Here's the mini comic of Dipper's nightmare! I know the idea of Mabel being the one to have the nightmare about pushing the button has been played with before, but I wanted to explore that with Dipper. (Also sort of a way to include some bonding time with Stan). Plus I think they both benefit having a more serious talk like this.

Upon the last day of late Stanuary works I’m posting this sketch because for some reason it’s resisting my attempts to draw it the style of my other stuff, but I wanted to get it out there anyway. I’ll probably end up finishing it sometime this spring, when I don’t have to focus on Forduary (that’s also giving me trouble) and art for like 4 new D&D characters.

How about Stan helping Dipper with anxiety attacks? Only it's not really help. I mean, it is, because Stan's speaking genuinely out of care, but the advice doesn't really sound like the most helpful one. I'm just gonna make it a dialog to get the vision across better.

Stan: Do you know what calms me down during a panic attack?

Dipper: What?

Stan: ✨Harmonicas.✨

Dipper: ... What?

Stan: Ok, so basically. When you're hyperventilating just put a harmonica against your mouth. It's gonna make funny noises and distract you from whatever it is you're pointlessly stressing over.

Stan and Dipper bond by arguing. Every day at the shack, Stan and dipper are arguing about something. Really, it’s cause they both enjoy the fight, and they fully know the other can take their jabs. Dipper enjoys it because it proves that Stan isn’t going to treat him like some kid, and that Stan actually challenges his ideas and opens new perspectives. Stan enjoys it because if dipper’s willing to argue back at him, it’s because A) he feels safe enough to do so, meaning he fundamentally trusts Stan, and B) Dipper isn’t going to end up as some pushover and will be the kind of man he ought to be which makes him proud

The arguments are generally petty, and spurred on by Stan talking nonsense in purpose. They will generally last about half an hour to an hour, but it’s been known to last longer when the two get especially impassioned. But somehow, by the end of the day, they’ll happily sit together and watch trash TV whist talking about their days.

Ford doesn’t get it at all. He doesn’t understand quite how Stan and Dipper can constantly be arguing but still love each other so much and get along so well. It kind of drives him mad. He’s tried device he’s got to try and figure it out, everything except asking the two. Mabel told him once that it’s because they’re sweaty constantly.

One summer, dipper and Ford get into a nasty fight. It lasts a full week, and Ford is besides himself on what to do. He didn’t realise that Dipper could be so STUBBORN. It bums him out. So he talks to Stan, who for once gives good advice. Thanks to which, dipper and Ford are back to being best science buds. Ford can’t help but feel proud of how well Stanley knows his nephew.

Dipper and Stan WIP. I think I'm gonna put some colored pencil on it. They're looking at the stars. Happen to be looking at the big Dipper. I asked my friend for ideas and she said "nighttime fishing" and I was like "they'd do that." So I had to draw.

With Stan constantly wanting Dipper to not take his shit and him relating to the Duchess, it really feels like Stan is projecting his wish of wanting to stand up against his own dad....

And while Stan always internalised the things Filbrick said to him, the fact that Stan decided to get that "daddy issues" book shows he's definitely aware he has major issues™️ so maybe one day he'll make progress...

(+ bonus Stan relating too much to Dipper and being painfully aware that he's putting them in danger...)

Stanley and Sixer!

Sent to Gravity Falls to live with a great aunt they barely know with no warning, the twins have… slightly different reactions. Stanley is not at all impressed with the idea of kicking it around some backwater town for a summer when they could've been working on the Stan o' War. Stanford is also put-out, but is optimistic about finding fun in documenting interesting things in the woods. Their attitudes pick up even more when they discover a spellbook lost in the woods that teaches them that Gravity Falls is full of weirdness and adventure. They both want to discover the two Authors of the spellbook, though each has a secret favorite author they want to meet in particular.

Stanley: With his brash yet suspicious personality, he finds his fun in looking for monsters in the woods with the hopes of beating them up and making a name for himself--a stance the creatures of Gravity Falls don't appreciate much. He feels a growing distance between himself and Stanford and has no idea what to do with it or how to talk to his twin about it, so he masks it with bravado and charm. He constantly thinks of ways to make himself important and interesting, which often blow up in his face. Thinks he's cooler than he really is.

Stanford, aka Sixer: Once he realized that Gravity Falls is a town full of weirdness, Stanford was thrilled by the thought that it might be a blessing in disguise, a place to finally branch out and make friends who won't run once they see his hands. He really, really wants to make friends with anomalies, like one of the sirens that supposedly live in the lake or the boy who claims to be a psychic. This goal combined with his trusting nature might lead him down dangerous paths. At least he has Stanley to help him! Though lately it feels like Stanley has been less honest and more clingy than usual, and it's starting to grate on him...

While Dipper and Ford are paralleled in the show, I feel like Ford as a child would have an attitude that parallels Canon Mabel's better in terms of inciting the plot. They're both enthusiastic to the point of being Too Much, intense, and often convinced they're right above what others think, and I just feel like him having a quest to find friends takes the place of Mabel's quest for a boyfriend very well. Meanwhile this Stanley has the skeptical but investigative attitude of Canon Dipper, and I could see him being the type to want to prove himself a la Dipper vs Manliness, provoking people he really shouldn't provoke in the name of showing who he can be.
