in the amazing spider-man 2 (2014) Harry Osborn is revealed to have what I call goblin wasting disease, an unnamed degenerative disease inherited from his father Norman. we first see Norman on his deathbed looking approximately 600 years old in the late stages of goblin wasting disease, where he helpfully informs Harry that he first began experiencing symptoms at Harry's age (20). despite eventually succumbing to goblin wasting disease Norman seems to have lived a pretty long life, likely aided by being rich as all shit, which makes it a little jarring that Harry, seemingly a perfectly healthy young man, is on death's door with his skin rotting off approximately a week later. it would absolutely beggar belief but for the fact that Harry had been spending time in the company of one Felicia Hardy, a woman whose comics counterpart has the ability to subconsciously manipulate probability to cause bad luck to those around her. in this essay I will

Speaking of Across The Spider-Verse, I’m also kinda sad that Spiders-Man wasn’t in this, or at least if he was, he was a background cameo. I feel like the potential of a Peter Parker who is literally a sapient hive mind of psychic spiders because he was devoured alive by them just has so much potential for horror and tragedy that only fanfiction could truly milk out of the concept, when the original comics used him mainly for comedy. 

What’s more horrifying than the concept of losing yourself like that, losing your identity not because you’re gone, but because you can never resume it? What is being human when you’re a massive swarm of flesh eating spiders that’s cursed with the memories and feelings of a man? Yes, he jokes about wanting to eat people, but imagine being that person, you joke about it because you actually do and it’s all you can do to cope with it is make silly jokes about the real cravings you feel! And the reason you want to eat people is because you are literally a horde of spiders who devoured a man and now you are that man, you remember being Peter Parker. You remember being eaten alive. You’re a person. And you’re spiders. And you’re both!

Really I just want to see someone utilize the concept of Spiders-Man to its full potential beyond just the comedy of the name or jokes about craving human flesh.

Spiders-Man is the product of Peter Parker falling into and being consumed by a giant swarm of radioactive spiders. These spiders were an experiment done by Max Modell in Horizon Labs. Peter's consciousness imprinted on the swarm as a sort of template, and now the swarm is of the belief that they, as a collective hive mind, are Peter Parker.

Since they identify the same as Peter Parker, the swarm does not apply for the Gender Clause. However, due to the circumstances of Spiders-Man's creation, we can safely assume they apply for the Unconventional Birth Clause and Birth Parent Clause, the latter being true regardless of whether you attribute their creation to Parker or to Modell.

The Spiders I want to see in Beyond the Spider-Verse ranked by how likely I think they are to turn up.

1) Silk.... Honestly feels kinda inevitable, like they've been holding her back for the third part of the trilogy.

2) Madam Web, much the same as Silk feels like she's being held back for a finale.

3) Japanese Spider-Man honestly feels pretty much promised at this point only reason he's not the most likely is because of the rumour that he was meant to be in AtSV and was cut.

4) Cosmic Spider-Man honestly I heard someone on TikTok say "Pedro Pascal" as Cosmic Spider-Man who is also Jessica Drew's baby daddy and the idea has refused to leave my mind.

5) Spiders Man getting into meme characters now, ones that will probably just show up in the background or get one or two lines

6) Spider Ma'am another Meme character, look we love her but it's a gimmick....She should definitely get a scene with Spider Ham though.

7) Savage Spider-Man definitely a background character if he shows up at all.....Just this guy, Doppelganger and Man-Spider talking at a water cooler while the rest of the Spider Society back away nervously.

8) Wolf-Spider look, it's not gonna happen is it.... Beyond the Spider-Verse is already gonna be packed, we don't need an evil Spider-Man fucking things up.
