Fun Facts About My Grandpa, Mack McCoy

Was a good friend of Roy Disney

Ran moonshine during prohibition when he was 9/10 years old

Lived in an old farmhouse without running water until his late 20's.

Was classified 4F during the war, so he joined the Forest Service. The Forest Service was used to build roads and fight forest fires. Ever see a movie where fire fighters parachute out of air planes into the middle of burning forests? That's what he did during the first half of the 40's.

While he was in the Forest Service he met and became lifelong friends with a young man named Francis McCown, who would later be known as the actor Rory Calhoun. (My dad tells a story of meeting his dad's friend "Frank" sometime around 1966. Frank was in town to pick up a new car from the Ford dealership and also wanted to take my grandpa out to lunch. My dad tagged along. Boy, was my dad surprised when Frank turned out to be the guy from the western movies.)

He built engines and chassis for Indy cars, Sprint cars and Midgets. His work was said to be very high quality and because of this he became well known in racing circles.

After 2 years of building cars he started racing. They say he was fast, especially in midgets. One quote I've heard about him, "If Mack passes you, that's it. You won't be able to get in front of him."

AJ Foyt had a bad habit of physically fighting anyone who beat him. When he tangled with my grandpa though, he regretted it.

One of the cars that my grandpa built was used in the Clark Gable movie To Please A Lady (1950). It can be seen in the first race sequence around 9 minutes in. It is car #36 with the square grille and "M" insignia. He never knew that his car was used in a movie, but he would have been honored.

Among the racers that have driven his cars are Bill and Eli Vukovich, Parnelli Jones and Bobby Unser.

He retired from racing and became a mechanic for a Ford dealership around 1960 because his wife requested that he change careers. He never really talked about racing ever again after that.

He was also a rodeo rider for a time in the 1930's and 40's.

Also among his well known friends were Henry Hull and Arthur Hunnicut, but I don't know how he met them.

That's all I can really remember at the moment. I'll probably update this later as I learn more. Bonus Facts:

Bill and Eli Vukovich and Parnelli Jones (who went by the name Rufus) used to spend weekends at my family's house when they were racing near town. They used to get drunk on cheap beer, start good natured fist fights and break up my grandmother's furniture. But they never failed to replace the broken coffee tables and chairs.

the olympic sprinters have such insane swag for a sport that nobody cares about. they all jump six feet in the air and run around to warm up because the races are less than 20 seconds and they have to get hyped up. they all have insane biceps and for what, how do you even use biceps for sprinting. noah lyles (yugioh card guy) shit talking the nba for not being actual world champions and then backing it up by taking gold wearing a silver choker and with a pearl crown braided into his hair. sha’carri richardson and her huge acrylics and perfect eyeliner somehow coming back from a slow start to take silver in a race that takes just over 10 seconds. yes ma’am

When I first saw the Canal+ reporters comment about Max “letting Lando through” my immediate reaction was that that was offensive to Lando.

Legit. My first thought was how insulting because what racing driver wants to win like that? And what racing driver would willingly just let their opponent through without defending?

And then I saw that Lando said it himself.

And well…my reaction to that? it’s just a bit sad really

Ino seems like the type of guy who'd be into older women.

Like he's in his 20's at this new office job and he's constantly trying and flirt with his older coworker. Not in an annoying cocky way but with a sort of boyish charm.

Like he'd call you ma'am and be all formal and respectful. He complements you way more than is normal for coworkers but the compliments are so sweet and feel like he actually pays attention to the effort you put into how you look.

You're always looking out for him at work cus he's the youngest on the team and the other coworkers like to haze him.

To repay the favour he tries so hard to be helpful to you around the office. He learns how you like your tea or coffee and tries to nonchalantly make small talk with you when he brings it to your desk. He walks you to your car at the end of the day "for safety". He grins and scratches the back of his head when you say, "Thank you, Sweety".

You ask him to help you with technical things sometimes with a, "Sweetheart, could you give me a hand?"

Everyone thinks it's puppy love, that the poor new guy is pussy whipped but Ino Is SO serious. Maybe one of the coworkers says to him "Dude she's divorced" and Ino's like "Damn, how could you fumble that badly"

It's obvious he's really into you but would never want to be disrespectful and he thinks you're waaaay out of his league.

This idea is only solidified when he sees you dressed up for a work party. You bump into him in the elevator and his brain is smoking trying to think of a good enough compliment, 'you look really pretty. No! Pretty is too juvenile! Beautiful? No, basic. Gorgeous! Yeah, gorgeou-' his inner dialogue is cut short when you lean closer to fix his tie for him.

"You're so stiff Ino, relax. We're not at work right now, alright?"

He nods rather...stiffly, you just lightly laugh and walk out the elevator when the doors ring open.

He thinks about it the whole night. He wants to treat you right. He wants to please you like no man has before, show you that he's capable and mature enough for a woman like you. He imagines what sweet pet names you'd call him while he pleasures you. Would you run your nails through his hair and call him a good boy while he sucks on your tits? Would you be impressed with his stamina, his strength?

Has to excuse himself to the bathroom, 3 times during the night. He feels so pathetic that he's having all these lewd thoughts about his coworker, who probably only sees him as an immature guy.

So imagine his utter shock when he's walking you to your car at the end of the night and you softly say the words.

"Would you like to come home with me, Ino?"

The difference between Max and Norris is 62, whereas the difference between Norris-Charles is 24, Norris-Oscar is 44, Charles-Oscar is 20, and Oscar-Carlos is 13.

Charles and Oscar are closer to Lando than Lando is to Max. In fact, Oscar is only 20 points behind Charles. Even Sainz Jr is only 13 points behind Oscar. If Lando has one non-podium finish and one of these 4 win that GP, the gap goes down even if they don't move up. Say Charles wins Baku (we're not going to assume fastest lap, it's a wildcard), he gains 25 points, and Norris finishes at 4th gaining 12 points. Charles would go up 242 and Lando would be 253, an immense reduction.

Not even Charles, if Oscar wins, his wdc points go up 222, and Norris goes to 253, reducing the gap 31. If Sainz Jr finishes above Oscar, he could potentially move above him, even without a podium finish. We could have an even more interesting outcome if one of the Mercs finishes in the top 4, one of these 5 guys would be out of the top 5.

《Edit: I completely forgot we still have 3 sprints left. Putting that into the mix will change things as well. Oscar has done well in Sprints, even cinching his first win at a Sprint in F1. This is another element to consider.》

Charles has gotten pole for the last 3 years at Baku, but we all know the reasons he did not win. Ferrari have shown they can challenge that McLaren rocketship, they have one insane driver. We have 2 kids who are the least experienced in F1 compared to rest of the grid on a decently difficult street track. Baku might be an interesting weekend, but I am not going to say anything.
