i'm coming back i guess

well, i've gone thru the journey of being angry my artworks have been given away to AI bots, realizing that if you can search up a blog or piece on g**gle: it has already been scraped.

I've been posting art on the internet since like 1998 so i've accepted that once its on the internet, there's a pretty good chance its going to be stolen for something-or-other. if someone wants it bad enough they'll edit out your watermarks and use your art for their t-shirts or instagram post or youtube thumbnails. and thats even in the absence of bots!

anyway i'm literally drowning since twitter died, i am trying to build back up but that kinda thing takes time idfk. all this to say i'm gonna start posting here again, shaded and at a low DPI. so you can just know if you care to see my drawings at full size & quality there's always my patreon. T^T im sorry~

A Kim Jung Gi Redraw.

When I practice drawing, I always use as a reference a Kim Jung Gi illustration or sketch. I will go through his instagram and just try… really try to copy or I guess interpret his detailed and unique sketches in my own way.

He might be gone, but his art and talent will never be forgotten… People like me and certainly more out there will continue to be inspired by his work and use him as a guide and aspire to reach even half of his level!

I'm having trouble with creating an audience and I'm barely getting any traction. Does anyone know a place where I can post my art and be noticed?

Most social media apps don't have 'specific' areas like Reddit, so it's hard to get traction. But on the other hand, subreddits are too niche and I can't drive people to see my TFLOC stuff.

So Netflix is releasing this animated movie but here’s the thing - all backgrounds are done in AI. No actual BG artists were hired or credited for this work. 

And here’s the kicker - I gave them too much credit. I realized that not even the AI users are credited apparently. 

Check this out:

I know it’s tempting, but please don’t hate-watch this thing. Numbers equal profit even if the people watching are just doing it to mock. Don’t give Netflix and other studios even more incentive to fire more animators and replace them with machines trained on their work and skill. Hilariously, the excuse used is ‘there aren’t enough artists’. That’s not true - there are more than enough artists, but the real issue is that no one wants to pay a living wage. Here’s a short video about the reality of animation in Japan. 

The biggest winners in this equation at the end of the day are the AI infrastructure owners - owners of Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, etc. Do not feed this machine, it creates more monopolization of entire industries, raises a powerful few and dehumanizes the rest.

EDIT: a lot of people are unsure what the anime’s called - it’s The Dog and the Boy.

BIG PSA: if you're an artist, I wouldn't recommend using @inprnt . If you already have, archive all your work until this is resolved. They aren't giving satisfactory responses (if any) or being clear why many of us aren’t receiving payments until MONTHS after their ETA for balance withdrawals, and only respond after numerous emails, if they ever do.

If you sell a print on @inprnt as of summer 2023, you'll have to wait 30 days until the money appears in your site balance, and then potentially up to 4 MONTHS for your withdrawal request to appear in your paypal account. As a reminder, the site's service terms still say withdrawal requests "should take" 3-10 business days.

If you're a supporter of artists, I'd recommend not buying prints from @inprnt. They need to explain what is going on

this all being said, I am no longer offering prints on @inprnt until they come clean or this issue is taken care of.

I’m not a “brand account”

Please interact with me. I’m Bex. I am just one person making things. (sometimes my sister helps out too- she is paid don’t worry). I’ve seen push-back against interacting with brands on here, and that’s totally fair! Fuck Wendy’s, or whatever. I’m just a bit concerned that some folks might take that to mean any business- no! Support small businesses! Support artists! Support charities! Support non-profits! I blaze posts sometimes because reach is important, because I am selling things. I can guarantee any money I make goes towards me (and my sister) paying rent, eating food and occasionally buying nice things (usually from other artists).
