one of my favourite things about epic the musical is the reused sets and aspects. for example, the "i'm just a man" was introduced in the first saga, troy, and is still being used in recent and upcoming songs, because it's such an important concept and piece about odysseus and his journey. same goes for "man vs. monster" but it's from the same song. the cool thing is (in my humble opinion) is that in ruthlessness from the ocean saga, IS also a new aspect that is being played now. in BOTH "the underworld" and "monster" from the underworld saga ody sings "ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves..." and "[...] if ruthlessness is mercy"
and that's SO smart. like hello? introducing new moral values/views is so AAA.

Wasteland baby! is the most under appreciated of the Hozier albums and truly what an album to be released just before the pandemic what a song to release before the pandemic. During an uncertain time an album about not being alone in a wasteland the way most of the songs are about devotion, to the point of fault, to the point of personal harm, to the point of manipulation, about doing everything to be with this person even when it's detrimental to you both or even when it's a person you've made up in your head, in a year when we couldn’t go out and see each other. Hozier releases an album that puts the yearning for love in the loneliness of the pandemic into words a full year before the pandemic even happened and we don’t even really talk about it and that should be a crime.
True that love in withdrawal was the weepin' of me
That the sound of the saw must be known by the tree
god imagine hearing that in a pandemic and not going insane.

Hi Jonny. Were you at all inspired by A Question Of Balance by The Moody Blues for other things you’ve written? I ask because your reference to Melancholy Man in Thirteen Storeys prompted me to listen to the full album a while back and I feel like I find new parallels between the album and your other works with each listen. I’d also be very interested in any thoughts you have on the album. Thanks!
I mean, I grew up on my dad's 70s prog collection (my first gig at age 13 was Uriah Heep's 30th anniversary show), so Moody Blues were pretty formative for me, yeah. They weren't quite up there with Pink Floyd, Deep Purple or Uriah Heep, which were my favourites, but "Melancholy Man" specifically has always stuck with me, and its definitely found its way onto more than one of my writing playlists.

spent a month mashing two of my long term hyperfixations together into an AU, bone apple teeth
I wouldn't consider this a crossover as much as an inspired AU because autism brain drew parallels between the two narratives and I think it would be fun to explore the earlier years of the apocalypse, before the world is absolutely decimated (alongside many of the resources), before the fam loses Donnie and Raph, et cetera.
