Sorry but I find it kind of annoying the way people on here sometimes talk about school and education like they can't believe someone wasn't excited to learn about literary analysis and math when they were 15. In my experience very few kids genuinely love school and that kind of learning environment and conditions. The problem isn't that a 15 year old hated reading idk Anna Karenina and talking abt symbolism, like I think we can all agree education system as a whole does not work, and very little blame should be put on kids but even if it was perfect someone is always going to hate school, the problem is when a person never grows out of that mindset, considers learning and analysis useless and keeps avoiding responsibility.

gen fic is a valuable type of fic with just as much capacity for sincere emotion and intimacy and exploration of interpersonal relationships as ship fic. it’s not just ‘fic with actual feelings in it (ship fic)’ and ‘fic with a concrete plot that focuses on physical events and is super serious but only about those physical events (gen fic)’ and I have no idea why even people trying to speak positively about gen fic tend to talk about it like this. like they can only compliment gen fic or find worth in it when there’s an excuse for it to exist and reason for romance not to be there (plot heavy, blah blah, super canon adherent, blah blah, specific type of fic trope that tends to make the inclusion of ships weird or difficult, blah blah, the stuff people say when they’re trying to be nice about gen fic).

that’s not the point and gen fic is so much more than that and i’ll happily die on that hill.

(edited to add: by ‘gen fic’ this post is NOT referring to rating. it is referring to fic that is not about and does not prominently feature romance, regardless of rating.)

The problem with Mut is that he is a MAME seme and that means he is both absolutely perfect (when he is not with his love interest before they get together) and then an absolute ass with his love interest (before they get together). Which creates an unpleasant dichotomy that makes me uncomfortable because it is basically 'people who are good to others but awful to you are just in love with you and will only get better if you trust them!' and like... I hate it.

As a frequent "ugh, fanon," person it's not that I don't like non-canonical character designs or interpretations as a concept. I love unique and creative ideas about fictional characters that are informed by canon but diverge from it in interesting ways that build upon the original vision! I almost never see this in fanon.

I am definitely okay! Just dealing with a frustrating transition in my job and I like to broadcast my woes over here lol. For the record, I tend to be overdramatic (and being a writer, that tends to come naturally, haha) so what I say is usually, like, the most theatrical version of what I could say. Part of coping for me is sounding like I should be up on a stage monologuing at an audience lol

You're right though that I aught not be trying to rush myself or anything. If I have the time and energy to create I will do it then. If I don't have the energy, it's because I need the rest.
