Shiroku Pub and Ryugu Palace

Truly going through all of my drafts tonight or something.

The deity of the main shrine at Tatsuhime Shrine is Toyotamahime, a sea creature who could also transform into a human woman. She was a princess and daughter of Wadatsumi who's loser husband, Hori, ditched her after finding out she was a monster girl. During Golden, some more allusions to Toyotamahime and her tale were added in-game, namely to Shiroku's new nighttime snack bar.

At night time, the protagonist can visit Shiroku Store which turns into Shiroku Pub. During the day time, the sign reads 四六, pronounced shiroku ofc, meaning 4 and 6, and the shop UI has a frog or toad lookin' guy on it. This refers to a saying about how Japanese common toads have 4 toes on its front legs and 6 toes on the back -- but this is only at a glance, it's actually 5 and 5 lol.

Per Persona Club P4, the store originally started as a pharmacy of sorts, and it took its name from the saying about the 4/6 legs on the common toad as merchants used to peddle 4/6 toad oil as effective medicine. (Through six degrees of something, this can also be correlated to cattail [the fictional city of Inaba's plant], which can then be linked to the Hare of Inaba myth too lol.)

At night time, the shopkeeper turns the store into a bar called Snack Shiroku, or Pub Shiroku. Additionally, the signage changes, and Shiroku is now written as 紫路宮. This is also pronounced as shiroku - different kanji with the same sounds but different meanings. The first character means purple, which likely is why the night time store UI is purple. (There's also a vague connection between the color and the toad oil bit, but uhh.) The 2nd character is like saying road or path, which... I don't think is particularly important (or I'm dumb idk) off the top of my head. And the 3rd character means palace, which we will tie back to our tale of Toyotamahime.

Toyotamahime's tale starts off with Hori (a descendant of the Imperial line from Amaterasu) looking for his brother's lost fish hook, and so he ventures to the undersea palace of Ryugu Palace in search of it. He marries Toyotamahime and hangs out at Ryugu Palace for a while. After, he gets his brother's fish hook back (it was stuck in a fish's mouth, oops) and returns to the surface with Toyotamahime.

Golden's changes to how fishing unlocks involves the protagonist taking the role of Hori (well, ok, not really, but maybe kind of?). The old man by the Samegawa River mentions losing his fishing hook and sends the protagonist on a quest to retrieve it somehow. The protagonist can find the lost hook by going to Shiroku store at night when it transforms into Shiroku Pub (the "palace"), and getting it from the shopkeeper's pet fish. As in the tale, her pet fish Akihiko also has a fish hook stuck in his mouth, and he gives the protagonist "Ryugu" stones in exchange for feeding him insects. I guess this also makes it the 2nd time the protagonist gets to to be a stand-in for the loser husband (the other being Izanagi, of course).

Thanks for replying! For my thoughts, I also want Kaname's condition to be touched upon. The alkakurei event definitely seems like the place for it to happen, since Kaname is one of the things connecting the 2 units together (HIMERU and Tatsumi). HIMERU's original goal was to imitate Kaname so that when he wakes up, Kaname can take HIMERU's place, right? I predict this won't happen. I don't think HIMERU would just leave so quickly, not when he's made bonds and strides as a Crazy:B idol...

Rightttt i also dont think oremeru would give up on his newfound home, but I can see happyele positioning the event as if him leaving Could be a possibility. I need to see oremeru and kaname just talk man. I need hiiro, aira and kohaku to befriend kaname, rinne to have a heart to heart conversation with himeru about his plans for the future and just about being the eldest sons. Tatsukana reunion... As you said, kaname is the one uniting the 2 units the most besides, well, the amagi bros. But, and this is my personal subjective opinion, the himeru lore is my favorite thing regarding alkakurei...it'd be such a missed opportunity to not do something with it for the big event. Especially since it's like the one thing that hasn't been resolved yet. Veeery curious who the 5 stars would be though. I assumed rinne and hiiro as the leaders, plus they wouldn't have Another tatsuhime tour, but who knows.

HiMERU didn't know how he ended up alone with Tatsumi Kazehaya, but there they were, alone in the conference room, and Tatsumi had decided to sit next to HiMERU. HiMERU had misread the meeting time and showed up 30 minutes early, but didn't have anything else to do so he took a seat.

Not five minutes after that, Tatsumi had joined him, ever the early bird and of all the places he could have sat, he chose the seat directly next to HiMERU. Logically, HiMERU knew it was because Tatsumi was under the assumption that he was Kaname, who had evidently been close to Tatsumi before the revolution came to a screeching halt.

Tatsumi kept trying to make small talk with HiMERU, asking about Crazy:B and how he was adjusting to being a in a unit, if he needed anything at all. HiMERU felt his eyebrow twitch in annoyance at the other man's voice, but nobody else would be showing up for at least 15 minutes, meaning HiMERU had no choice but to try and make small talk with Tatsumi.

It took all of 30 seconds of having his phone face down on the table trying to pay attention to whatever the priest was going on about before he was fed up. HiMERU stood up out of his chair and pulled Tatsumi's stupid face in and kissed him, hoping that the action would at least shut him up for the next 15 minutes.

He pulled away and let Tatsumi drop back into his chair.

"HiMERU is going to get a drink of water." He announced as Tatsumi's face lit up and his hand went to his mouth. "He recommends you do the same, Tatsumi Kazehaya."

Wandering around the apartment. Tatsumi sighed to himself as he tried to think of what to do to pass time. Instead of hanging out together as initially promised, HiMERU was in his room working. Tatsumi was quite understanding with stuff like this, so he couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty currently. He wanted to be selfish, and take that stupid laptop away. HiMERU promised they’d spend time together.. even if they still will in the end, he wanted the attention now. It’s not common that Tatsumi gets to come over especially with how hard it is for their schedules to meet.

Upon being lost in thought, he ended up finding his way back to HiMERU’s room unknowingly. Staring towards the door, the priest slowly peeked inside. Listening to the faint sound of fingers typing away at the keys of a keyboard. Though he immediately froze as the sound came to a sudden halt. Followed up by a deep sigh.

“Tatsumi… you know HiMERU is working.”

The blue haired idol said as he listened to his boyfriend shuffle anxiously outside of the room. His back may be facing Tatsumi, but he could already imagine that gentle, yet anxious, expression. HiMERU still occasionally got upset with the priest, but that doesn’t deter the fact that he still ultimately loves Tatsumi. It was understandable that the idol was afraid of upsetting HiMERU nonetheless though.

“I’m sorry, HiMERU-san… i’m just getting impatient I suppose.. i’m only human, and God knows even I get a bit antsy at times.”

Tatsumi pointed out as he remained between the door and the frame. Expression remaining low as he fiddled with the doorknob. Only to look up as he noticed HiMERU patting at the spot beside him.

Akin to a puppy, Tatsumi beamed and raced over to his boyfriend. Nearly knocking the laptop from HiMERU’s lap as he jumped onto the bed.

“Mm…”

Annoyed…

“HiMERU only needs about twenty minutes more before he’s finished, Tatsumi. Can you be patient??”

HiMERU questions as Tatsumi snuggles up comfortably against his boyfriends side.

“I can, yes…. Sorry for disturbing your work, HiMERU-san.. truly, I can leave if you wish.”

Tatsumi replies, practically resembling a scolded puppy with how retriever coded this man was.

With another sigh leaving HiMERU’s lips. He turned his head and pressed a kiss to the priests cheek.

“It’s alright, Tatsumi. Now do me a favor and lie down.”

HiMERU said, just barely glancing towards Tatsumis confused expression. The priest seemingly paused as if he didn’t understand, or required context.

“Do as HiMERU says. HiMERU cannot work if you are going to be up against him and in his face.”

The blue haired idol pointed out in a slightly harsher tone. Which earned quick acknowledgement. Though in reality, it was true HiMERU didn’t want Tatsumi to be so close to his face whilst he was trying to work. But, also it would be easier to multitask. He was almost finished, so typing out these last couple paragraphs and uploads with one hand should be a breeze.

“Apologies, HiMERU-san..”

The priest says in such a disappointed tone, it nearly broke HiMERU’s heart. Just twenty more minutes please God it’s all he needs..!!

“It’s alright, Tatsumi. HiMERU just needs to get this done.”

HiMERU replies as he waits for Tatsumi to get comfortable beside him. Setting the laptop aside for a moment, he moved Tatsumi so the others lower half would be within his direction. It was simply more comfortable for HiMERU since he didn’t want his arm being held up, or his elbow in Tatsumi’s face.

Bringing the laptop back onto his lap. He then casually reached back over and slipped his hand beneath his boyfriends sweater.

Tatsumi, shockingly unknowing of what was happening, was quick to tense up. A smile instantly stretching across his features with his hands being brought up to his chest.

“H-HiMERU-san..? I thought you didn’t want a distraction..?”

“HiMERU is simply multitasking.”

The taller idol states as fingers begin wiggling across Tatsumi’s belly. The priest im which was quick to burst into bubbly giggles. HiMERU focused on Tatsumi for a moment, watching the way his boyfriend adorably covered his mouth with his sleeves at times, or how Tatsumi just barely squirmed or wiggled beneath the tickles. Gently scratching over his partners navel, he smirked as Tatsumi’s giggles grew louder. Pressing his sleeves over his face to muffle the sound. HiMERU gave a satisfied chuckle.

“This is much easier.”

He says as he settles himself. Continuing to type away at the keyboard with his free hand, whilst the other tickled all over Tatsumi’s tummy. The multitasking turned out to be quite difficult actually… On occasion did his hand slow to a stop, simply resting atop Tatsumi’s tummy. While sometimes his typing hand would stop, as his attention diverted to the giggling idol. Wiggling fingers trailing to the priests side where he began to squeeze and tickle.

“PFFT— Ehehe Hihimeheheru!”

“HiMERU is aware you can handle this until he is finished.”

The idol stated over Tatsumi’s giggling.

And that of which.. he did. Spending the next twenty to thirty minutes was HiMERU diverting his attention between work, and tickling his boyfriend. Though thankfully it got finished.

Lightly scratching at Tatsumi’s lower tummy, he scrolled up on the laptop and uploaded the document after giving it some proof read. The sound of Tatsumi’s bubbly giggles were enough in itself to help him stay focused near the end. As if they were some form of white noise. Retracting his hand, he closed the laptop and set it aside.

“Alright, HiMERU is finished…. Hm? Did that tucker you out, Tatsumi?”

HiMERU questioned as he pulled a slightly panting Tatsumi onto his lap. The priests face was tinted pink from how long he had been giggling and wiggling around for.

“Hehe.. i’m fine.. i’m glad you were able to finish your work though.”

He says as he instantly tries cuddling up to HiMERU only to be stopped as hands gently grasp his face. A harsh stare returning his one of confusion.. did he say something wrong?!

Thankfully all worries were washed away as HiMERU leaned forward and practically showered the priest with kisses. Holding his boyfriends face, HiMERU smiled as he left a kiss anywhere he could. Tatsumi in turn laughing out of pure joy, in which, HiMERU returned. It wasn’t often Tatsumi got to hear his partner laugh.. it made his heart swell.

“ ‘I’ apologize, Tatsumi… HiMERU invited you over, and ended up getting caught up with work. He hopes you can understand that work is still important even when we’re together, but HiMERU will make time for you. “

The idol explained after delivering his bout of affection. Tatsumi now shifting to sit up, he practically straddled his boyfriends waist as he faced HiMERU on his lap. Arms gently resting around his partners shoulders.

“I do understand, HiMERU-san.. I apologize too for bothering you.. I was just excited to be with you is all. I know work is important, and I tried distracting myself but…”

He trails off, seemingly disappointed in himself for appearing as such of a nuisance. HiMERU quickly recognized this and pressed a swift kiss to his partners cheek.

“No, no. It’s alright, Tatsumi. HiMERU still got his work done.. you hadn’t affected it in any way.. don’t start getting all sad now..”

HiMERU says as fingers gently begin wiggling against Tatsumi’s sides. A smile of mischief making its way to HiMERU’s features as light giggles began bubbling out of the priest once more.

“Aehehe i-i’m nahahat!”

He exclaims between giggles, bringing his arms down, and jabbing his fingers into HiMERU’s ribs. The taller idol immediately gasping and jerking his hands back to grab Tatsumi’s.

“HiMERU-saaan..~”

A playful whine..

“I think I deserve something for being so neglected you know.~ Ah, how sad I was… being ignored by my own boyfriend.. boo…”

“You have to be kidding—“

“Oh- but i’m not!~ Come on HiMERU-san I never get to see you smile and laugh.. plus you’re always tickling me!! Pretty please.~”

Tatsumi pleaded as HiMERU stared towards the other in slight shock. Seriously.. seriously?! Was he really going to do this?!

“….alright…”

God dammit.

HiMERU sighed, but Tatsumi’s excited expression was truly a blessing in itself.

“But not for long.. HiMERU doesn’t enjoy it as much as you do, Tatsumi.”

The taller idol huffed as he flopped backwards. Blue hair only becoming all the more messy, as Tatsumi excitedly seated himself upon his partners waist. Eyes shining, he grinned and motioned with his hand.

“Arms up, HiMERU-san.~”

“No.”

“HiMERU…”

Tatsumi huffed as he grabbed at his boyfriends arms. The duo practically wrestling for a moment before HiMERU finally decided to give in. Appearing as annoyed as ever as he raised his arms and gripped at the bottom of the head board.

“HiMERU better be loved for doing this for you.. Kazehaya Tatsumi..”

The idol practically grumbled as Tatsumi giggled in response.

“I do love you, very much actually.~”

Pushing his boyfriends shirt up, he teasingly wiggled his fingers above HiMERU’s torso. Watching as golden eyes filled with slight anxiety. Though his expression remained neutral. HiMERU was incredible at hiding his emotions, but Tatsumi could tell he wanted to smile.

“Lets see… how about we start from the top, and work our way down.~”

Tatsumi hums as he reaches upward. Watching the way HiMERU tightened his grip on the headboard. Finally resting his hands and lightly tickling at his boyfriends clothed pits. Knowing how well HiMERU could keep himself composed, Tatsumi’s main goal was to find that weak point. Although he did earn a growing smile.

“Ah.. you’re so quiet HiMERU-san.. I know you aren’t as ticklish but I feel a little envious.”

Tatsumi jokingly pouted as fingers continued scratching around HiMERU’s underarms. The silence given only applying to Tatsumi’s theory. HiMERU was really trying to keep himself at bay..

“Hmm… how about here..”

The priest thought out-loud as his fingers trailed from HiMERU’s pits, to his ribs. Where he began curiously exploring. Wiggling his fingers up and down, and gently digging into the gaps. An exhale leaving HiMERU as he bit at his lip. How frustrating!!

“You’re really trying to keep yourself composed.. i’m impressed, HiMERU-san.~”

Tatsumi hummed as he gently skittered his fingers along the sides of HiMERU’s ribs. Watching that smile grow wider as he trailed his fingers down to his boyfriends tummy. Lightly clawing at the skin as giggles finally broke past HiMERU’s lips.

“Pfft— heheaha, Kazehehayahaha! D-Don’t gehehet tohohoo cohohocky!”

The blue haired idol giggled, hiding his face against his arm as Tatsumi practically resembled the sun. Beaming, and skittering his fingers all over HiMERU’s tummy.

“You’re giggling! HiMERU-san!! Hehe, you sound so cute talking to me like that!~”

Tatsumi hummed as his fingers continued to explore. HiMERU’s tummy and sides seemed fo earn sweet giggles.. though as Tatsumi trailed lower, HiMERU’s body jolted. The priest pausing after giving a light squeeze at his partners hips.

“T-Tatsumi—“

“Himeeeruu-saaan.~ Did I find a ticklish spot?~”

The idol teased as both hands began squeezing at his boyfriends hips. HiMERU’s reaction was like music to his ears. Rather quick was he to burst into laughter. With all the build up from earlier, he couldn’t help it..

“Hahahaehe! Sh-shuhut ihihit Tahahatsumi!”

HiMERU laughed as he kept a tight grip on the headboard. Unfortunately beginning to squirm beneath his partner, much to his embarrassment.

“Hehe, look at you all shy.~ HiMERU-san is so adorable!”

Tatsumi exclaimed as he continues squeezing and wiggling his fingers around HiMERU’s waist and hip bones. A hand experimentally trailing lower to squeeze at his partners thigh. The loud yelp escaping HiMERU had them both frozen. Staring at each other in shock, HiMERU quickly covered his mouth with a reddened face.

“A-Alright.. perhaps this is eEEHEHEAHAHAAHA?!”

HiMERU’s complaint was unfortunately cut off as Tatsumi began squeezing at his partners thigh. Swiftly turning himself around, he attacked at both legs now. Squeezing and wiggling his fingers. He couldn’t help but smirk from HiMERU’s hysteria.

“TAHAHATSUMI EHEHAHAHA—!”

“Wow.~ I’ve never heard you laugh so hard! How sweet.~ I’ll be sure to remember this, hehe.. tickle tickle, HiMERU!~”

Tatsumi exclaimed as his fingers slipped beneath his boyfriends legs. Gently scratching underneath HiMERU’s thighs as the idol laughed and kicked his legs against the bed. How embarrassing.. he was sure no one has ever seen HiMERU in such a state!! Though Tatsumi was different, and the other seemed so happy.. even if HiMERU was a mess of embarrassment. Though Tatsumi’s could only go on for so long before HiMERU pulled the plug.

“I feel that God truly has blessed me with such a scenario, honestly!~ Your laughter is so beautiful— AH?!”

Tatsumi yelped as he was snatched off his boyfriends waist. HiMERU panting heavily as he yanked Tatsumi off and tossed him down onto the mattress beside him. Meeting his boyfriend face to face, wide purple eyes were quick to soften.

“Your face is so red.. poor HiMERU.~”

Tatsumi teased as he gently brushed some hair from his boyfriends face. Leaning forward, and delivering a quick peck to HiMERU’s forehead.

“You handled it quite well until the end, if that makes you feel any better.~”

The priest smiled as HiMERU gave Tatsumi a playful glare. His panting soon coming to a stop as he regained his composure, slowly sitting up, he practically pounced on Tatsumi. The priest bursting into a loud squeal of surprise as fingers attacked his unsuspecting torso.

“HiMERU will not let such a thing go unpunished.~”

The taller idol teased as Tatsumi surprisingly scrambled away from his boyfriend. HiMERU too was shocked by this. To see how swiftly the priest had jerked away from him and hopped off the bed. So.. were the both of them feeling playful now? Basically the definition of zoomies actually..

“Ah.. trying to run now, Kazehaya? HiMERU sees what game we’re playing…”

He says with a smirk as Tatsumi’s anxious smile returned. Quickly rushing for the bedroom door.

“W-Wait, HiMERU-san!! I can’t run as well as I used to!!”

The priest exclaimed as they both commenced in chase. The duo practically running all over HiMERU’s apartment, followed up with playful threats and laughter. In the end, the day spent truly was worth the wait..

Kon! I vaguely remembered he had a backstory and dang! It’s actually pretty good! And he will almost immediately be exiled to Comic Relief Island despite the characterization he got in these chapters…

I also miss Kubo’s gag humor, which decreases as the series goes on. Maybe he thought the story was more whimsical at first, but as it became more serious less whimsy was needed? It’s not gone, but we don’t get gems like this:

Also, Orihime is back! I was hoping she’d show up again soon. She’s so cute. Plus, a huge shoutout to the Tatsuhime in this arc. They’re such a cute ship.

Also. That’s not how weight works Kubo.

In all seriousness, if I could get Kubo to listen to me on one thing, it’d be not increasing Orihime’s bust size in FB, TYBW, and the epilogue.

We get it Kubo. She’s busty. And this isn’t a criticism at Orihime’s character. She’s clearly more than her physical appearance. This is a criticism of Kubo’s design choice. Orihime is already busty, and Kubo increases that. For what purpose? We all know why in our heart of hearts.

Also - a quick note. Orihime’s friends are in this chapter, Chizuru and Others. I dislike Chizuru’s portrayal. She’s “perverted” for comedy purposes which I dislike as a trope. Kon falls into this category too. So suffice it to say anytime there’s comedy about a woman being bothered/groped, know I’m sighing and rolling my eyes. As this is by far not the last time this trope will impact Orihime, I’ll save my lengthy thoughts for another day.

Moving on…

Orihime says she “smells Ichigo” which is supposed to be funny (I’m with Tatsuki on this one: Girl, what?) and Kon appears to flirt with her (Tatsuki looks ready to murder. No one touches her girlfriend!).

Importantly Orihime is the only one who noticed Kon isn’t Ichigo. Though I’m more surprised the others didn’t notice. Do they really think Ichigo leapt up to the third floor window? Does Tatsuki really think Ichigo hardcore flirted with her and Orihime?

I think this shows Orihime is smarter than one might give her credit for. Yes she’s hopelessly in love with Ichigo, but she’s not stupid.

Also, here’s Ichigo freaking out about kissing girls. And while Ichigo says it’s embarrassing, the paneling doesn’t make it seem like flustered-embarrassment, more like mortified-embarrassment. Look. Here’s my thesis. Kubo is 100 percent not writing Ichigo to be gay/bi but he accidentally made Ichigo into a gay/bi icon by refusing to show him engage with women. He blushes at women, sure, but does he connect with them, really? Or are most of his emotional connections with men? I’ll have plenty of time to prove my thesis. And there’s so much evidence (I’m only half kidding). He also has a lot of Ace coding… look. I’m going to make all of these characters LGBT+ and no one can stop me.

But seriously… Kon! His backstory is so interesting! His character fits in well with the early themes Kubo is establishing! Will we ever learn more about Kon (no). Will we ever learn more about Kon’s past (no). So much potential… But he’s relegated to comic relief instead. I have to guess Kubo meant for that to happen give how quickly Kon becomes a gag, but I wonder if he ever meant to pick up mod-souls again. We have a brief mention of them in TYBW, and that’s it to my memory. Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I don't really pair tatsuhime romantically for someone who talks about them so much. I like seeing yaoi of them too I'm on the fence... fans tend to not care for them as separate entities. But I'm invested in the inherent horror of their relationship and how messed up they both are. I hope they never get anyone involved in what they have HiMERU's hatred lead by projection onto a man who is already all too aware of his sins in an attempt to absolve himself of some of his own guilt can be homoerotic romantic?date got me crunk. It is more comedic to me than anything. Kai wanted to protest, given that he hated being a lion plushie, but arguing with Hakamada was a lost cause. So Kai compromised with the name "Night Lion" (   ).

Since super-jumping is rather meh when compared to all the other Quirks in the world, he needs a team. Also to save him from literally drowning.

The Karakura Gang will have reincarnated to reassemble the five-man band (Tatsuki's gonna help her child bestie friend this time around! Even if she has to be a quirkless Support Hero this time around!), and Keigo and Mizuiro will probs be quirkless or something.

Just because I can, Tatsuhime's gonna happen this time around, Keigo stays with Mizuiro cuz he doesn't wanna be alone, and Chad will stick with Uryuu. Their powers might probs be reincarnated as Quirks, as well.

...And also, some Shinigami (probs from Squad 12) fucked around and found out, recreating the Mod Souls. So Ririn, Noba, and Kurodou are reborn, in a sense, with the same names and powers as before. Kai finds out about this, and finding out that said Shinigami's gonna use them for evil (or I can have them be the same organization, but a subdivision, that tortured and abused Eri, two birds with one stone), Kai and his team (and Best Jeanist, all hands on deck) convince the Mod Souls to help them kill their creator (may or may not take the recipe, if available).

Does Best Jeanist already live with someone? If not, he probs roped Kai into living with him as well. Do they have the money and space to take in three basically-kids like all four of them once were? The Shinigami probs put them in gigais or did a lil' Grave Robbing. 

Unknown to pretty much all the living, Kai still keeps in contact with SS and the soul cameras from the 686.5 one-shot through a combination of Urahara, Mayuri, and Ichi finagling/harassing them to let him have one, too. Ichigo was pretty much the only familiar face he's known in 200-or-so, so they or may not have been something more. After TYBW, He's been learning all sides of his powers since. Ichi decided to grow out his ass-long hair, and once he died, the Hollow side of him bled into his appearance like Artbook or 2nd Anni Ichi (but also with the two horns from when Shiro was kicking Ulqui's ass).

Kai is also in the fight against All for One. Asshole's been escaping them for almost since Quirks were first formed.

Over the years, the ability to see ghosts has developed to be a Quirk. Once they die, their epic powers are locked away for if or until they become Shinigami or Arrancar (like Starrk and Lilynette) and unlock their Zanpakuto. Both the Quirkless and the Quirk people have Equal Chance of having or not having spiritual pressure and unlocking epic powers, just like everyone else.

The book had a plain cover with just the title written in a cursive gold font. 

Rei opened it and thumbed through the pages before settling on what looked like a drawing of some sort from Kaoru’s perspective. 

“Do you believe in vampires, little Kaoru?” he asked, turning the book to face him.

Instead, Tatsumi leaned his cane against the wall and sat next to HiMERU. He seemed hesitant before speaking. “Kaname-san, if it’s okay for me to call you that now--” 

HiMERU doesn’t even think as he moves his hands to Tatsumi’s throat, straddling the other man. “Keep his name out of your mouth or ‘I’ will remove it for you.”

Ok hi Tatsu, Kana, Hime brain rot 🥳🥳

I often think about what IF Kaname does wake up from his coma and recovers. I doubt they’d do that for the sake of the story even but.. the whole point was that Kaname would take HiMERU’s place in Crazy:B. He’d have to leave all the people he’s adjusted to, and grown close with. I genuinely think HiMERU considers Crazy:B as a small family that he’s never really had. Nonetheless how Tatsumi would react. He thinks this man is Kaname. Someone he loves more than anything. Seeing HiMERU on stage makes him more than ecstatic, he’d support HiMERU no matter what because he thinks this person is Kaname. Tatsumi truly believes this person is thriving, and despises him for what happened to them during that announcement at Reimei.

TBHH.. my happy ending for this is that Kaname would refuse to return to idol work. “HiMERU” is a name he feels suffocated by, he wants to be himself, and his brother took on that role more perfectly than he ever could. HiMERU really did become that dream idol that Kaname wanted to achieve for his mother, and knowing Kaname? He would put his brother first. He would never take HiMERU away from all the work he’s done and the relationships he’s made. Regarding Tatsumi, his biggest issue, or his FORMER biggest issue is that he was too trusting, too forgiving. I still believe he would forgive HiMERU for the way he treated him, he’d be understanding, but still hurt to know that he, himself, caused Kaname to be hospitalized for so long. I genuinely think Tatsumi would be put in a horrible headspace after reuniting with Kaname, but he would get out of it. Especially with Kaname’s support, because Kaname would never blame or hurt Tatsumi over what happened. Even HiMERU understands that it wasn’t Tatsumi’s fault, no matter how frequently he degrades Tatsumi over it.

Just.. the idea of TatsuKana & Hime spending time together after the ordeal.. sniff 🥹 tbh I love both as ships ( TatsuKana / TatsuHime ) and I have both endings like mapped out in my head but they’re all happy pleas/:;,()$$&

And Orihime’s past is upon us at chapter 3. I really forgot how fast it happened.

Also, this arc gives us some more details about hollows and gives us some more character building. Even though the details of what hollows are seem to become irrelevant as the series goes on, it’s still neat.

I also enjoy Ichigo and Rukia training together (I miss that from later arcs).

We also get our proper introduction of Orihime and Ichigo, and true interactions between them. Orihime is as precious as always, and I like seeing protective Ichigo. Though he does get a bit exasperated with her nonchalance regarding her injuries. Also, RukiHime begins!

From a reader POV (pretending I’m the target demographic of teenage boy), I can see how Orihime is gearing up to be a love interest. Her clear crush on Ichigo is classic in shounen, but (more importantly) she’s shown as someone Ichigo is protective of. The reader is supposed to identify with Ichigo, meaning they’ll feel protective of Orihime too. Ichigo protecting someone isn’t unique to Orihime, but she is the first character to get this treatment.

Now this is an important scene:

I do see a lot of I/H fans say they’re childhood friends, but Ichigo is clear that they’re not close. It’s not the biggest deal, but they are near strangers. He goes on to say he’s only recently learned that Orihime was the same girl from this incident.

Aside from ships, Kubo is setting us up for a kickass reveal. As someone who hasn’t reread the series in awhile, I actually had a “woah!” moment…

I think the build up to this reveal was excellent! And leaving the chapter with this page is perfect suspense. I know hollows are the ‘corrupt’ human souls, but a lot of that nuance disappears later in the series. It was actually surprising to read this “reveal” because it kind of doesn’t mean anything by the end of the series…

Also TatsuHime.

And there are more cute Orihime fantasies involving Ichigo. She really is precious. I love her.

This arc is a great way to tell us about hollows, Orihime, and the soul chain (which comes back!). Especially in these earlier arcs, you can tell Kubo was keeping notes of what he’d brought up, because it’s inevitably come back again. Great writing.

But I do want to talk about this scene:

I’ve seen some cool parallels on here from much smarter people than me - they highlight how Orihime’s brother issues and Rukia’s brother issues are somewhat similar. While the parallels might extend further than I’d give Kubo credit for, I can’t deny them outright. Ichigo’s speech to Sora isn’t verbatim what he gives Byakuya, but the feeling is the same. Byakuya does say he’d let his own sister die (we’ll see if he specifically says he’ll kill her. If memory serves, he says he’d kill her himself if need be… oh my beloved Byakuya. So dramatic). Man, Ichigo is just correcting family issues left and right in the beginning of this series! I’m actually a bit sad some of these familial elements disappear later on… but this narrative of Ichigo challenging the status quo, of him using his grit and charisma to make people change for the better (Sora letting himself be sent to soul society, Byakuya eventually saving Rukia and mending his bond with her, rapid fire: Uryu, Renji, all the captains…) this is quality Bleach. The story eventually gets bogged down in character fights and we lose these themes and the focus on characters. It’s so nice to have this time to spend with Orihime and let her shine while Ichigo’s mostly in the background.

Anyways - I think this arc gives us so much for Orihime’s character! She’s such a strong kind-hearted person.

More proof of Orihime’s love for Ichigo in Kubo’s paneling here… and also some great insight into Orihime. I think it’s so easy to brush her off as an air-headed big boobed love interest when she’s really a compassionate, caring, empathetic person. She doesn’t want other people to be sad, she tries very hard to make everyone happy… she’s so sweet! And some may say that she’s cliche or whatever, but so what??? Not every character needs to be Super Unique and Total Different. She embodies the cliche well, filling it out and bringing her own charm too. I really don’t have a problem with her. Also, I like that Kubo later makes some of her traits flaws so we can explore her character later. It’s neat!

Also… Kubo, can I ask you a question?

When the heck did Ichigo and Orihime have a conversation about her hairpins? We don’t need to see it onscreen, but Ichigo made it clear earlier in this arc that he doesn’t know her very well. I guess Orihime would be the nervous type to blurt this kind of information out if Ichigo even mentioned them casually, but you expect me to believe Ichigo noticed those hairpins when he didn’t notice the giant bruise on her leg? I can see why some people think they’re better friends at the start of the manga than they’re supposed to be. Kubo doesn’t even seem to remember from chapter 3 to chapter 6.

Overall, great arc. The pacing and plot were cool, and I adore Orihime. Plus, plenty of TatsuHime and RukiHime. I also forgot how much I like Kubo’s old art style. His new one is slick and all, but there’s something about these designs that are just fun. Definitely nostalgic.
