“We Are Being Pushed To Our Deaths! We just left a devastating meeting with the government, the Commissioner of Across, and UNHCR. The message was clear, terrifying, and final: the government does not want us queer refugees in this camp. We were told to leave. Not tomorrow. Not after resettlement. Now. They said: 'what are you still doing here? You were already sent away.' They said: 'we don't want to see your minority group here again.' They said: 'we have the same laws as where you came from.' That means laws that criminalize LGBTQ people, with punishments like life imprisonment and even death. It means no protections, no rights, and no place for us. The government's 'solution' is to dump us in a nearby city already unstable with war and poverty. A city where we have no shelter, no food, no security, and no protection from the homophobia that follows us. We are being erased. We are over 370 LGBTIQ refugees, if not 400 including kids in this camp. We are being marked for removal, not relocation. And we know what that means. We are being pushed into danger, into silence, into death. And still, we asked, 'can we stay in this camp, under any terms?' because here at least we are together. Here, we still watch out for one another. But they said no. They want us gone. Not just out of the camp, but gone. This goes against the UN's own promises. It goes against basic human rights. We are pleading with everyone around the world especially the queer community. Don't let them disappear us. Don't let us be silenced like this. We are queer. We are refugees. We are human. And if the world turns away now, it may be too late. Urgent update from May 14th: I just left another hearing - the government has given us 10 days to vacate or they threatened to forcefully remove us at gunpoint. All I can say is - we aren't going anywhere yet. Because we have nowhere to go. - Phil”

Right now, we are a group of transgender refugees in a camp in Africa, struggling to survive. We barely have access to food, medication, or basic necessities. Many of us are suffering from H.pylori infections due to unsafe drinking water and poor sanitation. We are also battling typhoid and malaria without access to proper medical care. On top of this, transphobia within the refugee camp prevents us from working or securing shelter, we are forced to sleep outside because we lack enough shelter to accommodate us which isn’t safe . Transgender individuals in refugee camps face extreme violence, discrimination, and lack of access to healthcare. Many are forced into unsafe living conditions, denied basic rights, and left vulnerable to abuse.

No one should have to live in fear because of their identity. We must demand urgent action to protect transgender refugees, ensure safe shelters, and on push for policies that uphold their dignity and rights. Stand up for Transgenders🏳️‍⚧️💪

It has been a week and two days since we were brutally attacked. Our shelters our tents, the only homes we had were demolished, many of them set on fire. As I’ve shared in previous updates here, we were severely beaten by a homophobic local community for one simple reason: being LGBTIQ+.

We were forced to flee for our lives, leaving behind what little we had. Now, we are sleeping in the compound of a nearby police station, hoping it provides some level of safety. But even here, safety is not guaranteed.

We sleep on the bare ground without any bedding or mosquito nets, and many of us have fallen sick with malaria. We live in constant fear that the attackers will return. On top of this, we have no food or clean water, and our situation is becoming increasingly desperate.

@ashleymilesphil is part of a group of LGBTQI+ refugees in East Africa. Laws there criminalize being LGBTQ+, and in their refugee camp, hate crimes, lack of resources, injury, and illness are common. Food is expensive and they need support!

Food, medicine, water, and other supplies (like for shelter against weather and mosquitoes) are difficult to get, but they also struggle to access sanitary products, especially for their lesbian community members.

So please, if you can, donate! Even a little bit will be helpful, because if many people donate a little, it adds up to a lot! I’m sure you know sanitary products are expensive, especially since they have to be bought often.
