I don't know - do you want updates for my sock making journey?
In the first class, we struggled with the clunkiness of DPNS (read: figured out how to hold and manage them in a way that works for us as individuals), and completed the cuff ribbing.
Homework was to complete stockinette until the sock was 6 inches. I went a little too zen, and accidentally did 6 inches just of stockinette. So I might have a bit of a longer leg. Not the worst mistake to make :D
Top-Down in sock/DK weight. <3

Okay so, I'm doing something wrong when attempting to stockinette stitch and I require the help of the hivemind:
I have no issue with the garter stitch portion of things, it seems that I am somehow mucking up the purl portion as I have horizontal ribbing on both sides
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am inserting my right needle into the top of the stitch, bringing my yarn around to the front of the needle and making the stitch.
Where is my error? Is it tensioning that makes the ribbing prominent?
That doesn't seem correct to me so I'm lost trying to sort out where I must be misplacing my needle.

I am making progress on this sweater 🙌

I had to redo the whole thing because I used the wrong cast on for the ribbing and it was making holes in it (??) but this new cast on makes it look so much better.
This is maybe a day’s work. Idk I don’t really keep track

Chat we're at it again, and I've taught myself double knitting which is SO FUN. So I'm working on just a basic scarf with this variegated yarn and for whatever reason I was in tan hell but lo!! The colors, I love

I also tried to cake the rest of the yarn so I could store it better but, um, idk how but I egged it instead.

A moment for a petty complaint:
When people are explaining how to weave in ends, in a tutorial or any video, and they say to "just follow the path of the yarn" or "double the stitches" and then proceed to do THIS
Tumblr media
That's a valid way to weave in your ends, assuming your yarn is wooly enough to not slip and it won't be super visible, but that's simply not what you've described.
Tumblr media
THIS is following the path of the yarn. It is also the superior way to weave in ends securely and least-visibly from both sides.

Socks! Socks! Socks, socks, socks... (*sing to the tune of LMFAO's Shots*)
As you can see I ran out of yarn *just* at the finish line (because I'm an idiot and just assumed they wouldn't sell sock yarn for less than two socks, but it was a 50g ball and i simply can't read), but decided not to go out and buy more of the grey yarn since it's a) pretty awful quality, b) a weirdly unpleasant shade and c) I didn't want to spend any more money on this pattern. They turned out very nicely from a craft standpoint, I think! I *could* undo the left sock's toe cap and knit that in blue so they match, but I don't think I'm going to. I'm pretty happy with the job I did here, but I don't love how weirdly low the heel sits and how tiny the toe cap is in this pattern - my weird little toes are definitely going to wear holes into the sides of this sock very quickly. Also I personally think the deep stitch chain should run along the middle instead of the bit of garter stitch, because this way the middle stretches weirdly across the foot and makes them look a little weird from above (my feet swell up sometimes and I'm kinda self-conscious about that kind of thing, this probably wouldn't bother most people lol)
anyway, Mum, I get it now, knitting socks is VERY satisfying.
