The Jackal Project is a fanmade backstory rewrite for the Jackal Squad from Sonic Forces. We follow their trials and tribulations from childhood to adulthood in an episodic fashion as we get to know the world they live in and find out what makes the Jackal Squad, well, the Jackal Squad.

There are 3 parts planned, following the beginnings of the team (Origins), their (mis)adventures through teenage hood and organizing themselves, and their inevitable downfall (Falling Down). We join Finn, Hattie, Lucky, Pen, and Cobalt on their occasionally rough and dangerous path down life, and watch them grow and change overtime. This comic explores themes of family, consequences, and change, with writing and character art by @niko-jpeg and background work by @bat-luun !

Thank you @crow-with-a-typewriter for this tag! I decided to do a piece from my main WIP, which everyone got a glimpse of in the Legends of Vishaps snippets (The Escape and The Beginning (those happen before the events of my WIP). I tried to cut the scene but it's somewhat long, so bear with me :)

“Get out of here, both of you.” George's face is expressionless when he speaks, but the wobble in his voice reveals his state. “Now!”

Sar meets his gaze for a short moment before grabbing Amber’s forearm and pulling her after him. He doesn’t stop until they reach Mrs Fora’s house and doesn’t loosen his grip on her wrist until they are inside. Amber expects him to lead her through the tunnel to the keep, but he does not. Instead, he lets go of her arm and sits by the fireplace, covering his face with both hands. She feels guilt tugging at her heart when she watches him. He did not deserve this. Out of everyone in this godforsaken place, Sar was the last person she would want to hurt. She crosses the room, placing her hand on his shoulder.

“I’m sorry, Sar,” Amber musters, unsure if a proper hug will be welcomed. She sits by his side, hugging his shoulders with one arm. He shakes his head with a bitter smile, and she repeats. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have left without a warning.” 

“You don’t feel safe in the castle with us,” he states. It’s not a question but Amber wants to argue regardless. She wants to assure him that if there is one person that she feels safe with, it’s him. Sar shushes her with a short gesture. 

“I don’t blame you. There is a lot you don’t know.” He claims, his eyes finally meeting hers. He longs to tell her everything. It’s obvious letting her remember on her own wasn’t working as anticipated. There was no easy way around this, and they could only nivellate it so much. Perhaps ripping the scab off the wound and letting the pus out would be better.

“If you wish to stay in town, you can stay here.” Amber is stunned into silence, which makes Sar chuckle. “It’s not much, but it should work better than the inn.”

She takes a moment to consider the offer and nods in agreement. 

“Told you, I’m the smartest.” Sar grins at her, despite knowing this is a temporary solution. He’s not sure how much time they have left. George has been overwrought since yesterday evening. The squad they had sent out was delayed; his conversation with Amber went miserably sour, and then, when he went to check on her, he discovered she was gone. They had spent the night searching for her, starting from every nook in the castle and extending further into the city as dawn neared.

The door swings open and slams shut behind George’s back. Sar gets up, giving her shoulder a squeeze, and mouths a ‘Good luck’ before disappearing into the tunnel. Luck is something she is sure to require, Amber thinks as she turns around to face George, but the young man doesn’t spare her a glance. His eyes glimmer with anger when she opens her mouth. 

“Don’t even dare,” George snarls, pacing the room like a trapped animal. His nostrils are flaring as he tries to breathe deeply, but the lump in his throat doesn’t allow it. He runs his hands through his hair to concentrate on the pending issue. The rest can wait. Or so he hopes. “How can you do this to them?”

Amber ignores his question, facing away from him as she stares at the tapestry on the wall. George can feel he is close to completely losing it. His pulse is throbbing in his ears, obscuring any external sounds from reaching his brain. He restrains himself from hurling a pillow at her or, better yet, punching the nearest wall. His eyelids drop, shutting the world and her out of his mind. When he finally speaks, Amber jumps at the change in his voice. 

“If you want to hate me - fine, do as you please.” George did not intend to sound so broken – he hates that weakness with the entirety of his being. But he felt the change this morning. The air was too thin, the sky was a strange shade of grey, and water vibrated differently around his hands when he submerged them in the fountain. The familiarity of it set tight in the pit of his stomach. He knew what was coming. And he was not ready for that meeting. “I know you think you are alone in this world, but you are not. You have no idea what being truly alone feels like. They have always been by your side, no matter what. They are not your enemy, I can swear on that. If you are desperate to find an enemy, take me. Hate me, yell at me, curse me, hit me if you have to. But don’t be rude to people who did so much to protect you.”

Amber lets out a dark laugh, turning on her heels and casting a glance over him. George thinks he must look pathetic to her. “Protect me? Is that what you call that?” His lips part in question when she interrupts it. “Sar has offered me to live here. I accepted.” 

“What- you can’t,” As much as George wanted it to sound like an order, it was a plea. You can’t do that. Not to them. Not to me. You can’t leave. He knows it’s not the castle he is thinking about right now. He can almost hear the giant wings flapping, cutting through the air like sharp glass. His tongue stings with the familiar taste of salt, and his skin prickles at the memory of blood and oil mixing on his forehead. He can smell the dampness of the earth and the smoke from burning reeds that fill his lungs. He can feel the sensation of the cold metal touching his skin as chains are wrapped around his neck and wrists.

“Leave me alone,” Amber demands, meeting his gaze to let him know she is aware of her control over him. Go away. Now! His limbs obey the order against his will, pulling George up and turning him towards the tunnel when Sar rushes through the door with a wild look in his eyes. He reaches them in two long strides, hands trembling as he catches his breath.

“It’s back.” 

It’s all Sar manages to utter before multiple cries of horror fill the air. People start running around, hurrying to grab the kids and hide in their basements. The sky goes dark in a matter of seconds, but before she can react, a screeching sound floods Amber’s ears. She screams, covering them with her palms, but notices that Sar is unaffected. When she turns to George, his face is torn between dread and determination. He knew it was coming.

Yet he did not expect it to happen so soon.

I just wanna say I've seen so many people complain about Kai being put in wrong positions for that 65m transfer fee. Hmm first of all, once the price tag still haunts you you can never be satisfied. Second off, Jesus plays CF with the skillset of a winger, Nelli plays winger with a CF skillset don't forget he played there at first. Ben White moved to RB from CB, the same to Tomi. #5 (I mention him for sample size) plays #6 with an #8 skillset. Rice is currently not a pure 6 as well. Zinchenko was originally a midfielder. The one constantly starting that is playing true to their nominal position is Jorginho, a real lone 6 (but he's aging tears).

-> Position is just a name for Mikel. As long as he reckons a player’s profile and skills is suitable for certain role(s) or/and he can train that player for the role(s) then he'll do it. In some specific game states against big opp (technically and physically) and we lose our default #9 yes Kai will be our #9 or/and the late game changer wild card that looks like a #9 but in the long term we have to accept Kai is our #8 with the skillset of a SS.

Third off, whether we like it or not Mikel will spend at least 1/3 of the ssn just to test things out, sometimes forcefully due to injuries. So mathematically he has at least 4 more games to rotate the squad, try his personnel or so. Don't forget Timber is reported to potentially be back around Feb to March so there are lots of pending tactics we've just seen the trailer.

And last but not least, we really don't know more than the boss hehe. We only see players 90 min/week and assess them solely via the screen thus ruling out the human factors. Mikel works closely with them weeks in weeks out and he knows who is the best fit physically, technically, mentally and emotionally even. So yeah.

00:00 Recruiting Wrex. Which, I had never recruited Wrex prior to Garrus before, and I may make it default for Wren? Something about going after the mercenary lead first makes sense; Garrus is likely to be a more stable, still there later, lead. But this would be one of those very flexible defaults, she could do it either way, and I will probably record it with subtitles both ways sometime.

General disclaimer: This is not meant to be a 1:1 to my roleplay portrayal, even if it can be used as a reference for choices and just as a general “people can watch this if they are interested/wanna know Wren/the game more” fun thing. In gameplay, I tend to exhaust dialogue options; for a lot of asking questions, Wren actually would already be aware of the answers so sometimes it’s more about wanting to show the dialogue (for people not familiar with the game) and gaining XP, other times (mostly when conversing with people about their personal experiences) she asks about things she is aware of because she wants the story from the person themselves, and to show care. Also, gaming dynamics obviously have their limits.

I record everything. I edit out reduntant getting lost on the map (happens a lot more you’d expect), repeat dialogue, and/or speed through leveling up, modding equipment, etc. If I am reading something while playing, I keep the text in my edits for long enough for me to be able to read (I’m a slow reader). Stuff less relevant to the story, such as planet descriptions, I keep in the video but only very briefly so that the information is there and readable if the video is paused.

I mainly record for my own reference/screencapping etc. purposes. That’s why there also are no subtitles, though I will record clips I specifically want to share with subtitles on.

You may use my videos freely for anything you wish, such as screencapping your muse if you play someone from the games etc.

Ever since the first day they had met, Rui had pretty much become a regular travelling companion for Inosuke and his small group of friends. He made a good addition to the group, being that he was pretty much their medic, things had become much easier.

☣ || “Why do you think that?” HE ASKS SOFTLY. “Yer sayin’ that they did all this stuff for you despite it being hard, but you think that it would have been better if ya weren’t around? I don’t know a think about my parents, not even what the two of ‘em look like. I can only assume they didn’t want me since I ended up in the mountains with the wild boars. But I still believe that yer parents loved you and are probably really proud of you for making it this far for them.”

The sun had been seemingly hiding behind the clouds all day, and it had only just stopped raining so the sand she had been sitting on was still rather damp. In truth, this had been the first time she had ever been to a beach, even if it wasn’t anything like how beaches were supposed to be. The water was no longer blue and the creatures that lived inside of it were possibly more dastardly than the ones on land, if that were possible.

I timestapmed this a while ago so I have less commentary than usual for the self-roast etc because I can't remember shit. I do remember, though, that this part is a good example of the general "in-game isn't 1:1 to blog portrayal" what with exhausting a lot of the conversation options. I aim for this to be a "full" playthrough so like I'm recording the full Avina conversations, but a lot of that stuff... would probably be stuff that she either already knows or at the very least even if she likes to hear the facts from the actual people rather than the extranet (OK, Avina is a VI anyway but), she'd probably not stop to ask questions while being supposed to be rushing to the Council chambers XD See also she would never essentially brag at Avina for having an audience with the Council but that was one of the "Havu did not think the tone of that dialogue tree was that and clicked it anyway" times that happens way too much in this game.

Also? 100 percent I'm doing the Scan the Keepers quest for the money and the XP. Wren would... not fuck with that, and most likely report it to C-Sec. But I'm doing it because money and XP and also I like the little things the mod adds to it loool.

One more note, I don't think I had installed the mod that fixes mumbling NPCs yet for this part but I know I did sometime fairly early on. Paired with no subtitles this is not ideal but. Eh.
