place in space? Sign me up! It was a chance to escape reality when I was in Darkly's, helped me become more immune to things people find squeamish (like blood, mutilation, body horror- I love that stuff because of Starfarer)
My favorite out-of-source (aka, IRL) form of media is a lot of fanfiction and music! Oh, I love music so much! It's so incredible! My music pick tends to be a mixed bag of pop-rock, electronic, and incomprehensible creepy vibes!
For my favorite fanfics, it has to be: atlas by @splinnters (on both here and tumblr, love it so much <3), uhhh this small collection of Dragon Smith Siblings by Itz_frickin_WIMDY because dragons <3, and And They Were Housemates by kooki18 (warning for this one: explicit material in some chapters (MARKED AND LABELED, THANKFULLY), and sexual innuendos). I'll be honest, that last one is because it's an AU for polyninja that's just SO COOL! It's HYBRIDS!
For music wise: WOOSH MAN! Alright! Electronic is just the entirety of 'Just Shapes and Beats' soundtrack (be careful if wanting to watch a playthrough: flashing lights, the game has an epilepsy warning), but I love 'Destroid' by Annihilate (the second to last boss battle song), it vaguely reminds of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which is amazing to me. Also love 'Barracuda' by Noisestorm!
Vocaloid is also incredible because- Ahh??? Like?? How?? UGH! I love it so much! 'Bad Apple' SPECIFICALLY covered by Ashe and Rockeetist?? That duo of voice is- mwah. Love it. 'Echo', both original and covered by Jubyphonic are also good. 'Shinitai Chan' also covered by Jubyphonic is good (songs also known as 'Miss Wanna Die'). Annnd there's one mor- OH! 'Amygdala's Rag Doll' by GHOST! I LOVE THAT ONE! The incomprehensible tones and words, the overall vibes that feels creepy and threatening yet comforting and soothing all at once??? Yessss, I love it!
AND THEN! Want to steer away from creepy?? What something powerful??? 'Resistance', 'Rise', 'Not Gonna Die', 'Circus for a Psycho'- All by Skillet! Rockstar introduced me to them, and WOW! You want some good rock music recommendations?? Talk with him, he's your music man! He's more natural voiced rather than electronic/robotic like I am, but it's amazing! Also really enjoy 'Go To War' by Nothing More, THATS a war vibe right there.
Okay, okay- I've rambled on enough! Thank you for the ask!

Tumblr media
When you've gathered a couple pans and utensils, you scurry back to the baker. The moment to yourself made things a bit easier to hide. But the thought of Jungkook's closeness still presses against your mind's backdoor. When you return, it's even harder to ignore. He's meticulously counting ingredients, lips pursed in an adorable manner. He's organized the containers around him, with the portable stovetop in front. In the makeshift kitchen, he's completely at home as he chops protein for the Tteokguk. Sleeves rolled up to his elbows, the beautiful array of ink is on display. He sits cross-legged, oddly domestic in front of the bakery.
"You just gonna stand there, or are you going to get down here and help me?"
You shake your head and walk towards the dimly-lit space. On the way, you admire the colorful array of rainbow lights around you. "They really went all-out with the Lunar New Year decor, didn't they?"
Jungkook takes the pans and utensils you offer him, muttering a swift thank you. "They're pretty. I think they give the space a nice ambiance."
As he measures ingredients, you remove the blanket from your shoulders, fold it several times over, and use it as a cushion. Jungkook's skilled hands work on measuring the oils and spices, along with a healthy dose of soy sauce. He places each ingredient in small bowls and sets them off to the side.
"How'd you get the power for the stovetops?"
"The generator's through the door behind the bakery," he replies. "I plugged it in and borrowed some from that." He nods to the bottled water at his side. "Can you get some water going on the stove? Fill it up halfway. That should be enough."
"Then we add the brisket, right?" It takes four or five bottles before the pot on the largest of the three burners is to your liking. "I barely remember this from when Mom used to make it."
Jungkook smiles up at you as he offers a smaller dish of protein. His arm maneuvers around the burner, avoiding the heat source to not risk any burns. "And the garlic."
You shake your head, and after the water begins to boil, you add both ingredients. "It's a good thing you remember this, Gym Bunny. Otherwise, we'd both starve."
"No need to thank me for that," he snickers. "What you should be thanking me for is coming back for you at all. I could've stayed at your nice, warm apartment with the damn cat, but no. I braved the winter storm—"
"—Like an idiot—"
"—To save your ass. You're welcome."
"Maybe you should've stayed with Elizabeth the 3rd, then! I could've made it out on my own, or found this place, and would've had some nice peace and quiet."
Jungkook rolls his eyes. As he reaches for a knife, placing the edge of the sharp blade against the green onion, he winces. The painful twitch of both his expression and his fingers isn't lost on you. He tries to grip the knife again, and when you glance down, you see his fingers are still tinged red from the cold. That hour he spent trekking from your apartment to the flower shop took a toll on him. It's one that he's refused to acknowledge.
"Dumbass," you mutter under your breath. Reaching across, you take the utensil from his tattooed hands. You slide the makeshift cutting board (an upside-down plate) over to your side of the little kitchen. "Stop trying to grip things. Your fingers are still half-frozen."
Jungkook relents, which surprises you in and of itself. He doesn't comment on the state of his hands. He only moves onto the next task of separating the egg yolks from the whites.
Your attention shifts from the green onions up to your best friend. It's difficult not to be caught off-guard by his silence. "You okay, Kookie?"
The brunet's dark eyes move up to yours, and he gives a soft smile. "Yeah, I'm okay. Sorry, didn't realize they were still hurt...and you know how I feel about not being able to do things."
You finish the chopping and set the greens aside. "Don't beat yourself up about it. You need to learn to lean on others from time to time. A little teamwork won't kill you."
"It won't?"
A loud laugh slips out at his snide comment, which brings back Jungkook's adorable smile. He continues to tell you what to prep next, and as the minutes pass, you find yourself slipping into a rhythm with him. It's not the first time you've cooked together; far from it. Between after-school study sessions in high school, midnight mental health breakdowns in college, and post-education hangouts, the two of you have made a mess plenty of times. Much to Yoongi's dismay.
A chuckle slips out at the sudden resurgence of those college-era memories. "What do you think Yoongi would say if he saw us here right now, trying to make Tteokguk in the middle of a supermarket?"
Jungkook giggles as he adds the rice cakes to the boiling brisket and water, along with most of the spices and oils. "He'd probably just roll his eyes and warn us to clean up or he'd bury our bodies in the woods. His reaction doesn't scare me as much as Seokjin's."
The mention of your mutual friend causes you to double-over in laughter. Seokjin, the most traditional Korean man you know, would be horrified. "He'd probably just...die."
"But not before he'd scream at us," Jungkook adds, raising the large wooden spoon and gesturing to you. His eyes widen and he changes his voice to mimic Seokjin's satoori. "You can't just cook Tteokguk like that! What are you thinking? You're lucky you're not my son or I would have disowned you if I saw you using pre-made, frozen rice cakes! Hey! Stop it! I raised you better than this!"
The impression is spot-on, so much so that it has you gasping for air and red in the face from laughing. Tears burn your eyes, and you wave your hand at Jungkook, a silent plead for him to stop. You're unlucky enough that your best friend is a slight sadist and enjoys seeing you lose your mind.
"If you think it's so funny to cheat out on a thousand years of Korean cuisine history, then go ahead! But not in my house, and you have to be obedient to me because I'm an older person!"
"Stop, stop, stop," you gasp, curling in on yourself as you fall over onto the soft blanket. "It. Hurts."
Jungkook continues his impression. His expression and voice grow more dramatic as time goes on. "Is this the thanks I get for buying your meals, huh? Do you know how many times I did that when you were a broke college freshman? I can't even count on my fingers! I don't have enough! I can't calculate! Because I secretly can't count!"
"Jeon Jungkook!" you rasp, smiling so wide your face hurts. "Please, god, stop."
Finally, he relents, voice shifting to a collection of giggles. Your breathing returns to normal, and your facial redness subsides. "You okay there, Flower Child?"
"I will kill you."
Jungkook smirks as he begins to add the final ingredients to the Tteokguk. "Highly doubt that. Especially with the Tteokguk almost done!"
Pulling yourself back into a seated position, you give Jungkook a pouty expression. "You promised me Hwajeon." You hold up a container of edible flowers.
The brunet chuckles at your childish expression. He rolls his sleeves up a little farther, showing more of his tattoo sleeve in the process. He pushes the bag of flour to your side of the burners. "Have at it then. I'll finish up the Teokguk while you fry the cakes."
Your smile widens and you take the ingredients with eager hands. As you measure, Jungkook begins final preparations for the meal. He adds nori and strips of fried egg yolks. The smells that fill the supermarket are divine. For a moment, you forget the situation that brought you here. The blizzard outside. The lack of power. The fact that you're trapped in the store until morning. None of it matters anymore. Jeon Jungkook has always had that effect on you; he excels at making people forget their problems and sadness. It's one of the reasons you missed him more than life while spending time as an exchange student.
"What're you thinking about?" he asks, after a moment of silence.
Shrugging your shoulders, you begin to roll the ball of warm dough into smaller balls and prep them for frying. "Just about the past year. A lot's happened." You take a few of the edible flowers and press one into the flattened face of each bough ball. "A lot's changed."
Jungkook nods his agreement, once again stirring the pot. When he speaks again, his voice is softer. "How do you feel about your last semester at university?"
"Glad it's finally almost done," you scoff. "Been a long time coming. I loved traveling abroad, but it made me realize that what I have here with my friends, with the shop...this is home. Once the three of us graduate, I bet business will pick up."
Jungkook's shoulders relax, and he sighs in a way that almost sounds relieved. "So you think you're with those two idiots for the long-haul, huh?"
Thinking of Hoseok and Yoongi brings a sentimental smile to your face. You toss the first round of flattened dough into the oiled skillet. "I think so. We all work together well, and I love Seoul. I don't see myself living anywhere else, really. As a small business owner, you know what I mean when I say you're kinda anchored to your business."
"At least you have an online aspect," he snickers. Reaching for the serving bowls, he nods his chin towards the front of the store, as if to his gym across the street. "Can't exactly work out virtually."
"Ha! I wish."
"But I get what you mean, and honestly? I'm glad to hear it. I was kinda worried you'd end up loving the U.S. and...I don't know, want to move out of Korea or something."
As you flip the Hwajeon over, your gaze drifts upward. Jungkook's hair hangs over his eyes, but under that, you can see a rosy blush spread across his cheeks. His lip is between his teeth as he focuses on pouring the soup without spilling. If you didn't know better, you'd say he was embarrassed.
"Would you miss me if I did?"
The question comes out without you thinking too hard about it. From the way Jungkook keeps his eyes away from yours, you second-guess if it was the right thing to ask. God knows it could be read into pretty easily. But the little feeling in the back of your mind, the one you'd locked away, has found a lock-pick. It's desperately trying to free itself. It wants to know the answer. For that reason, you wait with bated breath for a response.
"Like hell," he admits. "You're my best friend. I go to you about everything. I...don't know what my life would be like if I didn't have you in it, to be honest."
His words are sentimental, filled with truth, and drag out a complex array of feelings. You're both elated and terrified. Mostly the former, but the tiny prick of dread in your chest won't go away. Your realization from earlier in the evening is accompanied by these intense feelings.
And since you have no idea what to do with them, you answer the best way you can, through a clouded mind. "Well, you don't need to worry, Bunny. I'm not going anywhere."
Jungkook's eyes crinkle at the corners as he smiles. Finishing with the plating, he nods to the Hwajeon. "About done?”
"What? Oh—yeah. Just about."
He passes you a plate and turns off both burners. "Then let's eat. Put them on the plate and follow me. I found the perfect place for a Lunar New Year meal."
After the Hwajeon is plated and the dual bowls of Tteokguk are on a platter, Jungkook leads you towards the front area of the supermarket. It's farther down than you previously ventured. It's past the food and drink to the small home goods, clothing, and electronics section. He must've come across it when he was looking for the burners.
In the corner, next to the large windows at the front, there's a window display similar the one at the flower shop. It's a cubby of sorts, where the bay windows extended into the sidewalk. There used to be mannequins displayed with a variety of winter clothing. Jungkook's shoved them aside. In their place, he's arranged several blankets and pillows around a low table. He's even pushed one of the storage bins up behind the pillows to have something to lean back against.
"You did all this by yourself?" you ask.
Jungkook nods, sets the food onto the low table, and settles onto one of the cushions with a sigh. "You took forever getting the utensils, so I came over here and messed with some stuff." He pats the spot beside him. "The snow's lightening a bit. It looks so pretty from inside. Maybe we'll even see some fireworks in a little while."
You take your seat beside him, trying to ignore the fact that his thigh presses against yours and his arm brushes your shoulder when he offers you your bowl. For a moment, your eyes lock. Jungkook averts his attention, his dimple popping out as he purses his lips.
Taking it with a small "thank you" and slight bow of your head, you turn your gaze from the awkward boy down to the meal. Inhaling the aroma, you let a lazy smile spread across your face.
"Holy shit, this smells amazing."
"Just like Mom's," he breathes. Turning to the side, he holds up his glass bowl towards yours. "Cheers?"
"To a Happy New Year." You tap your bowl against his, giggling at the soft clink that it makes.
After digging in and continuing to praise yourselves on a job well done, you change the topic of conversation. "So, you have any New Year's resolutions?"
"Isn't that an American thing?"
"It never hurts to look forward," you say in a snide tone, rolling your eyes at Jungkook's grin. "Fess up. What are you looking forward to in the Year of the Rabbit?"
Jungkook settles back against the pillows, taking another sip from the broth. "You first."
"Well..." you trail off, watching the blizzard slow to a soft fluttering of snowflakes outside the neon-lit window. "Kinda already told you mine, to be honest. Graduate. Grow the shop. Expand the business. Things of that nature."
"What about in your personal life?"
"Well, now that you mention it, I wanna get back to Ilsan to visit Mom and Dad more. I should also probably track down Joon and spend more time with h—"
"—Not what I meant, [Y/n]," Jungkook interrupts.
You tilt your head when you glance at him out of the corner of your eye. "What did you mean then?"
The brunet shrugs and grabs a piece of Hwajeon. "You've been single ever since you dated that douche in high school. What was his name?"
"Ugh, Hae-song," you groan, not at all enjoying the resurgence of your exes name.
"Yeah! That one," Jungkook chuckles. "I get best friend rights to know if you're seeing anyone lately."
"Awfully brave of you to assume that Hae-song was my last boyfriend."
Jungkook's eyes widen. "Did I miss something—Wait, when you were in the States?"
You nod once and set your finished bowl aside, glancing over your shoulder at the drink aisle a few meters away. Hopping up, you scurry over and grab a couple of bottles of you and Jungkook's favorites. "This conversation's going to need some soju," you murmur under your breath. "I can feel it."
Settling back down at his side, you offer one of the bottles to Jungkook with a tired smile. Cracking yours open with ease, you take a long sip before settling back against the cushions. Jungkook opens his in silence and allows you to collect your thoughts.
"Yeah, I met a guy," you admit. "He was another exchange student from Daegu. Whatever the odds, he ended up in the same group as me. We studied together a lot, and then we started dating a few weeks in."
"Are you still together?"
"God no," you reply, shaking your head fervently. "I would've told you if I was by now. We broke up a little before I left. He wanted to stay in the States long-term, as in, like, get a work Visa and move there. I'm not about a long-distance relationship. So we both thought it best to go our separate ways."
Jungkook nods along to your story, doing his best to understand where you're coming from. "Do you miss him?"
"Not really. He was nice and all, but we weren't all that close. I knew what I wanted out of life; so did he. Neither of us was gonna change, so it was easier to let go."
"Oh..." he breathes, then takes another gulp of the alcoholic beverage.
"Sounds horrible when I say it like that." You laugh it off, then bump your shoulder against Jungkook's. His silence makes you a tiny bit smug, and his intense focus on the soju bottle invites a little giggle to escape. "Is someone jealous?"
Through flustered words, Jungkook manages to sputter, "Yeah, you wish. I...again, would've missed the hell out of you if you'd stayed. For a second, you scared me."
In a burst of bravery, aided by the alcohol in your system, you reach for Jungkook's free hand. Your fingers brush against his tattooed knuckles as you hold it between your own. Your touch is gentle. Even more so when you notice the slight scarlet hue that still ruminates on his fingertips.
You smile, softly running a forefinger across the ink on the back of his hand. "I hope you believe me when I say I'm not leaving."
Jungkook doesn't move an inch as your hands rest on his. He barely even breathes, afraid to move or speak or exhale. If it means running the risk of pushing you away by accident, he'd rather stay frozen for the rest of the night.
"Promise, jagiya?"
Emphasis is given to your words as you hook your smaller pinky around his. Despite the cold outside, his skin is warm, and the touch sends sparks through your body. It doesn't help that he's close enough to hear your breathing. Close enough to rest his head on yours if he wanted to. Close enough kiss if you wanted to.
You shove that thought away, squeezing your pinky to mask your true feelings. "I promise." Embarrassed, you let his hand drop to his thigh and cross your arms over your chest. The action readjusts you to put a little more space between you both, much to Jungkook's dismay. "Your turn, Gym Bunny. What are your resolutions?"
"You never answered my question, though."
Rolling your eyes, you retort, "Fine. No, I'm not seeing anyone, nor do I have anyone in mind. Happy? Now, your turn."
Though taken back by your sudden withdrawal from him, Jungkook tries to focus on the question instead of the way the ghost of your touch lingers on his tattooed knuckles. "Well, like you, I wanna grow the business. Jimin and I are planning to look at some locations in Gangnam later this spring. If all goes well until then, we're going to open a second location before the year's up."
"That's great, Kookie!"
Your best friend chuckles at your enthusiasm. "We're excited. Feels like a step in the right direction. Growth, y'know?"
"What about personal life?" you inquire. "Don't think you're getting out of that one either. You broke up with your girlfriend before the holidays. Interested in anyone else lately?"
"Actually...there is someone," Jungkook admits. He reaches for another bite of Hwajeon and offers you a second piece. "I'm not sure they see me the same way as I see them, though."
"How do you know?"
He shrugs again. "A feeling. I realized how I felt about them last fall, which is why I broke up with my ex. We weren't in love, and we both knew that."
"All this while I was gone?" you ask, feeling a sense of dread wash over you. Maybe he was lying before when he said he hadn't met anyone new in the time you were gone. From the way he's talking now, it sounds like he's interested in someone else.
"Yeah. It's been building for a while, I think, but it only hit me right before the holidays."
Popping the cap off the second bottle of soju, you take a long swig before adding, "Sounds like you got it bad, Bunny. Why haven't you said anything to them?"
"Scared of messing up?" he replies, answering it more like a question than a statement, as if he's unsure himself. "Scared of what they'd do. Scared of ruining our relationship now. Scared that it'll end up being one-sided." The brunet finishes his bottle and places it on the table. "I was lucky with my ex; both of us realized that we weren't right for the other. What if, this time, I let myself fall, only to have the rug ripped out from under me?"
If you're honest, hearing his concerns about the person he's falling for gives you a plethora of mixed feelings. Half of you desperately wants to believe he's talking about you. The other half is terrified that he's thinking of someone else. His words could lend themselves either way. You've only ever been best friends. And you realize how long it took you to finally realize your true feelings. You doubt that he's come to the same conclusion, at the same time.
No one is that lucky.
Even as your chest aches, the wish for him to be happy—no matter what—forces you to put your own emotions aside. "Do you trust this person?"
"Yes."
"Okay. And do they trust you?"
"I think so. I hope so."
You offer your companion a second bottle, which he gladly takes. "Do you think you could truly be happy if you kept your feelings to yourself? If you never told them?"
"Probably not," he sighs, forcing a smile. "I don't see this feeling going away anytime soon."
"Then, in my humble opinion, you gotta tell them. Even if it's scary, even if it ends up being awkward, even if you feel like it might be one-sided. You're not going to rest easy until it's out in the open." Your blatant hypocrisy is not lost on you, even as you speak. "If you really feel this way about this person, I don't think there's another option."
"And if they reject me?"
"'Better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all'?"

New Break Dance AU
Chapter One: Roman P.O.V.
As the beginnings of “Not Gonna Die” by Skillet filled the room, Anxiety began the dance. He was mixing break dancing with ballet again. Ballet for the slow parts while his partner, Logic, danced behind him, almost like he was the heavier instruments in living form.
Roman loved watching these two perform. They were the regional champs for the third year in a row. He desperately wanted to know who they really were, but with the heavy make up and the stage names, he hadn’t a clue. He just knew that Anxiety was a heavy influence on his form now. At first it was mere accident, but then his crush noticed and said,
”You know, you seem to be getting more confident in your moves and your footing.” He sighed dreamily. Virgil really was amazing. Sometimes he wondered if he were secretly Anxiety, but dismissed the thought as soon as he made the mistake of inviting him to the club.
”Oh, oh, no. I could- I could never-” He said. “That’s just- So many people, you know?”  “Oh. Oh, goodness gracious. I’m sorry, I didn’t even think-” Roman had tried to backpedal. Virgil shook his head. He looked a little nauseous.  “Don’t worry about it, Ro. Everyone forgets about it sometimes.” He said, putting on a brave face. That just made him feel worse. The bell rang before he could say anything else. “Ah, shit. I gotta go. I’m in Mr. Sanders after hours class.” He said, trying to hide the relief in his voice. Then he ran off, slinging his backpack over his shoulder.
“Uh, you okay there, Princey?” A snarky, semi familiar voice asked.
‘Shoot!’ He thought. ’I missed the show!’ He looked at the source of the voice. His blood ran cold. “Princey?” Anxiety asked, now looking worried. “Dude?” “I’m a huge fan.” He managed to get out. Anxiety, the Anxiety, blinked in surprise and took a step back. It was hard to tell with all the purple, but it looked like he was blushing. “Are.. you blushing?”
“W-” His multicolored eyes widened, and it was actually a really cute look for him. Then he scowled. “No. Of course not. I don’t blush. Besides, I’ve seen you, Princey. You and the Rat, and that really bubbly guy. You guys could rival Lo, SP, and I.” He snorted. “Now who’s blushing?”
“The best dancer here just told me that my team could rival his, and I’m not supposed to blush?”
He grinned at that. “Please. At least red looks good on you.”
“And now the hottest guy here tells me-” Roman couldn’t finish his sentence. He was too busy trying not to laugh at Anxiety’s sputtering.
“I- I’m not- S-Surely you’re talking to the wrong brother.” He scowled again when Roman started to laugh.
“Sorry, sorry. You just sound just like my friend. He’s someone who could actually rival you.” He said, that damned dreamy smile returning.
“Anx!” Another voice called. “We gotta go.”
“See ya, Princey.” Anxiety said, slinging his bag over his shoulder. He gave a two-finger salute and followed SP and Logic fell in line behind them. Roman frowned softly. Huh. Virgil did that very same thing when he had to go.
Just then, his twin almost toppled him over with the force of his hug, knocking away his thoughts.
“Ow, hey, Rat, careful!” He whined, sticking his tongue out.
“Ro. I’m in love.” It said dreamily. He raised his eyebrows.
“You?” He asked, grinning at his twin. It was hanging off of him now. His grin widened when it nodded.
“Yeah. That Logic guy?”
“It was pretty funny, actually.” Patton chimed in. “They were talking about dissecting frogs-”
“Shocking.”
“- And then I went to get a drink and when I came back they were making out. Re had him against the wall.” Pat finished, laughing at Roman’s look of disgust.
“Gross, Pat. I didn’t need that little detail.” “Oh, I’d hardly call that a little detail.” It said with a wink.
“Ew, Remus.” Roman shrugged it off now.
“Not me! His. Least it felt like it.”
“Remus.” Roman scolded, then he pouted at Patton. “Don’t laugh.”
“I’m just glad that I don’t have your problems.” Pat said. “AroAce, babey.”
The twins rolled their eyes and the trio headed for the door.
The next day, Roman groaned as he rolled out of bed. ‘Thank the gods we have two bathrooms.’ He thought as he started the shower. He trudged back to his room after brushing his teeth.
He tilted his head as he surveyed each outfit. He hummed and decided to go with a black skirt, his “Too Cute For The Closet” shirt with his bedazzled jean jacket.
“Yo, Re! Are we eating breakfast at school or are you making us food?”  He called down.
“Hope you like a mix of scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, and various veggies.” It yelled back.
He grinned and shook his head. Remus had weird tastes sometimes, but it usually led to it being the best cook he could ask for. He jogged down.
“Want help picking out an outfit?” He offered.
“I’m good, thanks. Think I’ll just wear trash-chic today.”
“Changing it up, I see.” Roman replied dryly. He pulled out the Sunny D and poured them each a glass. It shrugged.
“What can I say? I gotta let you shine sometimes.” Remus grinned over its shoulder. Then it dished up Roman’s half. After, he added peanut butter and some Sunny D to the rest and cooked it a little more.
“Rat.” Roman teased. Then he took a bite of his. “Shit, Rem. You really should go for a culinary school. Or apply at a restaurant.”
“Nah. School is boring-”
“You love home ec.”
“Shut it, and what restaurant would want a wild card like me?” It said, gesturing to its own food. It dished up and added some hot sauce as an afterthought. Then grabbed its own juice and sat with its brother. “Wanna taste?” Roman looked uncertain, but sighed. He knew it was trying to change the subject.
“I’ll regret it.” He said, then he opened his mouth for a taste. “Hm. If it didn’t have the peanut butter, it’d be hella good.”
“What? Psh, the PB is what makes it.” It grinned. “Anyways, Pat is bringing his friend Logan over tonight for dinner and tutoring.”
“Okay, thanks for the heads up, Sibs. That oughta help with your English, right?” It shook its head. “Oh?”
“I don’t like how my math is looking. I’d like to keep my mostly straight B’s.” It said, stabbing at its food with its fork.
Roman smiled at him. “Proud of you, Sibs.”
Remus looked at him. “Really?”
“Totally. And Virge said his offer still stands too.” He said pointing at it with his fork. “No hard feelings about last time.” “Seriously?” It asked, relief soaking its tone. “That’s fantastic. Ask him what his favorite food is and I’ll make it whenever he comes over. I’ll even wrangle Pat in to help me bake him his favorite dessert.” Roman smiled softly.
“You got it.”
“His tips about focusing really did help last year. Even if..” It trailed off, frowning.
“Hey, he said no hard feelings. It’s his brother we should worry about.” He joked.
“Janny or Logan?” Remus grinned. “Cause Janus is my friend.”
Roman stuck his tongue out at him.
“Let’s go. We gotta get to class.”

Chapter 5
I did everything I could to keep Onyx because Ichigo has never been this demanding before, has he really forgotten that he is now my cousin? So when night arrived, I could not get to sleep because of how he was acting towards me, Alex, Onyx, Mugetsu, Esperanza, and Shiro, when it comes to Orihime, his son, Rukia, and Renji he acts like nothing is wrong. I wonder it has to do with the fact that HIS memories are obscured now, if that's the case, I need to do something about this, I softly called out, "Hey Onyx." "Couldn't sleep?" he asked. I sighed meaning that there was something on my mind, Onyx opened up the closet door like Rukia used to do, "What's on your mind?" "Ichigo has been acting very weird," I said, "Are his memories obscured this time?" "I wish I knew but we need to get everyone back before things get worse," said Onyx, "Thankfully I know on how to get them back. Let's sneak out and find a Karaoke place so we can loose the tension." That is what we exactly did, Onyx was always the one to keep his guard up even when Ichigo was being protective, doesn't matter, Onyx is my brother and guardian. We walked into a place that has a stage but no one was singing, Onyx asked the manager of the place, "Can we take the stage for tonight?" She was the sweetest lady, told us, "Of course you can, darlings." We walked up the stage and we saw Alex again, this time he was with Volaris, he knew exactly on what to play when he saw us, Ignite played first to warm us up, we got no one's attention for some time, which means we got to up our game. The lady who let us was watching us, she was loving us and how in sync we were being, she asked us, "Are you two a couple?" "No, we are brother and sister," said Onyx, "Don't ask, just accept it." She nods, I think she knows on what we are because Carry On from Avenged Sevenfold started to play, got Levy back, because there was someone with a cup of water who watched their drink vanish to thin air, then we heard, "Hey guys!" Onyx shouted, "Aunt Levy!" She waved where the lady was, then Centuries played then started to get some attention with Must Be Nice from Nickelback it was only Onyx this time. Then I noticed that did not got their attention, I felt someone behind me, I turned, Jagaur's back, he was head bobbing to the Nickelback song, "Hey, Jagaur." He looks at me finally, then smiles, "I'm waiting for a hug." I hugged him same with Levy, then I did Immortals from Fall Out Boy, and In The Air Tonight from Phil Collins, I guess that there was a colonel who was supposed at his base because we heard someone who never raised his voice and that colonel was close to harming the lady that let us on stage, then we saw a fist and a few teeth falling into view. Hurricane is back, never lost his chivalry, then we heard him say, "Get out of here, scumbag." The guy ran out, I waved, "Hi, Hurricane!" "Hey, Lady Akari," he said, immediate change of attitude, "Don't mind me I'm just doing my thing." "As we can see, by the way, nice to have you back," said Onyx, "Next song." Not Gonna Die, Out of Hell, and Rise from Skillet played then A Light That Never Comes from Linkin Park played, got Raven and Layla back. Then Thunder played, I felt a shocking feeling and out came Evangeline beginning to dance with her partner Hurricane. A lot of songs later, I got most of them back, my sassiness came back because Jagaur was the source of it all. I was back in bed same with Onyx, everyone else hoped onto Hurricane's back and went straight to the cottage to power up the portal so that the others would come out. I can not wait to see mom and dad after so long of being away from them, morning rises and it was time to handle Hollows, I was energized again, I am now use to my falchion because I did a couple Heart blasts to a few, Ichigo caught up to me, Onyx, and Mugetsu, tells only me, "Let Kazui have his first kill." I rolled my eyes, "He's not old enough, Ichigo Kurosaki." Then I casted a Shadow Ball, threw it at a Hollow who was going after his son, "He has yet to know on what to do." "I'm sorry, what is going on," he asked, "First thing you were scared to even fight with your falchion and now you are using it with no problem, what happened to you?" "Wouldn't you like to know," I sassed, "I'm not telling. Let's go Mugetsu and Onyx." "No, you are not going anywhere until you tell me on what is going on with you," said Ichigo. Then the thought of hate surge through my body and mind, it was unbearable this time, Mugetsu could see this, tapped on the side of my temple, it calmed the being inside, saying, "Keep calm until we get into the cottage." I nodded to what he said, Mugetsu said to Ichigo, "Dude, you are effecting her every action to do anything. She is battling something greater than her and it might kill her." Raven showed up and casted a mental lock key, unlocked his memories again, Ichigo ended up saying, "I didn't know that what I was doing was causing her to be like this." "It's alright you didn't know, Ichigo," said Onyx, "Now, you remember on who she is and her power?" "Yeah," he said, "She's Akari Itsuki, who I took under my care without knowing that she already has a brother but I know that she knows I was trying to prepare her for a world that does not care about her feelings." "Which it won't matter because her inner being won't let anyone say anything evil towards her," said Mugetsu, "Let's just say that you will lose her again and she will never come back from what she was battling." After we separated from Ichigo, I went to Shinji for help, I called, "Hello? Anybody here?" "Ah, Miss Itsuki," said Shinji, "Been a while." "I need your help please," I cried. Hiyori, who didn't like me in the beginning but she still did, walks up into view, asked, "What is it that you need from us?" "I'm battling something and I don't know on what to do," I said, "I came here so I can learn what it is and how to deal with it the best I can." "Well then you came to the right place," said Shinji, "Let's what is within you shall we?" "Go easy on me please," I said. Then everyone heard, including me, "I know on who it is." We looked at who it was, I called out, "Mugetsu, what are you doing here?" "To tell you on what is going on within you," said Mugetsu, "You might've thought that the Elemental Realm was your inner mind, but it is not because I went through it, Akari, something is preventing you to go into your mind." "How do I get there?" I asked.
Mugetsu's POV: I told her that I was going to see on what I will by going into her mind, I went in to her mind, the view before me was unbelievable, there were evil thoughts flowing through harming Nikushimi's power level and hurting her physically, I got to work on destroying each and every one of those evil, mean, and nasty thoughts. I used all my power skills to get the ones that were in my reach, I called out, "Nikushimi! I'm going to come back with back up because this is unacceptable for something like this to happen." "Please, help me, Mugetsu," she said, weakly. Esperanza and Onyx may be the guardians of Akari alone, but I protect Nikushimi, it was my sworn duty to protect that fragile thing until she has her power and strength back. Time to get Denver and Dakota, well it's going to be real easy for me to find Denver because he remembers on who he was, Dakota has no idea on who he is, so I decided to go to the market because that is where they working at, both of them are working at the market, one was a cashier and the other was stocking the shelves. I went to Dakota, who was stocking the shelves, "Hey, I need your help." "Can it wait, Mugetsu?" he asked, "Unless it's very important." "It's Akari," I said. That got his attention, "One moment please, could you finish for me?" "Sure," I said, starting finishing on what he was stocking. Yes I work here too, I'm just the Co-manager of the place, I was told that I didn't have to be here unless it was an emergency, I went to Denver and told him what is happening with Lady Akari. I got the 2, no one said anything back to what I was doing because I like things my way, then Dakota had the nerve to ask, "Is your hair that long yet?" "Shut up, Dakota," I said, "I have yet to say that I have hair extensions." "There is a thing called shampoo," said Denver. I just looked at the 2, I can not believe these 2 are actually seeing through this long ass hair, am I really that easy to get caught? I asked, "Can you act like it's this natural? I don't want to be made fun of as I already am by a Black Panther." "Fine, whatever floats your boat, milady," Dakota joked. I shouted, "Do I really look like a woman?" "No you don't," said a lady behind us. We looked, it was a girl with lavender hair that was wearing an indigo and golden yellow dress, she was also wearing a necklace that has a clock, I asked, "How's it going, Usami?" "Where you are going with these 2?" she asked, "Bring them back because I might need you all to be here since this place is going to be busy in a few hours." "Usami, this is more important," I said to her, "I'll be right back with them, but for right now, they are on their breaks." She nods knowing that I am stubborn, man, I got it from my host, Ichigo Kurosaki, damn you, strawberry, shrug it off, then we see him, Dakota groaned, "Great, here comes the grouch of all grouches." "What happened while he was there?" I asked. Dakota answered, "I kept seeing him saying to Akari to watch on what she eats even though she tells me and Denver that she is naturally that thin, not to mention she has extreme high metabolism." "She does fight a lot and it burns a lot of calories," I said. We went back to where Akari was, I led the 2 into her mind, I asked, "Do you guys know on what power you guys have?" "I have Energy," said Denver. Dakota tells me that he has Void, "Alright guys, see those thoughts, destroy them because they are causing damage to that little fragile girl over there," I said pointing at Nikushimi. They got the memo, Denver looks like Ukitake right? Here is what Dakota looks like, he's the Dangai version, his attire is exactly what you think it is, the right sleeve is always torn and he has to have something wrapped around his entire arm and his hand would always be covered with a black glove with a very long black thick string that he always does to his own clothing. Let's just say that is his Soul form, we are currently breaking his habit within his body because that has got to stop, he almost lost his job to what he almost did to his uniform, I did come up with a compromise that he can wear the black glove with no string attached to it, he's slowly getting there. We got the thought taken care of and we exited the mind of hers, Dakota goes, "Well, that was nerve wrecking, those thoughts were not what I had in mind." "Maybe we need to set her an application to the market so the 3 of us and hopefully Usami can keep an eye out for her," I said to them, "I know for a fact that it's not going to stop until we find out on who is the source of all this nonsense."

Stray Dogs Lie
A Yandere!Belshn/Reader drabble written on request a long time ago.  I’ve cleaned it up a bit for your enjoyment!
Note: This is NOT canon in any way, shape, or form.  This is from a set of drabbles where our favorite cowboy daddy is just a liiiiittle less stable than he is in canon!
You wince as you try to pry the metal trap from your leg.
He insisted that they were meant for the coyotes that frequented his property, but you never did believe him. Not fully.  You especially didn’t believe him now. A muffled yipe escapes your throat when your blood-wet fingers slip from the trap, causing it to snap back into the muscle of your shin.
The sound of boots crunching on gravel alerts you to his approach, causing you to start to panic ever so slightly.  You grasp at the chained trap binding you to the ground, cursing the fact that you’re not strong enough to rip it from its inset concrete post. His chipper whistled tune echoing through the cold desert night somehow chills you more than the actual drop in temperature. He was getting closer.  And to think… that same tune sounded like a beacon of hope just a few perigees prior.
You had gotten lost- horribly lost. After your car broke down on a desolate back road and you found your palmhusk without signal, walking really was your only option.  But… after hours, you realized that your surroundings had changed completely, with the road no longer in sight.  You were sure you were going die with the impossibly hot summer sun beating down on you.  And… Soon enough, dehydration and tiredness took their hold in your poor body, leaving you a heap in the middle of nowhere.  You accepted this death- nobody would even notice you were gone.  Just another one of the nightdropper zombies that absently roamed Alternia.
But, that’s when you met him. You don’t know how long you’d been face-down in the dirt and sage brush.  It could have been a few minutes, or it could have been hours, but the faint sound of a cheery tune carried through the air finally pulled you back to your senses.  Ah, right.  There was music that played in the afterlife, right?  This was that- you’d died out alone in the desert and buzzards would be feasting on your corpse by morning.  Or… at least, that’s what you first assumed.
“You alive darlin'?” A deep voice called from above you, making you struggle to turn your head to see its source. The figure knelt beside you, gently brushing some hair from your face, “It’s okay, don’t move too much,” his voice jovial, yet calm.  Maybe you were just delirious… but he sounded safe, and comforting- your savior from the wilderness!
You couldn’t have been any more wrong.
Soon enough, you felt something beneath you; a pair of strong arms lifting you into the air and adding a strange twang to your pusher and a disgustingly romantic element to the terrible scenario.  “Yer safe now,” His voice sounded distant, your eyes closing without you wanting them to, “I ain’t gonna let nothin’ hurt ya...”  The next thing you remembered was the inside of a cozy room and the sounds of cooking coming from further into the house.
You made you way to the center of the hive, finding Belshn Lloane humming away in the little country kitchen as he piled heaps of hashbrowns from his skillet and on to a plate.  He greeted you and wiped his hands on the apron covering his chest, urging you to sit and eat.  The morning was spent peacefully- the bronzeblood stuffing you full of carbs and liquids and encouraging you to tell him a little more about yourself.  Everything about him felt a little fake- just a bit too good to be true. Every warning alarm was flashing in your head… but he was just so nice. Surely it wouldn’t hurt to stay just for a little while?
You were a fool.  You were smitten at first sight.  You told him everything about yourself.
You told him about having just gotten your degree and about moving to a brand new town for a new life. You told him of your estranged relationship with your lusus and how you didn’t think you’d even told them when you were leaving.  You told him of how reclusive you had been in during your education and how you appreciated what he did, but honestly didn’t think anyone would have missed you if you’d never made it out of that desert. Stupid.
His grin only ever wavered when you yourself seemed to falter- when you broke down at his kitchen counter.  When you lamented to him about feeling worthless.  You didn’t know what it was about this troll that made you so at ease- was it that sultry southern drawl?  Or maybe it was his large and unassuming brown eyes?  He looked kind, if not having been through a life of hard work.  The bronzeblood stood from his seat, clapping you gently on the back.
“I can’t right put someone so down on yer luck out in th’ cold, now can I?” He spoke with a conviction that seemed so charming at the time- like he just wanted to take care of you and wouldn’t take no for an answer, “I got an extra room here! Why don’t y’all stay here while yer car’s fixed? ‘M Sure it’d be a lot better’n payin’ fer a hotel all th’way in th’city,”
Stupid.  Did you even ask if he’d called someone to fix your car?  Did you even bat an eyelash when he pet your hair like some sort of doll?  Did you even fucking question it when he gave you new clothes to wear like some southern belle housewife, even when they weren’t your style at all?  No.  Because when you were met with kindness, you always ate it up.  First came excuses- the sun being too hot or your car not being done, or it being too late in the day for you to reasonably go out!  Just stay with him another day.  Stay in his bed another night- he’d be good to you.  But… then came the orders to stay in and his cold glances when you tried to go, the way he clung to you so possessively and how rough he became with you at night on days you mentioned leaving.  After a while, you just stopped asking about it.  Belshn knew best.  He would let you know when you were ready to go…
But now that he had found you again, out bleeding into the dirt, having escaped for the second time over the past five perigees of being cooped up in his cozy little farm hive… You knew he would never let you go.
“Now, why’d y’all go an’ do a plum fool thing like that, sugar?” He asked in his same happy little tone, but you no longer heard kindness in that tender southern drawl, “It’s okay, don’t move too much.  We’ll get y’all patched up in no time,”

To give some backstory, my family's farm is located in the deep south in the midst of rural farm land and pine forest. My grandfather bought the land nearly 50 years ago super cheap and honestly we have had strange things happen. I grew up there and am just use to most of it, not that anything truly note worthy has happened but that's another day. This actually happened the other day, I'm visiting and after all the icey weather has cleared I really want to go camping. About an hours ride from the farm is an abandoned (for at least 30 years) cabin I use when the weather is cold. I tack up Snow, my buckskin Appaloosa mare, and distribute some of the supplies between her and my SD, Yakone (Snow only gets ridden during my visits every few months, so an hour ride with supplies may not be over taxing, she's still gonna be tired). The ride is down a dirt road then through pine forest, and really isn't eventful. Snow has been here quite a few times and Yakone has only been here one other time (I also want to note that Yakone is a Husky mix, nothing about this is going to tire her out). Now I love the pine forests, this is my childhood, and on this day the forest is absolutely alive. We see rabbits, hawks, doves, even a couple of quail and deer tracks. When we finally arrive at the old cabin I'm pretty sure I was the last inhabitant as my old skillet is still hanging in the window, however instead of dismounting and prepping for camp, I decided we should all explore a bit more. Snow still feels great, very much unwinded, and it's still early in the afternoon with hours of daylight left, and with that I push us toward the creek at the bottom of the hill behind the cabin. Now let me talk about the creek for a minute. Unofficially its known as Panther's Creek and all my childhood I was told to stay away from the creek, mostly because of the mud. See, in this part of the south, we have swamps that sorta pop outta nowhere and deep mud that still kills a few kids every year. That being said, I'm no longer a kid. I'm a grown ass adult, married with a degree, a career and everything. We get to the creek and I let Snow and Yakone drink their fill before deciding to cross it. There is no incident crossing, which is kinda surprising because Snow is not a fan of water, but I don't think much on it. We travel further into the forest, and just before I decide to turn back to the cabin, I see it. It's a tiny cabin, older with a kind of shelter attached to the side, like a garage. The front door is shut, but the front window is open. I immediately fall in love with it. It's a little further away from society, it's smaller, and there is a shelter attached to it perfect for my horse to use as a makeshift stall. After dismounting I check for signs of people and wildlife. Being so close to a water source I expect to see some signs but nothing. Definitely no signs of people, and hardly any signs of animals, I don't even see any rodent droppings in the corners of the cabin (which the door was unlocked). With the area determined to safe I untacked Snow and got her comfortable in her makeshift stall, giving her the hay we had brought and water from the creek. Next I prepared to the inside with my bed roll and gear before going back out to start the fire and supper. Again, all was pretty uneventful. We ate and drank out supper around the fire and enjoyed the sounds of the forest, and away from people. However, just as the sun was setting, dark clouds had gathered overhead and rain had started so Yakone and I headed inside where it was dry (only a few leaks). Again I checked on Snow, this time through a convenient window that peered into her stall, saw she safe and cozy, and decided to curl up with my dog and let the rain lull us to sleep. This was the most perfect picture camping trip I could have experienced. However, an unknown time later, I was awoken. The rain had stopped outside, but my dog, Yakone, was quietly whining next me, her eyes fixed on the door. Now, again something about my SD is that she is very quite despite being a Husky mix. Yakone very rarely ever makes a sound unless absolutely necessary. My heart is pounding and my mind is racing at all the possible threats. Slowly and quietly I grab my flashlight and pistol (.45 ACP, never leave home without it) and slowly crawl to the window looking into Snow's stall. Just barely I can make out the figure of my mare in the darkness, her body is rigid and all of her attention is forward, toward the creek. Again I duck down and make my way slowly now toward the front window, hoping it's only a coyote or raccoon causing my animals to worry. Slowly peering over the window I only see the blackness of the woods, my heart is still pounding and I'm almost too afraid to open the door- but as I strain to hear anything that might divulge the reason to my animals' behavior, I hear it and my heart almost stops. Laughter. Giggling. At first it's real faint, I can barely hear it, but it slowly grows ever so closer. The more I listen, the more it sounds like a small group of children, no. Boys. I am the oldest of five kids with most of us being boys and I've had my share of overseeing troop meetings and hangouts, and I would bet my last dollar that what I heard was a group of young boys giggling. But I don't hear movement. As I hear the giggles get ever so closer, there is no sound of twigs snapping, pine needles rustling, or limbs being pushed aside. This side of the creek is heavily forested, and thankfully Snow is not a very large horse else we would probably not have been able to navigate through. However right now there was no sound coming. Only the giggling. As I peered through the window, I could feel my own eyes wide with terror, I could just make out pairs of fireflies drifting at the edge of the woods, right before entering my little campground. This is January. Fireflies don't come out this time of year. I watch the not fireflies and note another oddness to them, they are all paired up. I watch them for several more seconds before another terrifieing realization, I'm not seeing fireflies. I'm seeing pairs of eyes. Tiny, beady, pairs hovering and floating along the tree line, with the tiniest giggles fluttering into my hears. I hear both Yakone and Snow move around nervously, with Yakone still making the smallest whines. I look down to the pistol in my hand and back to the dozen or so pairs of giggling eyes staring back to the cabin. I feel frozen and trapped. What can I do? Shot at the invisible, laughing boys? Jump on my horse and ride back? And even if I did decide to go full horse whisperer and jump on my horse with no saddle and no bridle, which way would I go? Do I rush through them? Whatever they are, and risk an hour ride in pitch darkness, or do I try to escape in the other direction. Hell, I'm not sure what all is that way. Most likely swamp. So I'm trapped, in a cabin no knows is here, I think to myself. I can feel the panic sinking in and my hands begin to loose feeling. Yakone, despite her own fear, comes up to me and begins licking my face and placing her paws on my chest (the things she is supposed to do during my episodes). As my brave SD is taking care of me, I see the gentle flash of her St. Francis of Asisi medalion on her collar, the patron saint of animals. I'm not Catholic, hell I'm even very religious, but I do have a small collection of Catholic saint medalions: Mary, St Christpher, St. George, and another St. Francis of Asisi. I started carrying them on trail rides at first because I saw no harm in possible spiritual protection, but now I needed those trinkets desperately. Once again I quietly crawled across the cabin floor and quickly looked through my saddle bag until I found the rosary with collection of saints added around the wooden cross at the end. The metal medalions made slight jingle as I picked them up, and again I thought my heart would stop in fear. However, as soon as jingling began, the giggling stopped. My ears strained to hear the tiniest noise as a desperately clung to the rosary, the beads digging into my palms. Before I could I let myself relax a new sound replaced the giggles: whispers. Soft, almost quite enough to go unnoticed. I tried to make out what they- again, whatever they were- could possible be whispering about. I tried to remember any prayers, Catholic or not, meant for protection or anything. But I could not think of any. This being said, I may not familiar with Catholicism, and I may not be very religious, but I have studied the shit outta the paranormal. My first question really, was to determine if this was paranormal, or not. Even if it was a group of boys out there I couldn't go blindly shooting into the darkness. I had very little evidence of either, truly. But at an unknown hour, with who knows how long till sunrise, I couldn't stay huddled in this cabin, cowarding all night. Finally, I stood up. Rosary in one hand, pistol in the other, and my 65 lb dog right behind I prayed to whoever would hear me and walked across the cabin and opened the door. The whispering stopped, the dozen or so pairs of drifting not-fireflies continued to blink at me from the pines. I thought I was going to die from hear failure my heart was beating so hard and so fast, my fingers had lost all feeling and my vision was beginning to swim around the edges. But I held firm, as much as I could. My stomach had turned to ice and for moment I feared I'd be sick in front of the giggling firefly boys. But I held that image in my mind, a group of young mischievous boys, just like my brothers, trying to scare me. With that new image I gave the woods my best "Big sister says eat shit and die" look that I could muster. I stood out there, in the cold January woods, glaring and praying. Finally, after what felt like hours, the not-fireflies slowly began to dissappear one pair at a time. But even after the last ones were gone I waited, scanning the woods for any sign of the tiny, yellow dots. Yakone pawed at my leg, again another sign for her take care of me, and I looked down at her. She gave a wide, doggy grin and wagged her tail. I looked in on Snow to find she was now munching on the very last of her hay. In far distance I could an owl, hooting in the night and crickets chirping. Yakone and I returned inside, I was suddenly exhausted. My eyelids almost too heavy to keep open. I set my pistol beside me and lay down on my bedroll, Yakone laying her head on my chest. I tried to listen for any signs of the giggling returning, but only the forest could be heard, and soon sleep overtook me. Honestly, I was surprised at how easily I fall asleep, but at least the rest of it went by smoothly. As soon as I was awake at daybreak that morning I decided to forgo breakfast, apologized to Snow and Yakone and promised them extra portions upon our safe return. Neither seemed to protest and we quickly booked it back to the farm. Honestly, as of right now, with this having just happened I don't know what to think, or how to feel. Was it all a dream? Hallucination? My imagination or was someone, or something really out there? I'm almost to afraid to search for any answers right now. I'm just my animals are safe.

Creating a “Real Burger” with Beyond Meat
So, about two months ago I realized I could not reconcile my love of wildlife with a diet consisting, large part, of farmed animals. As such, I made a switch to “mostly vegetarian”. I still eat meat, fish, and game. But only when I can find sources that 1) lived in the wild, 2) were wild caught, and 3) are sustainable. (After all, deer populations will grow to the point where they will die of starvation. Sustainable hunting is a good thing.)
This weekend, I found “burgers” from Beyond Meat at my local market. I had read that these mimic a meat-lover’s experience. So, I thought I would give them a try. Here goes...
Looking at the package, the look like beef (or bison) burgers:

They even have the “high-fat, gonna hit my waistline” nutritional value:

The ingredients are big of chemistry set as well. However, when I unwrapped them, they looked like meat. As such, I gave them the usual treatment: seasoning with Kosher salt and some pepper, and letting them come up to 60F:

While doing this, I prepped the accompaniments. I decided that if I was going to test test these against grass-feed beef, I would do a classic burger: good bun + mustard and ketchup + Vermont Cheddar + sauteed Vidalia onions + pickles. I prepped this while the “burgers” were coming up to temperature.
I then cooked in a cast iron skillet (for the same comparison). I also used some peanut oil, as a I would for a “real burger.” I did not need to use much, as these burgers release a lot of old while cooking (just like beef). Most of it has a smell of coconut (I did drain some off so I could get a good sear).
Like beef burgers, I tried to sear these. However, I did so at 425F (as I did not want to burn the vegetables). My new house has a touchy smoke detector. As such, I could not quite get the sear on both. One was ideal, one less so.
Here is how the “burgers” looked when all prepped:

They had a nice pink in the middle: the temp was 120F ( I never go to that 165F recommended by the FDA as I like my food to have some flavor).
The flavor was quite good. The burgers had that satisfying “fatty drippiness” you would get with beef. These will definitely make a good Memorial Day, 4th of July, or Labor Day substitute. Nice chemistry work by the folks at Beyond Meat.
