TDATT HIT TWEET (they're not bashing the film with that caption btw)

The annoying part about Tom vs film Twitter discussion is that:
We had actors on strike last year, telling us that booking roles IS HARD. It's rare to book a lead role, let alone in a sucessful franchise. Being "just" Spider-Man is impressive af!
He's 28! That's a baby in Hollywood. George Clooney got his big break at 34. Harrison Ford at 35 and he's still acting at 80+. Brendan Fraser kinda left and came back in his 50s. Freaking out about his career at 28 is chronologically online. No career is gonna be the same.
Awards are cool but can we remember that they are subjective, political and (most importantly) not a representation of someone's talent? There are many young actors who are brilliant but have never been looked at by the Academy. That doesn't mean that they're not good or that Timothee and Austin are better. There are also many talented actors who got Oscars for boring ass forgettable movies. So focusing that much on a fave getting an Oscar and not on "Did I genuinely love the movie/performance?" is really superficial and a toxic behavior from "real cinephiles" now. Do these people even enjoy movies at this point? No seriously, if X and Y get an Oscar and Tom doesn't then so what???? Is he good on his movies and are the movies good are way the relevant questions.
Tumblr media
I agree with everything you said Anon.
1. This is exactly the same thing I was saying! 💯 The Actor's (AND writer's) strike of last year should have taught most of us something. You're (general you) out here making fun or putting down actors because they're doing Spiderman franchise films, when most struggling actors out here would KILL to be in Tom's position! But, because he's not doing whatever indie film you want him to do (Btw, the TDATT, Cherry, and TCR erasure is REAL 🤨), you all wanna complain and b*tch and moan about it. 🥴
2. Thank you 👏🏾 28 is a BABY. It's especially a BABY for White, privileged males in Hollywood. There are plenty of actors still working in their 30s and even into their 80s and 90s. There really isn't as much of a time limit on men in Hollywood as there is for women. 😩
3. Totally agree with this! Awards are great, but just remember that sometimes, there are a lot of politics that goes on bts with them as well! There are some actors who deserved to win the Oscar, but DIDN'T. There are some actors who have NEVER been nominated for an award at all, but they're still GREAT actors! Then, there are some who DID win Oscars and really aren't the best actors lol 🥴 The combinations are endless. Like you said, stop worrying about all this other stuff... just enjoy an actor and his or her WORK, regardless of if it wins awards or if it makes a ton of money at the box office. Just enjoy the experience! 😁 When you start appreciating films as just pieces of art, I think this need for this to fit into this neat little box will go away.

He could mean about his career. As of now, it seems like he peaked with IT, and everything since then has been kinda meh. He’s gone up for different parts and seems like he didn’t get them, then had to take whatever was left over. It might seem to him like some of his acting peers are doing better than him. He’s type cast in horror, can’t break free. I see the talent in him in his performances, he has the looks, and the height…but it kinda seems like for the past 5 years or so, good roles have alluded him. Hopefully, Nosferatu will help change that.
I love questions like these!
We all know IT launched him into worldwide fame and put him on the map. Let’s take a look at his filmography after 2019. Nine days is a good movie but not many people know about it because it was a small film that made less than a million dollars. TDATT had a lot of hype and even oscar buzz..... until the movie premired. His role was small he probably had 30 minutes of screen time. During 2020 he chose to film Clark over The Northman. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it was a bad choice and he should’ve done The Northman instead. He had more say in Clark and I know how proud he is of it but I think this is what started a “stall” in his career. Naked Singularity was filmed in 2019 but wasn’t released until 2021 and made 14k at the box office. Eternals, small CGI role that people either don’t know it was him or are barely finding out. Barbarian, a beloved role within the fandom, but once again a small 30 minute role. For as big as he was in 2019 he has now been relegated to play small supporting characters. Burn all my letters, my favorite film of his but it’s a Swedish production so not many people saw it. John Wick, main villain but still a supporting role. He picks up some steam with this one. BKW, his first big leading role in a long time! Unfortunately it had zero dollars for promotion.
“It seems like he peaked with IT, and everything since then has been kinda meh” YES I agree. That’s why I keep saying Nosferatu will be a comeback for him. Imagine if he hadn’t gotten the role and he only had BKW and The Crow this year.... yikes. Talk about a fall off. What he chooses to do after Nosferatu and how he takes advantage of that will be interesting to see.
Yeah I remember him saying he has lost out roles in marvel and star wars. I’ve actually spoken about how other actors like Butler, Powell, Elordi, Keoghan, and Mescal have risen while Bill’s career stalled. In my opinion, he needs to take a break from the dark characters and step away from the horror genre for a minute. He has already solidified his place as a scream king so now he needs to try new things. Maybe a drama or try out for a tv show. It’s crazy how big he was before Covid hit yet his filmography doesn’t really show it.
Thanks for the question!

I just imagined Sam having THAT kind of control on Z love life and threw up in my mouth a little why would you say such horrid things anon
The only things that I believe is possible is that she got so emotionally involved in Euphoria season 1 it caused them to grow apart, at the same time he also was filming things between tdatt and chaos walking reshoots + personal stuff he was going through from feeling lonely because of working abroad so much and loosing his paternal grandfather during the same time period.
That anon graduated from the wattpad university
Here's the thing the reason I tend to avoid the breakup discussion is that the most widely accepted narrative seems to almost exclusively blame euphoria, and by extension zendaya, for the breakup. I don't think it's fair to draw those conclusions since, as I've mentioned before about many adjacent things, we know very little about the actual situation. I can see it being a factor, but also imo, if that were the only or the biggest issue, it probably would have been resolved relatively easily

And you know a thing that pisses me off about some Tom stans that love to ignore everything? It’s that juggling a superhero and indie career isn’t hard! FP doesn’t have a problem with it and you can argue it’s because her role don’t carry as much weight as Tom’s but according to insiders she’s the lead on thunderbolts and previous to that she filmed Dune and another indie, and after that she went ahead to film the movie with Andrew. Heck, even TC, you can put Dune in the same level in terms of filming time and the weight of being a lead and he managed to film like 3 movies in the meantime. He filmed Dune 2, then filmed Wonka right after, and then went ahead to film the biopic. It takes a lot of work commitment that I think Tom doesn’t have. And if he does, he doesn’t want to show it.
His team is supposed to be the one to fix the schedule time for each of his movies so he has the time to do whatever needs to be done in between. But if there’s not contract or anything upcoming, then they won’t be able to figure out a schedule that works for him. And now he is stuck for another 3 years of this nightmare.
the problem with Tom and Spider-Man is that it can’t be just one fucking movie, it has to be one or two avengers movies as well that need to be shot in the same year or just a couple months later or before his movie so it occupies a lot of his time, not just shooting them but also fucking promoting them, in 2019 he did tdatt and was supposed to do 1917 but couldn’t bc of cw reshoots AND spider-man press, something people never wanna mention for some reason 💀 he did Cherry in late 2019 and was scheduled to do Uncharted right after and then nwh all in a row basically so Tom was on a schedule that most actors consider their normal but I guess that back to back of quite heavy movies did a lot of damage bc after that everything slowed down HEAVILY…so that’s why I’m so ????? when I see the possibility now of him saying yes to this kind of shit again, especially after not even fulfilling the goals he kind of set for himself as well after finishing nwh, like it makes zero sense

Playing the devil’s advocate here: I can see where that account is coming from and I somewhat agree. Like yeah, Uncharted was fun and light-hearted but that was an action-adventure movie much like Spider-Man. Listen, I’m not a Timothee stan and I hate when people compare the two of them but for the sake of the argument let’s use him as an example; Timothee has a very diverse filmography. He has done comedy, romance, sci-fi, period piece movies, a musical, and his next projects are a biopic and apparently a ping-pong movie. He was even supposed to be in Barbie! Now let’s look at Tom: I feel like every project Tom has had in the last few years are either heavy dramas where he plays dark characters (TDATT, Cherry, TCR) or blockbusters (Spider-Man, Uncharted). Wanting him in something where he can be funny and charming doesn’t automatically means wanting him to play himself. I for one just want him to dabble more in different genres. That's why I’m so excited about Romeo & Juliet and the Fred Astaire biopic (if it ever happens), because it feels different from everything he has done before.
But here is the thing. How come they say he needs to play something light-hearted as if he hasn't just give them that? Sure, Uncharted is an action film, but it's a FUN movie as well. Just say you (not you, the fan) want that, not that he needs it as if he hasn't done any light-hearted project in years. The "Netflix low-budget rom-com/comedy" part was just me low-key poking fun at them for saying that, lol.
RE Timothee: I get what you're saying, but we need to remember Timothee wasn't (and isn't) tied to a long-term Marvel/Sony contract, well... Tom was. Timmy had and still has freedom in his career, meanwhile TCR was Tom first project he filmed and released AFTER his Marvel/Sony contract ended in 2021. Also, the fan thinks Tom's next move is making (once again) a bunch of Marvel movies, that he can get all the "Marvel money" so he can spend it on any other project he wants to make after that. But they fail to realize they're basically wanting him to re-do everything he did for the last 6 years, lol. It's crazy how so many fans don't realize how many years Tom spent in "Sony's basement" 😭 (and again, I'm not talking about you).

Helli ☺️ Once you made a post about Mia Wasikowska filmography. Did you literally watched all of her films? Including the ones where she's on screen for 15 seconds, in the third background? 😉
Hello!
Let's see...
*checks IMDB*
Ok, I should say I've seen 99,9% of all of her filmography. There's a short film she did in 2006 that I can't find in it's enirety, only a 2 minute excerpt, out of 8 (that sould count as seen, though, right?). Apart from that, yes, I have seen all of the feature films, short movies and TV show episodes she's been, from All Saints to Club Zero, as well as her directorial shorts. Sometimes I had to do some digging, and watch a two hour movie when she's only in for 5 minutes (looking at you, HHhH and TDATT), and watch stuff on potato quality, but I did it (also shoutout to the Mia fansites that were around during the 2010s). I think the only thing missing is her stage work.
I am a normal person.

TDATT is pretty boring overall, but I love Tom's performance in it. This is one of my favorite reviews about him ever
However, nothing compares to Tom Holland in this film. I have to confess, I'm not the biggest fan of his take on Spider-Man (though I do admit that's less to do with him and more to do with me), however in this film? He's incredible. There's something about his presence on the screen that just draws you in, and it works so well for this film. You feel Arvin'a pain, his triumph, and as he wrestles with his own morality, you feel his anguish and his confusion and his loss. In the hands of a lesser actor, this film wouldn't work. It's all riding on Holland. And boy, does he deliver. His eyes are his most powerful asset and he knows how to use them. Truly one of the best performances I've seen from a young actor in a long time.
They get it!! It's all in his eyes. His eyes are the reason the May death scene and the donut shop scene with MJ are so heartbreaking
Yeah I agree with this—and I’m curious to see how he uses them in TCR.

So, a friend was kind enough to share her Netflix with me, & I just got to meet Ari, & omg, I can see why he's so beloved. Also holy shit, what an incredible movie! Absolutely stunning, & raw, & powerful, & the song during the end credits was so beautiful.
I also got to meet Lee the other day. I'm gonna have to revisit that one briefly because I think I missed one of Seb's scenes (in the car, with a girl? I've seen gifs). I don't remember seeing it, & thanks to a life-saving app called "Does The Dog Die?" (very useful for many other triggers as well), I was given a greatly appreciated heads up, & a time stamp of when to skip ahead & where to play it again. (I could see where things were headed & I just cannot handle scenes of that nature, so I checked the app, & sure enough, I was right.) So I skipped the recommended time window, & now I'm suspecting that the scene I don't remember seeing might've been during that part of the movie. Past that, however, I don't think I'll be watching Devil All The Time again, unless for some reason I find myself in the mood for an emotional spiral... :/ I knew it wasn't gonna be a nice movie, but OOF...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm glad you had a chance to see Ari and Lee! I know there are mixed feelings on the film regarding Ari, but he's a beloved character in the fandom. Do you picture him being large? I, and many others, imagine him to be very tall.
Lee is a character I love, but have only written a little bit for. I want to get his voice right when I do it. There are some great writers out there who nail it perfectly. I'm in awe!
And listen. I will be his Pepsi cup if he needs me to. I'm fine with that. I can't remember how far into the film the scene took place, but there are videos circulating.
TDATT isn't a cheerful movie, so I get not being able to watch it over and over. I'm glad you had the chance to watch though. Love and thanks! 💙

can we even put tom and timothee in the same category though, I feel like there very different and I feel timothee has now found the perfect balance which I feel tom really hasnt
Tom can bring people to theatres and insanely popular like r+j sold out within two hours and of course spiderman but outside of spiderman the quality of the projects are more miss than they are hit and really struggles with finding good scripts or working with directors. Timothee while a vastly different journey and its not until recently he found blockbuster success hes no doubt a draw while simulataneoulsy still working on quality projects and working with the best directors and also having found a ton of success in independent film world even something like bones and all while finacially poor I would say the genre is more to blame at least it was a good movie, with great performances and critically successful whereas cherry and chaos walking were bombs but horrendously awful films.
I feel timmy has found the perfect balance and knows how to pick roles that suit him whereas tom is financially successful but a little iffy if his name attracts the best directors or stars tbh.
Though I do think his move to theatre is great perfect for him especially a well known play like r+j and jamie llyod and a opportunity tp hone your craft.
Ohhhh....here we go yet again....

Yup.... Every 10 days, I swear....we get SOME variation of the usual "Worried about Tom's Career" ask.
🤦🏾‍♀️
Anon, I think you and other fans who constantly worry about Tom's career need to realize that actors all have different journeys in the industry. Every actor doesn't have to do EXACTLY what their acting peer is doing, nor do they have to have the same exact path?? 🥴
whereas cherry and chaos walking were bombs but horrendously awful films.
HOLD UP..... Now, I'll give you "Chaos Walking" (which...in Tom's defense, was supposed to be released YEARS before it actually came out, and he signed on to that project early in his career), BUT "Cherry"?? 🥴 I don't care what anyone says, "Cherry" was NOT an "horrendously awful" film. Was it maybe not your cup of tea? Okay... sure. Was the narration throughout the film unnecessary? Okay....yes. But let's get REAL here. Both Tom and Ciara acted their butts off in that film. I feel like Tom really transformed himself in that film, and played a drug addict extremely WELL. That was the first film where I was like: "Geez man...you're an AWESOME actor!" That car scene!?? Like, come on. That was peak acting right there.
I feel timmy has found the perfect balance and knows how to pick roles that suit him whereas tom is financially successful but a little iffy if his name attracts the best directors or stars tbh.
Tom has worked with awesome directors. He's about to work with Paul King on the FA biopic, JUST like Timmy worked with him on "Wonka". Tom has also worked with Akiva Goldsman on TCR who's also famously known for films such as "A Beautiful Mind", "The Da Vinci Code", "A Time to Kill".....all AWESOME films.
How come it is, when Timmy does something, it's amazing, but when Tom does the very same thing, it's: "Idk...kinda iffy!" 🤔
Some of you all are letting Film Twitter run your minds instead of thinking for yourselves.
Have I liked EVERY single project that Tom has chosen to do? No... Not necessarily.... But I would put Tom's diverse filmography over Timothee's at the current moment, because Tom has at least shown me that he can play a wide range of characters and roles. He's gone from Arvin in TDATT, to Ian Lightfoot in "Onward".
Timmy is a decent actor (don't get me wrong!), and he's done great work over the years... But Tom has done more DIVERSE work imo. Timmy is just now starting to branch out and do blockbusters, children's films, etc (things that Tom has already been doing for years).... Just saying! 🤷🏾‍♀️
Actors don't have to follow one set path. They can go in and out from whatever filming roles they wish. Tom doesn't have to follow the same path as Timmy or any other actor out here. Most actors just focus on their OWN work, and admire the work of others that they personally appreciate. But it's not some competition.
I definitely think Timmy getting nominated for an Oscar at such a young age definitely put his name on the map for a lot of directors and such. Just being nominated for massive awards helps a LOT. You don't even have to win.
One day, Tom will be accepting an award for "Best Actor", and he will have all of Film Twitter eating their words.
I personally can't wait for that day lol 😊

https://x.com/Cass_Jarvis/status/1820950697187406321 I'm tired of seeing so called "fans" of Seb underrating him as an actor and only just valuing him for his looks. He was cast at the last minute in TDATT and most likely didn't have enough time to prepare/practice his accent for TDATT. I highly doubt he was even given a dialect coach at the time to prepare for TDATT, whereas all the other actors in the film were provided one.

I don't believe that 90% of actors/actresses are faithful to their girlfriends or wives, many marry early to maintain a standard in Hollywood or perhaps hide any rumors of cheating or homosexuality, I also believe that there comes a time that actors and actresses who are single for too long are seen within the Hollywood bubble as a threat to scene partners, directors and others, bill and alida are fully aware of how Hollywood works and they follow the pattern although i think bill hates elida but is still with her for some unknown reason.
Yeah but Bill has friends (or had friends) who didn't have public connections to a partner. Landon hasn't been known to be romantically connected to anyone (male or female) since before they were filming HG together. I've been in his fandom longer than Bill's and as private as he is people still know things about him. I can't find a trace of anyone who can find a woman (or man) he has dated between Degrassi and his last girlfriend. Landon still doesn't have any known connections to anyone even if his friendship with Bill is now dubious. Landon also has actor friends like this. I can think of other actors around his age that have no public dating history/connection to anyone either, male or female. I don't think partnering up is as common as you think. If the industry absolutely worked the way you suggest then a ton more actors would currently have partners publicly. I mean the actors around Bill's age and off the top of my head I can name more than a few that either appear single or actually are.
If anything, Bill being so super quick to partner up with a girl is more indicative of him trying to hide something. Since before Landon there's been rumors of him being gay and/or bisexual. I'm not saying they are or are not true but if they are then that may be his huge need to attach himself to any random woman because he wants to hide it. Though people on here argue all the time that he wouldn't hide it or he has not reason to etc; people don't also consider the insane issues that could come with him being gay or bisexual in the industry. Including how his potential roles may be limited. That alone could kill whatever career he's going for (even if he's doing it badly at this point). He may have even used this "family man" image to get roles like Willard in TDATT.
People also don't consider that not everyone is just okay with being gay themselves. Not everyone wants to accept it. Not everyone is out loud and proud. If Bill doesn't like that he has these feelings then he's going to do whatever he can to hide them. Tons of people in the fandom and on this website in general don't seem to realize that in the real world lots of people have problems coming to terms with these sort of thing. Bill obviously has issues due to his upbringing, mother, and other stuff. Obviously, something is going on with him and whatever it is (whether it's being gay, addiction, some sort of weird thing he wants to hide) she knows about it. I think that's what keeps him coming back, she knows something that he doesn't want exposed and he has no choice but to do what she wants even if it's the bare minimum.

I'll be honest, I'm sick of these takes on Tom's career. The career anxiety some anons gave over his career, I hope you guys apply that level on intensity in your own lives. Tom has worked ever since he was a child to a young adult nonstop. He has made choices with his career because it was the old module for actors at the time to make, sign on to films that haven't been made.
I think the problem with anon is y ou are seeing the career rises of other white make actors and are feeling threatened on his behalf which is crazy becaue Tom is so successful he went a year on working.
To stay TDATT is his last best performance. It is an opinion that you are well working your right to have, I'm sorry, but I disagree. TCR is a great performance, you dint get nominated for a CC if it's bad. I'm sorry. Maybe you dislike Marvel, or you agree with Film Twitter about superhero films, but Tom wanted to play spiderman. Don't get angry at his team that went with his choice.
Hollywood is about great films , but also about relationships, Sydney Sweeney literally spoke in an interview that Madame Web was a good career option because it allowed her to form a business relationship with Sony. The ppl with power gatekeep and the fact Tom has a good relationship with Amy Pascal, whether you like her or not, is beneficial to getting what he wants made. Also Zs to, cause getting 10 million for a leading role in film as a mixed woman, isn't easy.
Anon also forgets how Tom was offered a role in Oppenheimer but had to decline because he was filming TCR. Tom was not the only person who made that show, but he's the only top actor on that show who took a break afterwards. Are Amanda, Sasha Lanes, or Christopher Abbots careers in jeopardy because of TCR reviews? No, they are unto the next job.
Have you guys considered that maybe he wants to prioritise his personal life and development as a man who has nothing to do with his current acting career?? There's a reason a Tom mention was used in Timothee's puff piece for variety. He gets paid a lot for the little he does.
Tom also did a Prada campaign once and hasn't since because he just doesn't want to do it. I'm not gonna feel bad for a white millionaire who is in a better position than most poc actors who work have to work harder but barely get the recognition.
Anon, if you feel insecure as a fan because Timmy or Jacob E are having the careers acclaimed by journalists on that x app who don't even make enough to their rent, perhaps you need to stan someone else.
He is aware of the power of his brand, and even more aware actors and their team keep an eye on his every move. You can't praise a white actor with mentioning him lol.
I'm excited for the things that haven't Neen announced. Most male actors get their best roles in their late 20s to early 30s. He's fine...
I feel like you misinterpreted a lot of the things the anon said, including the TDATT part.
