Liberta was the daughter of two guards and trained to follow in their footsteps, specializing in a spear like her parents before her. This training put her in close contact with the young prince sons of King Lupercalia, Lagravis and Lavertus.
As they got older, Lagravis and Liberta grew closer, carrying on a secret romance until they both turned eighteen. Liberta was no longer willing to keep their relationship secret, so in keeping with Lion Tribe tradition, she challenged Lupercalia to a duel for the right to marry his son.
And then beat his ass.
Lupercalia was a good sport about all of this and impressed by Liberta's strength and cunning (which he was no slouch on, either), so he gave her his blessing to marry Lagravis. When Lupercalia stepped down as Lion King, Lagravis took on that mantle, and Liberta became the Queen.
They were married for many happy years. Lagravis and Liberta had Laval when they were in their late thirties, but Liberta never fully recovered from that and passed away shortly afterwards.
But if you think that's where the story ends, you're wrong!
Due to Lagravis's wild and crazy youth (half of which was due to Lavertus and Liberta egging him on), he's had enough near-death experiences to tap into the Bear Dream Realm. So he still goes there sometimes to speak with Liberta, give her updates about Chima and their family, and get some advice from his wife. Needless to say, this is an incredibly weird thing to try and explain, so Lagravis doesn't really talk about her, and everyone assumes that it's because he's still mourning her. Only the Bear Tribe really knows what's going on, but they aren't saying shit.
Currently, Liberta's cheering Lagravis on to make his move with the new Tiger Advisor, Tormak, because she both thinks it would be funny and also wants her husband to be happy in the Waking Realm too.

Fun fact: in my soulmate AU, Scorm usually sleeps alone in his own little cave, even though he and Scolder are literally dating. He's like a cat that you need to let acclimate to socialization. He's gotta have his emotional support cardboard box isolated cave because sometimes he just wants to be alone and/or mad. And it works for him! Scolder and Rogon are still trying to strongarm him into at least accepting a mattress for the place so he's not literally sleeping on the ground.

Hybrids In Chima
Hybrids in Chima have a lot of problems to contend with: being outcasts by social conventions, complicated medical histories and conditions, and potentially even exile for the smallest of “crimes” if tried by the Lion elder council. Despite that, some have carved their niches into Chiman history in various ways.
Grainne the Griffin
Time Period: early Chima
Parentage: Eagle mother, Lion father
Pronouns: she/her (intersexed according to legend)
Sexuality: unknown
Appearance: (according to legend) brown feathers and fur, yellow bird eyes, taloned feet, feathered wings
History: Grainne was abandoned by both the Eagle and Lion Tribes upon discovery of her birth. She was practically raised by Chima itself, growing up in the wilds between the Tribes. When she became an adult, she discovered an Eagle man whose name has been lost to time, and the two became friends. He betrayed her, leaving her for dead, and her last words were a promise that he would pay for his betrayal. He died shortly after.
Legacy: Grainne has been remembered in a constellation named for her, made of seven stars that are too dim to see any time other than during the winter solstice. In the afterlife realm (the Bear Dream Realm), she has become friends with King Lupercalia and his partners as well as Queen Liberta, and she spends a lot of her afterlife starting fights for fun.
Reegull the Raven-Eagle
Time Period: modern Chima
Parentage: Eagle father, Raven mother
Pronouns: he/him
Sexuality: wouldn’t you like to know, weather boy?
Appearance: black and white feathers, yellow bird eyes, prosthetic left leg, hook for right hand, mismatched feathered wings, varying other prosthetics
History: Reegull is very good at causing a lot of trouble for everyone. Like some hybrids, he lashes out at the society that cast him out (even his own parents didn’t want him, which sadly isn’t uncommon among hybrids). He has studied alchemy and botany, among other sciences, and works for whoever he believes he can dupe into furthering his own goals.
Legacy: Reegull is known as both the creator of Chigull (also known as fake Chi) and as a biologist studying the Chi that can be found in plants around Chima (which he was trying to use for his own ends, of course).
Sparrmax the Scorpion
Time Period: modern Chima
Parentage: Scorpion parent, Spider parent (unclear who was what)
Pronouns: he/him (doesn’t understand gender)
Sexuality: questioning (considers himself too young to worry about that)
Appearance: dark blue carapace, gold detailing, light brown eyes, white fangs, tail with stinger, visibly a Scorpion
History: Sparrmax is a Scorpion who also happens to be half-Spider. The Scorpion Tribe doesn’t follow Chima’s example of how to treat hybrids, instead treating Sparrmax as a full Scorpion since he chose them over the Spiders. Unlike other Scorpions, he doesn’t have any venom. He’s got a good eye for things that other Tribes would want, which puts him pretty high in the chain of command when it comes to cross-Tribal diplomacy. General Scolder is considering naming Sparrmax as his Lieutenant, putting him in line to become the General himself when Scolder becomes the Scorpion King.
Legacy: Sparrmax is a beloved member of the Scorpion Tribe and is one of the first hybrids to be fully accepted and integrated into the Tribe, unintentionally paving the way for hybrids of other Tribes to be recognized as Scorpions.

Jasper's Guide to Tales of Chima
Post-Second Illumination, things have settled down...for the most part...in Chima under the watchful eye of Mount Cavora. A lack of immediate war is leading to political tensions rising within the Tribes, particularly those who have taken in other Tribes.
Lion City
In addition to housing the Lions, who have been the guardians of the Chi for as long as they’ve known, the Lion City now houses the Tiger Tribe and remaining Cat Guides. Elders in the Lion Tribe disagreed with housing any of Chima’s former enemies, despite King Lagravis’s attempts to bring unity to Chima’s people. The Lion City is ridiculously large in scale due to the Lion Temple’s own size.
Positions Of Authority
Lion King/Queen: This is an inherited position. The Lion King or Queen handles most diplomatic relations and makes most of the important decisions in the city. The current Lion King is Lagravis, aided by the Elder Council, the Lion Prince, his brother under the table, and his new Advisor.
Elder Council: This is an appointed position. The Elder Council is made of well-learned Lions from noble families. They advise the Lion King or Queen in all matters, but ultimately do not control decisions made. They appoint fellow elders after a certain amount of study, a certain noble status, and a certain amount of political influence.
Advisor: A new appointed position created for the Tiger Tribe to fill. The advisor is the Lion King or Queen’s right-hand man (or woman, or neither) in all matters, and can be trusted to make decisions in the Lion King’s absence (provided the Lion Prince is also absent). The current Advisor is Tormak.
Lion Prince/Princess: This is an inherited position. The Lion Prince or Princess aids the Lion King or Queen and acts in their absence. The current Lion Prince is Laval, though Lavertus also fulfills this role despite being formally stripped of all titles prior to his exile.
Croc Swamp
To both their own surprise and the surprise of the other Tribe, the Croc Tribe welcomed the Spider Tribe into their home. Their stone city, situated like a Croc’s head, houses the vast majority of their Tribe.
Positions Of Authority
Croc King/Queen: This is an inherited position. The Croc King or Queen handles diplomatic relations and makes all of the important decisions for the Croc Swamp. They have ultimate authority in the Croc Tribe. The current Croc King is Crominus, and the current Croc Queen is Crunket.
Croc Prince/Princess: This is an inherited position. Due to multiple Croc eggs being laid at once and often hatching together, there are often multiple Croc Princes or Princesses, though only one is chosen to inherit their parent’s position. The parents choosing their heir often causes rifts between the heir and their siblings. The current Croc Prince is Cragger (who is also the heir) and the current Croc Princess is Crooler. Crooler’s own children also all inherited the title, despite not all of them being crocs – Cruella, Cressida, Sprita, and Spring.
Croc General: This is an appointed position, often with a high mortality rate. The Croc General answers to the royal family and trains and directs the Croc army. The current Croc General is Crokenburg, who has many military victories under his belt and answers almost solely to Prince Cragger.
Spider Queen: This is an inherited position. The Spider Queen handles diplomatic relations and makes all of the important decisions for the Spider Tribe. She is incredibly beloved by her Spiders. The current (and only) Spider Queen is Spinlyn, though Crooler is respectably referred to by the Spiders as “the Queen’s Consort”.
Spider Princess: This is an inherited position. There are multiple Spider Princesses, though it’s unclear if any of them will inherit the Spider Queen position, given that two of them are Crocs. The current Spider Princesses are Cruella, Cressida, Sprita, and Spring.
Spider General: This is an appointed position. The Spider General answers to the Spider Queen directly and trains and directs the Spider soldiers and drones. This position is only appointed to soldiers (the Spiders with four extra arms from their back). The current Spider General is Sparacon, who is wholly devoted to Queen Spinlyn.
Eagle Spires
The Eagles aren’t too certain when they Vultures came to live with them (they were busy recording the Second Illumination and the circumstances around it), but they don’t mind. It gives them some extra hands for organizing and shelving books in their grand Eagle Library, along with direct eyes who had been around before Mount Cavora’s rising.
Positions Of Authority
Eagle Ruling Council: This is a series of appointed positions. The Prime Minister is the ruling elder and is generally considered by outsiders to be the actual leader, but every issue brought to the council is debated to such an extent that it’s a miracle if a decision is actually reached. Most of them would rather be in the Library instead of making political decisions. The current Prime Minister is Ewald, who is aided by his children, Eris, Ewar, and Equila, in actually getting the council to a decision point.
Vulture Leader: This is a position taken by whoever is generally agreed to be the best option. It’s not quite democracy, but it’s close. The Vulture Leader is in charge of diplomatic relationships and getting the Tribe to actually do something, which is way harder to do than it sounds.
Raven Junkyard
Ravens try not to miss a chance to turn a profit, and hey, the Bats don’t know what crime is, so they’re more than happy to help the Ravens in return for homes.
Positions Of Authority
King Of Thieves: It’s unclear how the Ravens’ King of Thieves comes to power, but Rawzom is currently it, which also grants a lesser “Prince of Thieves” title to his son, Razar. It’s rumored in other Tribes that it’s based on whoever the greatest thief is, but the Ravens are notoriously elusive about confirming or denying this.
Colony Leader: The Bat Tribe doesn’t have the concept of a king, but Braptor is the one who keeps the Tribe together and makes the biggest decisions about who they side with and what they do.
Gorilla Forest
When the Elder Council of Lions forbid Lagravis from allowing the Saber-Tooth Tigers to live in the Lion City, he reached out to the Gorillas alongside General Stealthor and secured a place for them to stay.
Positions Of Authority
Gorilla Elders: Not necessarily a council, the Gorillas listen to the wisdom of the elders who have come before them. When they need to send only one person to other Tribes for diplomacy reasons, it’s often Elder Grumlo, with Gorzan coming with him to assist.
Saber-Tooth King/Queen: This is an inherited position. The Saber-Tooth King or Queen is the leader and diplomat for the Saber-Tooth Tigers. The Saber-Tooth King or Queen holds ultimate power in the Tribe. Previously held by Sir Fangar and would theoretically be passed down to Princess Sibress, but she has refused the title.
Saber-Tooth Prince/Princess: This is an inherited position. The Saber-Tooth Prince or Princess, unlike the Princes/Princesses of other Tribes, holds no inherent political power. The only one with this title currently is Sibress, who is refusing a coronation to become Queen.
Saber-Tooth Generals: This is an appointed position and can be held by no more than two individuals at one time. The two Generals work in tandem to make decisions in the event that the Saber-Tooth King or Queen isn’t available. The two current Generals are Stealthor and Sirox, though Stealthor is bucking tradition and making the primary decisions to keep the Tribe safe, as Sirox is focused on trying to seize power.
Wolf Camp
Unlike the other listed locations, the Wolf Camp isn’t in any particular location for a long period of time. They are constantly on the move, something that makes it difficult for other Tribes to keep up with or locate them.
Positions Of Authority
Diplomat: This is an appointed position given to the Wolf who is voted “most personable”. The Diplomat isn’t a leader, merely the one who represents the Wolves among other Tribes. The current Diplomat is Worriz.
Rhino Canyon
Responsibility and the past rolls right off the back of the Rhinos, which is why they’re the only Tribe to welcome two additional Tribes to their canyon – the Scorpions and the Mammoths. The leaders of these three Tribes have become, to use a Raven phrase, “thick as thieves”. More of the Canyon has been excavated by the Rhinos to make more homes for their new friends.
Positions Of Authority
Rhino Royal: This is a position that the Rhinos usually forget exists. Rogon remembers coming from a “fancy” family, which is enough for the other Rhinos to accept him being in charge. Rinona, Scorm, and Maula help him keep on track.
Scorpion King: This is an appointed position that is granted to the Scorpion General upon the current Scorpion King standing down or dying. The Scorpions have no idea how gender works, so their leader is always a King, regardless of their theoretical gender. The Scorpion King has ultimate authority over the Tribe, but can usually be wrangled by the Scorpion General if they get out of hand. The current Scorpion King is Scorm.
Scorpion General: This is an appointed position. The Scorpion General leads the Tribe in the Scorpion King’s absence and becomes the Scorpion King once the previous one steps down. The current Scorpion General is Scolder.
Mammoth King/Queen: This is an inherited position. The Mammoth King or Queen handles most diplomatic relations and makes most of the important decisions in the Tribe. The current Mammoth Queen is Maula, who has also taken Scorm and Rogon under her proverbial wing.
Mammoth Prince/Princess: This is an inherited position. The Mammoth Prince or Princess aids the Mammoth King or Queen. The two current Mammoth Princes are Mottrot and Mungus, with Mottrot acting as his mother’s advisor and Mungus being the apparent heir of the Tribe.
Bear Caves
The Bears (and now Ice Bears) all settle in and sleep in a central cave. When they’re awake, they spend time fishing and swimming, though this is rare. Due to their connection to the Dream Realm, they don’t need to eat often and spend most of their time and energy in their dreams. The Bear Tribe considers the Lion Tribe to be their “Best Buds forever”, but have been noticing more and more that corruption is starting to seep through the cracks.
There are no positions of authority for either the Bear nor Ice Bear Tribes, but Bladvic handles diplomacy when necessary, being a close friend of Laval’s and keeping an eye on the former Crawler and Ice Hunter Tribes.
Beaver Dam
The Beavers are obsessed with fixing and building things, including their high-tech dam. It’s actually the most technologically-advanced part of Chima, but no one notices, because no one pays attention to the Beavers until they need something fixed.
Positions of Authority
Foreman: This is an appointed position based on which Beaver is the best at keeping schedules filled with work. This is also technically the Beaver leadership role, much to the other Tribes’ dismay. The current Foreman is Bezar, who has an uncanny memory when it comes to schedules but little memory left for anything else (which may even include his name).
