Episode 114 - 6.10 Caged Heat
There's just a lot going on in this one. So much. We get the return of Meg, in an enemy-of-my-enemy situation, we get Samuel and learn the depths to which he's willing to sink to get what he wants, the horror of his current situation, and we learn that Crowley was never able to get Sam's soul out of the cage making all their work for him bringing in monsters to torture (and yeesh to that...) pointless. But at least it looks like Cas is still on their side? >.>
I mean... it FEELS like we're getting to the heart of the truth, it FEELS like at least some of their problems have been resolved, right? *GAME SHOW LOSER BUZZER NOISES*
Welcome to season six... where the second you think you know the truth you fall through a trap door into a deeper layer of falsehoods!
(it's all still incredibly important to the overall narrative, and again, you can only tell that when you already know where this is all leading...)

Getting through season 6 was such a struggle for me. Season 5 is my absolute favorite of any television season ever, so following that up is already a challenge, but something about Sam being so out of character because he's soulless combined with the Campbell family and Dean's whole thing with Lisa and Ben just makes the show drag. I don't dislike the Soulless Sam plot, I just could do without either the Campbell plot or the dragging out of the Lisa and Ben storyline, and the combination of the three is what makes it so hard for me. French Mistake and onwards I really enjoy the season, but getting to that point is so hard.

SPN 6.10 - Caged Heat
This was a great episode for the Castiel girlies 😍
He’s so clueless sometimes that I forget he can actually be scary LMAO like that scene where he burns Crowley’s bones? Okay Cas pop off that was badass 🤭😌💅 I do love Crowley tho I kinda forget how or when he comes back

I love “Caged Heat” (6.10). It’s such a fantastic Soulless Sam episode. We get the awesome scene of him using that Indiana Jones reference to get Castiel to help, threatening him in the process. We get him leading the way on the hunt, figuring out what Meg is up to, bossing her and the demons around. And nobody will ever forget him biting his own arm to use his blood to draw a devil’s trap on the ceiling of his prison.
There was a real lost opportunity for the show to explore what we saw about Sam’s abilities in the episode and indeed all the soulless Sam episodes. Especially in light of the fact that Dean takes the lead on so many of their hunts and how Sam defers to Dean’s leadership, demands and desires, sometimes to his own detriment in later seasons. I would love to have seen some acknowledgement or discussion between them about just how capable Sam is and how it made Dean feel.
I could have done without the Meg torture scene however.

You really can tell Cas’s “much of the time, I’d rather be here” is true because he shows up at Bobby’s doorstep when he’s at his most vulnerable, after being wounded by Rachel. I mean arguably, he’s concerned that Rachel might have told other angels under his command what Cas is really up to, but he doesn’t turn to Balthazar either (who doesn’t seem to associate with the rest of the angels). He runs to Bobby’s for shelter. He does the same thing after swallowing all the souls blows up in his face. He runs to Team Free Will HQ.
