WHEN COWS FLY

It all commenced with a curious light up yonder in the night sky. I tried tellin' myself it was nothin' more than a semi-truck rollin' on by, but how in tarnation were them lights so god-dern bright, even up in the upstairs bedroom? And why in the devil was the light such a peculiar shade of green?

Well, it weren't too long afore they'd got us good 'n surrounded. We bunkered down, but we warn't gonna give up the ghost without a scrap. We caught 'em flat-footed, and I darn well managed to bring one of them contraptions down with my trusty shotgun and a mite of good fortune, while Muriel kept 'em busy. But I'll be hornswoggled, our luck didn't last long at all when another one of them blasted saucers hoisted her right up into the heavens.

Now it's just me, trapped down here in the ol' root cellar, awaitin' 'til them space critters take me, or my sweet cow finds her way back home.

erwin becomes odie's reluctant sidekick after she stops some rogue militia giving him a hard time outside his market stall. initially wary of her due to her ties to the very conspiracies that he spends his days theorizing over, he soon learns to put his concerns to one side in order to save his little sister. after all, odie chicken may be strangerville's only hope.

Erwin's steps plod back and forth from the Curio-shop to his van as he loads up his wares for the end of the work night. Clicking off the old radio, an unusually eerie silence settles in, an unsettling stillness Erwin hasn't felt since the dreaded Bizarre Fruit incident. The sudden shift in atmosphere sends a shiver down his spine as the ground beneath his legs begins to violently tremble.

A beam of blinding light pierces the dark Strangerville skies, looming imposingly from above, sending alarms blaring through Erwin's mind. He knows all too well what's happening to him: alien abduction. Despite having meticulously prepared protocols for such moments, fear paralyzes his body, rendering his limbs useless.

Returning to his senses all too late, the beam envelops him, obstructing his vision completely. He feels a perverse sense of weightlessness, as if the ground had left him stranded, to fend for himself alone against the void. Despite his desperate attempts to scream, his voice is silenced by the suffocating grip of panic. Frantically flailing his arms for anything within reach, the crushing sense of defeat overwhelms him as he faces the harrowing embrace of finality. Erwin clenches his teeth, bracing himself for the unimaginable horrors awaiting him above.

Just as he feels himself being swept away, a firm grip closes around his wrist, yanking him back from the brink. He crashes back to the desert floor with jolting force, his body jarred by the abrupt contact.

The dust settles and Erwin finds himself back inside his Curio-shop. The menacing beams of light are gone, but their effects linger, leaving him dazed and disoriented. He fights to catch his breath, and a presence is there to aid him, followed by a sudden thwack! over his head. He flinches, uncertain if he's still under attack or if the blow came from the entity who saved him. Through the haze, he hears a soft but stern voice. "What the hell is wrong with you?" The voice seethes with anger. Erwin struggles to open his eyes, feeling like he recognizes the voice of the angel in question, "...Coni?"

"I…I don't know any Connie… My name is Jules."
