I can tell by the looks of your tumblr and posts you have a pulse on what consumers are actually searching for. How are you translating that into your work at nordstrom?

This is a good question and it's always bouncing around my head. My current position (Sr Creative Director, Image) is entirely focused on image and video, working closely with the Editorial Director as my counterpart, and with other partners in marketing strategy and merchandising/styling (i.e., the people who choose the product). Essentially we are trying to give customers inspiring, compelling information (visual+editorial) while they shop, or consider shopping, with Nordstrom. Sometimes we do that by shooting in an environment that reflects the creative mood of the season (for example, our fall campaign was inspired by the industrial textures of Antonioni's first color film Red Desert, which somehow felt very relevant to me at that moment – the very deliberate but often very subtle color juxtaposed with an alienating industrialism...though of course we keep the images upbeat for this kind of very commercial purpose). Other times, we simplify and focus on conveying a mood or story through straightforward, product-focused shots with a strong, diverse, expressive cast of models. Through all of that, what we want to convey is the warmth and connection that is inherent to Nordstrom as a brand, and the great feeling and confidence that comes from wearing something you love.

Nordstrom spring campaign 2023

Linn of the River Dee above Braemar, Scotland. 

The name “Strath” means land hollowed out by a river, and it came from my great-great grandmother’s maiden name, Strathdee (land hollowed out by the River Dee, which is in the Highlands in Scotland, west of Aberdeen and Dunnottar Castle).
