It's the anniversary of Lambchop's spay. I have been dreading this coming up for some reason, like even more than her birthday... I just... the spay marked such a milestone in our relationship because it was evidence that I finally admitted that her hormones were bad for her and finally finally gave up on the idea that she would ever get her CH or be bred. I finally took that pressure off of both of us and I finally started taking the first steps in not trying to force her to be a different dog than she was, & the first steps in prioritizing making it easier for her to exist in the world

I have such warm memories of Lambchop's Spaycation. we really bonded and just got to spend a lot of time together without any pressure to accomplish anything but letting her heal ... just the two of us alone together... learning to navigate how the rest of our lives would go.

I miss her. I'm so angry that we didn't have years and years to explore where our bond would take us, and that I didn't have years and years to apologize to her for putting all that pressure on her to be someone other than who she was. I miss her I miss her I miss her. it's so unfair.

Posted @withrepost • @eoanimalalliance Sheba is back at the @eastorange_animal_shelter following a wonderful 3 day spaycation. We learned so much about Sheba during the time she stayed at our board member, Marcela's, home: -Sheba LOVES humans. She greets them with a whole body wiggle and solicits affection whenever possible. She does jump up and is a muscular gal so she will need help learning to keep "four on the floor." -Sheba is more than crate trained - she LOVES her crate! She sleeps like a baby in there and is totally fine snoozing the day away while the humans are out. -Sheba is housetrained (this makes sense seeing as we know she lived in a home in her past life) and totally gets the whole "potty outside" thing. -Sheba has this adorable behavior where, when you hand her something fun, she does a few "happy spins" before settling down to enjoy it. Plush stuffies, bully sticks, rope toys - she loves them all! She has a soft mouth when taking things, too. -Sheba has shown 0 resource guarding towards humans - you want what she has? She's happy to share! -Sheba is amazing on the leash. Her pace is leisurely and she hardly ever pulls, unless she sees a squirrel, cat, or other dog. Even then, she is easily distracted/redirected with a treat or praise. -Sheba has been great with meeting male, playful dogs - she is playful and friendly and silly. She has also had some good meetings with two young, puppyish female dogs. When dogs ignore her or don't want to engage, Sheba gets frustrated and whimpers/pulls towards them/gets worked up. We think she could live in a home with another dog, but it would take the right match. As of now, a playful male seems like the best bet. -Sheba fixates on cats. A home without cats (or one that keeps the cats separate) would be best. -Sheba matches the energy of the home and people around her. Want to relax and snuggle? She'll relax and snuggling. Looking to party? Sheba's in. -Sheba loves to learn and is super treat motivated. She will thrive in training. Today, Sheba was more relaxed and calm returning to her kennel from her spaycation than we have seen her in many weeks. Ma'am Chop Spaycation Day One

The AC is out but we are making do with fans and ice for now. Miss Chop has examined everything at the airbnb and cussed out her reflection in the mirror and rearranged all the pillows to her liking. I have gotten many special treats and chews for her recovery and we are mostly hanging out by ourselves on the couch or taking gentle walks around to look at ducks.
