This can be enabled separately for when your Mac is using its battery and when it’s connected to a power adapter. This allows your Mac to check for things like emails, calendar events, and iCloud updates while it’s asleep. You can also enable the Power Nap function. The next menu lets you set the time at which your Mac will go to sleep and wake up on the specified days. Use the drop-down menu that’s preset to Every Day to choose the specific days for which you want to set your sleep (or wake) timer. (You can also set an automatic wake timer by checking the box marked Start up or wake.) You can choose whether your computer will Shut Down or Restart. You can also schedule your sleep timer so your Mac automatically goes to sleep and wakes up at specific times.įrom System Preferences > Energy Saver, click the Schedule button on the bottom right of the window.Ĭheck the box marked Sleep to set a time at which your Mac will automatically go to sleep or shut down. macOS does a lot every night while your Mac isn’t being used and it is sleeping. The main reason for letting your Mac sleep instead of shutting it down is that your Mac can’t perform maintenance tasks during the night if you shut it down. (Note: You can’t set the Display sleep slider for longer than the Computer sleep slider when your computer goes to sleep, your display will, too.) Shutting Down Your Mac Keeps It From Running Maintenance Tasks. This turns your display off after being inactive for a set period of time.
Set your monitor’s sleep using the Display sleep slider.
This tells your computer to put itself into sleep mode after a set period of inactivity. Set sleep time using the Computer sleep slider (whether you have this option will depend on the version of macOS you’re using). You’ll see both of these options on the same screen.) (Note: If you’re on your iMac desktop, you won’t have multiple options, since your computer is always plugged into a power source. Each of these options has its own settings. If you’re using a Mac laptop, you’ll see two tabs: Battery and Power adapter. Go to System Preferences > Energy saver > Power adapter. Set your Mac’s sleep timerĬlick the Apple menu on the top left of your toolbar. You can also set a recurring schedule for your Mac to enter sleep mode. It’s possible to set your Mac to automatically start sleep mode after being inactive for a certain amount of time. Putting your Mac in sleep mode can help you save your battery life and get back to work quickly when you’re ready.

Jeffrey Gibson’s She Never Dances Alone celebrates Indigenous women, presenting a performance by Sarah Ortegon, a jingle dress dancer who carries forward the dance’s call for ancestral healing and protection. Jingle dress originated with the Anishinaabe (Ojibwea) people during the 1918 influenza pandemic and is traditionally performed by women. The rhythmic, kaleidoscopic visual impact of the video mirrors and replicates Ortegon’s form. This shimmering mass of movement visually dazzles, but also underscores how Indigenous women today take action to protect their communities, rallying for accountability in the movement for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two Spirit across the United States, Canada, and the world. Spend time with #MMIW, #MMIWG2S, #NoMoreStolenSisters for more information about this necessary call to accountability and action.
See She Never Dances Alone in full, as well as Gibson’s first video I Was Here, as part of our Art on the Stoop: Sunset Screenings series, showing each Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday through November 8, starting at 6pm. You can also see more of the artist's work in Jeffrey Gibson: When Fire Is Applied to a Stone It Cracks, on view inside the Museum through January 10.

At night, your computer screen displays a blue-colored light that is slightly different from the orange that indoor lights give off. It has been revealed that this aspect could slow down the process of falling asleep. One solution comes from Portable SunsetScreen, a utility that allows you to adjust the color tone of your screen. The app features easy-to-configure settings and provides you with a user-friendly interface. It features several display profiles that can be applied with just a few clicks. You can also set sunrise and sunset times if you want Portable SunsetScreen to automatically change the appearance of your desktop. Another advantage is the fact that it does not slow down your PC's performance while operating in the system tray. All in all, Portable SunsetScreen proves to be a smart addition to your collection of Windows apps. It can be useful for people who work late at night and want to change the screen color to help them fall asleep faster after completing their tasks. XP/Vista/7/8/8.1/10English1.39MB

Background and motivation behind SunsetScreen: In the evening and at night, computer screens are starkly blue compared to the 'natural' orange glow provided by indoor lighting. With SunsetScreen, it's easy to dim our screens to an orange-ey hue to match the colour of the indoor lighting we use. Additionally, scientific research has found that along with over-bright indoor lighting, over-bright screens can affect the production of melatonin - the chemical which helps us to turn off at night to get a restful sleep.
Programs such as F. lux partially solve the problem, but in the winter, I found the sunsets came too early. This caused F. lux to darken the screen early too. Just because it's dark outside early, that does not mean the human body clock revolves around the winter's schedule. Many, perhaps most people find considerable benefit to extra light during the day during the darker seasons, and if this extends to your laptop, tablet or computer screen, then we should allow that!
Morning larks, night owls and even those who work night shifts will benefit from using SunsetScreen because their sleep cycles are hours apart from each other. SunsetScreen can be tailored so you can set the sunset and sunrise times appropriately to match your sleep rhythm. We should also be able to define the colour of the filter by hue, saturation or brightness if need be.
This way, we can match the colour more precisely to the illumination by the light bulbs we have in our houses. Although dimming the amount of blue light is most important, the overall brightness may also be dimmed too if you so wish. Features include: Set the sunset time precisely. Set the sunrise time too. Choose by colour temperature or by HSB for a precise colour. Transition from one phase to the other gradually. Automatically resides in the tray so it keeps out of your way. Loads automatically at Windows startup if you wish.
Instantly turn off SunsetScreen if you need to do colour sensitive work. Choose from a range of presets, and reset to default if things go wonky.
Small, fast, elegant and easy to use interface in less than a megabyte. Isn't patent pending unlike something beginning with 'F' ;. History: v1. Also implemented trial version I have to eat too :. If you accept, your use of SunsetScreen is free of charge in exchange for safely using some of your device's resources, and only when you are not using your device.
You may turn this off from the Options window and no user data is ever collected. Please see our TOS for further information.
Also now there's an alternative way to have SunsetScreen on boot if the default way didn't work. Finally, you can now donate via Paypal, Bitcoin, Ethereum or Nano if you find SunsetScreen useful! Click the donate button in the main program to see the addresses.
This should now be fixed. SunsetScreen should also now have full support for multiple monitors. Extra features include new and improved custom hotkeys functionality, Options window, and numerous tweaks. This was originally added to act upon any unforseen changes back to the default screen's colour from the OS, but affected systems are relatively rare.
See the docs though if you find the screen occasionally goes back to default when it shouldn't as you can set the 'periodicallyUpdateScreen' parameter to true to bypass this problem.
Finally, because of the maturity of SunsetScreen, by default, "Load on Win startup" is now ticked. Also included masterBrightnessIncrement setting for power users. Also, K Moonlight is the default colour temp on first use now. Reinstalling the app will now automatically close the older version.
You can still close the app with the Exit button if you wish. Bug fixes in this release are: Easily resetting Windows XP is now possible without closing the program first. The button to reset that current colour to default is now called "Default" instead of "Reset" to differentiate it from the main "Reset The hour clock format is now default again.
Editing a single line of code did the trick. I can also now reproduce the errors on my setup, so if any future errors do crop up which I doubt , I'll be onto them in minutes. Also fixed crash when trying to change the Delay until sunset which only appeared in 1. Also overhauled system for expanding the colour range until you do, certain options are now greyed out or restricted for sanity's sake.
Finally, colours are more numerically precise. Simply look for the bright orange button that will appear when you try, click it, then click Yes to the prompt, and then reboot, and voila. Resetting to factory settings also now doesn't affect the "Load on Win Startup" setting. Also fixed bug when occasionally certain Windows prompts may turn the screen back to normal and SunsetScreen didn't respond afterwards.

Free Blue Light Filters For Desktop Windows PC, Apple Mac And Chrome Browser
Tumblr media
We all know that the light emitted by the computer screen is harmful and especially during the night time, as most of the computer users complete their work at home at night, and also those who like to watch movies, they prefer to watch them at night is not only this, but even those who fuse to play games online prefer to play at night. But it is dangerous that their eyes receive direct damage Hedda if the goggles are not used to filter the blue rays emitted from the computer screen, in that time the eye makes a great effort not to allow the passage of blue rays and this is the cause of eye fatigue and redness, but sad that the eye health.
not replacable. For the latter, the Professional Blog shares six most popular computer programs that help filter blue rays.
Windows 10 Night Light
If you are using Microsoft Windows 10, there is no need to download any additional screen color filtering software because there is Night Light leopard technology available in the system without the need to notice it is good enough for everyday use.
Iris mini
A beautiful free eye protection program that can wake up on Windows, Linux, Mac. It can reduce the color temperature of the screen and also reduce the brightness of the screen, the other great thing about brightness. When your screen is working on the flashing bit all the time. This is usually a high-frequency flicker and we do not detect it, but the program can reduce the frequency so as not to cause eye strain.
Tumblr media
SunsetScreen
When you work on your computer in the evening or in a room with strong lighting, the screen brightness is usually adjusted to the amount of light you need. If you always work in the same place at the same time, SunsetScreen is very useful for automatically managing the brightness level according to the time of day.
Tumblr media
The beauty of this program allows you to change the time when the brightness of the screen is increased or decreased and adjusted from maximum to minimum levels as well as the speed of transition. You can also create different profiles for different days or times that indicate the hour, minute, and second when the sun sets and also at sunrise, so that the screen brightness is adjusted with absolute precision.
f.lux
This program was impressed by the use of it, it adapts to the color of your screen and the amount of light in the room space. It is one of the smart programs where it highlights its possibilities even more according to the quality of the computer. If you download it, connect your computer to the Internet in order to determine the geographical location in order to adjust the geographical settings and your time zone, the program needs to coordinates in order to adapt to your time system such as longing and Sunset Other I'll let you discover.
Redshift
Redshift adjusts the color temperature according to the location of the sun. Different color temperature is set during the day and night. The color temperature goes smoothly between changing time periods to allow your eyes to adjust slowly. Fahd program through my experience in the system of Linux when downloading it adjusts the temperature automatically without the need to manually set the condition that the computer is connected to the Internet so that the program to determine your geographical location.
Tumblr media
G.lux
This program is from the family of f.lux, which we have already referred to in this article, but the difference this program is as an add-in browser Google chrome does the same functions of the previous program f.lux only in the browser interface.
Tumblr media
CareUEyes
Free software for a limited period It is a powerful program in filtering and adjusting the color temperature of the screen. CareUEyesf can automatically filter the blue light and make the screen look warmer and comfortable for the eyes, so that your eyes don't feel tired. This program comes with several presets that adjust the color temperature, brightness and many other features that come with it.

Hello everyone! As a 2nd year B.A. student majoring in literature, I thought I would give some tips to other people about essay writing in a literary context, especially for stuff other than the outlines, as a lot of studyblrs already give very good tips about outlines. I am available to answer any question you may have about this guide, so please don’t hesitate! This guide will be a step-by-step walkthrough on how to prepare and write literary essays. Find the first part on how to prepare essays here.
5. general dos and don’ts in literary essay writing
Don’t summarize or list facts about what happens in your quote. Explain the signification of your excerpt using literary devices and tie it back to your topic or subtopic. Your literary essay aims to interpret the work, not to simply summarize it.
Do introduce your quotes by contextualizing them. Something like “At X point, Y said to Z: ‘[Your quote]’” is sufficient in most cases, anything more is dabbling in summary territory.
Do ALWAYS CITE YOUR SOURCES. If you use external references to guide your reasoning, your teacher wants to know about it. Don’t read things that you’re not allowed to use, because your brain will retain the ideas even if you don’t want to, which might lead to accusations of plagiarizing. Note: This does not apply to a lot of high-school level essays but it often happens in college and university.
Don’t do sweeping generalizations and inaccurate analogies. Phrasings like “Since the dawn of time” or “For as long as man has existed” should be banned from your essay. Generalizations should be avoided as much as possible since you want to produce a nuanced and accurate analysis. Also, avoid cliché phrases as much as possible.
Don’t use the words “prove” or “demonstrate” in your essays. You are the one who is proving and demonstrating stuff, your quotes only show, illustrate, reveal, signify, suggest, etc.
Do use precise literary vocabulary when useful, but never use words you don’t know the exact meaning of — the thesaurus is your friend as long as you know what you’re saying.
Do use linking vocabulary and sentences between your paragraphs and ideas to help your text flow. No need to use them systematically, it feels forced and awkward, but inserting one here and there helps your text feel easier to read.
Don’t use past or future verb tenses in essays, or avoid them as much as possible. The time of a book is totally separate from the time of reality, so you don’t need to talk about it as something that happened in the past, you can present the events in the present tense.
Do follow the formatting conventions specific to your school, faculty, or department, in accordance with the preference of your teacher, especially regarding references. Not all places use MLA references.
6. write
When writing literary essays at home, give yourself plenty of time. Here are some tips to help making intensive writing sessions less tedious:
Drink water, tea, or herbal tea to keep yourself hydrated. Note: Tea won’t actually make you need to pee more often unless you are not used to drinking it.
Use a Pomodoro timer or another kind of study timer to help keep yourself focused, take frequent breaks, stretch, walk around a bit, you can even exercise during longer breaks if you feel like it.
Have healthy snacks if needed. Avoid very sugary and very salty snacks.
Keep a thesaurus and a dictionary close to you so you can easily search keywords and you don’t jam on a word. Physical dictionaries can be better tools than online ones depending on which ones are available in your language. If you don’t own a physical dictionary, you can most likely borrow one in your city or your school’s library.
If you feel like your outline is not as good as you thought it was, it’s normal. You can make small sentence tweaks to make it all hold together better, but don’t start over or you’ll lose precious time on a quest for perfection which has no end. You’ll be fine. You can do this.
Find a comfortable, well-lit corner. If you’re going to spend at least 5 hours sitting at the same spot, you don’t want it to cause you back, neck, or shoulder pain, or headaches and eye strain because of poor lighting.
If you are writing at night on a computer, use a screen blue-light dimmer like f.lux or SunsetScreen to reduce eye strain.
Breathe.
You can do this, I believe in you! 😊 Whether or not you are 100% satisfied of your mark, you’re accomplishing something just by doing this assignment and you deserve a solid pat in the back for doing it.
7. review
I am not the best versed in all languages to recommend you the specific tools and techniques you should use to review your text, but here are some personal tips that might help you:
Make sure that you have written all the parts of your outline and didn’t forget any points. This can easily happen when doing essays with subtopics and it’s a bummer when it happens because you’re losing points on both structure and content.
Scan for repetitive sentences, too long sentences, or confusing sentences. Reword, break into smaller sentences, or replace where necessary. You need to put yourself in the frame of mind of someone who doesn’t know or only vaguely knows the subject of your essay and wonder if that hypothetical person would understand what you mean and would actually believe in your argument.
Review your punctuation, especially around quotes, footnotes and your bibliography.
Use whatever re-reading method works best for you to check for grammar mistakes.
Don’t let doubt set in, especially if you have perfectionist tendencies. No essay is perfect, yours is no exception. Rewriting your entire essay at this point would not only be counter-productive, but would also most likely result in a worst result than what you have now because you’d feel pressured by the lack of time.
8. additional resources
Look up if your university or college’s library offers essay writing classes. A lot of them do.
Most universities and colleges also provide an MLA guide, which they sometimes offer for free online.
Also check if they have a revising or tutoring service if grammar is something you have a lot of struggles with. Most of them are free.

9. reward yourself
Writing an essay is an accomplishment in itself. Don’t wait for your grade to reward yourself for pulling through this, especially considering your grade will not necessarily reflect all the time and effort you put into your essay! Treat yourself to a nice restaurant, do yourself a spa day, take a day off, buy something small that brings you joy, whatever makes you feel nice! It doesn’t have to cost money either, you can just have a friend over and watch nice movies together or whatever you’d like to do. :)
I hope this was useful to you in some way! If you need to go back, the first part is here.

Speaking directly to the camera, artist Howardena Pindell recounts her experiences of racism and sexism as a Black woman in the United States. At times, she shifts to play the role of a white woman, gaslighting Pindell and clamining she is “paranoid.” This groundbreaking video critiques both institutionalized racism, and the mostly white feminist movement of the time. In 1972, Pindell cofounded A.I.R. Gallery, one of the first artist-run spaces for women in the U.S., and Free, White and 21 was first shown in 1980’s Dialectics of Isolation: An Exhibition of Third World Women Artists of the United States, curated by Ana Mendieta. This intensely personal and political film, whose title comes from a rebellious catchphrase often heard in Hollywood movies of the 1930s and 1940s, was a stark departure from the abstract works on paper for which Pindell was primarily known.
See Free, White and 21 in full as part of our Art on the Stoop: Sunset Screenings series, showing each Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday through November 8, now starting at 5pm.

By Dr. Holly Thompson
Sleep is vital to radiant health and well-being. Even though we don’t yet understand everything that sleep does for us, we know it plays a major role in maintaining our, mental, emotional, and physical health.
Memory and Brain Health
While you sleep, your brain is busy. The glymphatic system is a newly discovered waste clearance system in our brain and central nervous system. It is similar to the lymphatic that does the same thing in the rest of our bodies.
The glymphatic system works mainly while we sleep to remove toxic substances and waste products as well as deliver nutrients to our brains.
This may be why sleep plays such an important role in memory. Researchers at Harvard Medical School have found that adequate sleep dramatically improves the ability to learn a new task and consolidate memories. It spurs creativity.
It also contributes to emotional stability and good decision making skills.
Lack of sleep negatively affects mood, motivation and judgment and is implicated in depression, anxiety, irritability, and other mood disorders.
Physical Health
There are so many physical benefits to sleep (see the following):
Your immune system depends on enough sleep to function at it’s best.
Sleep is when your body heals and repairs itself, helping to curb inflammation.
Long-term sleep deprivation is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, strokes, high blood pressure, and kidney disease.
Because sleep is important for regulation proper blood sugar, chronic sleep deprivation is implicated in diabetes.
Sleep is needed for proper hormone balance.
Sleep is also a major factor in weight gain. When the body is not getting adequate sleep, the hunger and satiety hormones get out of kilter. You guessed it: the hunger hormone, ghrelin, levels go up while the satiety (signaling you are full) hormone, leptin, goes down. The result: your appetite signals are skewed and you are more hungry and probably are going to eat more than you need to.
Quality of Life
Everyone knows that you just plain feel and look better when you are sleeping well. Turns out, you are more productive, less accident prone, and live longer as well. It can be hard to get enough sleep!
Sleep deprivation is a major problem in our country. But before you go reaching for a sleep aid (some of which are suspected of interfering with the glymphatic system along with a host of other side effects), please give some serious effort to proven lifestyle changes that aid the sleep process.
First of all, you need to make time for sleep. That means 7-9 hours every night. It works best if you can go to bed and get up roughly the same time every day. Our bodies like their sleep, like their meals, on a regular schedule. A lot of health gurus recommend a 10pm bedtime and a 6 am wakeup, but this is a guideline and you may need to adjust it by an hour or two for your lifestyle.
Insomnia
Many people get into bed but can’t get to sleep. Others may fall asleep right away, but then wake up and then can’t get back to sleep. And the worst part of this is that it tends to be the same night after night. The sleep pattern is off.
You have probably heard most of the usual recommendations about eating earlier, avoiding upsetting topics at night, making time to wind down, making sure your bedroom is completely dark and not too hot. These are all great.
Stress reduction techniques such as meditation, time in nature, warm baths can also make a big difference.
Some recent research has shown that light plays a major role in how our brains and sleep hormones function.
One of the best ways to help reset the pattern is to get outside, morning light as soon as possible after you wake up. Stay outside as long as you can, but at least for a few minutes. This begins to shift the sleep/wake hormones into a more normal pattern.
The blue light that is emitted from electronic devices (phones, computers, televisions) can also disrupt our sleep/wake cycles and cause insomnia. The current recommendation is to avoid all screen time for two hours before bed. If this is not doable for you, be sure to put your phone on the “night shift” setting and download software that greatly diminishes the blue light coming from your computer. Flux https://justgetflux.com/is the one I use on my Mac or you can get SunSet Screen http://www.skytopia.com/software/sunsetscreen/) for your PC. Both of these apps are free and easy to install.
If these measures don’t help or help only a little, acupuncture and Chinese medicine can help, and without weird side effects. As always in Chinese medicine, one size does NOT fit all. There are many time test3ed formulas that really help sleep, but they must be fitted to the pattern of disharmony. There are formulas for difficulty getting to sleep, difficulty staying asleep, difficulty getting back to sleep, nightmares, disturbing the sleep, hot flashes and night sweats waking you, etc.
Re-establishing a healthy and restorative sleep pattern is one of the best things you can do for your health. Click here to see how I can help!

5 Common Causes of Dark Circles Beneath the Eyes
Tumblr media
Dark circles beneath the eyes are common and treatable. Photo by Alexandru Zdrobău on Unsplash (edited)
Did you know there are several explanations for those dark circles beneath your eyes other than the lack of sleep assumption? Although fatigue is a common proponent of under eye darkness, you may be suffering for another reason. Dark circles are usually no cause for alarm, though if symptoms worsen over time it is best to see your doctor.
Continue reading below to learn about more common causes of dark circles beneath the eyes.
1. Screen Time
The work we do in this digital age has turned our eyes ever increasingly to the computer screen. Many people spend a large portion of their day straining their eyes on their computer, phone, or tablet. Our eye muscles work hard as our eyes focus and re-focus on and off screens. Computer vision syndrome (CVS) is defined as the pain and strain caused by overexposure to screens. According to WebMD:
Research shows that between 50% and 90% of people who work at a computer screen have at least some symptoms (of CVS).

In addition to headaches, back pain, blurred vision, and eye irritation, the strain from screens can cause dark circles. Our muscles are made of tiny red blood cells, so when we strain them these cells move off track and pool around areas of stress. Since the skin of our eyelids is relatively thin, it is easy to see the red blood cells migration, appearing as a darker tint underneath the eyes.
If you have the suspicion your under eye circles are related to screen exposure, there are things you can do immediately. Start by changing your computer to eye friendly settings.
The brightness of your screen should match your environment. It is best to not be directly in front of a window or light source but to the side. Floor lamps are great for lighting the room at night since your screen should be darker as a smooth transition for sleep. Blue light from screens can cause various eye issues, therefore, warmer colors such as orange or red are encouraged. There are settings for warmth under your computer display settings. (For Microsoft Windows these settings can be found in the Control Panel. Apple Computers display settings are in System Preferences.)
There are also screen filter applications you can download to your computer to aid even more in your eye comfort efforts, such as f.lux for Mac OS or SunsetScreen for Windows.
Make sure to give your eyes many breaks throughout the day by looking away from your screen for at least 20 seconds at a time.
2. Age
As we age our skin becomes thinner as collagen levels and elasticity decrease. The blood vessels beneath the skin become more apparent and dark circles may appear. To test if age is causing your dark circles, gently stretch the skin under your eyes. If it appears darker, you most likely have collagen loss. There are many things you can do to improve the health and vitality of aged skin.

Rejuvenate by Replenishing from the inside. This includes drinking plenty of water and eating foods rich in antioxidants and Omega-3′s such as berries and fish. Lean proteins such as eggs are also known to promote collagen production.
Rejuvenate with skin tightening DIY treatments. There are many spa treatments you can do at home to tighten the skin around your eyes. Lemon juice contains Vitamin C and is a great natural remedy for promoting collagen and restoring elasticity. Dilute freshly squeezed lemon juice with water for a refreshing facial treatment. Allow the mixture to air dry and gently wash off after 10 minutes.
Apply pro-healing topicals. Oxygenetix Hydro Matrix healing ingredients include Hyaluronic Acid to bind moisture from the air, plumping and rejuvenating the skin. Ceravitae® promotes cellular turnover to heal the skin and create a more youthful appearance. Additionally, the aloe vera in Hydro Matrix contains malic acid which is known to improve skin elasticity.
3. Allergies
If you suffer from nasal congestion due to allergies your dark circles may be allergic shiners. When the body is allergic to something the body releases histamine, creating blood flow and inflammation in the affected area so the immune system chemicals can do their job. The dilation of blood vessels causes congestion, an itchy throat, and irritated eyes. Nasal congestion swells the veins underneath the eyes creating a dark tint. This can also happen from nasal congestion due to the flu or a cold. Healthline lists types of common nasal allergies that can cause allergic shiners:
an allergy to certain foods
indoor allergens, such as dust mites, pet dander, cockroaches, or mold
outdoor allergens, such as tree, grass, ragweed pollen, also known as seasonal allergies or hay fever
cigarette smoke, pollution, perfumes, or other irritants that can make allergy symptoms worse
There are many things you can do for nasal congestion relief. Hot compresses and steam do wonders for loosening the build-up. Heat some water on the stove and gently inhale the steam from a distance. For more severe cases there are many antihistamines available for allergies.

To keep your allergies at bay keep your environment clean of dust, mold, and pollen. Close doors during months you have allergies, using the A/C if needed. Keep the air in your home fresh with a humidifier or air purifier. Try to resist rubbing those itchy eyes as it only makes allergic shiners worse!
4. Genetics
Genetics play a large role in the likelihood of having dark circles beneath our eyes. Those with darker complexions more commonly have darker pigmentation under the eyes. Those with thin eyelid skin show blood vessels underneath more easily. Some even inherit eye sagging that can cause shadows to cast underneath the eyes, creating the appearance of dark circles. Although there is no way to prevent hereditary dark circles under the eyes, there are things we can do to lighten their appearance.
1. Get injectibles to fill in the hollow eye and promote collagen production. Oxygenetix Global Medical Advisory Board member Dr. Rivkin from Los Angeles, CA, practices a noninvasive Non-Surgical Blepharoplasty for under eye circles.
Dr. Rivkin “uses an injectable filler to even out the plane beneath the eye, filling in the depression between the cheek and the eyelid. This eliminates the shadow, which creates the darkness and improves the appearance of protruding lower lids. Dr. Rivkin uses Restylane, Belotero or Juvederm for this non-surgical blepharoplasty procedure.”
The injectibles promote collagen production, showing results long after the procedure.
2. Get a chemical peel to reduce pigmentation. Oxygenetix Global Medical Advisory Board member, Dr. Rabia Malik, offers an Eye Revive Treatment at her practice in London. The Eye Revive Treatment addresses fine lines, wrinkles, and dark circles.
This treatment incorporates the use of a Superficial alpha hydroxy acid peel, and is safe and effective for use around the delicate eye area. Initial application of the peel solution is followed by application of a customised serum containing a mixture of antioxidants and peptides to address your individual skin concerns.

Heather Brannon, MD tells Very Well Health that Alpha Hydroxy Acids work as an exfoliant explaining,
“They cause the cells of the epidermis (the top layer of the skin) to become "unglued" allowing the dead skin cells to slough off, making room for regrowth of new skin. Alpha hydroxy acids may even stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.“
3. Conceal with an air permeable/breathable foundation. Oxygenating Foundation is formulated with pro-healing ingredients and recommended by plastic surgeons and dermatologists as a proven, safe solution for immediate post-procedural skin as well as everyday wear. The aloe vera base cools and soothes the compromised skin while the pigments camouflage any redness or dark skin. The beauty of Oxygenating Foundation is that it is buildable so you can achieve the desired coverage by reapplying every 30-60 seconds. Oxygenating Foundation allows oxygen uptake, leaving your skin in optimal repair.
5. Sun Overexposure
When we don’t protect ourselves from the sun’s harmful rays, our skin ages faster. Premature wrinkling, sagging skin, and discolorations are all signs of sun overexposure. Sun damaged skin underneath the eyes can appear darker as the skin loses elasticity. Blood vessels shown through frail skin creates a dark tint. However, dark circles due to sun overexposure are easy to prevent. Here are some easy tips to protect your eyes from sun rays:
1. Wear an SPF on your face every day. Most sunscreens are filled with harmful toxins that permeate the bloodstream. Use a breathable SPF like Oxygenetix Oxygenating Foundation offering an SPF 30. The foundation is transfer and water-resistant, ensuring you are protected throughout the day. All ingredients in Oxygenetix products are safe for the sensitive eye area.
2. Wear sunglasses with UV protection. Regardless of how sunny or cloudy it seems outside, UV rays can do damage to our eyes any time of day. Gary Heiting, OD told All About Vision:
Look for sunglasses that protect you from 99 to 100 percent of both UVA and UVB light. This includes those labeled as "UV 400," which blocks all light rays with wavelengths up to 400 nanometers. (This covers all of UVA and UVB rays.)

3. Wear a brimmed hat. A hat will protect you from UV rays that may hit the eyes above your sunglasses. Hats offer an extra level of protection for your face and eyes.
4. Treat sunburns and overexposed skin immediately. When your skin feels tight or sensitive after a little too much sun exposure, be sure to soothe it immediately so the skin stops burning. Aloe vera is most widely used for burns, cooling the skin instantly. Read our article on Aloe Vera: The Plant of Immortality HERE to learn more about what this miracle plant can do for you.
