It would be nice if humanity could reach a point where landscaping like this is not okay. I walk past this area frequently, and they regularly nuke everything with roundup and remove all the detritus. Think of all the arthropods and other wildlife this wasted space could support. I understand having fire buffers around buildings, but this attitude isn’t exclusive to plots close to buildings…
I also understand many native plants can be more difficult to grow, but California poppies (in the Bay Area) are not one of them. I’m sure other regions have similarly easy to grow species. Even a few plants can make a huge difference.
We as a culture need to stop it with the blasé attitude about the destruction of nature, particularly bugs (ie invertebrates). “Kill it with fire” is a shitty and ignorant way to react to a tiny animal that is merely trying to exist. The vast majority of bugs are not out to get you and are, in fact, terrified of you (rightfully so in many cases).
Would you squish a baby bird? Didn’t think so.

Is Saint Krokodilus an active holy beast or is he powered down?
he is powered down and not in use. i went into detail about the general situation wrt crocodile, lycaon and leun all being competing popemobiles in answer to this ask
it is linked to leun's debut making him obsolete. croc's venting system is very advanced and could eliminate the risk of suffocation for all crew, but is so fiddly that failure was just so commonplace that even getting it to work was challenging for the enginesmiths. there were repairs planned, in the hopes of having every single beast up and working at the same time (which has, historically, never happened). but then the plague happened and resource scarcity became a factor, so the decision was made to let krokodilos sleep for a little while longer/forever and just rely on leun for now. even though leun quite famously suffocated his entire first crew with the exception of sir heaven. but hey at least leun is not constantly breaking down

People passionate about sustainability need to realize that not everything can be reusable. Some things need to be disposable!
Inhalers, IV’s, Catheters, PIC lines, NG tubes, Adult Diapers, Cutlery and Dishes, Ostomy Bags, and many more things are all single use.
Most of these things aren’t easy to replace or have a reusable version of; especially when you are disabled and dealing with low energy.
If you want a more sustainable future make disposable products for us that use better materials and better manufacturing choices. Don’t pick on disabled people for needing them to live.
