Speaking of Across The Spider-Verse, I’m also kinda sad that Spiders-Man wasn’t in this, or at least if he was, he was a background cameo.
I feel like the potential of a Peter Parker who is literally a sapient hive mind of psychic spiders because he was devoured alive by them just has so much potential for horror and tragedy that only fanfiction could truly milk out of the concept, when the original comics used him mainly for comedy.
What’s more horrifying than the concept of losing yourself like that, losing your identity not because you’re gone, but because you can never resume it?
What is being human when you’re a massive swarm of flesh eating spiders that’s cursed with the memories and feelings of a man?
Yes, he jokes about wanting to eat people, but imagine being that person, you joke about it because you actually do and it’s all you can do to cope with it is make silly jokes about the real cravings you feel!
And the reason you want to eat people is because you are literally a horde of spiders who devoured a man and now you are that man, you remember being Peter Parker. You remember being eaten alive. You’re a person. And you’re spiders. And you’re both!
Really I just want to see someone utilize the concept of Spiders-Man to its full potential beyond just the comedy of the name or jokes about craving human flesh.
Could spiders-man (the collective of spiders that believe that they are Peter Parker) kill Macbeth ?
Yes, Spiders-Man from the Marvel Comics could kill Macbeth!
Spiders-Man is the product of Peter Parker falling into and being consumed by a giant swarm of radioactive spiders. These spiders were an experiment done by Max Modell in Horizon Labs. Peter's consciousness imprinted on the swarm as a sort of template, and now the swarm is of the belief that they, as a collective hive mind, are Peter Parker.
Since they identify the same as Peter Parker, the swarm does not apply for the Gender Clause. However, due to the circumstances of Spiders-Man's creation, we can safely assume they apply for the Unconventional Birth Clause and Birth Parent Clause, the latter being true regardless of whether you attribute their creation to Parker or to Modell.
Time for me to tell you all the strange strange character history of my archnemesis Spiders-Man!
This character was first introduced in the 2018 Spider-Man event Spider-Geddon. He appeared for a few lines in the main event but his primary focus was in the side issue Vault of Spiders #2! He is introduced as collective of spiders that believe they are Peter Parker, but they are still a hero despite being spiders and constantly sad
The internet instantly fell in love with him and so he was destined to make a return to comics. The way he did return however was bad, really bad! The very next year in Superior Spider-Man (2019) issue #9 it was revealed that after Spider-Geddon he teamed up with Norman Osborn from another universe to become a villain in the 616 universe!
Together the two decide to terrorize Superior Spider-Man until Otto gets incredibly desperate. Eventually to defeat the two he makes a deal with Mephisto in exchange for undoing all Superior Spider-Man character development. They made Spiders-Man, a character who literally just became an internet meme a year before, directly responsible for another deal with the devil! It was one of the most infuriating comic stories I have ever read.
Doc Ock then proceeded to kill Spiders-Man and I thought that was the last of him.
But it looks like it wasn't! In the current adjectiveless Spider-Man run by Dan Slott (Not to be confused with the current Amazing Spider-Man run we all hate) [Those this run is still pretty meh] it has been revealed that some of Spiders-Man did survive! Peter Parker is keeping him in a glass container but he seems to be a good guy again? At the very least he loves Aunt May!
hopefully everyone knows about spiders-man but if you don't: there's a universe in the spiderverse where peter parker falls into a radioactive spider colony and is eaten alive but his consciousness transfers to the spiders so they are a colony of thousands of spiders who believe they are, collectively, peter parker
man i really wish there was more content for spiders-man out there. i love spiders? i love monsters? i love grappling with your own inhuman identity and animalistic urges that separate you from society??
spiders-man my beloved. bunch of spiders in a suit.
The fact that my Spiders-Man post is getting so much attention is so funny bc I see a lot of people being introduced to them for the first time and I feel honored to be the one to introduce you to the beauty of a sentient swarm of spiders LOL
