I think it‘s so funny how at this point it‘s kind of canon that Blackthorns have an obsession with Herondales, necromancy and Faeries

ok i want to talk a little bit about Cassandra Clare and the use of incest as a plot device because i always see stuff, mostly on tik tok, talking about how CC keeps continuously writing incest into her stories and about how weird it is. but the thing is, she only ever writes it to depict how thoroughly the adults in these kids lives abuse and manipulate their kids.
like in tmi with jace, sebastian, and valentine: valentine told jace that him and clary were siblings because valentine saw that for once in jaces life, jace might choose someone over him. so he lied and said jace has demon blood and was clary’s brother so that jace would think that he was dirty and vile and disgusting and wrong. that clary was good and pure and angelic and jace was evil and demonic, because how could he be anything else when he was in love with his sister, so he might as well join up with valentine. with sebastian, sebastian was so desperate for his fathers love and approval that even after valentine died, he wanted his love so he tried so hard to be like jace. he thought that loving clary would be the thing to fix him, because it was the thing that “fixed” jace. and jace had their fathers love. so did sebastian really have feelings for clary? probably not. but he couldn’t see any other difference between him and jace and how they were brought up other than jaces love for clary, so why wouldn’t he try loving clary too?
in tlh with grace, jesse, and tatiana: tatiana only ever viewed grace as a possession not a daughter, shown through the fact that she continuously used grace to further her own agenda and disregarded any and everything grace ever really cared about, including graces familial relationship with jesse. tatiana was willing to marry grace off to jesse the moment it suited her, regardless of the fact that grace always viewed both tatiana and jesse as family. because tatiana never viewed grace as family. grace was only every a possession, and tatiana bought and used her like one.
none of these depictions of incest are actually romantic. CC is not saying “oh haha brother/sister relationships so sexy” she’s using it to show just how terrible and fucked up these parents are that they would use their children and make them feel like shit in this way. she uses it to show abuse and manipulation and evilness, not to promote sibling fucking.

personally if tatiana hated shadowhunters and didn't want her child(ren) to grow up that way that much, she should've just gotten some werewolf to turn her while she was pregnant. depending on how she played it and with who she could've been still rich and evil and scary and spent time plotting her enemies' downfall and she wouldn't have had to worry about her son dying neither would she have had to go about wrecking up grace's life or making deals with hell-princes. it would've been a lot simpler. besides it's almost canonical that werewolves have free-provided access to therapy (that is the kind of stuff the praetor lupus does and i'm pretty sure it existed by then already if only in its earliest stages) so maybe she could've just, i don't know, been sent to do some group anger management sessions and she couldn't have gone evil at all.

The obsession that Cassandra Clare has with making 3 Lightwood children and then killing one off, like-
Anna✅ Alexander✅ Christopher💀
Eugenia✅ Thomas✅ Barbara💀
Alec✅ Izzy✅ Max💀
+(bonus) Gideon✅ Gabriel✅ Tatiana💀
Like why!?!?

*clears throat* Can we just talk about how unfair it was that Cordelia was the one who got to kill Tatiana? Like there were a million other people who were way more qualified.
I’m pretty sure most people, like me, were rooting for Grace. After all, she was the one that Tatiana hurt most by physically abusing her, making her into a weapon, forcing her to brainwash James which made everyone she cares about mad at her, etc. Not to mention that Christopher, one of her only friends, the only person who defended her, and the one who encouraged her to pursue her passion for science, had just been MURDERED by Tatiana! And like, Grace was RIGHT THERE with a knife to Tatiana’s throat! Then CORDELIA had to come and ruin everything by summoning Lillith! WTF!?
Jesse was another person who had been hurt by Tatiana. This bitch, who he thought cared about him despite her flaws, as a mother should, SOLD HIM TO BELIAL so he could be possessed and forced to murder people which he would never do under any circumstances of his own free will! The guilt the poor boy must have gone through because of this bitch! Although personally, I don’t think he would be capable of murder, but it would have been better than fucking CORDELIA.
Also, the idea of either Jesse or Grace doing it to avenge their sibling? 😭
My second choice after Grace would be Lucie, who would be furious both because of Jesse being possessed, and because she had just found out that Tatiana had been the one to ruin James and Cordelia’s marriage, causing both her brother and parabatai a lot of pain. It would have set the scene for a fascinating conversation between her and Jesse regarding how they both felt about Tatiana’s death (the same is true for Grace) because I need more Ghostwriter scenes. Also, if she killed her partially on Grace’s behalf, it would better showcase what could have been a beautiful dynamic that desperately needs to be explored further. I need these too to become besties immediately! Lucie, unlike her boyfriend, totally deserved to be a morally ambiguous character. She had so much potential for stabbiness, so where’s all the stabbiness? It’s so unfair that she never gets to stab someone ONCE because she’s a main character and therefore needs to be morally perfect even though people who grew as rich as she did are the ones most likely to be evil. Besides, she could have ordered a ghost to do it while Lucie herself was far away, giving her an alibi, and any witnesses would not have seen the ghost. Honestly my preference would be if Lucie and Grace teamed up to do it together in Jesse’s name.
EVEN FUCKING JAMES a would have been a better option, not that I would like it much. He was the one who was brainwashed since he was fourteen after all. He was the one who kept on accidentally breaking his wife’s heart because of the gracelet.
While Cordelia was still hurt by Tatiana’s actions, she was farther removed from the situation. But because sHe’S tHe PrOtAgOnIsT, she had to be the one to do it. Not even of her own volition, but because she was being manipulated by a greater demon. Imagine all of your protagonists being so heroic and morally sound that they can’t even neutralize someone as twisted and dangerous and inhumane and this bitch without being physically magically controlled by Lillith herself. Is there anything more boring?
And what really makes me angry is that she finally gave in due to the death of one Christopher Lightwood, a character with whom she had no established dynamic. If this was CC’s plan all along, she could have made it so they had at least one single fucking conversation alone??? If the main catalyst for Tatiana’s death was Kit’s murder, then practically ANY OTHER CHARACTER a would have been better. Cecily and Gabriel and the others were in Idris but, once again, there’s Grace, Lucie, James, Thomas, Anna, Matthew, etc. Hell, even Rosamund Wentworth, who arrives pretty soon after Kit’s death, knew him longer than Cordelia!
*Ahem* Thank you for listening to my PSA

You know since Chain of Thorns I've been thinking the same thing and it's frustrating that Cassandra didn't take full advantage of Grace's character.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Grace is the only character within the main group who is a villain (? or rather a villain who was redeemed (? (it's been a long time since I read the books and I don't remember everything, sorry if I'm wrong)
But what I mean is that Grace was a different character from all the characters that Cassandra introduced us to, she was an ally of the villain. She helped hurt the protagonists but at the same time she was also a victim.
Grace has always been alone. Her family got killed in front of her and she ended up in the hands of a crazy woman who only abused her and used her for her plans. Her only companion was Jesse who ended up having a tragic death and Grace was left alone again, she had to do what Tatiana told her.
I have always felt that it should have been Grace who ended Tatiana, she and Jesse are the ones who suffered the most under her upbringing. If Grace had been the person to finish off Tatiana it would have been much more enriching for her character development and also a kind of debt repaid to the main group for everything she did to them.
It still bothers me that it was Cordelia. It's like the typical show where the protagonist has to kill the villain just because she is the protagonist. (no hate for cordelia, it's just that she has already done many heroic things and shined in many situations. This one in particular should have been Grace's or at least together)
And yes, James didn't have to forgive her if he didn't want to, he didn't owe her anything. No one in the group have to.
My point is that Grace had a lot more to give as a character than what we saw in the book and I'm going to be obsessed with that fact.

Tatiana Blackthorn only became such a bitch because Will didn't return her crush when they were kids, Tessa literally saved her life, and Gabriel killed their father because he turned into a giant worm who killed her husband. These are the most ridiculous motives to hate an entire family, mentally abuse a boy and take advantage of her innocent adopted daughter. Oh and, Tatiana, your crush on Belial is just creepy and disgusting

Grace Blackthorn really is the gothic heroine of The Last Hours. She grew up in Blackthorn Manor and Chiswick House, both sprawling gothic manors that are representative of this once-great Blackthorn and Lightwood past of glory and societal importance. But with Benedict Lightwood being a sicko and Rupert Blackthorn being dead (and a ghost), we see that all Chiswick House and Blackthorn Manor represent now is the darkness of Days Past, existing as seats of their families’ respective tragedies, of Tatiana Blackthorn’s own adolescent trauma, and the way the past suffocates her. Classic gothic setting, check!
Then we of course have the psychological trauma and repression that defines Grace’a life. Her growth and natural development are stunted because of the demonic ensorcellement charm forced on her. She is at the mercy of Tatiana and is abused physically and emotionally. Moreover, she’s denied the chance to grow as a normal girl should - she is made to be “a blade” and has to put aside all her other interests and passions such as Shadowhunter training, science, and mathematics. The darker sexual elements of the gothic cannot be understated in Grace’s character: her demonic power from Belial is literally seduction. She also has the typical gothic tyrant looming over her: Tatiana, the Dracula to her Lucy or Miss Havisham to her Estella. Repression, restraint and erotic elements, check!
But lastly, all gothic fiction has some kind of weird, dark shit going on in the back. In The Last Hours, Grace doesn’t has a spouse hiding in the attic. Rather, she has brother hiding there. A ghost brother. The bracelet scheme is just the icing on the cake, because the bracelet not only transforms Grace into a demoness bred by her malicious environment but simultaneously into the flailing Gothic victim: young, female, pale, lithe and helpless in the face of more sinister evils. The lines between nature and nurture blur when it comes to Grace’s actions. Grace finally escapes the curse of inherited darkness and repression when she confesses her crimes in Chain of Thorns, choosing to throw herself to the mercy of the world and break free of the shackles holding her back, no matter how protective they may have been before.

Hiya all - some tlh updates from a behind the scenes of one of Cassie's events!
Tatiana was the most interesting villain to write because she's such an example of a certain kind of bitterness where someone has had something bad happen to them and they ruin their life blaming it on other people
Her favorite Jordelia scene is The Whispering Room < 3
Mina will not have powers exactly like her older siblings and we will learn why in CoT
We will get to see Alastair use Cortana in CoT because apparently demons are attracted to it and try to weasel it from him lmfaoo (and yea Cordelia did leave Cortana with him)

tw: bad things people do to women sometimes
So in TID, the Magister's plan centred (not just included but centred) around assault and forced childbirth and he'd had this planned out well before the person he planned to do it to was even born, and we're going around like, "Tatiana Blackthorn is the most twisted villain in TSC!" Honey, no. No. No, she's not.
