Were you an Austin, Baz or Elvis fan before seeing the movie? How about after?

- Total Baz Luhrmann fan. When I was younger, I was so drawn to Romeo + Juliet and The Great Gatsby movies because I loved the creative direction of the films. Those two movies really left an impact on me because I hardly ever see movies portrayed that way and until now I still rewatch those movies as comfort films.( I never really researched who were behind those films because I was afraid of being disheartened that these kinds of films would be few and far between ) After I watched the Elvis movie, I fell in love with it -- and then I figured out Baz was also involved in Great Gatsby & Romeo + Juliet. Instant comfort film.

What is/are your favorite look(s) that Austin sports in the film?

- Hehehe I love his classic Pink outfit and the Blue jumpsuit he wore during the Las Vegas performances. AND AND the black button down outfit while he was at the carnival.

Most memorable scene or line?

(OH TO PICK ONE) Definitely that firework scene in his car after the Trouble performance. It was that part in the trailer that got me hooked--and I waited for that very scene to come up in the film (AAAAAAAA).

Also the opening when he sang the “Glory Glory Hallelujah” part--Like.. I had little to no knowledge about Elvis (besides his classic songs) before coming to watch this film and like I didnt really explore much of his discography. But something oddly magical happened when I heard him belt out that part in “An American Trilogy” for the first time (Note that Ive never heard of this song before)-- I was quietly mouthing the words because that opening sounded so glorious it kinda (delightfully) startled me how the movie was starting off so strong ASDFGHJK.

- ONCE. I watched it with my family-- and deadass I cant afford to watch it again in theatres because movie tickets are so expensive now where I live

- Fanart all the way. Although I wish I could branch out doing fanfics/drabbles because I have so many cool ideas but Im not really good in creative writing (sad lmao). If I do have a big story idea, I just end up making a comic or an animatic on it instead.

- I live in the Philippines

I'm an freelance illustrator and im in a local community college working for a degree in fine art and business. I'm a huge fan of body modification though !! I love tattoos and plan on splitting my tounge, stretching my ears, and if the procedure was safer I would love to tattoo my eyes.

I'm extremely empathic, while its great for understanding others struggles, its difficult for me to stay calm and rational. because of that I often avoid talking to people and get overwhelmed very quickly, which I know can upset the people I interact with. however I very much enjoy quiet quality time! I often find myself doing a lot of the planning for events, while its stressful i like having control and knowing what's going to happen. I'm not a huge fan of surprises! im a loyal person, its failed me in the past, especially forgiving when I shouldn't have, but if there's someone I love im going to stick by until the bitter end. my love language is definitely words of affirmation or physical touch !! really depends on how im doing, sometimes I cant stand touch :[. I'm also very proud of my hair, I enjoy cutting and dying it very much!! ive had every colour in my hair, and currently its short and black. not exactly on purpose- I accidentally slipped with a razor and buzzed a line down the middle of my head ... I'm also 5'4! I wish I was taller though, so I usually wear small platformed boots and clothes that elongate me a bit! ive got some sick dark green and black cargo pants I like to sew fun patches on :]

I love dusk and stargazing, and purple is my favourite colour! and i seriously love sitting down and watching movies, regardless of how good or bad they are. my favourite animal is a bear, I own a jade bear necklace that was gifted to me on my birthday a few years ago- I wear it everyday. I also collect anything related to bears! especially teddy bears. I currently have a soft pullover with bears on it, its my favourite pullover rn!! I also love graphic novels, I own a small collection of them along with some cool rocks and skulls ive found.

I actually wanted to answer this last night but it took me a few to actually place you? I wanted you with Toby, or with maybe even BEN but I actually really like you and Jonathan together and well, I'm going to explain that now.

Things He Likes About You

SO, right to the most obvious thing that made me want to pair the two of you together was the art. Jonathan is an artist through and through, mostly through physical crafts and poetry. He loves that you're into body mods and will absolutely compliment the new things you do, such as piercings, tattoos (he'd love to design one if you'd let him-), and thinks splitting your tongue is SO COOL. If the procedure was safer, he'd joke about you getting your eyes done gold to match his lmfao. Finds you being empathetic oh so sweet. Your loving, sweet nature makes him naturally drawn to you that he has to actively remind himself that you are off the table from people he normally siphons from - he would never hurt you. Jonathan loves the dusk and evening an stargazing. I'll come back to this though. Thinks that you loving bears is adorable. BUT that leads me to the next section.

You Two as a Couple

This man, after finding out about your love of bears, is going to get you one of those giant CVS bears lmfao. He'll also pick up graphic novels for you from time to time, and little pieces of jewelry he thinks you might like for your piercings depending on your style and what not. I would say Jonathan's love languages are words of affirmation an quality time - but, like hey, I think he's pretty good at physical touch. He will call you so many sweet things, how much he loves you, little compliments, like he writes poetry for you he's such a sofite. The two of you have little art dates, teach him about certain things and he'll teach you other things as an exchange. It's really sweet. Soft evenings, drinking good things. He loves your hair, finds the story kind of silly but he likes it. Jonathan is into stargazing because he got bored over a summer and learned the constellations. Found a deep love for the night, and looks at the stars like golden threads. He'll spend those times with you by pointing out the stars, their names, their stories. Jonathan knows that you're a loyal person, and he will never betray that. Jonathan can absolutely stay in rational thought and is mostly logical, but like, if you're ever overwhelmed he will handle it. He wants you to be in a sound state of mind, y'know? Jonathan will also help you plan things, really anything to ease your mind. He's really perceptive to other people and their feelings, so I feel he can read you really, really well. I feel Jonathan would also want to dye your hair at least once because he has a really good eye for colors. I don't actually see any clashing here because Jonathan kinda likes handling things?? He's not really controlling or anything, knows when to give you your space, and generally meshes with you pretty well. He's also kinda tall, so he appreciates that you wear the platforms to he can give you smooches, like on your cheeks, lips, but mostly the crown of your head! New otp ngl.

Are you ok with Fan art?

Yes! I am totally cool with fan art! I’m always honored someone wants to draw characters Ive made and stuff.

My only rules about it are:

No shipping (I’ve had problems with this in the past, plus I have several ocs that are self inserts in a way). This also includes nothing NSFW, please keep it SFW.

No gore/bloody stuff. There are some exceptions to this rule since I have lots of horror characters, but a good guide is if I’ve drawn it, I’m cool with it.

Please tag me in your post so I can reblog! You can also submit if you prefer, but I rather reblog a post of yours and give you the notes. They might be my ocs but it’s your work.

Hmmmmm this is a hard question because I honestly mostly just go by gut feeling - I try to keep in mind gravity when it’s applicable (aka when it’s not gravity-defying hairstyles like kiri and baku’s)? But that’s the most conscious thought I put in it by this point. This might be an annoying advice to get but as always my only proper one is to look at real life people and study the way hair naturally falls on them, studying from real life is always the fastest way to learn how to draw something as far as my experience goes... and this one is gonna be hard but try not to compare yourself too much to others? Doing things your own way at your own pace will make the learning process a lot more fun!

The truth is that they haven’t been the protagonists of an arc at the same time for so long that they’ve had little to no reason to interact with each other, and also that when Hori has characters interacting with them in the background it’s usually to have them reprimend them or tell them to shut up and at first they covered that role for each other but now they’re such good friends that all their interactions end up being them being nice to each other and Horikoshi needs his silly sketches thrown in the background at any possible moment so now Kaminari is the one you’ll see interacting with them the most, because he’s silly and doesn’t mind being a dick to either of them whenever given the chance. Or at least that’s the conclusion I came to after rereading the manga a couple months back. On the bright side they HAVE started interacting more again! We’ve been seeing them often just chilling together in the background, so cute, I love them best friends ;;;

Fandom: Thunderbirds Rating: Teen Genre: Hurt/Comfort/Angst Characters: Kyrano, Jeff Tracy, John Tracy, Scott Tracy

Part 4 of my contribution @gumnut-logic‘s SensorySunday: Sixth Sense. Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3

Somehow I’ve managed to find another new character to use. TAG!Kyrano is almost entirely unknown so we’ve got a mix of TOS!Kyrano and Kayo.

He had always been a light sleeper, and the frantic pounding of feet on the stairs followed by an equally panicked rapping on his bedroom door was more than enough to pull Kyrano from his sleep. Instantly alert in the dark room, he slipped from his bed and opened the door to reveal a dishevelled Jeff Tracy.

“What is it, Mr Tracy?” he asked, forgoing the usual customary greeting of his employer. The billionaire, despite an occasional bizarre dress sense, never let himself appear so outwardly distressed. Add in that the visit had occurred in the witching hour, and Kyrano had no doubt that something was very wrong indeed.

“Scott and John are missing,” Mr Tracy told him. “I’ve searched the entire villa; they must have gone out.” The boys had yet to realise that sound travelled very well in their new home – Kyrano may have been tending to his herb garden, but John’s denied request for a stargazing trip had not been particularly quiet. From the look in his employer’s eyes, Mr Tracy believed that the two boys had gone to do so regardless. Kyrano didn’t disagree.

“I will be ready in one minute,” he promised, retreating back into his room to shrug on outdoor clothes and boots over his nightwear. “Do you have everything?” Mr Tracy hesitated, and Kyrano turned to the backpack he kept stocked for his explorations of the terrain. “Fetch your gear, Mr Tracy. I will meet you by the pool.”

He didn’t need to look up to know that Mr Tracy had gone; even panicked and terrified for his sons, the man had a presence that was immediately notable when it left. The fact that his steps on the stairs weren’t at all quiet simply confirmed the fact.

Without Mr Tracy standing in front of him, looking to him to be the security, Kyrano let his mask fall for a moment, drawing in a deep breath to calm himself. The news that the two teenage boys – Scott considered himself a man, but nineteen was still too soon for Kyrano to consider him as such – were missing and presumably wandering around the island in the middle of the night made him afraid, too. He was fond of all of Mr Tracy’s boys. Perhaps they were not quite so close that they were like his own sons, but honorary nephews would not be inaccurate.

He was aware of Scott’s little forays away from the villa. The teenager might have plenty of experience sneaking out from under his father’s nose, and perhaps Kyrano should have informed Mr Tracy that his eldest son was disobeying him, but evading Kyrano was a skill Scott had yet to pick up. He’d trailed the boy several times, watching him learn the paths and tracks in the immediate vicinity of the villa. By this point, he was confident that Scott could handle himself as long as he remained close.

However, it was gone midnight and if they were going stargazing it was highly unlikely they’d want to ruin their night vision with something as basic as torches. Kyrano feared that Scott might have got overconfident, no matter how much he loved and tried to protect his brothers. It was with that fear – the fear that Scott had found himself lulled into a false sense of security in what was a very dangerous terrain for the unwary – riding in his heart that he joined the Tracy patriarch on the patio area outside the villa.

“Where would they have gone?” Mr Tracy asked. “The boys don’t know the paths here yet, and there’s only two of us. We can’t search them all!”

“On the contrary, Mr Tracy, Scott has been familiarising himself with the immediate vicinity,” Kyrano admitted, not facing his employer as the other man bristled. “In particular, he appears to favour two routes, and in the dark he will have taken one he believes he knows well, especially if one of his brothers is with him.”

“Scott is grounded for life when I find him,” Mr Tracy grumbled darkly. “I expressively told him it was too dangerous.”

“Young men often take that as a challenge,” Kyrano couldn’t help but observe, before hurriedly moving on to the task at hand before Mr Tracy addressed the fact that he’d known about the disobedient explorations. “Scott’s preferred routes are those two-” he gestured at them. “Which one would you like to take, Mr Tracy?”

“This one,” the other man said, heading over to the nearer of the two. Kyrano obediently moved to the other. “Keep in touch, Kyrano. If you find them, tell me immediately.”

“Yes, Mr Tracy.” There was no point lingering any longer; turning on his torch – night vision was only so useful, and the stars held no appeal to him tonight – he progressed down the path, hearing Mr Tracy do the same on the other path.

No doubt Mr Tracy had already done so, but as he walked, Kyrano tried first Scott’s phone, and then John’s. Neither boy answered, and when he switched to tracking their GPS signals he found both icons firmly in their bedrooms. Presumably, they hadn’t wanted to be tracked and had taken precautions to prevent their father discovering their little escapade. Clever, but infuriating from a security point of view, and Kyrano resolved to have a quiet word with the pair of them about that. What if they got into trouble? The island might be their home and otherwise uninhabited by humans, but it was also dangerous.

If he was attempting to track any of the other three, it would be much easier. The youngest two would be talking, and in the midnight air the sound would travel. Even Virgil could be drawn into a quiet conversation. John liked absolute silence when studying the sky, and despite his capability of being just as loud as his youngest brothers, Scott could and would respect that, simply sitting in silence alongside John for hours on end.

It never failed to amaze Kyrano when he saw the brothers together. With no full brother of his own, and a half brother he had never seen eye-to-eye with, their easy relationship with each other was breathtakingly precious. He was beyond grateful to Mr Tracy for providing that example to Tanusha and inviting her into the family as he had. She would never grow up with a bully son of a mistress wailing about unfair inheritance because he was older but not considered legitimate. Instead, she would grow up with five brothers to protect her and be protected by her in turn. It was the greatest gift Mr Tracy could ever had given him.

His thankful musings were cut off by a faint shout. He paused in his tracks, shining the torch light in the approximate direction of the noise. It couldn’t be Mr Tracy; it was the wrong direction for that. Only two other people were out and about, and he cautiously advanced to find the ground falling away suddenly – a recent fall of earth, receding the lip of the track just far enough for it to be in the direct path of feet, especially if they were walking two abreast.

Filled with a sense of dread, he approached the edge as much as he dared and shined the torch down over it, leaning over tentatively to catch sight of whatever was illuminated.

Some twenty feet below was the crumpled form of a boy. He wasn’t moving, and the torch highlighted a shock of flame-coloured hair.

John.

Where was Scott? He moved the torch, surveying the area around John, until he found another lip barely past him – more or less passing directly beneath his head. The figure the light found wasn’t crumpled up like John’s, but was equally unmoving. From his perch on top of the cliff, he couldn’t see what injuries they had sustained, but if they’d both fallen twenty feet, Kyrano found himself worried.

“Scott!” he called. “John!” At least one of them had to be conscious if they’d made a noise moments earlier.

“’rano?” It was quiet and filled with pain, but that was John’s voice. “-at oo?”

“I’m coming down to you now!” he confirmed. “Is Scott conscious?”

“-t sure,” John called back. “-t awkin.”

“Keep talking to him!” Kyrano instructed. “I’ll be with you shortly!” He pulled out his phone and called Mr Tracy.

“Kyr-”

“I’ve found them, Mr Tracy,” he said. “Follow the path I took.”

“Are they alright?” the other man demanded. Kyrano held in a sigh, but shook his head despite knowing his employer couldn’t see him.

“They appear to have fallen off the path,” he reported. “John is conscious and responding to me, but Scott is not. I will need assistance getting them back to the villa.”

“I’m on my way.”

Neither man bothered with pleasantries, hanging up without another word. It would take Mr Tracy several minutes to reach him, and Kyrano refused to wait. Retrieving some sturdy rope from his pack, he secured it to a tree before fashioning a harness to abseil down the unstable cliff. It wasn’t ideal, but it sufficed in an emergency, which this definitely qualified as.

A minute later, he was crouched next to John, torch highlighting clumps of dark red in his otherwise bright hair. Turquoise eyes were glazed and struggling to concentrate on him, but Kyrano was simply thankful the boy hadn’t hit his head harder, even if he seemed to have broken most of the bones in his body.

Another foot or so below them, it turned out that Scott was shifting slightly in a movement Kyrano could only describe as a muted writhing. Beyond concerned, he dropped down next to him, eyeing the pool of blood beneath him and the foliage protruding from somewhere around his hip with horror. “Scott?”

Despite the movement his eyes were closed and there was no answer. Kyrano reached for the first aid kit he carried, and prayed it would be enough.

“Please hurry, Mr Tracy.”

summary: you and your boyfriend are in europe for a school trip and you sneak into his and neds room.

warnings: none, it’s all fluff

a/n: this was inspired by the far from home trailer!! i wrote it on my phone so there are no capital letters.

“you’re such an idiot, did you even pack your toothbrush?”

peter furrows his brows together, trying to remember what he chucked into the large suitcase just yesterday. “uhh… i think so?”

you laugh and rummage through the boy's bag, attempting to find even one jacket besides the one he was wearing himself. peter was known for forever being in a hurry, throwing things together instead of making sure he was prepared.

that was one of the reasons you worried so much about him being spider-man, especially after the events just a few months ago.

peter didn’t like to admit it out loud but he was still riddled with persistent nightmares and fears that he’d have to relive everything he did right from the point where he was thrown into outer space to seeing Tony Stark turn into nothing but ash.

but peter parker as determined and selfless as he was had made you promise not to bring up the events of the past starting the second you landed. you planned to stick to that promise.

outside, europe waited for you both in all its glory. your trip was planned in great detail, with a different activity each day to keep you both occupied. for you, this wasn’t just a school trip but another step in your relationship.

“oh so i see you remembered the toothbrush but not the toothpaste.” you hold up the plastic stick and shake your head at him. “smart, parker. real smart.”

knowing you were ever so sarcastic, your boyfriend takes the toothbrush from you and chucks it back into his suitcase. “oh and i can’t wait to see what you forgot.”

“bold of you to assume that i forgot anything. i’m prepared… unlike someone here.” you raise a brow in suggestion and gaze up. from your spot on the floor, you could make out a hint of adoration in his coffee coloured eyes, laced with swirls of amusement and affection.

you didn’t realise it then but you’d left your hairbrush at home.

you knew that you’d get in trouble for sneaking into his room but ned wasn’t going to say anything- wherever he was and honestly? you didn’t expect the teachers to be knocking down the doors at nine pm.

besides, all you were going to do was have a few laughs and hopefully catch up on some rest.

peter stood a few feet away above you with his phone in hand right after sending may a text. you knew it was may because he’d previously chuckled about something she’d said. you liked seeing him happy like this, carefree and content.

“you’re staring at me.”

you blink and screw up your face, nearly missing the way his cheeks flushed red. after a long flight, you both looked exhausted, dark circles lined the area beneath both of his eyes and his cheeks looked drawn but maybe that was from a few nights of missed sleep. at that moment, you couldn’t think about it twice.

your hand rested on his open suitcase, right on top of the spider-man suit and you grasp the material, feeling web shooters beneath them.

“i am not.” you defend yourself.

“you are, and that usually means that you’re thinking.” peter gets down in front of you and crosses his legs, sitting right beside the discarded suitcase holding items of clothing you had yet to steal. he strokes the area just above your brows once where a crease had formed. “what’s going on inside my loves head?”

his simple action was enough to make you relax- somehow even more then you already were. peter may be clumsy but he was also gentle in the way he spoke, moved and touched when he was around you.

if he tried hard enough, every small circle drawn on your arm or stomach or ever gentle twirl or your hair could feel like nothing more then being brushed by a butterfly. you ease closer to him until your knees are touching, hands laced. outside the streets hurl into chaos as taxis force their way through traffic and men and women shout between streets.

“we’ve been together for two years and i still love you as much as i did the day i said i love you for the very first time.” you speak over the chanting of teens down the hotel halls. “you still have every inch of my heart and there is no one else i’d rather be here with right now.”

peter feels his chest swell with love, corners of his lips curling up and in his back pocket his phone vibrates only once but he ignores it.

“and here i was thinking you were thinking about something serious.” he shakes his head playfully and presses a kiss to the side of your face. they say actions spoke louder then words.

“this is serious!” you exclaim. “I’m proclaiming my love for you despite having done it yesterday too.”

peter throws his head back in laughter, thumb running circles across your knuckles and you smile, small creases forming beneath your eyes in the darkened room illuminated by street lights and a dull, overhanging bulb.

“pretty girl, you proclaim your love to me every single day and i never get tired of it. you’re a huge sap.” he brings a hand away and you almost whine at the loss of contact before he tucks a strand of hair behind your ear. “by the way, i love you too.”

you raise a brow and inch your face closer, basking in the fact that for the first time today there were no teachers staring you both down, waiting for one of you to step out of line so they could scold you.

“do you though?”

peter gasps in faux offence and places a hand over his chest. the smell of mint settles between you. but still, peter smiles a real smile.

“are you questioning my love?”

“depends, are you insulting my romantic gestures?” you tease.

peters lips come down, soft and gentle at first as they run over your own only barely before he captures them in a love filled kiss. the taste of his mint gum lingered on his lips and yours too, but from the piece you stole from his back pocket when he wasn’t paying attention.

fun fact: he was paying attention and he was aware of your hand snacking into his pocket. at first, he thought you were using it as leverage to pull him closer for a much-needed hug but soon noticed you popping a piece into your mouth.

the gum wasn’t important- despite the fact that he had bought mint over strawberry knowing it was your favourite.

you truly loved him and you’d tell him every day if it meant giving him something to smile about.

Rec List #1 Theme: 2018 Favourites

One of my fandom resolutions is to rec more in 2019. I’m going to post rec lists for some of my favourite Nick fics divided up by theme/content/ship or whatever I fancy throughout the year. It seems fitting that my first rec post of 2019 should be my favourite Nick Fics of 2018. If you’re interested in my Harry Potter themed recs, you can find them over on my other blog @writcraft under the tag #writ recs where I’m undertaking the same initiative.

This is by no means an exhaustive list - I’m limiting myself to ten recs per list and it is very difficult, I could have recced many more. I’ve read and enjoyed a whole raft of terrific stories and this rec list is simply based on my personal tastes which may not be everybody else’s cuppa. Please heed the content warnings the author has flagged on AO3 in each case, none of my recs include the content tags.

#1. Ten Track Sophomore Album by @junkshop-disco

Nick Grimshaw/Harry Styles | 4,228

Nick has always lived in noise, been the cause of a lot of it, but one day a boy writes him into a pop song and the whole world dissolves into static.

It doesn’t happen like that, not that easy, not that linear, but that’s the heart of it, the soul, if these things have such a thing.

My Rec: The Nick fic of 2018 is undoubtedly the final installment of junkshop-disco’s incredible Doodle of a Surface Life but that has quite rightly garnered so many recs by now if any Gryles reader hasn’t yet indulged, run, quick, what are you waiting for? I love DOASL with all of my heart, but I’m also a sucker for angst and I wanted to highlight this equally terrific fic in my rec list. The structure of this story, in which Nick loses his ability to hear music, is so cleverly done. It’s a very skilled writer that can create an entire fic around sound and make it come alive, and junkshop-disco manages it brilliantly. The fic reads like music, even as it describes the absence of it and it’s a stunning piece of writing. If you like your Gryles contemplative and angsty with confident, lyrical prose, this is the one for you. Junkshop-disco has such a terrific way with words I highly recommend reading all the works by this author. Every single one. But when you do make sure you take a moment to stop by this beautiful story and leave it all the love it deserves.

#2. Tell Me It’s The Strongest Shape by @louandhazaf

Nick Grimshaw/Elgar Johnson/Louis Tomlinson | 73,224

Nick and Elgar have it all. They’re famous, successful, and engaged to be married—and sometimes they play with others.

When uni student Louis gets street cast by Elgar for a GQ photoshoot, he's drawn into Nick and Elgar’s complicated relationship.

They've always invited mates into their bed. It doesn’t ever mean anything. Until… it does.

My Rec: This is such a great exploration of polyamory and the complexities of open relationships, and the author took a great deal of time developing the relationships between the characters and really working on highlighting some of those difficulties. I tend to gravitate towards fanfic where I care deeply about the characters, and although Elgar seems terrific I don’t have the same fannish relationship to him as I do to Nick and Louis so I was curious to know how I would respond to this fic. Basically, the author killed it. I felt such a deep investment in Elgar, Nick and Louis throughout and everything just flew by as I was reading. It’s also really fucking hot. Like, REALLY. Brilliantly done. I loved it.

#3. Let The Boys All Sing And The Boys All Shout For Tomorrow by @lunarrua

Nick Grimshaw/Harry Styles | 18,429

It's February 1988. Thatcher is in power. There's a new drug sweeping through the clubbing scene. In Manchester, it's the eve of a major protest and a new musical movement. And when Nick finds Harry looking lost outside his favourite chip shop, it's the start of a weekend that will leave an indelible mark on both their lives.

My Rec: I saw the summary for this fic and actually yelled at my screen when it popped into my inbox. Gryles, set in Manchester in the 80s? Hell yes. The fic itself certainly didn’t disappoint, it’s absolutely beautiful. The author writes a well-researched, confident piece and the result is stunning. The atmosphere of the whole story is captivating and you can feel yourself transported to the heady days before the Manchester music scene shifted, the anxieties of the AIDS crisis and the fragility of the relationships formed during that period. The Harry of this fic has a transient quality which evokes the nostalgic reflection on a different time in our not so distant past. A real triumph. I loved this story with my whole heart.

#4. Séjour by @silveredsound

Nick Grimshaw/Louis Tomlinson | 6,288

It is so quiet, which should be conducive to concentration, but Nick is bored and listless and lonely. He’s been there for two days and wants to know where the helpful lady is who’ll deliver him a gamine but takes-no-shit housekeeper who he can fall in love with without words. Words are not his friend.

“Where is my Love Actually moment?” he asks the ceramic kitchen sink as he pokes holes in the cover of one of the M&S ready meals he brought over with him.

Nick’s got writer's block. Louis is a master of distraction.

My Rec: I’ve loved a number of stories by Silv this year and I was swinging back and forth between this and others, but there’s something about this little fic that has wormed its way into my heart and has taken hold so this is the one I’m choosing. As I said in my earlier reblog rec, this has such lush, evocative prose it perfectly captures the sense of a fleeting summer. There’s a seductive quietness to it, and a lovely unfolding of the story through snippets of tasting notes left by Louis on bottles of wine and Nick feeling a little bit lost and searching for words as he struggles with writer’s block. Two boys find one another in the warmth of a sleepy French town and it’s beautiful. Really wonderfully done.

#5. Fists & Flowers ‘Verse by @jiksax

Nick Grimshaw/Harry Styles | 1,613 (Make It Worse) and 2,322 (I’ll Do What You Like (If You Stay The Night)

He’s looking at Nick with that soft, terrible look in his eyes, the look that tells Nick the two of them are probably something.

My Rec: If anyone other than Jiksa had told me they were planning an angsty fisting fic series I would have been like umm really? But of course, it’s Jiksa, so naturally I found myself sobbing at the raw, devastating intensity of the story. Jiksa deftly weaves the intensity of the physical act itself into the emotional tumult of Harry and Nick’s relationship in a way that’s incredibly beautiful. A bold, brave, superb piece of hot, confident writing, rich with emotional complexity. Gorgeous.

#6. Constantly on the Cusp by @shiftylinguini

Nick Grimshaw/Louis Tomlinson | 6169

It’s 5 in the morning, and Nick’s got an alarm going off, an unexpected bed full of pop star, and a nation to wake up.

It’s far too fucking early for this.

My Rec: UNFFFFF. I love Shifty’s writing. Like, an obsessive amount. I was so thrilled when Shifty started writing Tomlinshaw I didn’t know quite what to do with myself. It’s actually hard to believe this was Shifty’s first Tomlinshaw, because everything about the fic felt like they have been writing them for years. Louis is sleepy, horny and pissed off, Nick is awake, horny and wondering what it all means, and together they have this scorching hot, sexy moment. Nick’s internal monologue gives us so much insight into their relationship and the fic offers a lovely, warm, hopeful moment at the end. Fantastically written and a sexy delight from start to finish. Loved it!

#7. this cookie’s baking by @disgruntledkittenface

Nick Grimshaw/Harry Styles (Genderswap Femslash) | 8,148

Harry’s eyes flicker between Nick’s eyes and lips. “I just want to be your–”

“Baby,” Nick says softly, cupping Harry’s jaw, “you already are.”

Nick and Harry have a long-overdue conversation.

My Rec: This was the first genderswap Gryles fic I have read and I absolutely loved it. The relationship between Nick and Harry feels so perfectly them and there’s a lovely warmth to the whole story. It’s light and funny but also contains moments of real emotional depth and those first time explorations and the hesitancy of admitting to being something more than friends is handled in such a terrific way. It’s a gorgeous story with wonderful writing and I loved every minute of reading it.

#8. let’s make some new rules by @camiii

Nick Grimshaw/Louis Tomlinson | 12,743

A coffee shop, a Christmas party & a fake date to make sure no one gets laid at the end of the night.

My Rec: This was such an enjoyable read. I love camiii’s Tomlinshaw, and seeing this pop up was a wonderful surprise. Barista Louis agrees to be Nick’s fake boyfriend as he pines over an ex that definitely isn’t worth his time, and they become closer in the process. The pace of the story is wonderful, the flirting is brilliant and despite some misunderstandings and Nick’s no good ex trying to fuck things up, the ending is warm and hopeful. A lovely story, full of festive cheer. Thoroughly enjoyable.

#9. I’ll be seeing you by @daretomarvel / renlyne

Nick Grimshaw/Harry Styles | 11,481

It’s 2028, and Nick’s bought a house.

My Rec: I love Ren’s writing and this Notebook inspired Gryles is a beautiful treat of a story, in which Nick starts buying little bits for his dream house. It’s hard to believe this story is just over 11,000 words because the world the author creates is so rich, detailed, layered and complex. The relationship between Nick and Harry has all of these gorgeous details and nuggets of history as it grows and develops, seedling-like, into something that might just be everything they’ve both been searching for. It’s a warm, hopeful, beautiful story but as it’s Ren, it manages to still tug at the heartstrings in the best kind of way. I read this again as I was putting my rec list together and did so with a lump in my throat, full of feels for the Nick and Harry of Ren’s universe. Gorgeous writing with bags of emotional intensity. I loved it.

#10. All I’ve ever had are love songs by @candybarrnerd / icarusinflight

Nick Grimshaw/Louis Tomlinson | 21,688

Things are finally coming together for Nick.

Nick is the DJ of his uni's radio stations, and he passively aggressively dedicates a song to Louis.

My Rec: Icarusinflight is another author who was already on my periphery from Harry Potter fandom who wrote their first Tomlinshaw fic this year and I was so thrilled to see them writing in this fandom and I’m very excited about their upcoming 2019 projects which also includes fics featuring the 1D boys in various ship combos. I love uni AUs and I hadn't read one for a while, so this was such a treat. I loved how Louis is sharp, sassy and confident but with niggling insecurities. Harry was so affectionately humorous in this story and Nick’s voice is wonderful. This is a really well-paced, enjoyable story with a hot af first kiss that deserves a mention all of its own. The music references, the tea and the cameos from various 1D members are all terrific and the writing is brilliant. Can’t wait for more from this author this year.

Bonus Rec: I was meant to limit this to just 10 recs but I also wanted to give a quick shout out to @nightwideopen. I’ve said this in previous rec lists before, but I am constantly impressed by the quality of @nightwideopen‘s writing and the way they explore things such as asexuality and gender dysphoria which can be harder to find in a relatively small fandom. I’d particularly rec so far (it’s alright) and i’ve been thinking lots about your mouth from this year, both Tomlinshaw.

Also no one get on my ass for this but my main beef w the tg*f fandom is the absolute lack of braincells when talking abt st*rember.

Hate them (him? Their gender marker on weibo is male so im keeping that in mind here) for the shitty nasty art they did in 2016/2017 that they never apologized for nor addressed. Criticize their sameface syndrome and the racism in the way the banyue arc was styled/drawn. But for the love of god if youre white don't say they're not a person/dehumanize them. And, honestly, the claims of fetishization do not feel like they hold up to me, as a queer man. Just because some of the art is sexual doesn't automatically make it fetishizing. Hell, just because theres either an obvious sexual power dynamic/top+bottom in some of the art doesn't make it fetishistic. Especially if the person in question is also a man (again basing this off the male gender marker on weibo) whose sexuality we don't know. (And, before I get anons: I do know that part of the fetishization comments are because of the way HC and XL are drawn in the manhua. I'm specifically talking abt the ns/fw art that's been done that people call fetishistic here.)

Like I don't like them. I think some of their art is nice. I definitely am judging for the shit they've done in the past and never apologized for. I don't support them because of that. But by god some of the things ive seen white gentiles say about them is a bit horrifying

“When I was a kid,” Zoro said, sitting up now to explain. “A lot of stuff was happening around me that I couldn’t control.”

He paused, his face becoming drawn and tight as he recalled the events of his past. Sanji waited patiently, watching as Zoro grabbed a handful of sand and let it spill back out onto the beach.

Sanji had never seen him look so lost in thought.

Billy didn’t miss the hint of annoyance in Steve’s voice, but how the hell was he supposed to explain to him that it was a big deal? About how the last time he’d had a boy over to ‘see his room’, he’d wound up in the hospital? There were risks involved when it came to visiting the Hargrove household under Billy’s name, and he wasn’t sure he wanted to let Steve sign that waiver.

Sitting on the hood of Billy’s Camaro, Steve stared out into the abyss of the quarry with a distant look in his eye. In one hand he held a cigarette, and in the other he held a half drunk beer that had warmed up too much for him to properly enjoy.

“What’s there to see?” Huffing on his own cigarette, he moved to stand in front of Steve and slapped at his legs until he spread them. Sidling in between them, he tried to play it cool and took Steve’s beer away from him, finishing it off in one messy gulp. “I got a mirror, a bed, and some hot chicks on the wall. Normal shit.”

That way, he got what he wanted out of the encounter and they got what they paid for.

Like him, if the rumors were to be believed. Which, of course, they weren’t.

His business life and pleasure life were entirely separate. Just because he could be coaxed into sleeping with someone for money when he was on the job did not mean he would readily sleep with anyone who asked. He had a career to protect, after all.

Despite how openly he advertised himself, a great majority of the people who called upon him for his services tended to call him at night, either too ashamed or embarrassed to hook up during the day.

Of course, traveling on the Grand Line made the seasons unpredictable. One day they could be docked at a beautiful spring island, and the next be sailing through a winter zone that was so cold one could hardly remember ever being warm. The winters were never any match for Sanji’s culinary expertise, though. He served the ladies coffees mixed with peppermint, chocolate, vanilla, and a variety of other things to keep it interesting, but they’d been traveling through a peculiar climate that had left him stumped with what sort of drink he ought to be serving his ladies.

It was a climate that felt like fall, but acted more like a harsh winter. The islands were clustered close together in this part of the Grand Line, and where they should have been in similar seasonal states, they differed. None of them had ever seen anything quite like it before, and when he’d asked Nami about it, all she could say was that it must have been a transitional area somehow; a part of the Grand Line that was stuck in a median where it was neither truly fall, nor truly winter.

“Look, can y’least give me a shoulder, huh?” Peter said as he lurched forward towards Keith, sounding breathless. “I kinnae make it on me own. ‘s dark. Kinnae even see where ‘m goin’.”

Keith paused and faced him, frowning, but relinquished himself to give him support. He heard a breathy sigh of relief blow past his ear when Peter slouched down upon him and grimaced miserably as he dragged the drunkard along the walk with one of his arms flopped across his shoulders.

“Did you ‘appen to see that girl at the bar?” Peter asked, gripping Keith’s shoulder loosely off and on. “Did you see ‘ow she kept givin me those looks? I coulda gone with her, but here I am, with you.”

“You are making me wanting to drop you,” Keith growled in warning, lowering the shoulder he had Peter propped on, already prepared to do so.

They should be so lucky to be given the chance to perform with the great Peter Saint Peter, somethingsomething extraordinaire.

Whatever his opinion was on the matter, though, it didn’t change anything about his situation.

He already had a few people interested in renting out their living rooms for his tour, but they wouldn’t be interested for long if he couldn’t find someone to support him.

“There’s got to be someone,” he hissed in irritation, scowling as he scrolled down his Facebook feed. “Tell me honestly, Kelley, does everyone in London bloody hate me?”

“Well, I know I do.” Across the room and sitting at his shabby excuse for a kitchen table, Kelley looked bored and utterly despondent.
