The Rook x Observant Reader got even longer. I’m not even talking the current word count which is 39k. I’m talking I have more idea to fit in the end so the entire theme of the fanfic is more wholistic. Yes, there are core themes in this like real novels or short stories. There’s even foreshadowing. I intentionally use story structure to enhance the reader’s experience. I make sure that there’s no scenes that are not there for a reason. If I could take it out of the story and it would still make sense, I’ve banished it to the scrap pile.
I have no idea how this happened. I’m as surprised as everyone else. I’ve been in shock for the past 3 hrs.
Some of these things I didn’t even plan until I looked a little closer and analyzed it and went “oh my god! The parallels!” You’ll get it once you read it.
I’m still in shock but I have to share because wtf. I didn’t plan any of this. It just happened and it’s smart

owen moving in with judd telling him 'that way when the demons come they gotta get through both of us'. owen sitting with judd at the back of the wedding and not leaving him alone in his pain in a moment where joy is culminating all around them that it's highlighting the absence of his own joy. carlos at his own wedding joining his mother and checking on her instead of dancing. marjan not worrying about a rushed wedding because she knows her people are gonna have her back. Tommy being taken care of. the heart of this story always being about who is seeing you through the hardest times. making it okay to know love amidst grief, to feel your weaknesses because you have people reminding you of where your head should be, taking your hand when you're falling or when you're scared to do something for your own good.

It should be a criminal offense if an insurance company is responsible for a delay in a policyholder's necessary health care.
Withholding prescribed treatments, even for just a day, can be anywhere from inconvenient to catastrophic for the victim. Medical providers may not withhold necessary treatment from any patient on any grounds, as it is their duty to provide it-- it should be justly illegal for any "middle man" to interfere with a medical provider's legal and ethical obligation to treat a patient.
Severity of the charge and its legal consequences should depend upon the scope of the offense (length of delay) and its consequences to the victim (impact on the person).
The testimonies of the victim, the pharmacy, and the medical provider who prescribed the treatment should be key considerations for the determination. Additional important testimony should come from the victim's other medical providers, housemates, family, educators/mentors, colleagues/coworkers, or employers.
The charge should become criminal record for the company. The company (perhaps the agent's office) should be fined per day delayed.
Some taxation can be applied; just to pay off the folks who do the filing, advocacy, testimony, processing. A hefty majority of the fine should be compensation owed to the victim.
If delays became a criminal charge on companies' records, then companies would have a strong motive to terminate agents who aren't performing with punctuality. It would become their best financial interest to invest only in timely agents who would, in turn, gain a best interest to invest only in timely subordinates.
I posit that insurance delays would wane significantly, resulting in more timely delivery of treatments to policyholders, and many people's qualities of life would improve drastically for it.

really actually kind of enjoy how the big lore moments are sort of quiet on a singular stream (or a small group!) instead of the events solely being the lore; i think there would be this hesitation to develop anything solo if the server reinforced this idea that Big Lore could only happen during scheduled events and days. instead the more narrative-progressing moments (take the baghera hybrid experiments revelation or the philza birdnapping for recent example) are very low-key and almost unhyped up— there’s no expectation for that kind of lore necessarily at the time which makes it more rewarding to experience as a viewer. big fan of how they do the events as player bonding time rather than serious narrative progression because it allows all the players (especially the ones who don’t engage in the rp side that much) to participate and get to know each another more; it’s very neat it’s really smart it’s nicely executed

i have been thinking for literal weeks about a conversation i had with a liberal in my life (identity withheld) because like the leaps of logic this guy was making is more fascinating to me the longer i think about them. conversation i had was based around politics. always a bad idea. and we got on the subject of why democrats lost. and you guys know i am firmly of the opinion that it was not just down to the candidate, but that this was an election where people wanted change and she was basically promising to be four more years of biden. and like as good as that sounds now obviously that’s clearly not what ANYONE wanted. and it made for an uninspiring candidate. and this guy. this guy still blames young people for not basically getting in line and voting for the party whoever that person may be. oh well say we ran someone like bernie sanders, he would have gotten 15% of the vote in florida. okay. we haven’t won florida in years and won’t again probably! florida is off the motherfucking board! why are we even trying to win florida!!!!!!! meanwhile people said years ago that trump was a joke candidate who would never win a primary and say what you want but the republican party coalesced around him because that’s what the rank and file of the party wanted. democrats are going to lose every presidential election we come to because they are running uninspiring candidates who are trying to persuade the odd moderate to come back to this party rather than coalescing around political figures people are actually excited by. and people STILL want to blame fucking chappell roan et al for losing. insanity. and yes i know this political commentary is months old and we have better things to talk about re trump but i truly think that if biden stepped down and we could have actually picked a candidate that maybe we wouldn’t be living in a hellscape and i’d really like the democrats to realize that before the next election maybe.

like i GET why ppl complain about papillon being too short cuz it IS if you were thinking of it as a standalone song............ but it's LITERALLY supposed to be the end piece to the entire fe3o4 trilogy it is THEE follow-up pay-off after approximately like. 40ish???? minutes ever since you click play on dash like papillon more than any other song in this third act feels the LEAST like it's supposed to be Its Own Song Slash Radio Play Marketable Single. also if it was longer it would just end up conforming to the same old regular degular pop song formula which a surprising amount of nswers have been complaining about nmixx doing anyways LOL and given how literally every single one of their songs is meant to be performable live in a substantially packed setlist............... i really don't blame them for going for shorter songs to perform either. i think there is something to be said for like the tiktokification of pop nowadays because i truly do believe that ppl's attention spans are genuinely shorter + the eternal mass consumption of media over and over and over or whatever. OKAY but when an artist/group actually tries to use the limits of that format to tell a story i guess it just ends up flying over ppl's heads so there's no "winning" with gp listeners idk! what if the linda martell show was 4 minutes long. what if yukika's i need a friend had a verse pre chorus chorus second verse pre chorus chorus bridge third chorus. what if the interludes on the velvet rope were 5 minutes long each. what if tinashe shy guy was a 10 minute long epic and it was still situated between X and bouncin'

I remember before I started Guardian, someone recommended it to me with a note that it tackles some of the same ideas as Tai Sui, but it ultimately comes to very different conclusions. And now having read the novel, I absolutely see what they meant.
While I was reading Guardian, there was one point where I honestly thought things might be building toward an ending where Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei do away with the reincarnation cycle and allow the souls of the dead to return to Chaos/true death. It's been a while since I read these bits, but I believe I recall some lines that could be read as implying that reincarnation (and the subsequent protection from Chaos that it entails) is on some level unnatural. The reincarnation cycle was something artificially created, and even gods were once meant to dissipate back into Chaos/nothingness when they died. There was all that stuff about how Kunlun's soul in particular wasn't even supposed to be put into the reincarnation cycle, which was part of why Zhao Yunlan was so willing to die with Shen Wei.
Given all that, and given I'm obsessed with Tai Sui, "let's just get rid of reincarnation and have the world accept true death/Chaos as its natural end" seemed like a logical conclusion, but that's not where things go at all. Instead, the reincarnation cycle is re-completed to keep running forever, and Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei live happily and immortally ever after as gods.
I think if you quoted "no one can enjoy themselves to the full at a banquet that never ends" to Zhao Yunlan, he'd laugh in your face and tell you that he very much can, actually. Then he'd probably drop some innuendo about what "banquet" he's enjoying in his eternal life.
Anyway, it's interesting that this is the second time I've read an earlier priest novel with such a direct contradiction to the themes of Tai Sui. Sha Po Lang buys into the "good king" myth by way of Chang Geng, and though it implies that Chang Geng's reforms are meant to ultimately pull power away from subsequent monarchs, that progressive anti-monarchy change still comes from the Special Boy Good Emperor. Meanwhile, Tai Sui has a much more ambivalent (at best) relationship with its monarchies, and its most morally upright character, Zhi Xiu, refuses to directly take over Wan when its monarchy crumbles and he's given the opportunity. A lot of the novel revolves around lauding common, powerless people and their collective ability to enact incredible change. Xi Ping is just some guy who happens to stumble his way into the power to change the world and tries his best (with Zhi Xiu's guidance) to make good on that responsibility. He's saved over and over by unremarkable common people like Wei Chengxiang and Tao-er-nainai. He's the opposite of some noble mastermind king guiding a nation in need of a leader.
In the same vein, Guardian ultimately upholds its reincarnation cycle and celebrates the immortal lives of Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan, just the opposite of Tai Sui's ending themes. It clings to a positive interpretation of the concept of eternal existence, and it does away with the forces of Chaos entirely. Not to mention, this is a setting with actual gods, ghosts, reincarnation, etc, whereas Tai Sui, despite being Xianxia, is surprisingly atheist in its approach to mythology.
This is just another way that Tai Sui seems to be priest's novel of "what if but actually." What if the self-destructive evil genius character was actually evil and actually destroyed himself? What if the world's toxic social structures were dismantled from the outside or fell apart from their own rot rather than being improved by Good Cops/Good Kings working from within? What if eternal existence was actually a bad thing that needed to be ended?
I just think it's neat.
