I hope this is true. Because it would just be so in line with deciding to be so cartoonishly evil in public right before SAG was set to go on strike as well. A union that really has the power to shut down the whole industry and make them lose astronomical amounts of money per day.
All that Deadline article probably did was make SAG more emboldened to get everything they're asking for and not extend the deadline again.

networks and streamers cancelling shows they *can't* afford is insane. they can't afford the shows they create, they underpay their writers, and yet they rake in profit and return it to shareholders:
Tumblr media
can someone please explain this shit? bc all i see is tptb cancelling beloved shows and crying poormouth then turning huge profits and caring more about money than the point of the business they're actually in:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they turn a profit by gutting their assets.

streaming platforms read One Thousand and One Nights about Scheherazade exploiting human nature’s love of stories in a desperate fight to not be murdered by her husband, and thought her husband's unmet desire to hear a whole story in one sitting was the moral, and based their entire release schedule around that

Streaming platforms that don't allow screenshots what have you got to lose? Free promotion of ur shows? Lovingly made content? People sharing their favourite scenes? wow

Farewell, Funimation... | Tuesday, 04.02.24
Fellow anime fans, Funimation has officially discontinued today and is now lost media. Sadly, it didn't even last for at least 30 years (it was founded on May 9, 1994 by Gen Fukugana).
Any final thoughts you like to share on which anime was your all-time favorites or which benefits/merits it has over other leading anime services like HiDive, Sentai Filmworks, or Viz Media by any chance?

So, somehow, I am just now hearing about people turning against Sapnap because he moved to Kick. After looking up the controversy around kick, I have decided that I am going to continue streaming on kick. Why?
Because we in the LGBTQ+ community are so much more powerful than we think. If we band together, we can take over Kick and turn it into a safe space for our people, or at least create safe spaces within it (like we did with every other social media website). Just because Sapnap is streaming on there now doesn't mean he supports gambling. Most of the content on Kick has nothing to even do with gambling. As for our community, Sapnap's channel will always be a safe space for our people, no matter the platform. Not once have I ever seen or heard Sapnap say anything against us. He's always been an ally. If he wasn't, he wouldn't be friends with Karl (asexual) or Chris from Mr Beast's channel (MTF transgender). Hell, most of the creators on there are allies! The only reason that Kick seems like an unsafe place is because the people who got banned on youtube, twitch, etc are going over there and haven't been caught yet. The website and it's creators aren't bigoted, the hateful viewers are. Fortunately, us creators have the power to ban people from our chats, but it won't always be enough. That is why, as I said before, if we can get more LGBTQ+ people on Kick, then we can overpower those haters and make Kick a better place. Once we're powerful enough, we can force the people running Kick to make better rules and functions to protect us.
My channel will always be a safe-haven for anyone in the minorities, no matter the platform! LET'S START A FUCKING RIOT!

This has been on my mind so I just want to say: you aren't a bad person if you use streaming services.
Yes they have problems galore, and I will crow to the moon and back about those issues and the steady disappearance and decline of physical media, make no mistake. But I also want to make it clear that nobody is a bad person for using them. Sometimes, that's the best or only option for many people who don't have the means, space or accessibility to physical media, and even if that's not the case in every individual situation, that still doesn't mean someone is an awful, irredeemable person for using streaming services.
There are plenty of posts out there talking about the pitfalls, shitty policies, dangers, and all-around bullshit of the companies that run most streaming services,(hell, look at the fact the Writer's Strike happening right now is partially a result that streaming platforms weren't really a big thing back when the strike of 2007 happened and therefore became an easy loophole to exploit) and there's also a lot of advocacy for physical media. I reblog plenty of it. I just also felt like it might be important amid all my reblogging and my own ranting to just put it out there that I don't think anyone is a bad person for using those streaming services and platforms, and I think it helps to keep that in mind.

I am absolutely devastated by this news. Bandcamp's former workers and indie musicians will all be negatively impacted by this. I hope a new platform arises from this, but until then, many people's sources of income will be in limbo. My page focuses on goth music, but I hope that indie musicians and music fans of all genres come together during this time.

Episode 188: The Year in Fandom 2022
Continuing an end-of-year tradition, Flourish and Elizabeth review five big fandom-related trends they followed in 2022. Topics discussed include clashing norms between fans on different platforms, the increasing precariousness of the streaming space, brands doubling down on fandomand anti-fandom—in high-profile celebrity stories, and yes, of course, the collapse of Twitter. Plus: they read a letter from an artist in response to the previous episode on AI and fanworks.
