   I’m training Baxter how to ‘farm cat’ by taking him with me when I’m working and letting him play. Yesterday’s outing was an hour of cutting brush in the woods up on the ridge. He was very happy and busy clawing his way up trees (about 4 feet high), running along logs and downed branches, and pouncing on fallen leaves. Chance, the border collie, kept a sharp eye on him. Chance will not accept that cats cannot be herded. When we got home the exhaustion of farming* caught up to him, and he napped hard.  

* Also he needs to grow into those big ol’ ears, and that’s hard work, too.

   Meadow, on the other hand, naps hard after absolutely no exertion whatsoever. She is. Pudding.

My heart 😭 so we decidied to take in a pregnant stray cat (we called her Lady Luck) (who is still young herself maybe not even a year) before winter hit, and she had 7 very healthy babies (Chester, Void, Pluto, Karma, the twins Voodoo and Kopy and Butterball) and they're great and frustrating but I love them. they're kittens so the zoomies are insane and our feet at night are in danger, but it seems .. my very grumpy first cat I've had for almost 5 years (Topper aka Mama) now who was never really interested in toys, is now getting interested in toys!

I'm telling you for 5 years the most fascinating thing she's ever had is her own tail. I tried buying her toys and gifts and even fancy foods for treats she just wasn't interested in for whatever reason. But now after dealing with these kittens for a few months she's starting to do things shes never done.

She'll start crying and after seeing she has food, water, the litter is clean, everything seems fine I can't figure out what she's crying for. And then I just on a whim tried waving a toy around for her and she'll stop crying and be SO INVESTED in the toy! My grumpy old woman is turning into a baby again before my eyes 😭😭

She's had it a little rough after it just being her and I for so long, seriously roughing it just trying to figure out how to be stable. Then introducing a very energetic Australian Shepherd (Bigby) she took a long time to get used to, and then another random cat, and then ANOTHER 7 RANDOM SMALLER CATS (yes... 10 animals all together) she's just been fuming. She hated it for a long time and hissing and batting at the kittens. I was worried they weren't going to get along.

But after a while ....

She started melting slowly and becoming different 😭 she's always the grumpy cat who's only nice to me but now she's slowly letting them into her space, she's wanting to play more, she's wanting more attention and she's becoming more patient 😭😭😭😭😭
