"having just finished a rewatch of Deep Space 9, I’m irritated all over again with Picard season 3. They lift the Changelings and (imo) use red eyes as a red-herring implying Pah-Wraiths, Worf comes back (!) and not a single other DS9 character is mentioned let alone someone brought back?? Not even a cursory “if there was more time, I’d reach out to Doctor Bashir” or “it’s a shame Odo is incommunicado [for reasons]” or “I was reading Captain Sisko’s logs” just something! Drove me absolutely batty. Not to say Trek properties can’t use villains/species from other properties, etc, heck, DS9 was basically built off doing just that. But Picard s3 was a nostalgia fest for the 90s shows — except DS9, and I am petty enough to say it felt deliberate.

I will say though that the number of times Janeway was mentioned, I fully expected we’d see her, if only very briefly, and then we just… didn’t and that was also weird. The season was a mess."

Okay so I will concede that Picard season 3 is actually good and worth watching, but only if we can all agree that the first two seasons just do not exist. They are so bad. So so so bad. So bad that in fact they retconned THEIR OWN SEASON 2 PLOT in season 3.

Already I'm going to rewatch TNG now to truly cleanse my palate.

‘Mercy’ Picard 2:8

I’ve said this countless times, one of the most beautiful aspects of Seven of Nine as a character for me is her depth.

Seeing her have a flashback and experience PTSD in broad daylight is very validating for those who have experienced a similar sensation.

No but the difference between the Borg Queen relationship with Seven, Picard and later Jurati is fascinating to me.

Picard was her first attempt beyond assimilation to try and create a connection with another living thing. But it fails because Picard isn't Borg. He's human who happened to briefly be a Borg Drone. Just like all the others..

She wants an equal. Billions under her command and she's lonely. Because despite erasing the individuality of billions she is an individual. The one voice in the chaos.

The next attempt would actually be Data. An Android. His machine like her. But that also fails. For the same reason it failed with Picard.

Then comes along Seven. She started as human but she's Borg. Connected to the hive she's just Drone. But when cut off from it she is still Borg. An individual Borg like the Queen. At first she's intrigued but then it's love.

Because Seven is everything the Borg could be. Everything the Queen could be. But Seven picks Janeway and the crew of Voyager. That rejection hurts. For the first time since being assimilated herself the Borg Queen feels love and pain at rejection.

Then comes along Jurati. She understands the loneliness, that desire for a connection and offers, a chance to a create a universe full of Sevens. Forever being one with the Borg Queen.

The evolution of one of the most deadly species in the universe is cool. I know some fans aren't fans of it but I think it's cool af.

Can someone please explain how Seven is more attractive with her Borg implants than without them? Is this a thing? Or is this a lesbian thing? Or is this just a weird overly specific personal kink?

Either way, this is probably the only thing I'm actually taking with me from Picard season 2.

Silver Q - (finally!) A one shot from "Hello, My Dear"

“You’re about two hundred years too early to be wearing that outfit,” he drawls, referring to your mid-24thcentury uniform. He lifts an eyebrow. “Or a billion years too late depending on which side of the timeline you’re from. Who are you?” 

“Just me,” you answer simply, raising one shoulder in a shrug. 

He scrutinizes you a second time, growing irritated. You are not a Q, or one of those insufferable, insouciant Travelers. Aside from the El Aurian, you’re as pathetically human as everyone else on this odious planet. Yet somehow you are less-than-human, and more…more. There is an undefinable quality about you that suggests you have been alive far longer than you appear. But stranger still is your undeniably affectionate smile. No one ever looks at him affectionately. And now that it’s happening, he is not entirely sure if he likes it. It means that you know his secrets and where all the skeletons are buried and may have even helped him dispose of one or two. 

You’ve picked up his newspaper and started skimming the headlines, and blink in surprise when he plucks it out of your hands. 

“Answer me,” he barks. “Who. Are. You?”

You musingly tilt your head, mulling over the question. “How did you put it? An adorably harmless angel of death?”

His face twists. He cannot afford the luxury of squandering his powers on putting a maybe-mortal upstart in her place, but pride gets the better of him. Teeth clenched, he snaps his fingers (successfully, this time) and whisks you both to a more secluded area.

I just can't believe how much Q loves Picard. After decades of Picard resisting him, Q STILL wants him and adores him.

I mean, just look at Q's loving gaze down at him!

Picard just looks like he's thinking, "I just can't ever shake this guy, can I?"
