We won our last game of Spring #Curling League woohoo! We won the coin toss, chose hammer, and still ended up w/ yellow stones so things were off to a great start. Ryan made a comment last week about how I’m the only one in the entire league with such strong opinions about stone colors (I like playing w/ yellow) 😂 I also felt a little more comfortable after how last week’s game went despite the epic loss based on the score, that I decided NOT to use a stabilizer during end one. I’m pretty proud of myself for playing an entire game w/o a stabilizer 💃🏻💃🏻 I still really need to work on the balance thing and my lunge, but there’s hope for me yet! Someday I hope I can do one of those fancy spin moves 🐐 @niklasedin is known for. I also managed to remember to take off the gripper off my sliding shoe before every throw. I almost forgot during the 6th(?) end but caught myself in time to avoid dragging my poor right knee 5 feet down the ice like I did a few weeks ago. So happy with our teamwork this game. Hooray for channeling our inner thieves and robbers w/ all the #StealPants action. At first I was a little concerned that it was going to be true to #MayThe4thBeWithYou Star Wars fashion and we’d be forced to 1 point each end the whole game, but we managed to get steals and deuces. I confess I’m a greedy mofo and wish we had had time to play one more end so we could’ve gotten to double digits, but man was it a great game against the team we tied with a few weeks ago. Congrats to the @curlsandiego Spring League trophy winners 👏👏👏 I’m so proud of how much I’ve grown from my first winter league game to this weekend. Spring #curling league is in the books. Thanks to Libby and Matt for a great experience. We each started playing in league in February during the winter season, making our trio the least experienced team out of all the teams playing in this league, but we had a lot of fun, grew a lot, and even managed to win a game and tie one. Definitely loads of improvement for me these past 6 weeks. Sad about missing next week’s business meeting / pizza / pickup game because of a dance performance, but hoping to get some curling in during the summer too. It started out like Star Wars - the #force was strong on Sheet D, but then the 4th end happened. Pretty proud of our team for getting a 3-ender in the 8th end even though the game was pretty much over by the 6th end. We had a lot of help from a more experienced curler Stephanie who came in to sub and played on our team because I was a question mark after my freak dance injury. Ice and ibuprofen are my BFFs this weekend. My proudest moment was being to do a takeout as called for my by skip on my second stone (we were in a quad this week so I only threw 2 stones per end and was having my usual draw weight issues), but I did it 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 I actually aimed and pivoted correctly and gave it the perfect amount of weight. That was technique and not just the pure dumb luck that normally saves me wHeee!!! Now if I could only do that consistently. Number one problem I need to work on to start with is actually something simple - REMEMBER TO TAKE OFF THE GRIPPER FROM MY SLIDING SHOE!!! It happens at least once a game argh! Tonight’s been the worst so far - I just dragged my right knee HARD, like really hard 3-5 feet down the ice SMH. But the fact that I was able to play at all tonight was victory in itself. #EvenSteven - tie game tonight, and I was getting better at the whole pivot thing Joe was trying to teach me during winter league 💃🏻🕺 Bill also said my slide out of the hack is 2-3 feet better than last week 👏👏👏 The #ice was #slipperyAF tonight even w/ both my grippers on. My vice fell towards the end and then the opposing team’s skip fell right after her sheesh! Oh, and my vice is someone who’s also in Shock Army! We are #DestinysChildren 😂 I thought it was her last week but she doesn’t wear glasses during dance rehearsals and she wears her hair differently so I wasn’t sure. Such a small world! So just like Zoolander, I’m not an ambi-turner in dance. When it comes to going across the floor and doing turns, I basically go right. I’m also not an ambi-breather when it comes to swimming. I used to only breathe on my right but as I got better and started swimming longer distances and because Danielle worked with me one time to improve my technique, I now only breathe out of my left. Well, when it comes to curling, I am not an ambi-sweeper. I always sweep to the right of the thrower. Say hello to my new #curling team! Team 1 aka Niklas, Alina, and Oskar 😂🇸🇪🇨🇭 Skip wanted to be Chris Plys but someone from the opposing team said that wouldn’t work because of the lack of tattoos so the girls decided on Oskar #voluntold We’re probably the least experienced team playing in @curlsandiego ‘s spring league. We all came from #LearnToCurl events & played winter league, meaning our league experience dates all the way back to February 2nd 😂 Ooh maybe we can win a one an under spiel this year! There were last minute changes to the roster and when I got to the rink and realized how inexperienced my team is I felt like we’re the designated punching bag this season as certain teams decided to stay together from winter league and some more experienced players combined forces, etc. meaning they need someone to beat, and that would be us, but things happen for a reason... Last night reminded me of the joy of curling. It’s hard because I’m competitive AF and extra AF, but not athletic or talented enough to win on my own. Curling is a team sport and we all do our part. I definitely still think like a skip like I always have because I’m such a curling nerd and spend so much of my life obsessing over curling, but I might be channeling my inner Ben Hebert. Plus my fancy broom has helped me become such a great sweeper in a few short weeks. Definitely worth the investment! For now I’m embracing throwing 3 stones and hoping to become the best lead I could possibly be. We lost the game but had so much fun. I’m curious to find out next week if skipper did his homework of watching curling videos on YouTube. He can learn a lot from the best curler in the world 😉 And I’m not just saying that because I’m a biased fangirl. I know how to take score now using our weird format scoreboard 😂 My previous teammates would be so proud of me lol. 👏👏👏 About friggin time! Actually, I got the hang of it like 2-3 weeks ago, but yay. We won the coin toss and played with red stones. We blanked the first end and the force was strong on both sides - we were Even Steven at 1-1 after 3 ends, then we gave up a 4-ender in the 4th 💩The game was essentially over by then BUT we actually managed to score 2 in the 6th end, but ran out of time and lost 7-3. That 4-ender was actually almost a 5-ender; we got lucky. But it was a great game despite my usual inability NOT to put weight on the rocks and difficulty reading the ice. The vibe of our team is fun. I’m totally third-wheeling, and the girls are feisty so we question and defy skipper, but I love our on ice celebrations and begging of rocks to stay in the house 😂 Goal is to at least win one game 🙏🤞 I also noticed I was a little more comfortable with my wicked fast sliding shoe compared to last week. I still feel like I’m gonna die on the ice, but I only screamed/yelped once! Woohoo for progress. Swipe for an #injury #update I was tempted to post the photo of my hand in front of my usual #salad for #dinner by itself, but figured I’d spare some of you just in case. What I really wanted was some InNOut but I managed to resist since I know I’ll be stuffing my face w/ lots of GOT Oreos soon whew. Glad I brought my Team USA gloves to the rink today because I needed the protection for my hand both for throwing rocks and especially for sweeping. Definitely some discomfort after the game and by the time I got home an hour later I NEEDED to ice and take ibuprofen. I almost showed up to league wearing this tonight in honor of @teamhasselborg ‘s win, but it’s signed and I don’t want to damage it in any way. It’s precious just like my Edin jersey. Plus it’s snug. I tried it on in Vegas when I first got it and I can get it on my body, but I look like a sausage in a casing that’s about to explode. And I’ve gained 10lbs back since #ContCup2019 from stress and emotional eating so it’s probably worse now. One of my fellow league curlers found out last week after our game that I have @niklasedin ‘s #WMCC2018 jersey and he basically said something like “you should be wearing it here...” Bro, do I not sport enough #TeamEdin gear already?!? 😂 I normally wear my @teamniklasedin hoodie to #curlingleague and some sort of Swedish shirt underneath, earning me the nickname Niklas, which I’m totally running with 😬 Not gonna lie, part of me is tempted to be extra #extraAF and wear it to our game tonight...
