So I’ve been pretty quiet about the Annabeth casting between work, school, doctor who and MCR, the Percy Jackson show has kind of taken a back bench. I think it’s actually for the best because it gave me time to put my thoughts into words. Plain and simply, if you’re violently upset about Annabeth being black, you’re racist. Look, I was pretty disappointed I wouldn’t be seeing her angry grey eyes and blonde curls in action too, at first but as I thought about it the better it sat with me. The whole troupe (Uncle Rick loves breaking character troupes) that she absolutely decimated was the “dumb blonde”. Now a days, the dumb blonde thing has gone to the wayside, it was popular in the 90s and in the 2000s when Rick was writing the books but not so much anymore. HOWEVER, there is a new troupe (stereo type) that is taking a very disappointing foothold in our society. The loud angry black girl. By giving this role to Leah Jefferies (who I’m sure was perfect in auditions) he is preserving the spirit of Annabeth Chase for today’s audiences. If a little black girl can see this girl on screen be reserved, intelligent, and a calculating leader they will be getting representation that they need and deserve. That’s just my 2 cents and if you don’t like it well no one forced you to read it.

The reason calling women “females” isnt okay is the same reason calling black people “blacks” or trans people “transgenders” isn’t okay.

Notice how the missing word is “people”. When you take off that word and change the term from a noun to an adjective, you strip the humanity from the term.

“Female” isn’t a noun, just like “black” and “transgender” aren’t nouns. Female what? Female human? Female frog? It could be anything.

You aren’t calling women “females” because it’s sCiEnTiFiCaLLy aCuRaTe. You just don’t see them as people whose humanity is worth acknowledging.

But I know this little grammar lesson will probably go right over the heads of anyone it’s actually targeted at - seeing as y’all can’t grasp the concept of pronouns I don’t really expect you to understand adjectives.

Happy disability pride month!

Long story short, I’m a Black autistic nonbinary person who’s recently been diagnosed with c-ptsd after an s.a last year in an abusive relationship. I’ve been experiencing severe panic attacks and a loss in verbal communication which have made masking and working consistently with the public very difficult! I’m asking for help as I’m attempting to get registered for classes so I can go back to school this fall which will allow me to find a job that can better accommodate my disabilities.
