You Are In Love

This is the first of my Taylor-Swift-inspired Ross one shots! If anyone has a specific song in mind I am more than happy to write something based on it. I thought I'd start with one of my personal favourites. Enjoy!

Word Count: 1,291

No warnings, just sickly sweet fluff.

The snow is light as it falls onto the brushed material of my coat, like little pieces of confetti. Hand in hand, our footsteps are slow as we stroll through the streets of New York. It's 2AM, around three hours since the boys finished their sell out show at Madison Square Garden. It's still, peaceful, but there's a buzz surrounding us, the kind that makes you smile uncontrollably for no specific reason.

"Can you believe it?" I whisper, looking up at him.

The expression on his face is something that I wish I could bottle forever and wear on a chain around my neck. His eyes sparkle like a boy on Christmas morning, reflecting the city lights either side of us, his lips perpetually curved upwards in the most gentle of smiles. There's a sense of disbelief in the way he looks.

"No, I can't." He shakes his head with an airy laugh, squeezing my hand extra tight for a second. "I just keep thinking about when we first started the band. I wish someone could have told us that we were going to end up selling out MSG."

I hum in response, hooking my arm through his and holding his fleece-covered bicep tightly. He presses a kiss to the top of my head as we carry on towards our hotel. There's the kind of silence that only comes with snow - muffled, like you're in a bubble, or a snow globe.

"Look," He points as we near the hotel. "They've turned them all on now."

I smile when I follow the direction he's pointing in, spotting the Christmas lights we'd spoken about earlier. They weren't turned on when we got to the hotel earlier that day, but now they were brighter and more colourful than ever.

Without another word, he guides me in the direction of the Christmas tree, coming to a halt in front of it.

"Ross," I raise my eyebrows at him with a smile, "It's nearly 3 o'clock."

"And?" He holds me at my waist with one arm, the other holding my hand, gently starting to sway.

There's no music, just the gentle fall of snow and each other, and somehow, it's enough. He spins us around and our childish laughter pierces through the bubble that seems to have formed around us.

"I'm so proud of you." I say quietly, biting down on my bottom lip as I grin. His eyes meet mine and take in every detail of my face.

"Thank you." He nods affirmatively and I shake my head at his inability to take a compliment.

"Seriously," I smile, "I'm really, really proud of you. My heart feels like it could burst."

"I hope not. You could do with getting that looked at."

"Ross, I'm trying to be earnest." I giggle at his teasing, his face breaking into a smile as he pulls me impossibly closer. Our faces are inches apart, his dark eyes soft, fixed on my smiling lips.

"I love you." He says, meeting my eyes. "I'm really glad you were there tonight."

"And I love you. I wouldn't have missed it for the world."

We start to sway gently again, enjoying the peace of being alone after a day of being surrounded by people. It feels like the biggest comedown after a day of adrenaline and anticipation.

"We should go to bed." I say after a while, brushing my fingertips against the nape of his neck. He hums in response, before pressing his lips to mine. They're warm, despite being out in the cold, firm and gentle and... home.

We check back into our hotel, his hand in mine again like we might lose each other if we let go. It's quiet, and there's something so dystopian about it as we walk through the hallway.

"It feels like we're the only people in the world right now." I whisper as he slides our key card through the door handle.

"Wouldn't that be perfect, hm?" He smiles softly, opening the door for me and letting me through.

I laugh quietly as he collapses on the bed, sighing heavily. It's unbelievably late, both of us changing out of our clothes and Ross immediately getting into bed.

"I think this might be the most tired I've ever been." He calls to me from the bedroom as I take my make up off, stood in front of the mirror in only his t-shirt, my hair scraped up into a bun. I look tired, maybe the worst I've looked in a long time, but I'm the happiest. My face glows in a way that I'm not used to, the warm feeling in my stomach comforting.

He's got the covers pulled around him when I go back in, scrolling through his phone with a smile.

"What're you smiling at?" I grin as I make my way around the bed, plugging my phone into the charger and folding up some of our clothes. His eyes follow my every move as I do so.

"Just a text from my mum, she said she enjoyed the show. Our best one yet, apparently."

"I agree." I pull the covers back and get into bed beside him, the bed sheets cool on my bare legs but his warm, coarse fingertips soon warming me up, tracing them up and down my thigh as I snuggle into him.

I lie on my side and he turns to do the same, facing me.

"It doesn't feel real." He says quietly. The darkness of the room makes it difficult to make out his features, but the bars of moonlight peeking through the curtains cast shadows over his face, his eyes still as sparkly as ever. I would know those eyes out of a million.

"I know." I smile, drawing circles on the forearm he has around my waist now.

"I know I'll think about this for the rest of my life. I don't think I've ever been this happy."

I swallow heavily as he speaks, taking in the way his tired eyes crease when he smiles, the vibrations of his low voice felt throughout my body.

"But we could be in the middle of nowhere, and we could have performed to a crowd of three people, and I'd still feel this happy." he brushes a curl out of my face. "Because at the end of the day, I'd still be falling asleep with you, and waking up with you the next day."

I breathe deeply as I listen to him, wondering how I ever got so lucky.

"As long as I get to do that for the rest of my life, I'm happy."

"And you will, forever and ever." I hold his hand tightly under the duvet. "You never need to doubt that. We'll be telling our babies about tonight." He laughs at that, the rumble of his laughter making me grin.

"Come on, we need to sleep." I remind him. "I love you."

Leaning over, I press a kiss to his soft lips, feeling him sigh beneath me.

"And I love you."

I fall asleep in seconds, the adrenaline of the day taking it out of me. The feeling of the mattress shifting is what wakes me up around an hour later.

"Sorry, did I wake you up? Sorry, darlin'." He frets, wincing as I rub my eyes and check the alarm clock.

"No, it's okay. Are you okay?" I ask, meeting his gaze. He looks wide awake still, it's clear he hasn't slept a wink.

"I just..." he looks up at the ceiling for a second. "You're my best friend."

"Your best friend?"

"Yeah." He looks at me, sincerity scattered through every inch of his expression. "You're the love of my life, you know that, but... you're my best friend."

I smile at him, my eyes lingering over his every feature.

"You're my best friend, too."

So it goes tells the story of the 2014 Victoria Secret After Party: ''All eyes were on Harry and Taylor when they turned up. [...] The drinks were flowing until 3am, when they snuck out of a rear exit five minutes apart to avoid being pictured together." In context of the 2015 timeline 1989 (I know places established they wanted their relationship to go private) and 1D’s Four (with Stockholm Syndrome) had just been released. The last time it was played was in the last Rep show in Tokyo, (9:38) with 2 other rare songs for the Rep Tour: I Know Places and Wildest Dreams. Harry Styles was in Japan that month and wrote Little Freak before he left Tokyo.

So it goes has only been played live 9 times, ever. For a fan favorite love song this should further confirm it is an emotional song to Taylor at the time. She's also played it at particular times and paired it with particular songs:

June 22, 2018, Wembley. Where Harry lives. First time played was 2 months into the tour. Taylor also had Niall Horan as a guest in an NYC shirt. The same night Harry was very emotional, he sung Still the One in Madison Square Garden. Taylor later had that suit in the Me! video. It’s unclear why this date was so special, though it was 1 year and 2 days after his step-dad passed.

Lyrics

The first verse sets the scene, similar to the articles Harry and Taylor are the focus of many, drawn to each other and wanting to keep their connection secret.

In Hoax, Taylor has a similar lyric to magician "Your sleight of hand"

'Gold cage, hostage to my feelings' refers to being trapped by love. Similar to Stockholm Syndrome, which was released only 2 weeks before the VS party, Taylor is trapped in a gold/gilded cage (a luxurious prison) by love.

So it goes is a lyric in Style. In the chorus Taylor lets us know that when they are away from others they have great chemistry. She also refers to lipstick, referred to in many 1989 songs. Taylor is described as a 'bad/good girl often, she talks about it in Miss Americana and also in:

Style: And I got that good girl faith and a tight little skirt

Only Angel: That she's gonna be an angel, just you wait and see, When it turns out she's a devil in between the sheets

The afterparty was in Basement bar. The illusionist/magician references are enjoying knowing that she and her muse will leave together without others knowing. 'Make all grey days clear' tells us the muse is British.

[Bridge] You did a number on me But, honestly, baby, who's counting? I did a number on you But, honestly, baby, who's counting? You did a number on me But, honestly, baby, who's counting? Who's counting? (One, two, three)

The bridge tells us more about her relationship with her muse, they have a history, have hurt each other before and are wanting to move on. Though she says she is letting it go she is also keeping score. At this point the events of Red, 1989 and most of the one direction songs about TS had transpired between them.

In Grapejuice Harry starts the song with 1, 2, 3 and ends on 1 (I.e let’s start again) here Taylor also counts 1, 2, 3 after “you didn’t a number on me but honestly baby who’s counting”

TATE MCRAE RELEASES NEW SONG AND VIDEO FOR “It’s ok I’m ok”

Today, multi-platinum pop sensation Tate McRae releases her new song “It’s ok I’m ok” alongside the official music video via RCA Records. Written and produced with hitmakers Ryan Tedder (Taylor Swift, Beyoncé), ILYA (Ariana Grande, ROSALÍA) and Savan Kotecha (The Weeknd, Ellie Goulding), “It’s ok I’m ok” marks a new chapter for the star. 

Featuring an irresistible chorus, the pop-infused offering is accompanied by a killer dance visual. Directed by Hannah Lux Davis (Doja Cat, Charlie XCX) and choreographed by Sean Bankhead (Cardi B, Lil Nas X), the high-energy music video follows an unbothered Tate strutting through city streets. Her presence is both commanding and seductive, drawing you into her world without wanting to look away.

୨୧ One summer while in California, she and her cousins went to a karaoke bar that was letting teens in, and her cousins forced her to go up and sing.

୨୧ She internally freaked out as he walked up to talk to her, and gave her his number, wanting to sign her to his label. ୨୧ After going home and calling her parents, she was soon moving to California and was signed to Island Records and being mentored by Justin himself. ୨୧ The Hughes family was sad to see her moving so far away from them, but they really supported her career choice, especially Jack who was extremely proud of his best friend. ୨୧ In 2017, she released a song called ‘Dead’ and the following year, she released her first EP titled ‘As She Pleases’. ୨୧ In 2019, when he was first drafted to the New Jersey Devils, Emersyn was one of the very first people outside his family that was told.

CBS is embracing the Piano Man.

Ahead the Super Bowl, the network announced it would stream Billy Joel’s 100th concert at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, April 14 at 9 pm ET/PT. The two hour special, titled The 100th: Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden — The Greatest Run Of All Time, marks the first time a Billy Joel concert will air on a broadcast network. It will be filmed at his March 28 show, and will also be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.

The news comes as Joel is set to end his MSG residency this July with his 150th career performance at the New York arena. His first came in late 1978, when Joel, who was touring on behalf of his 52nd Street album, headlined the venue for his first time. In early 2014, he began a monthly residency as MSG’s first “music franchise,” and has sold out every show since. He’s shrewdly changed up his set list from performance to performance, and recruited special guests like Tony Bennett, Bruce Springsteen and Olivia Rodrigo.

The final show of his residency is set for July. It will be his 104th show in the series, and his 150th performance there. “I’m kind of flabbergasted that it lasted as long as it did,” Joel said at a news conference last year. “My team tells me that we could continue to sell tickets, but 10 years, 150 shows — all right already!” All told, the record-setting residency is expected to gross more than $250 million, according to Pollstar. Joel has no plans to retire, however; in fact, he’s scheduled to criss-cross the country later this year, headlining baseball stadiums with opening acts like Stevie Nicks, Sting and Rod Stewart.

The televised concert announcement arrives a week after Joel premiered his new single, Turn the Lights Back On, live at the Grammy awards, also on CBS. The romantic ballad, produced by Freddy Wexler, was the 74-year-old singer’s first original song in 17 years. Sample line: “I’m late / But I’m here right now / And I’m trying to find the magic.” Despite prolific stage work, the last time Joel shared new music was way back in 2007, when he released the love song All My Life and protest tune, Christmas in Fallujah.

The CBS/Paramount concert special is a co-production of Sony Music Entertainment and Enliven Entertainment. Steve Cohen, Barry Ehrmann and Paul Dugdale will serve as executive producers, with Dugdale also set to direct. Sony Music Vision is the distributor. It follows other popular televised concert events, including those featuring Elton John, Adele and Taylor Swift.
