All Night Libraries
Could be so cool to have all night sensory friendly libraries, with nice warm soft lighting, and cute comfy whimsical furniture, art and plants. Where people could just go and read all night, hang with friends and even sleep there in the available rest spaces like hammocks or a little capsule hotel in the library. Very lunarpunk. Would call mine the Moonlight Library

Here's some reminders!
-Public library cards in the United States of America are free, $0, the overwhelming majority of the time, as long as you can prove your identity and your address
-If you cannot prove your address (you're experiencing homelessness or you just moved, etc), there may be a way around that to get you a free library card anyway, at least temporarily, possibly for a year or more
-If you lose your library card, many many many library systems will replace it for free and many others will do so for $1 or $2
-Many library systems are going fee or fine free as long as you return the book in good condition
-Public library systems in the US are not rolling in cash, generally speaking
-Library systems can only go fee or fine free if they are well-funded by other sources, so if your local library system charges late fees or card replacement fees and you don't like that, don't yell at the librarians - bother your elected officials instead and tell them you want them to give more funding to your local library

➻ Yandere calculating librarian! who'd definitely know whenever a person enters or leaves the library he works on.
➻ Yandere calculating librarian! who has memorized the thousands of book decorating the bookshelves.
➻ Yandere calculating librarian! who'd like to anotate about the regulars' schedules & favorite genders.
➻ Yandere calculating librarian! who'd have many pages written about you who he'd unconsciously filled about everything you pick, what you're wearing and which books seemed to had been your favorites.
➻ Yandere calculating librarian! who'd imagine many outcomes to whatever conversation he wants to create with you.
➻ Yandere calculating librarian! who'd certainly be surprised when he realizes his liking for you and finally takes his time to read everything he has on his notebook.
➻ Yandere calculating librarian! who'd tries his best to ignore his mind's bad comments about himself when he gets the courage to talk to you on the counter one time you came to give back and take some other books.
➻ Yandere calculating librarian! whose mind immediately melts when he hears your sweet voice finally saying more than good morning/night and thanks.
➻ Yandere calculating librarian! who'd crave to hear more of you, more about you, or even you reading him a book.
➻ Yandere calculating librarian! who'd tell you the news that to now borrow a book you need to leave more information about yourself. Like where you live, even your favorite color. You'll know if you believe him or not, but if you want to order again or even leave the bookstore, he will ask you to answer increasingly terrifying things.

This is a friendly reminder that libraries exist and that they have more than just books.
Now, some libraries have more services than others but even the most basic libraries will have shelves upon shelves of dvd, cd, books, games, etc… that you can borrow and use for free(!!!)
Some more bougie libraries will also have other awesome stuff.
For example, I once went to a library with a recording booth with a good quality mic, they had a green screen room, cameras that could be borrowed, computers with the Adobe suite to do editing, as well as a plethora of other resources and help from librarians.
Another thing, ask what your local librarians can do. They often are really good at researching and also might be able to borrow things from other libraries as well.
Also, once you get a library card you can sign up for Libby that has a ton of books and audio books (again) for free.
Personally I just borrowed the 4th series of doctor who and have been watching the episodes and extra content on the dvds. I’m having a blast!

Hey guys I don’t know if there’s anyone following me that’s from Oregon but there’s something happening that I want to bring awareness to that I just found out about because it’s really worrying me.
Due to budget cuts the Salem Public Library is at risk of being permanently shut down… For more police funding…
This is the only public library in Salem. And it’s one of the few places I and many other people can go to as a safe place.
My friend has a petition going on to hopefully get more attention and stop this from happening, so please, if you can sign this petition that would be so lovely. You don’t need to donate money or anything, just a signature is all.
Please help keep The Salem Public Library

Libraries are the punk rock of the mind. They’re free, they’re open to everyone, and they’re full of ideas that can change the world.

"there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" "you can criticize capitalism while participating in it" are both true and valid statements. but if you care about anti capitalism, your hands aren't wiped clean. acknowledging the problem is only the first step
yes, you can make money to survive & buy things to have fun. you can get things that aren't necessary to treat yourself. you can work your way up the corporate ladder.
some people resign themselves to their fate, as though capitalism is the way that things must be forever. but there's still questions you should ask yourself before deciding to drop all attempts at working against the system:
do you support/promote the culture of excessive buying?
how do you treat poor or otherwise disadvantaged people?
do you support local libraries, local businesses (if you can afford to), or other local organizations?
do you vote in favor of social services and education?
do you vote at all?
do you buy things in quantity over quality(lifespan) when you have the money to do either?
not everyone is an activist, but everyone has the power to vote with their money and with their ballot. telling yourself that there's no ethical consumption isn't a get out of jail free card. you don't have to be perfect or have to shop outside of your means or really go out of your way at all to take actions against capitalism. the main thing is that you care about people, your community, the environment, etc enough to care about your behaviors. that's all we can ask of anyone. to care
(this post is written about the US, I'm unclear on the situations in other countries)

This Banned Books week, join the fight against censorship by taking ACTION.
We all know that the vast majority of Americans support public libraries and the freedom to read.
But we’re being out-organized by a small minority of people on the Right who are banning books, defunding libraries, and limiting access to services. If we want to make a difference, we need to be in the rooms where it’s happening - and we’re here to help you.
Find out when your local school and/or library board meets.
Commit to attending AT LEAST 3 meetings in 2024.
Use our Board Watcher Bingo card while attending the meetings. https://bit.ly/boardbingo
Who funds your local library system? Advocate to INCREASE and EXPAND funding for public libraries. Oppose all cuts!
Run for or seek appointment to your local school and/or library board. Join our upcoming candidate cohort!
Tell us about it! Fill out this form to tell us the actions you’ve committed to (the first ten folks to do so will get a small gift mailed to them from us!)
This week, commit to taking specific actions to show up for your local public library.
