King George VI looking mighty fine in his Southwold shorts ;)

The 7th generation clothing boutique Denny of Southwold posted on Instagram:

"...we think back on the day in 1937 that we were lucky enough to receive a visit from (King Charles') grandfather, King George VI.

Our team of 26 tailors and 3 cutters ensured that they had each applied a stitch to the pair of shorts that we were asked to make for him. The picture shows him wearing the exact pair of shorts at a boys summer camp on the common."

Bertie always wanted to dressed the same as the boys at his Duke of York Camp (later King's Camp) and participate in their same activities.

I think my favourite photos of Bertie come from when he attended his summer camps from 1921-1939. For all his shyness, in the right company he was actually a high-spirited and playful man, and I like to believe these annual events brought out some of that joy!

We smelt the coffee as we ride last and it did by disappoint. Oat milk and fresh decaf available. Vegan and gluten free food options available to ore-order and some scrummy looking evening take out meals and the owner has a great sense of humour. Disabled access is OK (probably not great for wheelchairs - but fine with my stick) and no toilet. Southwold visit

Southwold is a beautiful seaside gem. It’s like someone picked up part of Cornwall and parked it on our door step; well it’s approximately a hours drive.
