took a break from my interest in geopolitics to learn about Roma and African American solidarity and there is not a lot to find bc not much is written about the Roma people but I stumbled upon some articles discussing meetings between Roma activists and AfAm activists throughout recent decades, MLK Jr and Katarina Taikon (a Swedish Romani activist I’ve seen referred to as the MLK of Sweden) meeting when MLK was in Sweden. and this interview of this black American former civil rights activist who’s been fighting for Roma rights throughout Europe for a few decades and organised a meeting between Roma activists and AfAm civil rights veterans in 1995. there’s exchange, there’s hope
I’m gonna reread the interview with the civil rights vet bc he was touching on some stuff that I had hunches about and kinda confirmed some of my thoughts
there’s also an Afro-Romani community in Louisiana near where my aunts live. I’ll have to check it out when I make my way down there
