Biting the bullet to talk about it.
Starving Anonymous as a series overall displays splatterpunk better than any Aaron Beauregard book ever can or will.
Splatterpunk, as a movement, was created with the uprising of Dadaism. It's literally challenging censorship and displaying capitalism as violently affecting human kind. I will obviously say that any graphic SA a series contains is obviously unnecessary, no doubt, even if it's there to make a point.
But I can't say it's ineffective. At the very least, the shock value is there for good reason; the idea humanity is built around a power that exploits and consumes us is relevant. Our wills are broken just to be eaten by this machine. Those who aren't accepted are fed in to different kind of brainwashing than just blind acceptance.
Society doesn't view women as people, it doesn't view youth outside of the norm as anything more than a threat to be hunted down. The second they cause issue to the system put in place, they're hunted and killed.
Now I'm not going to ignore the glaring issues the series starving anonymous has. Some of the twists come so damn late and it's just like... KILL THE FUCKING ALIENS ALREADY I DONT CARE ABOUT YOUR TRAGEDY DUDE!
I'd be happy to analyze it further, idk if anyone is interested. I'd love to revise my 38 panel on slideshow on it too cause there's a lot that I'd like to actually dive into with the series overall. For the first series, despite the pacing being shit, I'd like to actually analyze it fully through a splatterpunk lense.
I also reccomend looking up articles on splatterpunk before it was watered down to "needless sexual violence against women and children because ????? Shock! Ahhh! Gross!"
