Anonymous Request: Can I please ask a Steve x- ex-best friend reader where he gets really sick, like barely conscious, and Y/N takes care of him by staying awake during the nights? But as he wasn't conscious enough, he thinks it was Nancy, and Y/N doesn't tell anyone. Months later, he somehow accidentally finds the truth and I wanna leave the aftermath up to you❤️I don't know if this makes sense, though. You don't have to make it if you don't like it, doesn't matter😊
A/N: I'm a sucker for the friends-to-lovers trope. I feel like that's a majority of the x-readers I write 😂. I also think this is the longest x-reader I have ever made! Thank you for requesting, love!!
Summary: You and Steve were always best friends, but after befriending Carol and Tommy, the two of you fell apart. You miss him every day. Now, your high school career is coming to a close. After attending a party at his house, Steve falls sick the next morning. You decided to stay with Steve, not really wanting to leave him alone because you knew he would never take care of himself.

Y/N/N: Your Nick Name
Y/L/N: Your Last Name

(Third Person View)
Relationship break-ups are hard, but so are friendship break-ups. Y/N and Steve had been friends since they were toddlers, so close that they'd take baths with one another. People always say that you significantly change during your high school years, but nobody told Y/N that she'd lose her best friend.
Steve and Y/N met Carol and Tommy during their freshmen year of high school. It seemed harmless to meet the couple, but Y/N slowly noticed changes in Steve. He began ditching their movie and game nights, their study sessions, and overall hanging out. Carol and Tommy were always there, like, always there.
Y/N couldn't take a break from them. And sometimes, that's how Y/N truly felt. Y/N stayed by Steve's side, afraid that if she left, she'd lose him forever. But Y/N would lose him no matter what. Steve knew that he wasn't hanging out with Y/N as much.
During their Junior year, Steve wanted to say something, but of course, he was tied up with his new popularity level. So much that it clouded his vision. He thought about telling Y/N so many times but didn't know the right way to say it. And Y/N thought about confronting him but also didn't know how to say it.
And, now, it was their senior year. The two hadn't spoken since freshmen year, other than being project or lab partners. Thankfully, they were on better terms. A lot of people noticed Steve changed, not just them but Y/N.
She saw how much he grew to care about his grades, the way he spoke to people, and who he associated himself with. Even though Y/N wanted to talk to him, there was still some inkling in her that believed he didn't want to talk to her. She knew it was stupid to think that because Y/N understood that Steve liked her.
They knew too much about each other to know they couldn't last long without one another. But, they haven't spoken since the fall, so I guess that belief was proven wrong. Since it was their senior year, it seemed like everyone was having an end-of-the-year party.
And Steve was just one of those students. He hadn't thrown a party since freshmen year but decided that it might be nice to host one. Here Y/N was, standing in the middle of her room, trying to decide what to wear. Hazel, Y/N's older sister, and Nancy sat on Y/N's bed.
"What do you think about this one?" Y/N asked. She held up a purple skirt matched with a white blouse with a few ruffles on the hem. Nancy tilted her head at the outfit her friend held up. "Try it with a different top," she said. Y/N nodded and fished around her closet for a grey button-down.
She turned back around to her sister and friend. Hazel grinned, giving Y/N a wide smile and two thumbs up. "Much better," she said. Y/N thanked her, setting the outfit onto her dresser. Nancy went back to look through some magazines Hazel brought in. "Haze, you wanna come with us?" Nancy offered.
Nancy looked up from the magazine to see Hazel's answer. "I would, but I think it would be weird if a twenty-two-year-old came to a party full of eighteen-year-olds," Hazel said. "True," Nancy nodded. Even though Nancy was an underclassman, she knew a couple seniors, including Y/N and Steve, which granted her access to his party.
Y/N chuckled and went into her bathroom to get changed. Hazel left a few minutes after Y/N changed. "Hey, can I ask you something?" Nancy asked as Y/N stepped back into her room. "Sure," Y/N replied.
She dropped her clothes into the laundry basket. Nancy sighed and sat on the edge of the bed with her hands sitting beside her. "Why haven't you talked with Steve since, like, forever?" Nancy asked.
Y/N looked at her, not expecting the question. She sighed and played with the thread on her skirt. "I don't know. The right moment hasn't come up," she shrugged. Nancy's brows furrowed in response. She smiled softly. "The right moment? Y/N, you practically live in the right moment," Nancy said, "Honestly, I'm surprised you didn't tell him when we were dealing with Dart and his friends."
"Because I was mainly focusing on saving my ass and everyone else," Y/N remarked. She didn't like to admit it to herself. But Y/N felt something when she began talking to Steve again. The two were with Dustin and his friends at the junkyard leading up to the encounter with Billy at the Byers.
You'd think that they would talk after, but it wasn't like that. They were talking more than they had before. Both Steve and Y/N knew there was still some growing to do, but maybe they could grow together? "I thought about it, believe me," Y/N sighed, "I mean, what if he doesn't want to talk to me?"
Nancy was taken aback by Y/N's statement. Nancy was aware that Steve wanted to talk to her. She had spoken with him about it that night at the Byers. Nancy withheld from saying anything because she felt that Steve and Y/N needed to be the ones to say it. "You'd be surprised, Y/N/N," Nancy said.
________
(Y/N's Point of View - Steve's Party)
"Stop pulling at your skirt. It looks fine," Nancy said, shutting the car door. I shot her a look and dropped my hands. She playfully rolled her eyes, locking the car. I guess I should've known that Steve's house would be crowded with people. "Why'd you make me wear it?" I asked, fixing the bow on the side.
Nancy looked back at me with raised brows. She rolled her eyes and continued walking. "Because the color looks great on you, and you needed to wear something else besides jeans," Nancy said. She fixes the strap of her purse, motioning for me to walk beside her. "But jeans are great," I said.
She chuckled. Nancy opened the door, letting out a billion different sounds. The two of us walked into Steve's house and looked for our friends. "I'll be right back," Nancy said. "No, wait. Nance," I called after her but wasn't successful. She was already halfway through the crowd by the time I wanted to follow her.
I decided to make my way over to the kitchen. Given I knew this house like the back of my hand, I knew where Steve kept the drinks other than alcohol. There were a few people crowding around the island. I pushed past them, reaching for the bottom shelf of the fridge.
People walked past me, trying to get to the other side of the kitchen. I shivered when I held the non-spiked lemonade. Nancy was still nowhere to be found. I loved her, but she had a habit of leaving me at parties.
Being the best person she is, she profusely apologizes. After a few seconds of standing there, I walked over to the porch outside. I sat down at a table with the drink. "Nice skirt," someone said. My shoulders dropped when I saw Carol standing there.
She stood there with a smirk on her face. I hadn't spoken to her since Freshmen year. On top of that, I practically ignored her in the halls. I was kind of impressed that I managed to 'forget' about her. But nobody could forget Carol. Her personality controlled that.
"May I sit? My legs are killing me from all that dancing," she chuckled. Without waiting for my response, she sat down. Carol leaned back in her seat and crossed her legs, straightening the hem of her dress. She looked at me, trailing her eyes at my outfit. "You know, you look different," Carol commented.
I looked at her with raised brows, regretting sitting down outside. I scanned the crowd of partygoers once more but, yet again, couldn't find Nancy. "Thanks," I replied. She took a sip of her drink.
I wished Steve would come over and somehow save me, but he was probably preoccupied with other guests. "So, how have you been?" Carol asked. My expression changed to a questionable tone. Never in my life did I think Carol Perkins would be nice to me, let alone tolerable. "I've been good," I replied.
"You must be so happy that school is over. I know I am," Carol said. She paused her sentence to take another long sip of her drink. I glanced behind Carol every once in a while just in case she had been told to talk with me. "Yeah, I am," I nodded. I tried making my responses short to see if she'd get the hint.
Carol went on about herself and where she was going to college. She stated that she wanted to pursue a career in acting and planned to attend a prestigious school in New York. Never did she once ask what I was doing.
It's not like I cared about what she thought, but it's nice when someone asks about your plans. I actually didn't have a solid plan. The plan included me staying in Hawkins to attend a local college. Which didn't seem entirely bad. It meant that I could stay close to my family and friends.
"I just can't believe how much you've changed. I mean, you're not as...." she said.
Her sentence trailed as she tried to think of something to finish it with. She shrugged and shook her drink to see if there was anything left. "Listen, sweetheart," Carol leaned in, "I'm not a 'hint taker,' so you can use that little voice of yours and just speak up."
The smile that inched onto her face was an unfriendly one. I should've known that this conversation would go an entirely different way than it started. I took a long, yet needed, sip of my drink. "Carol, I don't like you. Actually, I never liked you," I spoke, "You're a stuck-up bitch who only cares about herself and nobody else."
She tilted her head, not expecting my remark. "Usually, I'm someone who believes that people can change, but I'm starting to think that you never will," I stood up from the chair, "If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go find my friends because, frankly, I can't stand that stench coming from that thing you call perfume."
It was true. Carol typically wore freakishly strong perfume, to the point where I was convinced plants would shrivel from her 'signature scent.' Carol stood there with her brows raised and an empty beer can in hand. It was a great relief to see Nancy standing there with a few people in my History class Nancy befriended.
Nancy smiled when she saw me walking over to her. Her brows narrowed as she noticed a newfound confidence in me. "What's gotten into you?" she paused, "Oh my god, how many drinks have you had?" I shook my head and threw my can into the trash.
I told Nancy about the conversation with Carol. Nancy's eyes were wide during the explanation. "And she just stood there silently?" Nancy said. I nodded, chuckling. Nancy had her fair share of incidents with Carol. Mostly during her relationship with Steve, but that has since ended.
It did feel weird that I was friends with my former best friend's girlfriend, but Nancy assured me that it didn't matter to her. "How in the hell was Carol invited?" Nancy said. "No clue. I wouldn't be surprised if she just came in without any invitation," I commented, earning a laugh from Nancy.
________
(The Next Day)
The party had been going on for a few hours. Now, it was ten in the morning, and I had somehow gotten a killer headache. I wouldn't drink during parties, but hey, it was senior year after all. Charlie, a girl from my Physics class, laid beside me with her head resting against the top of the couch.
I had no idea where Nancy was. I hoped she hadn't left without me because she was my ride home. I woke up to see the living room and kitchen a mess. I reluctantly sat up from the couch, with Charlie slightly groaning from beside me. I quietly apologized and looked for Steve.
No idea why I was looking for him, but there was a little voice inside my head that urged me to. I saw Nancy curled up on the recliner in the corner of the living area. She scrunched up her face when I tapped her on the knee. "What?" Nancy responded.
Her voice was scratchy. I knew she wasn't one to drink as well. "Hey?" I nudged her again. Nancy's eyes shot open when she recognized it was me that was trying to wake her. She groaned as she sat up in the chair. "We totally slept over, didn't we?" Nancy said. I nodded in reply. She set my hand into hers as I helped her up.
"You can head home. I'm gonna go find Steve," I said. Nancy stared at me, surprised that I claimed I would go find Steve. "I'll be fine. Charlie's here," I said. Nancy looked over my shoulder and shook her head. I followed her line of sight and noticed that Charlie was walking out of the front door.
Now, it was just me and Nancy at Steve's. She patted me on the shoulder. "Help me find my left sneaker. I lost in the middle of that conga line last night," Nancy said, grabbing onto my shoulder for stability.
______
(Later at Steve's House)
Nancy and I never did find her other shoe. So, unfortunately, she had to head home with only one shoe and someone else's jacket. As for me, I was in the middle of cleaning Steve's house. I didn't even want to think about how the backyard looked.
If it was anything like Steve's other parties, it probably looked like shit. It shocked me that I wanted to stay, but I already knew that Steve wouldn't get this done by himself. I had been preparing myself for what to say when he made an appearance this morning.
I set the fifth bag of trash beside the front door. The house looked somewhat better, but still a wreck. I decided it was time to venture upstairs. I cautiously knocked on each door just in case there were still some guests over. When I got to Steve's room, the door was open just a crack.
And there he was. Steve was lying on his bed, the pillows and sheets messed up. His room was the same as it was in Freshmen year. There were a few new posters, but what surprised me more was that Steve had left pictures of us on his dresser. I couldn't stop myself from walking over to the dresser.
A smile appeared on my face when I saw a picture my mom took of us. Since me and Steve both had birthdays in the same month, we had conjoining parties at sometimes. My mom had taken a picture of us on our thirteenth birthday.
We were sitting beside his pool, sharing a piece of cake. It had been my favorite picture of us. My moment was interrupted by Steve moving on the bed. I turned to see him sitting up in his bed. "Hi," I said, slightly staring at him. Steve's eyes found their way to mine.
"Hi?" he replied. His focus was drawn to me, holding up a picture frame. Just then, Steve immediately rushed to the bathroom connected to his room. I don't remember him drinking that much, but I did kinda blank out the rest of the night. So, who knows!
I put the frame back where it was to see if he needed any help. He held up a thumbs up, telling me he was okay. "Steve, you don't look okay," I said. He shook his head and rested his back against the side of the bathtub.
Steve's face was almost pale looking. His eyes weren't red or anything, but he just looked sick. I thought to myself as to what he had served at the party last night. None of it looked different, other than that suspicious-looking chip dip that Carol and Tommy brought.
If I didn't say it, my face sure did. I told Steve I'd be right back. I sifted through the fridge and the trash, soon finding the container of the dip that the couple had brought. I noticed that the dip had expired. "Oh, shit," I muttered.
He hadn't moved since I went downstairs. I carefully grabbed his arm to bring him over to his bed after I remade it. He sunk into the bed, yanking the comforter over his shoulders. "Steve? Did you eat that cheese dip last night?" I crouched beside him. His eyes narrowed. "The one with the green chunks?" he replied.
The only thought that popped into my head was that he had somehow gotten food poisoning from the dip. Good thing I didn't have it. I just hoped Nancy didn't, either. I'll admit, it did kind of look weird last night. "I'll be right back. I just gotta make a call real quick," I said.
Steve nodded his head with his eyes slowly shutting. I bolted down the stairs to the phone in the kitchen. Last Spring, Hazel had gotten food poisoning from some seafood. She had been at home for almost four days because she couldn't do anything. "Hello?" she answered. "Hazel, it's Y/N," I responded.
Hazel stated that our mother left for work this morning. Thankfully, she said that I was staying at a friend's house, which wasn't a lie. "So, I'm in a bit of a situation here," I said. "Okay?" Hazel answered. "I woke up at Steve's house this morning and discovered that he might have food poisoning," I said.
My sister hissed when I told her the news. I remember my mother ranting to Hazel that she has to ask about certain things about food. "What do I do? I don't want to leave Steve by himself because I know he won't do anything," I explained.
She listed a bunch of different medicines I could search for, and just overall to be there for him. Additionally, Hazel made sure to add what foods he could eat. Because, if it wasn't obvious enough, Steve probably had mainly beer and small foods in his stomach.
While getting Steve's food and medicine together, I also cleaned. It took me a little bit to get everything situated. No matter how much I tried to be quiet, Steve still woke up.
I stayed at Steve's house for the whole weekend, staying awake almost every night. He was getting better but still seemed pretty out of it. Hazel stopped by to help me, even offering to stay with him so I could go home. I told her it was okay. Honestly, this gave me a good opportunity to try and talk to Steve.
It is kind of unfortunate that the time I choose to talk to him is when he's high on some medications. Hazel just left Steve's to drop off some new clothes for me and a few different foods. My mind kept going to why I was doing this all for him.
I mean, is it really worth it? He'll probably just forget about it, but the old Steve might've done that, but certainly not him now. I also couldn't help but think if there were other feelings left in my brain.
Steve was absolutely zonked. I was doing what felt like the millionth round of laundry this weekend. I fixed Steve's pillow, noticing that he was about to fall off the bed if he moved over an inch. I went to get up from the bed. His eyes slightly opened when he saw me.
"Hey," Steve said softly, his hand softly grasping my hand. Steve smiled, but it was a tired smile. "Thank you," he kissed my hand, "Thank you, Nancy."
He fell back asleep when he spoke those words. I didn't know what to do. It's not a big deal, though. Is it? I'm not sure why I was even somewhat offended. It's not like had control over that. It took everything within me to not wake him up. I ignored his statement and left his room.
________
(A Few Months Later)
After Steve's graduation party, things were awkward. Well, at least they were on my end. For all I knew, Steve had no idea what he said. All he knew was that I stayed after to help clean, and he was wasted.
I debated on telling Nancy, but I didn't want to complicate things. The thought that often rotated in my head was: the kiss on the hand, was that meant for Nancy or me? It's stupid to even care. I don't have any feelings for him other than friends. Hazel always said that she could see us together.
But I'd deny it every single time she mentioned it. If it wasn't enough torture thinking about that party, I thought it would've been a brilliant idea to work at Scoops Ahoy with Steve. I know, wonderful isn't it?
In all fairness, it was nice being friends with Steve again. It almost seemed like we put everything that happened behind us. Neither one of us mentioned anything. And! I met Robin. Who makes working at an ice cream parlor more fun.
Robin often convinced our manager to put the three of us together because she loved watching me and Steve bicker. "Dude, you can't just do that," I said, scooping some banana ice cream.
"Why? She laughed at my joke," Steve played with the ice cream scoop. "I believe it was a pitty laugh," I said. Steve gasped at my comment. "It was nowhere in the vicinity of a 'pitty laugh,'" Steve said.
He glanced at Robin for help. She put her hands up, saying she wasn't getting in the middle of the argument, but we all knew she loved to be a witness to it. "Then enlighten me, sunshine. What was wrong with my joke?" Steve invited me to explain.
Big mistake, Harrington. I gave the kid the ice cream, and she handed me the change. The parlor wasn't super crowded today, which was nice because it gave my friends and me time to talk.
"First, you said, 'Can I follow you?' Then paused and followed with 'Because my mom told me to follow my dreams,'" I explained, "You can't say that to someone and expect them to go with it. No wonder she left without getting her change."
Yet again, Steve looked back at Robin. Robin was desperately trying to hold back her laughter, and so was I. "It wasn't that bad," Steve said. "Steve, it was borderline bad," Robin spoke. Steve through his arms up in the air. She put a line on the 'you suck' part of the whiteboard. I laughed.
Steve turned to me with his brows raised, mad at my reaction. "Dude, c'mon, you're asking for it at this point," I said. Steve rolled his eyes and flipped the scoop back into the pocket of his apron. "Fine, then what's a good example of a pickup line?" he questioned.
I sighed and closed the lid where all the ice cream was. Steve watched me as I thought of a pickup line. "Steve, I don't think any pickup line in the world could top the one that you just said," Robin said, "In fact, I don't even think that there is a good pick-up line."
Steve groaned and leaned against the counter with his arms crossed. "Why can't you just talk to girls like a normal person?" I asked. "Cause he's not a normal person," Robin set the board beside her and joined us at the counter.
(Third Person View)
Unlike what Y/N thought, Steve knew exactly what happened. He himself couldn't even fathom what he did. Y/N had written what happened in her journal and later crumpled up the paper, throwing it in the trash. She needed to tell someone but decided to write it down instead.
Naturally, like older sisters do, Hazel noticed the paper in the trash. After reading the words carefully, she realized what happened. Hazel kept it to herself up until it slipped out during prep for a DND meeting with Dustin, which soon led to Steve finding out.
You'd think everything would've stayed hidden, but in Hazel's defense, she wasn't even planning on telling anyone. And as for Steve, he felt terrible. He was good at hiding it because Y/N had no idea. He knew that he needed to tell Y/N and apologize for being such a jerk.
He didn't even know why it was so hard to tell her. Maybe it was because he truly cared about her, or maybe because he saw her in a different light. Steve clearly remembers the conversation with Dustin:
[Two Months After The Party]
"Are you stupid, or are you dumb?" Dustin said, standing in front of Steve. Steve stood behind the kitchen counter as the Henderson boy sat at the table. "I can't believe you said that," Dustin continued his rant. "Hey, you try being high on drugs," Steve pointed at Dustin with a butter knife.
Dustin disregarded the older boy's reaction. He stood up from the table and walked over to the counter. "That doesn't matter. Did you not think that it was Y/N at all?" Dustin said. Steve sighed and set the knife on the plate. He ran a hand under the sink, wiping his hands on a towel. "Dustin, I don't even know why I did it, okay? I was barely unconscious, and my vision was blurry and all that shit that comes with food poisoning," Steve said.
He waved his arms around as he spoke. Dustin thought to himself, mainly thinking that Steve had a point. "Next time you get some information like that, don't go blabbing it to everyone," Steve went back to making his sandwich. Dustin looked up at him. "I didn't 'blab' it everyone. Hazel told me accidentally, then I told you," Dustin answered. Steve rolled his eyes again.
______
(Later - Y/N's Point of View)
Since restarting our friendship, Steve and I started hanging out again. Which included our weekly movie or game nights and hanging out at Starcourt. Right now, we were in the middle of watching one of my favorite movies since it was my turn to choose.
The two of us were on good terms and eventually figured that our long break of friendship was needed. We gathered our favorite snacks and settled in the living room. The movie was only halfway through when Steve decided to speak up. "Hey, Y/N, can I talk to you about something?" he asked.
"Steve, we're in the middle of a movie," I said, gesturing to the television. His brows rose. Steve looked at me, then back to the movie. "How many times have you seen this movie?" he said. I shrugged in reply. "Like five million times," Steve answered, "I think you'll be fine not watching Sixteen Candles for a split second."
He gestured to the television once more before sitting up straight. "C'mon, Samantha was just about to have the moment with Jack," I said, my shoulders dropping. Steve didn't look like he was amused one bit. I sighed and grabbed the remote to pause the movie. "What is it?" I inquired.
He took the blanket off, draping it over the back of the couch. Steve turned so he was facing me. "You remember the grad party in May?" Steve asked. I nodded, motioning for him to get on with it. It was typical for Steve to try and stall as if he was thinking about what to say.
"And you were being your sweet self and cleaned up my house for me," he said. "I had to clean with a killer headache," I said. He chuckled at my response, sighing. "Well," Steve said, "I've been told that that's not entirely true." Now, I really wish I had put up a bigger fight to not pause the movie.
Steve watched me think to myself before finishing his speech. "I was told that..." he said. "That you said Nancy's name when I was helping you," I finished, not bothering to ask how my sister found out. During our conversation, his brown eyes were focused on the carpet.
His eyes wandered away from the ground and up to me. "Why didn't you tell me? Or, ask me if I remembered?" he questioned. I sighed, shrugging yet again. "Because I was afraid. I'm not really sure why because you are the least intimidating person that I know," I said, earning a soft chuckle from Steve.
"Part of me thought that you didn't want to talk to me because I practically ditched you," I said, "And, again, I don't even know why I even bothered to stay to help you, but some little part of me knew that I should. I knew that if I left, you'd never take care of yourself. And it hurt me to think that you'd be home alone feeling like shit."
Steve's face softened at my long statement. He smiled slightly. "Y/N," Steve said. He took my hand into his, resting my hand on his knee. He stared at our hands and then up to me. "I'm sorry that I said Nancy's name. I was completely out of it, and when I heard what I did. I felt terrible because I had grown to like you more than we were little," Steve said.
Now, he had caught my attention. I was a little taken aback, questioning what I heard. "I've grown to like you more than just friends. That's probably a little weird because we've started hanging out again, but you're still the same Y/N that I've known since forever," he paused, "And I'm the same Steve. Well, a new and improved Steve."
His smile grew at the sight of mine. Steve kissed me on the top of my head, leaning his forehead against mine. I smiled as his lips lingered before leaning back, our faces still close.
"I do have one question," I said, "How exactly did you find out? Because I didn't tell anyone." He put the blanket back onto the two of us. Steve grabbed the remote, chuckled (GIF Above), and stated, "I think we should go back to the movie."

Upside Down Feelings
Chapter One: The Vanishing of Will Byres
Tumblr media
an episode-by-episode stranger things fic that incorporates the reader into the series
summary: Y/N Henderson is your typical high school girl with typical problems; falling out with her best friend, an annoying little brother, and a chronically unpopular standing in school. Little did she know that after the disappearance of Will Byres, her world would be flipped upside down
pairing: Steve Harrington x Reader (slow burn)
word count: 3400
tw: none besides the fact that this is unedited :)
“You’re such an asshole!” Dustin shouted as you laughed.
“Dusty! Language!” Your mother gasped, peaking . “Y/N, doing whatever you’re doing stop!”
“You heard her! Stop,” Dustin smirked.
“I’m not doing anything-“
“Give it back!” His smile dropped into a scowl, jumping up to try to reach your raised arm. “I’m late for the D&D campaign.”
“Just reach up and grab it,” You raised a brow. You loved annoying your little brother. Partially because he was just an adorable little kid but mostly because he loved to annoy you just as much. But you both knew if anyone were to so much as look at him the wrong way in front of you, you wouldn’t hesitate to break their nose.
His eyes quickly darted behind you, making you turn around to see absolutely nothing out of the ordinary behind you.
“Y/N, don’t make me use the power of the D&D league against you,” He warned. “We might be small but we’re mighty.”
“First of all, wow. I’m so scared of a bunch of 9 year olds-“
“We’re 12.”
“Whatever. And what’s the big deal anyway? It’s just a damn doll,” You smirked, making him gasp dramatically as he placed a hand on his hip.
“That is not a doll,” He spoke with offense, using his free hand to point at you as continued. “That is a limited edition action figure that can’t be touched because your nasty human hand oils will ruin the paint- You know what? Whatever. I tried to warn you. GET HER!”
“I- What? Who are you talking to- OW! FUCK!” You heard his group of friends scream before they all attacked, two knocking you on the couch as another one grabbed the doll.
“Y/F/N! Language!” Your mother called.
The boys cheered before all running off into the front yard. You looked through the window and smiled at their cheers as your brother held up the action figure victoriously. “Why do you give him such a hard time?”
“Because I’m his big sister. It’s part of the job description,” You shrugged, walking into the kitchen and placing a quick kiss on the top of her head as you made a bee line towards the fridge. “Can I go out tonight?”
“Where to?” She asked, looking over to see you chuckling. “Why do I even bother asking at this point? Yes, you can go out with Robin. What ever happened to Nancy? I thought she was your best friend.”
“Key word: was,” You sighed, hopping on the counter and watching your mom cook. You opened the bottle of soda and took a long swig before you continued. “Ever since she got with The Hair, she hasn’t really talked to me as much. I guess she’s just too cool for me now..”
“Well, if it helps any, you’re the coolest girl in my book,” She smiled over at you, placing a maternal hand on your cheek as she watched you smile. “And the prettiest! And the funniest! And, most importantly, you have the biggest heart I’ve ever seen. If Nancy can’t see that, then I don’t think that makes her very cool. I like Robin way more than I ever liked her.”
“Aw, shucks!” Robin chimed in. You’d given her a key about a month ago and she used it generously. “You’re making me blush, Mrs. Henderson! Ooh, it smells good in here. Whatcha makin’?
Robin smiled as she hopped onto the counter beside you and laid her head on your shoulder.
“Chicken Parm,” Your mom grinned. “Wanna stay for dinner?”
“We’d love to, Mom but-“
“No buts! The movie can wait. Let’s eat!” Robin interrupted.
———
“Could you ride your bike out to the Wheeler’s and tell your brother it’s time to come home? It’s getting late for a school night,” Your mom asked. “I called and Mrs. Wheeler says that they refuse to wrap up their game.”
You groaned and pouted.
“But Nancy-“
“You aren’t there for Nancy. You’re there for Dusty. Now go,” She ordered in a firm tone.
You huffed and did as told. You wished Robin hadn’t left about an hour ago so she could make this trip a little more bearable. Seeing Nancy wasn’t exactly at the top of the list of things you wanted to do tonight. Or ever, for that matter.
The truth was that the two of you had a falling out. It wasn’t rare for the two of you to argue, considering you’ve known one another since you were children. But this argument held a lot more weight to it than your previous disputes. The type of weight that settled into your mind as you fell asleep and made you drag your feet to school, knowing she would be there. She tried to apologize twice for her words but she knew how deep they’d cut you. She knew that even you had your limits and she was way out of line. Now when you passed each other in the hallways, you’d both blush, shoot a feigned smile and walk a little quicker to avoid any type of conversation.
God, if you’re real, You thought before you rang the doorbell, holding your breath to see who would answer. Nancy won’t be the one to-
“Y/N?” Nancy furrowed her brows as she opened the front door of her house.
Okay, God. You’re either not real or a dick. Noted.
“What are you doing here?” She asked. The small glimmer of hope in her eyes crushed you. All you wanted to do was hug her and tell her that you missed your late night giggle fits and little study dates. But the weight of the argument prevented you from doing so.
“I, uh.. My mom sent me to come get Dustin,” You didn’t even recognize your own voice; weak and apathetic. “She said your mom has been trying to clear them out of the basement and they won’t leave so I’m here to-“
“Y/N! Sweetheart!” Mrs. Wheeler called from behind her daughter. Nancy’s eyes quickly shot to her feet. “I haven’t seen you around in a while! How’ve you been? How’s your mom?”
“Good and good,” You smiled, hoping the tension wouldn’t be too evident. You let out a small breath of relief when the woman giggled.
“Thank the Lord that you’re here! They won’t listen to me. I know they’ll listen to you!”
An awkward silence fell upon the three of you. You nodded and shot her another tight lipped smile.
Oh, now it was evident.
“I’m sorry, I can’t help but feel that I just interrupted something?” She asked.
“Nope!”
“No!”
“Uh-huh..” The woman said slowly, looking at the two pathetic girls who looked down at their feet. “They’re in the basement.”
You nodded and made a quick bee line to the basement door. You didn’t even bother knocking- no time, you simply ran downstairs and watched them gasp. You couldn’t get out of this house fast enough. Every single inch of this house held the memories of you and your best friend.
You clenched your eyes at the force of habit. Ex best friend.
“Y/N? What are you-“ Your brother began, snapping you out of your thoughts.
“When someone asks you to go home, Dustin, you go home,” You said sternly. “It’s late. And Mrs. Wheeler has been kind enough to let you stay here and play this game all day. The least you could do is show some respect and leave at a reasonable hour. Especially on a school night, dipshit. Come on. We’re leaving.”
“But we’re in the middle of a game!” Mike whined.
“You heard her,” Nancy spoke from behind you. “Clean up. It’s time for your friends to go home.”
The boys all simply looked at the two of you with wide eyes.
“Now!” You both shouted, causing them to chaotically clean up and do as told. You grabbed Dustin by the shoulder, taking him upstairs to apologize to the Wheelers before you met the other kids outside.
“You and Nancy used to be cool!” Dustin huffed. “What happened to you guys?”
“We grew up,” You said simply, not revealing the fact that you wondered the same thing every night. “Let’s go.”
“Y/N!” Nancy called as she ran out to catch you before you got on your bike. The boys already began cycling home, leaving the two of you alone. “Hey, I know things are.. The way they are between us. And I’m sorry about that. But there’s a party on Tuesday night at Steve’s and I was wondering if… maybe you wanted to come?”
“Uh,” You smiled. “On a school night? I don’t know, Nance.”
“That was my first reaction too. Come on!” She giggled. “Barb said she’ll go if you do. And I think you might a lot of fun-“
“Ah,” Your smile faded. “You want me there so Barb will go.”
“No! No, I didn’t mean it like that at all. I want you there for me not because I want Barb to-“
“Nancy,” You interrupted softly. “I appreciate the invite. I do. Thank you. I just..”
“Yeah,” She nodded, looking away to hide the tears in her eyes. “No, yeah. I get it. It’s okay. It’s a school night anyways so..”
“Right,” You nodded. “I hope you have fun though.”
You slung your leg over your bike and began to walk it towards the street before something stopped you. Maybe it was the familiar house with the familiar girl who stood with the familiar sad face that you always seemed to cause as of recently. Maybe it was the fact that you just missed your best friend, regardless of how damn mean she could be at times.
“Hey, Nancy?” You called.
“Yeah?” She looked up.
“I don’t know.. Maybe you could, like.. Call me if anything crazy happens at the party.”
“I can call you?” She asked a little too quickly with those wide eyes of hers, making you laugh. She smiled. “Sorry. I got excited.”
“I see that,” You teased. Oh, how she missed being teased by you. “I should get going. But, uh.. Feel free to call me afterwards, okay? I’ll be up late studying anyway so it really doesn’t matter what time you do.”
She nodded, trying to hide her grin. In her world, everything seemed to finally be falling into place now that you were speaking to her again. She missed telling you things about school and about the things she did with Steve. She missed your study dates because no one matched her intellectually the way you did. She missed your quick witted comments, and she missed the fact that you both cheered each other on in life. She missed you. All of you, even the bad parts that she couldn’t stand at times. Because at the end of the day, you were like a sister to her. And sister fight all the time, right?
“Dustin! Wait up!” You called, watching as he and Will took of racing towards your house. You laughed and accepted the challenge, peddling as fast as you could to catch up with them.
“I’ll take your X-Men 134!” Will called as he sped past your house. You hit the breaks and swerved your bike, avoiding Dustin who halted to a stop.
“Son of a bitch,” He muttered.
“Tell him I stole it and to pick another one,” You offered, slightly out of breath. “I know how much you like that one so put the blame on me.”
“You’re in a good mood,” Dustin chuckled. “Did your girlfriend finally talk to you?”
“Other way around, doofus,” You rolled your eyes, hopping off of your bike to walk it into the garage. “And she’s not my girlfriend.”
“What happened between you guys anyway?” He asked, doing the same.
He’d never look at her in the same way if he knew.
“A boy,” You lied. More like the bad of an influence he is and the fact that he is morphing her into someone she’s not. At least, that’s what led to the falling out.
“Ew, don’t tell me you have a thing for Steve too!” Dustin gagged, kicking the stand out on his bike and closing the garage. You followed him inside.
“Gross,” You scrunched your nose. “Mark my words, Dustin; I will never see that boy as anything more than what he is. Trash.”
“At least we’re on the same page about something tonight,” He nodded, walking to the kitchen. “What’d mom make?”
“Chicken Parm,” You responded, already grabbing some plates. As he opened the fridge, the lights flickered and he yelped. “Oooh, maybe it’s the monster from your game.”
“That’s not funny,” He snapped. “If that were true, we’re all dead.”
“Okay, I’m sorry,” You smiled. “I’m sure there’s just a nearby storm. Totally not a monster. The lights would flicker again if it was a monster.”
The lights switched off for a moment and next thing you knew, you heard your brother scream and lunge into you. He wrapped his arms around you and held on tight. When the lights turned back on, you looked down to see him clenching his eyes shut as his legs shook.
Great, now he’s gonna ask to sleep in your room.
“Can I sleep in your-“
“Yes,” You groaned, peeling him off of you. “But you’re sleeping on the floor.”
“THE FLOOR?!” He yelped.
“Yes, the floor. You kick in your sleep,” You rolled your eyes. “And I have a quiz tomorrow.”
“But-“
“You need to stop playing that damn game, dude. You’re always like this when the lights flicker.”
“But the floor is worse than sleeping alone in my room and I-“
“No! You’re sleeping on the floor. Take it or leave it.”
“Please, I-“
“Dustin!” You shouted.
“Fine!” He shouted back, taking an angry bite out of his food. “Gross, I forgot to put it in the microwave.”
You both giggled before finishing up in the kitchen and getting dressed for bed. Halfway through the night, you felt him try to crawl into your full size bed.
“Dustin. Floor.”
“Fine..”
———
“Waffles!” Dustin grinned, all but running to the table. “Pass the syrup, please.”
You mindlessly did as told as you flipped through a guitar magazine. The phone rang and your mother answered, her voice dropped for a moment before she turned around to face you.
“Did you guys ride home with Will?” Your mother asked with the phone pressed to her ear. “Joyce said that Mrs. Wheeler told her that you all left together.”
“We raced to the house and then he went home, why?” Dustin asked. Your mother blinked before repeating what he said into the phone.
“It’s probably nothing,” Your mother smiled after she hung up the phone but you didn’t miss the way her hand trembled as she brought the cup of coffee to her lips.
———
“Nice shoes,” Carol snorted as she approached you. You didn’t need to look down to see that you’d chosen your old, ratted up converse.
“Nice face,” You rebutted without missing a beat as you bumped into her shoulder. “Your nose looks different this year. Did your daddy buy that for you too?”
“At least she has a dad,” Tommy smirked, making Carol throw her head back in laughter. Your lips parted, taken aback from the statement. “What’s the matter, Henderson? Cat got your tongue?”
You quickly composed yourself, readjusting your backpack and chuckling.
“I’d rather have a dead dad than a dead beat one,” You shrugged, turning on your heels.
“What did you just say to me? Hey! Don’t walk away from me when I talk to you,” Tommy asked, grabbing your shoulder. Hard. He pushed you into the lockers with the same force, causing your head hit a handle, making you wince and curse under your breath. “You wanna say that again, loser?”
“Hey, what the fuck, dude? She’s a girl!” Steve furrowed his brows and pushed Tommy off of you, but the boy kept his eyes on you. If looks could kill. Steve looked back at you with concern. “You alright?”
“Never better,” You groaned, bringing your hand up to your head and bringing it back down to see a bit of blood. Steve’s eyes widened as he looked back up at you. “Don’t worry, Harrington. I won’t tell Nancy.”
“What?” He blinked, searching your face for any sign of . “No. I-I didn’t.. I wasn’t trying to imply-“
“Excuse me,” You interrupted before walking away, quickly making a bee line to the bathroom to get some paper towels for your head. Luckily, it was a small cut. Though it wasn’t gushing or running, the blood still pooled at the wound. It’d only take a few minutes to stop. The throbbing of the forming bruise, however, was a different story. “Fucking assholes.”
“Who?” Robin asked as she walked in. “Woah! Dude, I don’t know if you know this but your head is bleeding!”
You chuckled dryly before grabbing the mess of paper towels and putting them in the trash. Her gaze never left your face as she leaned against the wall.
“Let me guess-“
“Don’t. I don’t wanna talk about it,” You shook your head, desperate for a subject change. “Did you hear about Will Byers?”
“Yeah,” She exhaled as she responded. “Poor Jonathan.”
“Yeah,” You nodded. You couldn’t even fathom the possibility that it could’ve just as easily been your brother. “Poor Jonathan indeed.”
“Here, you’re still bleeding a bit. I know you don’t wanna talk about it, but at the very least, let me hold some pressure on it,” Robin grabbed a handful of paper towels and made you lean against the sink. She stood by your side and gently but firmly pressed, watching as you sucked in a breath before easing into her touch. “You were saying? Something about Jonathan.”
“I don’t know how he’s keeping his cool. I’d be devastated if it was Dustin.. Shit, I’m a little devastated even with Will. I mean I watched that kid grow up… One time, he convinced me, Jonathan and Nancy to dress up for their stupid game and it’s still one of my favorite memories. We all ended up on the floor laughing and grabbing at our stomachs from the force.”
“Shit,” Robin raised her brows, handing you a hat from her bag. “He’s the quiet one, right?”
“He’s shy, not quiet,” The smile from your story lingered as you put it on. “He’s a good kid. I just wish there was-“
“Steve!” You both heard a voice giggle. It was followed by sloppy footsteps and kissing noises. Robin shot you a look of disgust as Steve and Nancy stumbled in, in one of those teenage hormone sparked make out sessions. Gross. “We could get in trouble! Someone might see us!”
“Consider yourselves seen,” Your friend smirked, making them jump. They looked over as she tossed the towel in the trash. There was barely enough blood to see but you could tell they’d noticed. Steve almost winced at the fact that he knew what the hat was for, covering the evidence. “We were just on the way out. As you were, sir.”
You both grabbed your bags before making your exit. Nancy blushed furiously as Steve looked back at her.
“You think they’re good at keeping secrets?” He asked.
“Trust me,” She smiled before pulling him in again. “They’re the best.”
———
“And then we told him about the road!” Dustin ranted about his interaction with Hopper. You and your mother listened intently as you finished the dinner Dustin has yet to touch. “So can I go tonight? Search for him?”
“No,” She responded. He looked at you for help. You pursed your lips and shrugged. As much as you wanted to take his side, you’d rather see him upset than missing. He huffed, pushing away his plate and marching to his room. Your mother sighed and sat back. “My poor, sweet boy..”
“I’ll talk to him,” You muttered. You got up and walked down the hallway, knocking lightly at his door.
“Go away.”
“Dusty,” You leaned your forehead on his door. “It’s me. Let me in.”
You heard him hesitate before his mattress creeped and footsteps approached. The door unlocked and opened to reveal your teary eyed little brother.
“I’m going. Lucas and Mike and I will stick together. I took your pepper spray for protection,” He admitted as he held up your keychain. You laughed. “If you love me, you’ll cover for me and say I went to sleep early.”
You sighed, looking at him with concern.
“What kind of big sister would I be if I let that happen?” You shook your head.
“The type that doesn’t want Mom knowing you lost your virginity already,” He threatened, making your face drop. You widened you eyes before pushing him into his room and closing his door. “I’ll tell her if you don’t let me go!”
“SHH! Keep your voice down, asshole! Where did you even hear about that?” You whisper yelled.
“I overheard you talking to Robin,” He whispered.
“So instead of asking nicely to go you fucking blackmail me?!” You scoffed. “I came in here to cheer you up and all of the sudden I’m under attack? And I find out that you know about.. Ew!”
“You’re the one who taught me how to blackmail in the first place!” He argued. His face has never seemed as punchable as it did in that very moment. He saw your glare, the daggers it sent his way, and took a step back physically but continued to threaten you. “I’m going whether you cooperate or not. So we can do this the easy way or the hard way.”
“I fucking hate you, you know that?” You hissed, turning on your heels and going to your room. He stood in a silent guilt, hating that the person he looked up to the most just said that to him. Dustin drew in a shaky breath and sat on his bed for a moment before his door opened again. He looked up and saw you hand him a backpack. He furrowed his brows in confusion. “There are three pocket knives and three flashlights- one for each one of you. It’s going to rain so take your raincoat. If you don’t come back by midnight, I’ll tell mom about that gross comic book you have that is filled to the brim with cartoon tits. If you don’t come back ever, I’ll never recover. If you see or hear or feel something that’s not right, you turn around and come home. You got it?”
He grinned and nodded, running into your arms to hug you. You quickly pushed him off and lowered yourself to his eye level.
“I still hate you,” You clarified. He just laughed as you pulled him in for another hug. “Be careful. I’ll let her know you cried yourself to sleep.”
“I owe you!” He jumped out of your arms and opened his window. “Big time.”
“Oh, I know. And I intend to cash in on that. Big time.” You responded. His face scrunched in concern, almost as if he was reconsidering his whole plan, before he jumped out. You sighed, and walked back to the kitchen.
“How is he?” Your mom sat up as she saw you.
“He just needs some time to cool down. I’ll check on him in a few hours to make sure he’s still okay,” You smiled, knowing that answer perfectly satisfied your mother.
Was this your best moment; allowing your kid brother to go out alone with his kid friends in search of a missing boy? No. But you knew him. He needed this. Maybe this would be a funny story in a few years, but you spent the whole night studying in his room, waiting for him to come back. When the window finally creeped open to reveal his silhouette, you about passed out from relief.
Something told you that this boy was going to grow up to be nothing but trouble.

SFW and NSFW headcanons for the ST boys I write for lol
I want! To do one of these for everyone I write for but this is fresh on my mind so it's first lol. Eddie, Billy, and Steve are included. I wanted to post this before some of my asks so you know what you're getting lol. Anyway! CW: Feminization, trauma mention, nightmares, scars, and season 3 spoilers, cockwarming, crying, panty stealing, exhibitionism sort of, billy's mommy issues, more crying, let men bottom. Written with top!reader in mind, mostly gender-neutral but AFAB based (I write what I know) if there's more Please let me know.
Steve Harrington SFW
He hates being alone in that big house, so hes either holding you hostage or he’s always at yours.
Says he HATES spending time with the kids but is the first to defend them in any situation, even if You have something negative to say about them.
I think the whole ‘six nuggets’ speech was WAY out of character but like, I think Steve deserves ONE baby as a treat. Or maybe he’s the honorary uncle to one of Nancy’s kids lol. He’d be a sick ass uncle.
He Does in fact love PDA, he’s a touchy feely guy (post season one, at least Genuinely)
His love language is physical touch(receiving) and gift giving(giving). HIs parents were always trying to ‘make up’ for not being there with gifts (the BMW was from the Florence trip, two whole months by himself with little to no contact.)
He really likes movie dates, be it renting a tape and staying at his or yours OR going out and catching one at the theater. He got weirdly into film after working at Family Video.
His favorite candy is anything banana flavored (laffy taffy is the top spot).
He likes pepsi over coke and Is pretentious about it.
I ama  firm believer that he has a full skin/hair/night/morning routine that he is ADAMANT about. HE has a toiletry bag bigger than his overnight bag that he carries his “essentials” in if he stays over at yours/Eddie’s.
Speaking of Eddie they got weirdly close after the whole Vecna thing so if you’re dating Steve congrats you have a a new bestie :) Eddie will offer you joints you do Not have to accept.
Steve is a fan of thicker people I’m sorry I dont make the rules. They all are but Speficially Steve and Billy lol.
He gets really bad nightmares about the demogorgons sometimes, sleeps with the bat next to him most nights. “Just in case, babe. Can’t be too careful.”
Was a bug kid, and WAS friends with Eddie in elementary school I will die on this hill. They used to make bug palaces on the playground someone please ask e about this for the love of fuc-
HIs favorite book is The Outsiders :) He doesn’t and didn’t read a lot but that is one of the few books that can grab his attention and keep it. Got very excited when the movie came out and it is one of his favorites :)
First guy crush was Rob Lowe he “Just thought he was badass.” uhhh okay Stevie we get it.
Boyfriend Material to a fucking T. You need someone to help grocery shop? He’s there. Help move furniture? He’s there? Sad? He’s there and he’s making stupid jokes and calling you pretty and kissing your eyelids.
He lets you wear his clothes and encourages it. Will have a fashion show with your clothes to make you feel better about it if you’re insecure.
NSFW
Firmly believe there isn’t a mean bone in this mans body. He couldn’t bully you into submission if he wanted to he’d feel too bad.
He’s a simp to the bone. All you have to do is put on the puppy eyes and the “Please Stevie?” And he melts.
I’d call him the pussy eating king but Eddie Munson holds that title so Steve is the Pussy Eating Prince?
I don’t think he’s a dom by any means, but I DO think he’d be a service top.
“Baby cum for me please? Wanna feel it. Need to see you cum, look so pretty when you do.” and “So fuckin’ tight, so wet and pretty and perfect. Doin’ so good for me.”
Praise!! Kink!!! Both giving and receiving! Pull on his hair and call him a good boy and he’ll whimper so pretty.
Big Dick. I don’t remember where I read the headcanon that Steve has a huge dick but i fuckin ran with it so now he does :). Its pretty too.
He likes slow and sleepy sex over anything else. The sex where you guys are like, trying to fuck but end up just cuddling and kinda grinding against eachother? *chef’s kiss*
Big fan of cockwarming :) sometimes he’s just so needy and you’re busy with work stuff, or college stuff or you’re just reading and he’s all
“Can I please just put it in? Don’t even have to move, jus’ wanna be close baby.”
He’s shit at dirty talk but he tries okay?
“Steve we talked about the shitty porn dialouge baby.” “Yeah, yeah sorry.”
BIg fan of giggling during sex? He just thinks you’re so pretty and he gets these big goofy smiles that are all teeth and yeah.
When he cums he’s loud as fuck. He’s vocal in general but he gets LOUD when he’s close. He whines and whimpers and huffs out these little moans. HIs tummy gets all tense and his hips jerk and he’s trying so hard not to cry out and beg.
“Gun’ cum baby, please? Guna’cum for’ya please.”
Tears up if its really good or if you edged him lol.
All in All a nice guy to fuck and Date i wont him.
Eddie Munson SFW :)
Will make you a mixtape way before you start dating and if you listen hard enough that was his original confession.
He likes to make NPC's in his campaigns based off of you :) whether they be random passerby or main baddies.
Doesnt matter what shape, size, gender, ethnicity, race anything. If Eddie falls for you? He's All In. He loves HARD and he doesnt give a shit about consequences.
His queer awakening was Slash lol
Probably autistic, but its the 80's and its rural Indiana so. No Outlet for that.
His best friend is 100% Dustin they hang out regularly. He's trying (slowly hut surely) to teach Dustin some guitar stuff.
Eddies idea of a date is driving out to empty fields in the van with some burgers and a joint or two and stargazing. He knows a lot about astrology and definitely shows off his knowledge.
He's a cuddle bug. Leeches your warmth in the winter and sticks to your sweaty skin during the summer. If he's not sleeping flush against you hes whiney as fuck.
He likes to wrap his arms around you from the back when you guys are just standin' places. He's a lil lanky so he just kinda curls himself around you, no matter if you're taller or shorter than him.
he likes to call you "your majesty" a lot, and not in a condescending way.
"you're royalty babydoll, should be treated that way" hands you a rock he thought you'd like.
hes very much the 'crow friend' if you've seen those tiktoks?
keeps a box of shiny stuff, fancy rocks, funky sticks, jars, and weird shit he found that he likes to show you sometimes and give you if he thinks you'll like it.
very sensitive to rejection, has attachment issues.
his parents left when they realized he was getting caught too often doing illegal shit for them so they dipped and he took it to heart.
still convinced Wayne thinks he's a burden
please kiss his cheeks and play with his hair and call him pretty he blushes so nice.
he gets freckles during the summer and a REALLY nice tan if hes out enough.
never learned how to swim correctly, is self taught.
used to chew on his hair and still does if he's Very upset or close to a meltdown.

He’s a fuckin perv. Steals your undies and has a stash of them for ‘safe keeping’. Porn mags out the ass. Normal ole teenage boy stuff lol.
he'd let you use his dick as a stim toy /hj
Billy Hargrove SFW
Boy is an ASSHOLE okay? lives to bully and tease you at first (and even after you're dating but then its affectionate)
He has a lot of resentment towards positive female/female presenting roles in his life because of his mom i think? and he REALLY has to work on that shit, and if you have the heart to help him with that you're a saint.
I think the best approach would be to help him from outside. Let him do some introspective shit and just kinda. Guide him.
Okay so he knows hes a dick, hes trying to get better this is prime, please ask HIM out time.
He will get so incredibly flustered if you ask him out on a date or something he wont know what to do.
Hes used to being the flashy one. The Stud. the Untouchable. A Lot of internalzed homophobia in this bad boy. Toxic Masculinity ftw
After the Mindflayer he is a Lot different and i really want to write my specific headcanons and ideas on how he survived/what happened after lol
Hes more subdued, he's quiter, he doesnt lash out as much. He's still, ragey, obviously but its toned down a lot.
He's not quite as outgoing either, which Max helps a lot with. They get close.
You and him get closer too.
I think you guys start as FWB and escalate from there because what ELSE would happen with Billy Hargrove.
Uhhh he secretly likes rom coms sorry not sorry.
He LOVES sixteen candles its one of his favorites.
his queer awakening was :) tom cruise in top gun, that basic bitch.
he likes when you call him baby/baby boy a LOT.
he gets FRECKLED in the summer. He tans so pretty and he gets a nice little flush/sunburn on his cheeks and ears that makes him glow. He really thrives in the summer.
City Boy. Has never seen a cow irl until Hawkins and is terrified of them, please show him they are gentle giants.
He likes to go to drive ins (and make out) for dates before the mindflayer. He still likes to do that AFTER the mindflayer but hes much more a homebody now so he really likes napping together.
calls you bitch but affectionately.
is an AVID reader actually? i love the headcanon that Billy is Wicked smart so i like to think he reads alot.
he likes period romances (jane austen is his GIRL)
he thinks cooking together is the height of domesticity and at first it freaked him tf out how much he liked doing it with you. now he eases into so quickly its a little funny.
feral mountain lion turned a little less feral house cat energy.
likes when you call him Bills :)
Likes to walk with his hand in your back pocket and yours in his.
NSFW
So at first, he's hyper-dominant. Won't let you even Ride him. He's in his head about it 100% he doesnt want you to think he's weak. Men dont take it like that.
He soon learns you VERY much like it when he's crying for you
Hes a power bottom i wont take arguments.
He's also a fuckin BRAT. Needs you to put him in his place but Gently. Needs a firm hand but do Not raise your voice at him or he shuts down.
It takes a while before he trusts you enough to let you see this side of him and you need to respect that. He will come to you when he's ready.
He knows hes pretty and he uses it against you. Flutters his eyelashes and smiles all pretty and puffs his chest out. Lays himself out to make himself real pretty.
Praise tf out of him please he'll cry.
"Oh pretty baby, you're doin' so good :) such a perfect boy for me. feel so good in me handsome." He's tearing up and nodding so hard.
"Yeah. Yeah m'good. M'good boy. Doin' good." Under his breath with his eyes squeezed shut, white knuckling the sheets.
Needs a lot of reassurance that you're feeling good. He spent a lot of time not really giving a shit if the girls he was with got off so with you? He's constantly. "Is that right? That feel good? Want more?" He wants to be perfect for you.
Sometimes, after the nightmares are getting worse and he's so sleep-deprived he's cross eyed and he can't really think he needs you to take him apart and he goes so willingly.
He gets whimpery and almost immediately oversensitive. Like his cock is a livewire. His fingers and lips tremble and he's trying so hard to keep his eyes on you, to be a good boy. He goes pliant and soft and gets this silly little smile on his face. Eyes hazy and wet. He hums and nods and lets you do whatever. He knows he's safe.
The scars ARE sensitive lol you heard it here folks.
He doesnt fuck you with the lights on or fully naked for almost a year after he's fully healed.
He rubs vitamin E oil and scar softner into the skin where he was attacked twice a day, every day, for a year before you get to see them.
He breaks down when you call them pretty :)
And you BETTER think he's still handsome or i'll find you istg /hj
Uhh, this may be a personal want of mine or a real headcanon but I think he would like to try makeup? Like a full glam rock, smokey eye red lip whole shebang.
Fuck him so good his mascara runs.
Prolly has a mommy kink but i’m not brave enough to write that (unless…)/hj

I think people exaggerate Steve harrington’s character growth. He wasn’t that much of a douche to begin with, so his growth isn’t as impressive as people make it out to be. Not to say he didn’t have any, he definitely did, but I see people exaggerate it. He’s not a bully turned sweetheart….he was a kinda crappy dude turned sweetheart.
In fact I’m sorta confused as to what the writers want us to feel about Steve destroying Jonathan’s camera. It’s acknowledged somewhat that what Jonathan did was wrong and weird (him taking photos of them) several times throughout, yet we’re supposed to see Steve destroying the camera as some big bully moment lmao. Sure I was just….NOT really feelin him during that scene (he just gave off Jason vibes during it), but shit I too would break someone’s camera if they secretly took pics of me. fuck them.

Cingulomania
Tumblr media
Full Masterlist | Stranger Things Masterlist
A/N: I saw this tiktok about 'Cingulomania' and thought it would be a great imagine! I struggled with picking a character, but this one fits since I'm back in my Steve Harrington era, although I've always been in my Steve Harrington era.
Summary: Like most college students, relationships were crucial to having a good time. That was until you decided that dating was getting tiring. You had been on so many bad dates, but none of them seemed to work out like you hoped. It wasn't until one shift at Family Video did you realize what was going on. You were focused on being in someone else's arms rather than the random dates'.
Notes:
Y/N/N: Your Nick Name
Y/F/M: Your Favorite Meal
Cingulomania - the desire to be in someone else's arms.
Takes place in season four (no spoilers)
Warnings:
Long imagine
Steve Harrington x-reader
I handed a woman a copy of The Breakfast Club. She smiled at me and took the bag from the counter. The bell of the door rang when she exited, and a few people stepped in. Robin greeted the new customers, going back to organizing a shelf. "Question," she walked over to me.
I looked up from the agenda of the day. My friend joined me with two movies in hand. "Which one is better, Tron or The Karate Kid?" she asked. I looked at each movie, tapping my chin in thought. Every Friday, Steve and Robin would come over to my apartment and watch a movie.
"The Karate Kid," I said. She nodded and hid it behind the counter so nobody would take it. The customers from earlier came over to rent out their movies.
Robin took care of the small group while I fixed the agenda. Keith wanted us to do a lot of projects today, but knowing Robin and I, we wouldn't get half of them done. We'd usually blame it on how busy the store was, which wasn't a total lie. "Have a great rest of your day," Robin said, waving them goodbye.
She turned to me with her arms resting on the countertop. "I totally forgot I have that date with Sam tonight," I said. Robin's shoulders dropped. "Another date?" she said with a raised brow. I nodded and closed the journal.
I set it below the register, putting the pen on top. I hadn't been going out that frequently. "I promised Sam that we'd eat dinner together," I said. Sam was in my Geometry course.
The two of us had been partners on a project which led to him asking me out. I would've said no, but Sam was nice, and why not? "Is this the Sam with the weird ears or the one that has that snorting laugh?" Robin asked. She pointed to her own ears.
"The one with the snorting laugh," I answered. She laughed herself, covering her mouth to try and suppress her reaction. "Sam is nice, and I'm actually excited for once," I said. Robin smiled and pat me on the shoulder. "At least you're better than Steve," she commented.
Now it was my turn to laugh. She turned back to the outside of the store, watching as some cars drove in and out of the small parking lot. "Don't you get tired of it? I feel like this is your fifth date this month," she said. "It's not a whole lot," I shrugged, "I mean, all four dates have been fails, but I'm confident that I'll find someone."
I always thought it must've been something wrong with me. But Steve would always say that it wasn't my fault, just the guys I was going on dates with. Robin often commented on how the main reason why I couldn't find someone was because I already had someone in my life who was head over heels for me.
And no, she wasn't talking about Keith. At least, I hope she wasn't. Keith never had a good rep when it came to asking people out. "I just don't see you and Sam working out," Robin sighed. "Thank you, Robin, for the encouragement," I remarked.
She rolled her eyes at my response. She hopped over the counter to grab a pencil that had fallen. Robin set it back into the jar next to the computer. "I'm just saying," she put her hands up, "You have the perfect person in your life, and you just can't see it." She ignored my confused expression and continued speaking.
"Steve. Y/N, I'm talking about Steve."
"What?"
"Steve. I'm talking about him," she repeated. "Yeah, I heard you the first time," I responded. I shook my head in disagreement, moving over to the computer to type in today's rentals. Robin walked around to join my side.
She set a hand on top of mine, pulling my hand away from the keyboard. "Cingulomania," she said. Now I was really freaking confused. She let out a long, heavy sigh. "The desire to be held in someone's arms," Robin continued. "Huh?" I replied.
"Oh my god. You and Steve are really the same," Robin said. She reached over the computer to turn it off. Before I could stop her, Robin grabbed the notebook and pen and chucked it over the counter. She stared at me with crossed arms. "Cingulomania. It means the desire to be held in someone's arms," Robin repeated.
I turned to her in the office chair, my own arms crossed. Now I know why Robin told Keith that she could cover Steve's shift. "The reason why your dates have failed is because that little part of your brain is telling you not to move forward," Robin explained. "Are you telling me that I'm self-sabotaging my dating life?" I said.
"That is exactly what I'm saying," Robin said. She leaned to the side, so she rested against the counter again. "Why in the hell would I do that?" I said. "Because you don't want to think about how many times you could've been with Steve," Robin clarified, "I know the two of you like the back of my hand. You're extremely the same."
Robin stood up straight to continue speaking her point. "When the both of you make eye contact, it's like there's a conversation going on without the talking aspect. Whenever we have movie nights, there is no hesitation when it comes to holding each other's hands," Robin explained, "And I see the way you blush when Steve puts his arms around you. Same with him." She put her hands on her hips.
I could tell she was very proud of herself. I stood up from the desk to retrieve the notebook and pen that she threw. "Dustin sees it. Lucas, Mike, and Max all see it. You and Steve are just too blind to see it," Robin said. "You're delusional," I retorted.
"No. You're delusional for not using your smart-ass brain to see," Robin said. I stared at her for a few seconds before putting the book down. I pinched the area between my brows, realizing that Robin was right. "Okay, but I'm still going on the date tonight," I said.
Robin's mouth fell open at the sound of my statement. She followed me as I walked over to another shelf that had been messed up. "Did everything I just tell you not reach your ears?" Robin said. "No, it did," I replied, "I've already canceled once on Sam, I don't want to cancel last minute." Robin groaned, tilting her head back. "Why are you so nice to people?" she said.
I shrugged and went back to organized. She kept her eyes on for a split second before walking over to the front of the store to start on some more chores. For the rest of our shift, I couldn't stop thinking about what Robin said.
Sometimes I try to not let the things she says get to my head. But this one really stuck with me. Maybe she was right. Maybe I am self-sabotaging without even realizing it.
_________
(Later that night)
"And so, I told him I wasn't going to buy the truck because it was a waste of money," Sam shrugged, "I mean, you know how much I just love my cars. This guy was really trying to sell me something that would just fall apart." I smiled, nodding along. I should've stuck with what Robin said.
This date was going terribly. All Sam had been talking about was the cars he or his dad had. And all I had been thinking about was how I wish I could be at my apartment with my friends, primarily Steve. While in thought, I hadn't realized Sam had asked me what color he should paint his Corvette.
I cleared my throat and went back to eating my dinner. Sam waited impatiently for my response. "What about red?" I suggested. "Nah. I've already got two red cars," he replied. My lips pressed in a thin one as I nodded in reply. He grinned, taking a sip of his drink. Molly, our waitress, came over and asked how we were doing.
Sam quickly replied that we were doing wonderful. Molly glanced at me. "Great. The food is great, thank you," I said. She looked at me questionably before leaving me and my date to ourselves. Thankfully, Sam hadn't caught the glance. "So, what're you doing for spring break?" Sam asked.
He cut up his steak, pouring a ridiculous amount of sauce on the pieces. "Not much. I think my friends and I might stay at Lovers Lake for a few days," I answered. Sam nodded and then drenched the rest of his steak in the sauce. "Where are you going?" I asked. "Cape Cod, my grandparents have a nice house right on the shore," he answered.
The more the date continued, the more I realized that Sam was just like the other guys. I looked around the restaurant discreetly to find our waitress. "You should see the view," Sam quickly added. He went on and on about the house and, what do you know, his cars. This wasn't anything like our first date.
I finished my Y/F/M and set my fork on the side of the plate. "My father is having an opening ceremony for his work this Monday. I was wondering if you could be my plus one," Sam said, "There will be a great Jazz band. Wonderful food. And you'll get to meet some of my father's successful coworkers."
Molly came over with a pitcher of water, pouring some into my glass. I smiled at her and took a sip. "Um," I began but was interrupted. "Great. It is black-tie attire. You can wear that black dress you wore for your Speech class," Sam interjected. "Sam, I never said yes," I shook my head.
My date look at me, very confused. He pushed his plate to the side, giving me his full attention. "Why wouldn't you say yes? It will be a great party. You'll meet wonderful people, and-" Sam said. Molly walked over to the table, preventing Sam from speaking any further. "So sorry to interrupt," she said.
Our waitress pulled her blonde hair away from her face, her arms behind her back. "Y/N is it?" she asked me. I nodded in response. "I think we went to high school together," Molly said. She winked at me and covertly tilted her head to Sam. I soon took the hint when I noticed Sam's focus on downing the rest of his water.
"Oh, yes. We had Biology together, didn't we?" I said.
"We sure did. Mr. Harris' class," Molly smiled, pulling an act. I smiled in a thankful manner. She then turned to Sam, who looked up from his now empty plate. "Sir, if you'd like to go ahead and pay where you walked in, that would be great," Molly said. I lowered my head, acting like I was fixing the sleeve of my dress.
Sam glanced at Molly and then at me. Molly stood there, smiling. He sighed and stood up from the table. "Just over there, sir," the waitress pointed to the wooden podium. He never thanked her and walked to the front. I watched him as he pulled out his wallet. "Thank you," I said to Molly.
She smiled and set a hand on my shoulder. "Of course. I could tell that he wasn't being very gentlemen-like," Molly said. I thanked her one more time before meeting Sam at the front of the fancy restaurant. It was quiet on the way over to Sam's convertible. Sam hadn't even opened up the door like he did when he picked me up.
And it was quiet on the way to my apartment. I leaned my head against the back of the seat, watching as the trees and light posts flew past. Sam pulled up into the parking lot of my apartment complex. "Thank you," I said as he stopped the car. Sam nodded. He didn't say anything.
I took my purse from the spot in front of my feet. Sam pulled away as soon as I got out of his car. "Well, that went great," I said. I grabbed my keys from the pocket of my purse. The lights were still on when I unlocked the front door, same with the tv. "Your home!" Robin exclaimed, jumping up from the living room couch.
She grinned with her arms up in the air. I took off my shoes, setting them into the basket on the side. "How did you get in here?" I asked. "Extra key," Steve said, walking into the living room from the kitchen. I rolled my eyes and shrugged off my jean jacket. The two of them sat on the couch with a bowl of popcorn sitting on the coffee table.
"And I see you've also raided my pantry," I commented. I noticed that there were a few bags of chips sitting on the island. Steve put up a thumbs up. "How was the date?" he asked, tilting his head back so he could look at me. "It was definitely a date," I answered. Both of them look at me with furrowed brows.
It was nice to get changed out of my dress and into a comfy pair of pajamas. Steve and Robin were still watching their movie when I stepped out of my room. "So, another failed date?" Robin said. I nodded and grabbed a drink from the fridge. "What was it this time?" Steve asked.
Once I had my drink, I sat down on the couch. "All he had to talk about was what car he should drive next to school. Or trying to decide where he wants to go on vacation," I explained, "And don't get me started on how much he wants everyone to know how wealthy his family is."
Robin handed me the bowl of snacks. I smiled at her. "I take it that the date didn't go well then," Steve said. "Yeah. We had this really sweet waitress named Molly. She knew right away how I felt about Sam," I added. I noticed that the two of them were watching the Karate Kid without me.
"I can't believe you guys didn't wait for me. I thought we were friends," I said, handing the snack bowl back to Robin. "You were taking too long," Robin sighed. She leaned back on the couch and pulled the knitted blanket to her chin. I rolled my eyes. Steve took the blanket he was using and draped one end over me.
I thanked him with a smile and put my head on his shoulder. Steve reached for my hand, lacing my fingers with his. Robin glimpsed at me for a second. She winked and brought her focus back to the television.
_________
(The Next Day - A Shift at Family Video)
"What about this one?" Steve said, showing me another movie suggestion. It was Saturday, and the store was surprisingly slow today. I yawned and shrugged my shoulders. "The Goonies?" Steve suggested again. "Oh, Josh Brolin," I said.
I reached for the tape, but Steve pulled his hand away. "Oop, never mind," he said. He leaned over to put the movie back into the pile. "What? What's wrong with Josh Brolin?" I said, turning so I faced him.
He looked at me with raised brows like I had just asked something absurd. "Nothing is wrong with Josh Brolin. The guy is great. But if I have to see Robin make googley eyes at Kerri Green one more time, I'm banning The Goonies from our movie list," Steve said.
I nodded and told him to look through the stack of movies again. He sighed, bringing the pile over to the two of us. Steve leaned back with a hand at the top of the shelf. I looked through the stack, trying to find one that we haven't seen. "Okay. We've got...." my sentence trailed.
We had at least four or five other options, but I still wanted to watch The Goonies. I held up the movie and waved it around to try and convince him. "C'mon...." I said. Steve sighed. "Yeah, sure," Steve replied (GIF Above). I cheered to myself and walked over to behind the register.
Steve set the basket back onto the cart to put them away later. He leaned against the counter, his arms crossed. Steve looked at me as I logged into the computer. "What?" I said, not glancing away from the screen. "Nothing," he shrugged. I looked at him with narrowed eyes.
I finished logging the movie into our store's system. Steve followed me with his eyes as I walked around the register to grab my water bottle from the cart. "Can I ask you a question?" he asked. "Depends on what the question is," I responded, taking a sip of my water and leaning against the side of an aisle.
He smirked and stood beside me, his shoulder against mine. "Do you know what cingulomania means? Robin mentioned it yesterday," Steve spoke, "Sometimes I feel like she just makes up random words to confuse me. Which, if she is, it's working."
[Flashback to the day before. Third-Person View]
Robin and Steve walked through the front door of Y/N's apartment, using the key that Y/N had given them. Robin took her Converse off and dropped them into the basket beside the door. She immediately put the movie in and hopped onto the couch.
She ignored the pillows that fell onto the ground when she settled in. Steve grabbed some popcorn from the top shelf in the kitchen, putting it into the microwave. He glanced at the clock, trying to guess when Y/N would get home from work.
Despite Steve's growing feelings for Y/N, he was eager to hear how her date went. He didn't like to admit that part of him was happy she didn't have a successful date. Steve, too, suffered from cingulomania even though he had no idea what that word meant.
Robin had tried explaining on the way over, but Steve was so confused that she didn't even bother to continue. "You really don't know what cingulomania means?" Robin said. She looked over the top of the couch to see Steve. He shook his head and took out a large bowl from the kitchen island.
She rolled her eyes and turned the volume down on the television. Robin had been looking forward to watching a movie with her friends. She was also hoping Y/N would get home soon so they could finish it together.
"How come I've never heard of it?" Steve said, pouring the snack into a bowl. "Because you're an idiot," Robin corrected. "Wow, how kind of you," Steve remarked. He joined his best friend in the living room. Robin took the bowl from him, shoving the popcorn into her mouth.
Steve picked up the pillows that fell, resting them on the recliner beside the television. He took a blanket from the basket and sat back down. "To put it in simpler terms for your small-minded brain," Robin tapped his head. Steve brought his hands up and fixed his hair. "It basically means that you want to be in her arms, or you want her to be in your arms," Robin said.
Now, Steve was even more confused about how Robin could possibly know about his feelings. "You're not very good at hiding it," Robin said. "Well, I must be. Because Y/N hasn't said a thing," Steve replied, eating the popcorn. She never responded to his reply. Instead, she looked at him with raised brows.
She took the bowl from him and put it on the coffee table. Robin turned down the volume, trying to get her friend's attention. "Steve, you need to make a move or something because it's starting to get exhausting watching you two love each other from afar," Robin said.
Steve sighed and looked back at the movie, pulling the blanket so it covered his arms. "I'll do it," he claimed. "When? Because I talked to Y/N today, and - by the way, you two are creepily right for each other," Robin said, changing the subject mid-sentence. Steve thought to himself, rethinking everything he's done for Y/N and what he's said.
Robin set a hand on his shoulder. "You know her. And you should know that she'll like you no matter what," Robin said, "Plus if it works out for you and Y/N. I could totally add Matchmaker to my resume." Steve looked at her, confused. Robin disregarded Steve's expression and leaned back with a smile on her face.
[Present Day. Y/N's Point of View]
I looked up from my water bottle, remembering what Robin said to me yesterday. 'Cingulomania. It means the desire to be held in someone's arms,' Robin's words popped into my head. "I don't know. What does it mean?" I question, going along.
Steve crossed his arms, playing with the loose thread from his green vest. "The desire to be held in someone's arms," he responded. "Oh," I said, nodding. He nodded as well. "I do think Robin mentioned it to be, then," I said. Steve glanced at me.
"Robin made a comment or two about my dating life. And, how there is a possibility that I am self-sabotaging these dates without realizing it," I answered, "Which I don't think is possible because I've had fun....at least I think I've had fun."
He nodded as I spoke. I felt his hand brush mine. "So, then Robs said the word 'Cingulomania,' to which she followed with, 'You have the perfect person in your life, and you just can't see it'," I paused for a brief moment but was cut short when Steve spoke.
"Who's the guy?"
Steve fixed his position, his shoulder against the wooden side of the shelf. His arms laid at his sides rather than crossed over his chest. "You," I said, "Which I thought was completely wrong, but then I thought about how much I want to be with you at all times and not with those stupid dates who, clearly, have no interest in me."
"So, yes, maybe I suffer from whatever the wor-"
"Cingulomania."
"Yes, that," I pointed at him, "And, so what if sometimes I want to hold your hand or feel what's like to be in your arms. Or, I don't know."
Steve brought a hand out and lowered my arms. I guess I had taken after Robin by waving my hands around when speaking. "I think you're hanging out with Robin too much because you almost poked my eye," Steve joked. I chuckled, feeling my cheeks turn to a light shade of pink.
He laced his hand with mine and kissed the top of my hand. "You don't have another date soon, right?" Steve said. "Nope," I shook my head while speaking. He smirked, leaning his head down to kiss me.
He pulled me closer by the waist, my grip on my water bottle slipping. Steve caught it before it fell on my foot. I felt him smirk against my lips and set the water bottle on the rickety cart behind me. Steve pulled away first, the smile on his freckled face never leaving.
"I don't think I suffer from cingulomania anymore," I said. "Good, that's good," he nodded, leaning down to kiss me again.

Upside Down Feelings 2
Chapter Four & Five: Will the Wise / Dig Dug
Tumblr media
COAUTHOR OF THE SERIES: @mitchloveswriting show her some luv bc I couldn't do iw :,)
summary: Eddie and Y/N have a sweet moment the morning after they make things official. Steve asks Y/N for help winning Nancy back
word count: like 5240
tw: sexually suggestive language and not edited (oops)
In the beginning, you’d only come to him when you needed a distraction. When you were angry or upset, the first thing that crossed your mind was Eddie. The way his lips moved against yours was mesmerizing; it was enough to silence your mind if any racing thoughts or overwhelming feelings. The taste of menthol cigarettes mixed with beer made him feel like God’s forbidden fruit: tempting, sweet, sensual and sinful. If your friends and family knew that mouth had kissed every inch of you, or the sounds that tongue coaxed out of you- they’d never look at you in the same way. Maybe that’s what always made you come back in the early days. The danger.
You’d always come over with the prettiest little fuck-me eyes he’s ever seen. What was a boy to do when the girl he’d liked for two years was on her knees begging for him to make her feel good? Even if he couldn’t have you in the way he wanted, he’d take you in whatever form you’d grant him.
Just sex, you’d told him. Nothing more.
One day, you came over with wet mascara streaks still fresh on your cheeks. You barely gave him a second to react to the sight before your lips crashed onto his own. For the first time ever, he pulled away. He couldn’t give you what you were asking for, not in the state you were in.
So he sat you down on his couch, grabbed you a glass of water, and listened to you rant. You spoke of some argument you’d had with your mother. He didn’t know you as well as he used to, but something told him those tears were the cause of a bigger issue. You later revealed it was the anniversary of your step father’s death.
That was the first time you both realized just how much you had in common and how naturally you both spoke to one another. You both had shitty fathers. You both had a beloved parental figure die at a young age. You both seemed to cope in similar ways: steering clear of love and using sex to cover up the pain.
Friends with benefits, you’d told him. Nothing more.
Once a month turned into once a week turned into spending more time with each other than apart. You grew on him in a way that no one ever had before. He loved the way you spoke about your favorite bands with such passion, and genuinely listened and liked the new ones he showed you. He loved the way you always begged him to teach you guitar, and the way you pouted when your fingers began to hurt from the metal strings. He loved the way you always felt the need to sit on your knees and wave your arms around when you explained some big, elaborate story from your childhood. He loved your laugh. He loved your sense of humor. He loved your heart just as much as he loved your body.
He loved you.
And he knew that, although you’d couldn’t admit it to yourself, you loved him too. You showed it in the way you looked at him, the way your lips kissed his jaw when you thought he was asleep, the way you’d laugh at his jokes, no matter how stupid or ill-timed they were. You were willing to ditch your no-relationship rule so you could preserve these intimate moments for just the two of you.
If it wasn’t love, it was as close as you’d let yourself get to it.
You might’ve not been willing to fall in love, but he made a promise to himself to show you what real love is. It was fun and easy. It wasn’t nearly painful as you believed it to be. Even if he wasn’t your last love, at least he could open your mind to the idea of it.
It was the least he could do for the girl that did the same for him.
“You make me feel like a bad influence,” Eddie chuckled, watching his warm breath form into smoky moisture as he placed a cigarette into your extended hand. “You were such a good girl before me.”
“I just wanna see what all the fuss is about!” You laughed, placing it between your lips. God, he hated to admit just how sexy cigarettes looked when they were wrapped between your lips. “Come on, Eddie! Give me a light.”
“Y/N,” He groaned hesitantly, not wanting to corrupt the sweet girl beside him more than he already has. “If I didn’t already have a special place in hell reserved for me before this, I definitely do now.“
“And suddenly he’s afraid of hell?” You teased, making him chuckle. He looked down to play with his black lighter, weaving it around his fingers as he bit his lip in thought. “You look so cute when you’re concerned.”
“I’m stealing your innocence. Of course, I’m concerned!” He shouted playfully. “You used to wear high ponytails and conservative jeans. Now you’re wearing these sexy little dresses with my leather jacket and those damn leather boots with your hair- Oh, my God. Your hair looks so good in those messy curls and-“
“Eddie,” You giggled. “What’s your point?”
“Sorry, what was I talking about?” He shot you a lopsided grin.
“You were about to hand me that lighter.”
“Yeah, nice try,” He chuckled.
“Eddie!”
“What?! Can you blame me for feeling a little guilty?” He pouted.
“Yes, because I’m consenting to all of it. Hell, I’m the one that initiates most of the bad things we do! Now give me a damn light!”
“Let’s count the amount of firsts you’ve shared with me, shall we?” He held out his hand in front of your face before counting on his fingers. You rolled your eyes and sighed with annoyance.
This was not as easy as you thought it was going to be.
“I was the first person you had sex with, the first person you got drunk with. I’m your first real relationship.
“Baby, come on! Just-“
“Ah, ah! Let me finish!” He pressed a warm finger against your lips as he continued. “First time sneaking out to spend the night at a boy’s house. And now your first cigarette?? You are so landing me in the seventh circle of hell for this one, Y/N.”
“I just wanna try it!” You laughed, reaching for the lighter in his hand but he was quick to move it. He chuckled before reaching forward and snatching the cigarette out of your mouth. “Hey!”
“I’m giving it back. Don’t worry,” He put the cigarette between his own lips with a smirk, lighting it and taking a long drag before speaking up again. “Don’t tell your friends about this. If they find out, they’re gonna tell the church.”
Eddie adjusted in the driver’s seat of his van before turning to you. He took a quick look around the school parking lot to make sure the coast was clear before grazing his thumb across your lips and gently forcing them to part.
“Open up. And take a small drag. Breathe it out of your window,” He said before he placed the cigarette between your warm lips.
You looked him in the eye in an attempt to be sexy. Then as you breathed it in, it felt like a punch to the chest. You instantly turned to the window and erupted violently into a coughing fit, making him throw his head back in laughter as he took it out of your hand.
He rubbed your back as you continued to choke on the remainder of the smoke before you began laughing weakly. “Is it me or is the world spinning right now?”
“That, my sweet, innocent angel, is a nicotine buzz,” He laughed, leading you back to sit on a nearby lawn chair. “Pretty great, huh?”
You shook your head in disagreement, face still scrunched up from the burning sensation in your lungs. “Never again. Help, my fingers are really cold now!”
"Cold fingers? Well, we can't have that!" You rolled your eyes fondly and held your hands out. He smiled, bringing them to his lips. His warm breath danced around your palms as he pressed your fingers to his cheeks.
“Better?” He smiled at the way your gaze of pure adoration. Jesus, he could melt on the spot.
“Mhm,” You nodded with a smile. “Better.”
"It's a good thing you don't like it. Disgusting habit." He shrugged and you giggled, a glint in your eye as you stroked his jaw with your thumb.
"Hm, I don't know about disgusting. It's actually pretty hot, if you ask me." Eddie didn't look impressed.
"Really?" He deadpanned and you shuffled a little closer to him. He eyed your movement suspiciously and you simply smiled innocently.
"At least it's hot when you do it."
"Really?" And suddenly he sounded much more interested.
"Mhm…" You nodded, but it was muffled by the soft kiss he proceeded to press to your lips.
He pulled away and pressed his forehead to your own, admiring your bashful smile.
"So you're still coming tonight, right?" He asked and you nodded, causing him to pull his head away.
"Of course, I wouldn't miss it, Eds." Eddie squeezed his eyes shut, he loved it when you called him that.
"Do you need a ride or anything? I mean I'll have all the boys with me, but I could make two trips if you need." You shook your head, your cheeks began to hurt from smiling so much.
That was Eddie though, you couldn't not smile around him.
"No, Eddie, it's okay. You should focus on the show. I expect a top notch performance tonight, understand?" He nodded and brought his hand up to his head in a salute.
"Yes, ma'am!"
———
“Hey, Henderson!” Steve called from behind you as you loaded up the few books you needed for the night into your bag. Within seconds, he took his usual spot beside you, leaning on the locker and peering past yours to look at you as he spoke. “Jesus, Y/N, I’ve been trying to talk to you all day but your freak of a boyfriend kept beating me to it.”
“Harrington, if you want me to keep playing along with the role of ‘close friend’, I recommend you stop calling my boyfriend a freak,” You rolled your eyes as you zipped your bag closed. “Plus, you don’t have to worry about that happening again. He just wanted to stick around today since we made things official last night.”
“Oh, shit,” His eyes widened as you both made your way towards the exit. “You’re being serious?!”
“Mm, as a funeral.”
“No fucking way! There’s no way Eddie Munson just bagged you! Not with that long hair and those weird curtain bangs and tattoos-“
“I happen to like his hair and tattoos,” You interrupted, making him laugh. “What is so funny?”
“I’m not laughing at you,” He chuckled, shaking his head as he opened the door for you. You continued to walk a step ahead of him as you listened to him talk. “I’m laughing because Billy was asking me about you earlier. And I told him the whole rock and roll douchebag thing he has going on wasn’t exactly your type. But I guess I stand corrected.”
“Pft- Oh, please! Eddie is everything Billy thinks he is. I don’t have a type, but you have one thing right: I don’t go for douchebags. I’m not into pretentious boys who think they’re better than everyone just because they’re pretty and aggressive,” You scoffed, watching as Steve smirk. “Why are you smiling?”
“Not a douchebag my ass!”
“You know, he’s a really good guy, Steve. I know everyone gives him shit but those rumors just aren’t true. He’s kind and caring and empathetic and I happen to be excited about my new relationship with him. If you really wanna be friends, then stop teasing me about him and be happy for me.”
“… So it’s not just a phase?” Steve blinked. “You actually like him?”
“You sound like my mother,” You rolled your eyes as you both walked up to his car. “Yes, Steve. I actually like him. A lot.”
You paused and placed your hands on top of the roof of his BMW as you continued your spiel.
“I mean, I’m sure you probably felt this with Nancy, but you know that feeling when you finally find someone that you can be your most authentic self around and get praised for it? Someone to tell your stupid jokes to, to rant to or cry with. It’s like being best friends but with fun benefits.”
His heart sunk into his stomach.
Is that what he was supposed to feel with Nancy?
There was no denying the fact that he loved her, but he felt like he needed to act a certain way to be accepted by her. He often suppressed his sense of humor or desires because he knew she wouldn’t react well. In his experience, every time he began to show her his authentic self or tried to tell his stupid jokes, she’d roll her eyes or groan with frustration. Steve just always assumed everyone was supposed to mold themselves to fit those they loved. He’d done it his whole life. How was a relationship any different?
He blinked in realization as he took his seat behind the wheel. The last thing he expected from teasing you about your new relationship was to have the girl who didn’t believe in love show him what it was like to be in love.
“Did she ever talk about me like that?” He breathed as he reached to turn the ignition. You looked over with confusion. “Nance. Has she ever told you how excited she was to be with me or defend our relationship?”
“She defended it like her life depended on it,” You snorted, making him smile. “Did she ever tell you why we stopped being friends back during sophomore year?”
“Not really,” He shook his head. “I always found it odd that she suddenly stopped talking about you. I asked but she told me it was just a small falling out.”
“Just a small falling out,” You echoed bitterly, earning a look of confusion. You quickly recollected yourself; it was not your place to tell her boyfriend the truth. Not when it shone a bad light on her. “I told her it was a stupid idea to go out with you. I assumed you were just trying to get another notch under your belt. And I said that she was acting like someone she wasn’t just to gain your validation. I told her you’d only break her heart.”
He furrowed his brows, wondering if you were speaking from your own experience with him.
“That argument is what led us to that small falling out,” You sighed. “Even after everything happened with Barb, when we started looking for her with Jonathan, Nancy never hesitated to stand up for you every single time we’d talk shit about you.”
“Really?” He smiled.
“Yeah, really,” You laughed. “God, I remember thinking it was so fucking annoying. Yet, here I am doing the same thing.”
“But, uh…” He bit his lip nervously, as if he almost didn’t want to ask the follow up question. Or he didn’t want to know the answer. “What about recently? Because she said everything changed after what we found out about Barb.”
“I don’t know,” You shrugged. “I don’t really talk to Nancy as much anymore. And when I do, you’re there. And it’s kinda hard to talk shit about someone when they’re standing right beside you.”
“Oh, fuck off,” He chuckled, putting his car into reverse. He placed his right hand on the back of your headrest as he turned around to check for any passersby before he began driving out of the school parking lot.
That was only partially true. The fact of the matter was that, as of recently, you found yourself defending Steve more than Nancy ever has. She constantly complains about his immaturity and his inability to write college admission essays. You were the one reminding her of his big heart and his love for her. Eventually, you got tired of playing relationship councilor and stopped hanging out with them all together. With the exception of dinner with the Pursers.
“So what’s the plan?” He asked. “You got any ideas as to how I can win her back?”
“Duh,” You laughed, grabbing a little piece of paper from the side pocket of your backpack. “Okay, we need to drop by the store and buy some red roses and chocolates. Her favorite flowers are Daisies but she told me she subscribes to the red roses for apologies method. And I came up with a rough draft for a speech but we need to Steve-ify it.”
“Okay, what do you got so far?” He asked as he pulled onto the main road.
“I was thinking something like,” You cleared your throat before dropped your voice to sound like a surfer boy. “Babe, listen. I’ve been thinking-“
“Hey! I do not talk like that!” He rolled his eyes. “You’re making me sound like a character from Cheech and Chong’s Up In Smoke!”
“Shut up! I’m getting into character!” You smiled, making him chuckle and motion for you to continue on with your stupid voice. “Babe, listen. So I’ve been thinking, and I love you. I’m sorry-“
“I’m sorry?!” He interrupted again. “What the hell am I sorry for?!”
“I don’t know! Come up with something to be sorry for!”
“Baby, listen. So I’ve been thinking. And I’m sorry for thinking you love me even after you’ve said it a million times!” He mocked your tone, making you laugh wholeheartedly. He looked over and smiled before continuing. “I was just under the influence that when someone says ‘I love you and I want to be with you’, I should fucking believe them! My mistake. Anyways, here are some roses. Can we get back together now so we can continue to pretend to be in love?”
“Perfect!” You gave him a round of applause to which he pretended to bow down. “I’d also add the word ‘bullshit’ in there to really drive the point home.”
He shook his head and chuckled.
“Remind me why I want her back?”
“Beats me,” You shrugged. “I assumed she was like really good in bed.”
“Wh-” Steve’s smile dropped and looked over at you with wide eyes as a blush began to creep up on his cheeks. “No! We aren’t talking about this!”
“Is she?” You continued. There was something so enjoyable about watching Hawkins High’s It Boy stutter and stammer.
“No! I mean- I-I didn’t mean to say no as in she’s not good- I just m-meant..” He drew in a frustrated breath. “I’m not talking about this with you! You’re her innocent friend that shouldn’t be exposed to-“
“Okay, so that’s a no,” You smirked. “That doesn’t surprise me. You both seem very vanilla.”
“No! No, that is not a no. That is a ‘that’s something that stays between me and my girlfriend’.”
“Ex girlfriend,” You corrected.
“Yes. Thank you for reminding me of that, Henderson. I almost forgot what the purpose of this fucking hang out was,” He rolled his eyes as you threw your head back in laughter. “I’m glad you’re finding pleasure from my pain. Which store sells roses?”
“United on 121st,” You giggled, pointing at the store up ahead. You smiled as you looked down at the list in your hands. “We should also get her some chocolates. Her favorites are the Ferrero Rocher. But she also likes vanilla cupcakes-“
“WE ARE NOT VANILLA!” He shouted with annoyance, making you double over in laughter. “WHAT?! We’re not! We get kinky! We do some really freaky stuff! Like so kinky that-“
“Staying in missionary the whole time isn’t considered to be kinky, Steve,” You managed to get out.
“Okay. Ha. Ha. Laugh away! Steve’s sex life is such a funny joke!” He grumbled. “As if that geek boyfriend of yours knows anything about being kinky..”
“That’s what I thought too,” You shrugged.
“Staying in missionary the whole time isn’t considered to be kinky, Y/N,” He mocked, making you chuckle and roll your eyes. Steve knew you well enough to know that if you weren’t arguing to defend your stance, you genuinely meant what you were saying. His innate curiosity got the best of him. “No fucking way.”
You looked up with an innocent smile.
“I don’t believe you,” He narrowed his eyes
“Then don’t believe me.”
“There’s no way that Dungeons and Dragons freak knows anything about-“
“He likes to play with wax,” You interrupted, frustrated with the mean nickname. Steve’s eyes got wide, like a deer in headlights.
“L-Like candles?”
“Mhm, you know- he lets it drip on me and then uses his pocket knife to gently wipe the hardened wax off of me,” You explained casually as bent over to tuck the piece of paper neatly into your bag again. Steve’s lips part in surprise. He looked over just in time to see your shirt ride up your back. He half-expected to see a tramp stamp after that comment.
He glanced at the road again for a moment before his eyes were drawn back to your body. He couldn’t help but notice the way your back arched slightly as you leaned forward- or how those thigh high stockings hugged your thighs the same way his hand wanted to in that moment.
When you sat back up, you readjusted your shirt and skirt without a second thought. His eyes trailed back to your face to see the light makeup and trace of lipgloss covering those plump lips of yours.
You furrowed your brows, never having seen that look in his eyes before: so dark and lustful that you barely recognized him. You hated how much you liked the way desire looked on him.
But it was only for a split second before he blinked and looked back at the road as if the filthiest images of you weren’t running rampant through his mind. It almost made you doubt you saw it in the first place.
“So, uh,” You began. “Back to the apology..”
Your voice trailed off as his attention continued to wander through the depths of filth that he could usually keep at bay.
Sure, there was no denying the unavoidable chemistry the two of you shared. He wasn’t blind to his attraction towards you but keeping his thoughts about you to a minimum was child’s play; all he had to do was remind himself that you were his girlfriend’s best friend, and his loyalty would shut off the thought of you like a switch. Though he couldn’t keep the thoughts of you from arising, he could always bury them back down as a way to respect his relationship, as well as his blooming friendship with you.
Up until that moment, he’d seen you as Nancy’s sweet and innocent friend- the girl he’d shared his sweet and innocent first kiss with back in middle school. Maybe you were loud mouthed and wore outfits that demanded the gaze of any person attracted to feminity, but he made himself believe it was an act. A facade.
But it felt as if the wall that guarded him from seeing you in an erotic light had melted into a hot pile of wax. All he could imagine were the sweet whimpers that fell from your lips when those hot drops of wax landed on your soft, delicate skin- the quivering of your breath when the sharp knife gently scraped across your skin to relieve you of the hardened wax prison on your pretty stomach, your arched back, and your perky-
“STEVE, WATCH OUT!” You gasped, grabbing his arm and snapping his attention back to the road. He quickly hit the breaks as he saw a jogger and her dog cross the street, stopping just in time to to spare their lives. “Jesus, dude! This whole Nancy thing must really be weighing you down. You want me to drive?”
How could you be so naive? He thought. The thought of you is intoxicating enough to make me drive like I’m under the influence.
“N-No, I’m good,” He breathed as he felt the familiar burning sensation of a red blush tickle the skin on his cheeks and nose. “What were you saying about the apology speech?”
———
“Flowers?” You asked as Steve drove out of the parking lot that you sat at for an hour as you constructed his take-me-back speech.
“Check.”
“Chocolate?”
“Check.”
“And apology speech! Looks like you got everything!” You grinned. “Could you take me home? I need to get ready for Eddie’s concert tonight.”
“Why? You look fine,” He said without a second thought.
The comment took you aback. It wasn’t even meant to be a compliment but the way he said it without even feeling the need to look at you made those pesky butterflies that were reserved just for him come back for the first time in a while. You bit back a smile and chuckled as you took the price tags and calorie counts off of the items. He looked over to see the soft blush on your cheeks as you kept your gaze strategically averted.
How you could go from being the object of his filthiest desires to being the cutest thing he has ever laid eyes on was beyond him.
Fuck, Steve. Snap out of it! He thought. Take her home.
“Besides, I’d really like for you to come with me,” He shrugged.
So much for taking her home.
You looked up in time to see his big brown eyes linger on your own before they were back on the road. You watched as his thumb bounced up and down nervously on his steering wheel. “As like moral support or whatever.”
“You want me to come with you to Nancy’s?” You scoffed. “No way! We’re not exactly on the best terms. Besides, how bad would it look on you if you brought the girl you stayed the night with after your big argument?”
“Y/N, come on-“
“No. Nope. Take me home,” You frowned, watching as he took a left turn instead of taking the the one that led to your house. “Steve!”
“I’ll be quick, alright? You’ve stuck with me so far, what’s five more minutes?” He bargained, looking over to see you with your arms crossed over your chest. If looks could kill. “Don’t look at me like that!”
“Then take me home!” You scolded. He looked over at you with a guilty smile and continued to drive towards Nancy’s house. “I will throw myself out of this car if you don’t turn around in three seconds, Steve.”
“You wouldn’t,” He squinted over at you.
“Three.”
“You’d rather die than go to Nancy’s?”
“Two.”
“This is a little dramatic, don’t you- WOAH OKAY STOP REACHING FOR THE DOOR HANDLE!” He gasped, reaching over to grab your wrist and yank it down. The car swerved a bit before he regained control again. He looked over at you with a scowl. “Are you fucking crazy?! Jesus, dude. What are you? Twelve?!”
“Take me home, Steve,” You said sternly, yanking your arm out of his grasp. “I have to get ready. I don’t have time for-“
“Wow! Would you look at that?” He smiled sarcastically as he parked the car outside of the Wheeler’s house. “We’re here!”
“You know, for a moment there, I almost forgot just how much I fucking hate you,” You scoffed.
“Yeah, same here,” He rolled his eyes, angrily grabbing the flowers and chocolates from your lap. “Don’t worry. I’ll take your bratty ass home right after I’m done so you can go to your god damned concert! Stay here.”
“Good, because I’m tired of being around you anyways..” You huffed.
“Good, because I am too!” His pupils dilated from sheer anger.
“Just fucking get in there already so I can leave!”
“I’m going!” He snapped before getting out of the car and slamming the door. “Jesus, I can’t fucking stand her sometimes.”
He began adjusting his hair and clothes in the reflection of his window, making you roll your eyes at just how vain this boy was. You sat back angrily against his stupid passenger’s seat before you saw a familiar bike laying in the Wheeler’s driveway.
“Dustin?” You whispered as you looked over to see him speaking to Mr. Wheeler for a moment before he marched off with annoyance. You got out of the car only to hear Steve call behind you.
“Hey, what the hell did I tell you about staying in the car?” He shouted, jogging up to you. You felt him begin to grab your wrist before you snatched it back and shot him a death glare.
“Don’t touch me! I’m getting really fucking tired of you dragging me around like a fucking rag doll, Harrington!” You growled before you turned back around. He let out a breath of anger before running his hands through his hair with frustration as you turned around again. “Dustin!”
“What the hell is your brother doing here?” Steve breathed as the curly haired boy turned around to face you. His eyes lit up with an idea.
“Hey, are those flowers for Mr. or Mrs. Wheeler?” Dustin asked him as he marched up to the two of you. Steve looked down at the flowers with confusion.
“No?”
“Good,” Dustin said before he grabbed them from his hands and walked towards the BMW. You chuckled at the way Steve’s face fell.
“Hey- What the hell? Hey!” He called.
“Nancy isn’t home!” Your brother said.
“Where is she?”
“Doesn’t matter!” Dustin huffed.
“You Hendersons are a real ray of sunshine, aren’t you?” Steve scoffed, noticing the odd look on your face as your gaze remained on your brother. “What? What’s wrong?”
“I know that guilty face all too well,” You muttered before you jogged up to your little brother. “Hey! What kind of shit did you get yourself into this time, asshole? I don’t have time to solve whatever bullshit you’re about to drag us along to. I have an important date to get to!”
“Yeah, and I have an important apology to make!” Steve agreed.
“Oh, my God!” Dustin groaned. “We have bigger problems at hand than your love lives! You guys still have those bats?”
“Bats?”
“What bats?”
“The bats with the nails?” He responded matter of factly.
“Why?” Steve asked.
“Dustin,” You warned. “What the hell did you-“
“No time! I’ll explain it on the way!” He said as he hopped into the passenger’s seat.
“Now?!” You both questioned.
“NOW!” Dustin closed the door.
Steve looked over at you for some sort of clarification only to see you standing with a look of utter annoyance.
“That motherfucker took shotgun,” You muttered. He stifled a chuckle.
“What can I say? You snooze, you lose!” He shrugged as he began walking to the car. “Get in the back. Let’s go!”
“I hate you, you know that?” You narrowed your eyes.
“Right back at you, sweetheart!” Steve called as he hopped back into his car and turned the ignition.
