june  has  dreaded  this  encounter  for  her  entire  week.  seeing  an  ex  again  is  never  easy,  and  even  more  difficult  is  revisiting  a  place  she  used  to  frequent  in  order  to  gather  her  things  that  no  longer  belong  there.  perhaps  she  should  have  listened  to  her  gut  instincts  that  she  should  rearrange  the  pick-up  due  to  the  poor  weather,  but  there  is  a  part  of  her  that  wonders  if  it’s  all  her  cowardice  speaking.  she  is  in  the  middle  of  trying  to  convince  her  ex  that  it’s  unnecessary  for  her  to  stay  over  when  the  power  goes  out,  rendering  the  apartment  pitch-black.  so  perfectly  timed  that  it  almost  feels  like  it’s  fate  laughing  in  her  face.  slowly  and  carefully,  she  walks  near  the  window  to  take  a  look  at  the  world  outside,  eerily  silent  and  dark  except  for  a  few  street  lights.  “well,”  she  sighs  in  defeat,  her  shoulders  slumped  as  she  silently  laments  at  her  pitiful  luck.  “i  guess  you’re  right.”

"i went to the doctor today," she began, her voice steady yet laced with vulnerability. alanna found herself stuck no matter how hard she tried getting out. there had been a number of times before when she tried sneaking out, running away, and never looking back, but it never ended up working. truth be told, it got better to this point. things had been a nightmare at the start of their marriage, but the two of them seemed to come to some kind of understanding. no, they didn’t exactly like each other, but they could stand each other and it seemed like that was the best they would get now. however, she couldn’t stand her spouse right now when it was after midnight and she was sitting awake at their place alone. when she finally heard the front door open, a sigh passed her lips before she quickly found herself out of bed and at the front door. “where have you..—” her words were cut off when she saw their face. seeing the busted lip and forming bruises caused her to rush over. “what the fuck happened?”
