It was a cottage of questioning witches, research witches. Eye of what newt? What species of ravined salt-sea shark? It's all very well a potion calling for Love-in-idleness, but which of the thirty-seven common plants called by that name in various parts of the continent was actually meant?
The reason that Granny Weatherwax was a better witch than Magrat was that she knew that in witchcraft it didn't matter a damn which one it was, or even if it was a piece of grass.
The reason Magrat was a better doctor than Granny was that she thought it did.

As an eclectic baby witch, I have a lot of spell ingredients, but not enough. Can anyone help me figure out what else I might need starting out? Here’s what I have so far…

new protection blend for low spoon witches (or anyone really)
Okay so you know how we can use eggshells for protection? And that you normally store them some variation of broken up?
Well I tried to put some of mine from breakfast in the coffee grinder....only to realize there was some coffee bean grounds in it. Now we also know that coffee can be used for grounding, and to make whatever you put it in (potions) more potent.
So naturally my chronically low spoon ass had a lightbulb moment and realized that this could work very well together.
So my point is save your spoons. As long as everything is shelf stable who the hell cares. Bonus points if it makes something stronger. Happy witching!

spell ingredients i don’t hear people talk about that i use in my practice. baby witches save this info but tread lightly, it’s not all safe all the time
cat whiskers and claw shavings. if you have a cat you know. keep the whiskers. keep the claws. they’re useful
wax drippings from candle workings/sealing. these are good for long lasting spells in my experience
dead bugs. the ones you find on your windowsill.
cicada skins. the seventeen year ones are my personal favorite for
perfume. scent is the strongest memory trigger. it is also good for whatever effect you associate the scent notes with.
this is gross but fingernails can add a personal element to the process. it’s dedicating a piece of you to the working. because careful what you do with them though
raw emotion. seriously try screaming. rage. despair. visceral joy. use emotion as an ingredient.
your own art, if you make art.

✨🔮There's So Many Spell Materials Right in Your Kitchen 💐🍓
Tumblr media
🍓You don’t need to immediately jump right up to your local botanica, spiritual shop, or even digital marketplace in order to find ingredients for your spells. A lot of the time, if you’re not able to go outside to forage, you can open up your own pantry and find PLENTY of items for whatever kind of spell work you’re doing. Protection, love, money, cursing….you can find ingredients for anything you want to do in your spice cabinets, in your fridge, in your pantry!
🌷Things like cinnamon and coffee can be used to add speed or quickness in your work.
🌷Cinnamon is also great for protective work because of it's firey hot nature as well. You can use the whole bark or the powder in different ways. Do what works for you and what your spirits or traditions or ancestors suggest.
🌷Cinnamon is ALSO good for money work too! I fucking love cinnamon. It goes SO good with other things like allspice and nutmeg too for money.
🌷 Coffee in general is an ingredient I like to use in my m
🌷 Lemongrass used in tea can be very helpful for calming anxiety. Lemongrass can also be used for cleansings and breaking blocks.
🌷Cornstarch can be used as a base for all of your spiritual powders if you wish!
🌷Cloves are good for domination.
🌷Black pepper is protective, and is very useful in reversals/return to sender work.
🌷Flor de Jamaica/Hibiscus flower is really good for love/beauty work, especially passionate ones. It has a lot of vitamin c as well!
🌷Mint is so good for money work! I love sweet mint the most for this. It’s also good to drink as a tea for when you’re having stomach problems like tummy aches and gas. It’s very easy to grow fresh as well, and can be found for pretty cheap at grocery stores (pssst….if you have SNAP/EBT, you can find mint plants/hierba dulce in supermarkets and they’re SNAP eligible!)
🌷 Apples have also been associated with things like beauty and love, depending on who you’re talking to. The seeds would be very useful in love but alternatively dominating work, depending on what you’re going for. Just be careful!
🌷Onion & garlic skins can always be used for cleansing and protection (garlic for this) purposes in your space and home too
🌷Eggs can be used for offerings (but as always, double check that whoever will accept them!). they can also be used for cleansings as well, and are also used for protection.
🌷Dont forget the egg shells are useful for protection too! And you can use the eggshells as well to create calcium water for your plants, or crushed up so slugs cannot access your plants.
🌷White rum is so good for cleaning as well, so is white vinegar, but for the vinegar I personally think it's especially important to do something to bring sweetness and good things back into your space
🌷 You can literally use any of your kitchen oils to make your own conjure oils -- it doesn't matter if it's vegetable or jojoba or canola or soy or olive (although I PERSONALLY prefer to use olive as base for my money oils & work, as well as my protective work)
🌷Oregano is also good for money, for protection, for situations with court and the law
🌷Orange peels are great for happiness and money! They're also cleansing, so they're great for floor washes. You can boil them if you want to for washes and for a nice scent to the home. You can dry them to use in happiness or money powders or mixes (you can keep the peels whole or turn the dried peels into powder with a mortar and pestle, food processor, or by hand)
🌷 Lemon and limes can be used as strong spiritual cleansers too. I like to boil them and use the water for washes. They can also be used for other workings, especially when you need people to leave you alone and get away from you. You can prep them the same way you would do the orange peels!
🌷 Oats are good for your skin, especially if you have irritation, but are also really good offerings and has been associated with wealth as well.
Make sure at the end of the day you’re talking to your spirits, your ancestors, your intuition, and listen to what they tell you! They’ll always give you the best results, it’s never good to just do whatever the books tell you.

Here’s why I’ve tried to stop saying “you can’t” do this or that in witchcraft (unless it pertains to closed practices which should always be respected):
Everyone’s practice is different. I only post about my experiences and my craft, and I never claim to be an educator. I, personally, do not believe that things like salt and eggshells should just be added to hexes. For me, salt is a complete neutralizer of negative energy, so I just personally wouldn’t use it when I want to use negative energy.
I also don’t believe that any herb can be used in any kind of spell. I think each herb has designated uses in magick.
I also do shit like add glitter, duct tape, and Elmer’s glue to my spells.
But I, genuinely, do not give a FLYING FUCK if this stuff works for you. I won’t shame your practice for it. It’s, frankly, none of my business. The truth is, nobody knows how magick “really” works. We can do our best to hypothesize, but magick is not exactly something we have the ability to measure. Heck, for all I know, magick works different for everyone. Frankly, it’s too much of an inconvenience for me to care if someone decides to use black salt as a hex base. I’ll mind my own, you mind your own.
But if you come at me with some stupid 3-fold bullshit I will go feral lol

Scylla’s Unhinged/creative curse ingredients:
-mint: fast growing, pretty invasive (invade targets life with lots of fast occurring problems that keep spreading)
Glue/honey- sticky situation, no progress, feeling stuck in life.
Salt- make other salty towards the target
Rosemary-Possibly burning rosemary to symbolise the intent of making the targets partner stop being faithful, or to represent the targets memory- make them more forgetful
Cucumber/eggplant, cut it open down the middle and using hot glue to creat a blockage representing some sort of dysfunction with c*mming.
Candle colours:
Yellow- (make their life pissy)
Green- (sickness)
Blue- (sadness, waves of problems)
(Note none of this has any basis in research or experience and is purely just random thoughts of what could work)

Alternative Uses to Tarot Cards (No Divination)
Everyone who use tarot will find, eventually, that maybe one of their decks are stored somewhere getting dust because they don’t use it anymore. Maybe they don’t vibe anymore with that set, maybe they bought it because was pretty but the deck doesn’t give them great results as a divination tool, maybe they get more effective ones, maybe they don’t do tarot anymore, maybe the deck was great as beginner and now as advanced they lack of depth, etc.
The reason doesn’t matter, the point is that you have a deck that you don’t use to divination anymore. What you can do with that? (I exclude all the “advice for the day”, “a card to choose something instead a coin” and any that’s “divination related”).
Spell Ingredient: I don’t mean to burn one card for a spell (I mean, if you are rich and don’t mind burn these precious things, go ahead… like… is yours after all), but to add some energy. I will explain it… When you do a specific spell, let’s say Healing, you probably tend to add Earth symbolisms, healing sigils, mint, green colors and all what’s related to heal. So, for example, maybe you will want keep The Strength Card nearby! Is a card that symbolize not only physical or mental active strength against someone, but also can be seen as the strength of the body to overcome an illness.
Each card has a meaning and all of them can have useful ways to boost some qualities on a spell. The Death and The Tower to bring strong changes. The Emperor to bring courage. The Justice to justice spells. And so on. The Major Arcana are the best to this case, but you can use the minor arcana too. And can mix cards to focus the meaning. The Empress and The Strength to give a strong, assertive but compassionate energy. The Justice and The Sun to bring the truth up. The Lovers and The Chariot to improve the relationship. And so oooonnn!
Correspondence: This is something I still need to try, but the idea is in my head. Give a “body part correspondence” to the card so you can use it to identify an illness (pls mundane first, go to the doctor if something is not right, PLEASE I BEG YOU DON’T BE SILLY) or to focus a healing spell. For example, The Death card is a skeleton? There you have, bones! The Strength? MUSCLES! The Lover? The heart! And so on. You can give the correspondence you want, especially if your deck has a symbol that remember you that body part.
Decoration: Maybe your path has changed and you don’t use tarot or neither do spells, what if you use them to decorate? Put them in a frame to hang in a wall, or to separate some pages of your Book of Shadows.
Gift Them: You know, if you want…
Meditation/Visualization: Is kinda the most common alternative. You take a card (random or a specific one) and you focus in that card as you meditate or try to visualize to manifest, to relate the meditation to the card’s meaning or improve the focus if the manifestation.
To Writing: If you like to make fics or write stories, maybe you will want to pull a card each time you are a little blocked to try to make the story turn as the card meaning. Or maybe write an entire story based in what the cards say.

interesting shit that happened today
* by our war water jar we found two dead spiders and a dead hornet, which we added to the jar
* figured out after much research that our oracle cards are probably possessed? either that or it’s two spirit guides but one is a kid so. aa
* said oracle deck is apparently so steeped in That’s Mine that my friends were afraid to touch it for a solid forty-ish minutes after i gave them my blessing to touch it
* angel numbers keep showing up. got a good few 333s today, which is interesting
* did a group tarot reading with my friends for kicks. three of the four of us drew (in order) a pentacles card, a swords card, and then two of those three pulled a major arcana card. coincidentally, both were the most known to all of us—the fool and the tower.
