TCR AU #4: D’n’D AU (2)

Welcome to part 2 guys, gals, and non-binary pals!

Let’s get this show on the road! Today we’re talking characters!!

Sidenote: So, 90% of my experience is with Pathfinder, so that’s what I’m using in regards to race and class and suchforth. D’n’D and Pathfinder are two separate things, but I felt D’n’D was a better name for the AU.

Name: Louisa Player: Louise (DM) Race: Catfolk Class: Vigilante Backstory: Louise is the (older) twin sister to Duke. They grew up in a primarily Catfolk village by loving parents. When they were young children, their parents were viciously murdered. Duke took the time to mourn, while Louisa viciously clung to the idea of vengeance. The twins separated due to conflicting wants and desires- Duke settled down as a sort of “sword for hire”, deadset on helping and defending those who couldn’t do it themselves, while Louisa searched tirelessly for their parents’ killer. Years later, she finally has a lead and asks Duke for help, just this once. Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Name: Duke Player: Baron/Humbert Race: Catfolk Class: Paladin Backstory: Duke was happy to live his life, working for little pay to help those in need. He couldn’t protect his family, so he’d protect as many people as he could. But when his sister Louisa finally came back into his life after nearly 10 years, he couldn’t deny her ask for help (or the gold she provided when he originally said no). With the help of his employees/friends, they’ll travel across the world to finally find peace. Alignment: Lawful Good

Name: Moon Player: Muta Race: Half-Orc Class: Bloodrager Backstory: Moon doesn’t have much of a story to tell. He keeps it close to his chest except after a few gallons of ale. He was raised in a human family, educated beyond measure. Then his Orc family took him away and all he knew was violence and bloodshed. He was caught between two worlds for a long time until he settled on being a mercenary for hire. It wasn’t until Duke came along that he knew he wanted to do something more. Something better. With a healthy dose of brains and a great disregard for rules, Moon is willing to do anything to help a client. (Side Note: Has a weakness for little kids) Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Name: Aubert Player: Toto Race: *Tengu Class: Rogue Backstory: Aubert came from a distant Tengu village, hidden in the mountains. He talks little of it though, only sharing bits and pieces of the life he lived there with the friends he surrounds himself with. All is known is he left, and he committed theft after theft in order to survive and get where he is. Now, he uses his talents to help Duke and Moon, to pay for the meals when Duke refuses payment. Now with Louisa in the picture, he’s seeing different sides to his oldest friend, and wonders what this adventure will do to everyone. Alignment: True Neutral

Name: Hero Player: Hiromi Race: Human Class: Ranger Backstory: Hero stumbled across the group during their journey to cross the sea and just... Never left? With nothing better to do, and instantly bonding with Yuki, Hero decided she would be just that- A hero. Alignment: Neutral Good

Name: Kore, Pirate Queen of the 8 Seas Player: Persephone Race: Merfolk Class: Swashbuckler + Witch Backstory: Merfolk are xenophobic and harsh people. With amazing musical ability and a dangerous beauty, they lure many a sailor and innocent victim to the cracks of their islands and devour the bodies as they fall to the sea. Kore was born the most beautiful of them all, but with a compassionate heart and no singing voice. She was forcibly chased from her home, her family, her life, and sought out a new way of life. That’s how she met Captain Killigan. The two women were inseparable, and Killigan helped Kore find her calling- benevolent pirating. Killigan died, and Kore conquered the seas in her name. Now alone, and hiding her heritage with an innate magic, she sails for hire and battles other pirates competing for her crown. She was supposed to be the Ironwilled Queen. Until a certain Catfolk came onto her ship. Alignment: Chaotic

Name: Yuki Player: Haru Race: **Skinwalker (Elf) Class: Druid Backstory: “H-Hello? Is this the Cat Bureau?” Yuki was just looking for help. Little did she know she’d get dragged into the advenure of a lifetime, with romance, bloodshed, intrigue, and deeply personal problems. Indebted to Duke and Louisa, Yuki travels with them to help the siblings find their parents murderer and seek vengeance. But is that what the pair really need? Working constantly as a voice of reason and constant motivation, Yuki hides a dangerous secret from her friends. Maybe one day, she can tell them about the animal skin she wears. And warn them to let sleeping dogs lie. Alignment: Good Neutral

*Tengu= Bird people **Skinwalker= Shapeshifters (Haru looks like an Elf rather than a human)

Merry Christmas Ray!

Ms. @raythecomputerart , your Secret Santa request had both D’n’D with the Lost Ladies AND Pirates. I tried to combine them both, but honestly, I just wanted some light-hearted shenanigans with our group. (I’m sorry it’s so short D: )

And pirates. Because yes, pirates are ALWAYS a valid addition to character backstories.

I hope you love this!! Thank you for being such a good friend, even though I haven’t been! You’re a cinnamon roll, too good, too pure for this world!

“... And as we stood on the deck of the ship, Elloise having hauled me up into her arms from the wine-dark and vapid waves, we saw it. A flash of light, a rumble of thunder, and barreling through the storm like a Gargoyle of the Under, another ship… Baring the Jolly Roger-”

“Okay, time out,” Louise interrupted, giving a bark of a laugh as her girlfriend choked on her next words, arms dropping as she lost her momentum.

The others turned bemused eyes towards Louise, putting both within the spotlight. Persephone, as her arms came to rest on the table, at least had the sense to look a little embarrassed, though entirely put out. A story told by Persephone was not one to be interrupted, as all at the table knew to be true.

“What?” she asked, sarcastic and feigning ignorance, a combo only she could master well. Louise laughed, resting her chin on her palm.

“I know Haru let us come up with our own story for how we met, but I don’t think you can throw “pirates” into everything, Persephone,” she answered, sounding all the world like she didn’t actually mind, but had to argue for argument's sake.

Eyes turned to Haru, caught mid-sip of water, causing her to freeze. She finished the drink and shrugged, a half smile on her face.

“Okay, I know Louise said pause, but is this conversation happening in character?” she asked, glancing between the two. They did their own glancing, then decided maybe too many eyes were moving about.

“... Actually, yeah, I think this is,” Louise laughed.

“Alright, then we should probably go from there. I will add, as Haru, your friend, that I think the pirates are a hella cool idea. As Haru, your DM, please God don’t make me plan out a future sea battle.” 

The table rippled with laughter, voices overlapping each other to assure the already-greying twenty year old they wouldn't stress her out too much more.

“If that is the case,” Louise laughed, “I guess Persephone is just going to have to dig her own grave. I say to Kore, “Pirates are hardly a believable part to this story. And completely inaccurate.””

“Renaldo’s gonna cut in,” Muta laughed, “and say, “I’ll have you know, pirates are the only believable part of this story. And by far the best part.””

“Of course you would side with her, Renaldo, you were a Captain yourself,” Toto responded, his character Aubergine ready to provoke another fight.

“That’s what I’m saying, that’s why it’s the best part!” Renaldo is going to tell you, Toto. Don’t think you can provoke me that easily,” Muta snickered, though his smile was a tad more forceful than usual.

“Cutting out all dramatics, we do have a story to finish? One that I, as Elloise’s brother, deserve to hear on how she married a runaway pirate queen?” Baron cuts in to prevent the ensuing argument, the others easily slipping back into character.

Haru gets a wry little smile to herself, sitting back as she watched the others bicker and argue over their characters, proud of the story she weaved for them. She sips at her water again, jotting notes every once in a while when the characters say something worth using against them. She felt a tad disconnected, wishing she wasn’t just-

“Elloise stops everyone and turns to Yuki and says, “Yuki, what do you think of this entire mess?” Louise suddenly asks, all eyes turning to face Haru.

The DM blinks, a slow smile forming on her face as she’s invited to join the game. Though, she never needed the invite. Louise’s smile, a bit too knowing and observant, tells her everything. She never was out of the game.

“Well…” Haru begins.

TCR AU #4: D’n’D AU (1)

D’n’D AU!

While I would love to say that the group recreates certain fanfics, I think a lot of fun can come from taking a fantasy story/dynamic that you’ve wanted to mess with and forcing other characters to do it!

Also, there’s that post about a movie, filmed with two different casts? About a DnD group? That’s essentially this.

(pssst. I’m making this into 3 parts)

Main Characters

Louise is DM for the campaign. She’s Humbert’s (older) twin sister, and she’s been doing this for years and yet has never come across a group like the current one. Still, life’s an adventure with barely concealed personal issues. Her only goal is just to get her players from Point A to Point B.

Character: Louisa (and Literally Everyone Else)

Humbert/Baron was the one to propose starting the campaign. Originally is just started with his two best friends, but later the group expanded to include his third best friend/GIANT NERD CRUSH (Haru), Louise’s giant nerd crush (Persephone), and Haru’s friend Hiromi.

Character: Duke

Renaldo/Muta was absolutely against joining the campaign. Especially since everyone had a crush on someone in the group, and too many personal issues were making its way into his and his character’s life. Ah well, he’s the best at giving advice, even if it’s the most unconventional.

Character: Moon

Toto is a bit too hot-headed with Muta around, but when Baron isn’t lamenting over Haru, or Louise is too busy lowkey lamenting about Persephone, he manages to get the most done. He can’t take his own advice regarding Hiromi but at least he tries, which is better than the von Gikkingen siblings.

Character: Aubert

Persephone never intended to join the campaign, but Haru offered her a spot after Persephone stood up for her in class. While the campaign seems to be giving her anger management counselor a stroke, she’s on top of the world. After all, she needs more reasons to think outside the bloodied box.

Character: Kore, Pirate Queen of the Eight Seas

Hiromi came into the group as the designated mom friend. Which was a shock, since in normal life she was the most reckless, pushed by her older brother Muta to complete any dare. Still, she’s having fun reigning in the characters and working with Baron to discuss plans

Character: Hero

Haru was invited to the group by an eager Louise, a nervous Baron, a grumpy Muta, and a frustrated Toto. She brought her own chaos members into the group, and now she’s working through her life one campaign session at a time. 

Character: Yuki
