Oumota Week 2023: Day 1 - Hospital AU / Hunger Games AU
It's the third in my timezone so here we go! Went with a postgame vr au set in the hospital after. Was really thinking on the wake up, the trepidation of the unknown. Death wasn't the end. And how, just how, does Kokichi wake up a martyr to help him through it again?

Friendly Reminder: The reason Tsumugi was only cosplaying as characters from the first two games is because of the Flashback Light that contained memories of Hope’s Peak Academy. If she gave them a Flashback Light that had memories from Danganronpa 4 through 52, then she could’ve cosplayed as characters from those games. It’s supposed to hint that Danganronpa 4 through 52 had stories that were in no way related to Hope’s Peak Academy. Tsumugi stated that if she did cosplay as those characters, they wouldn’t recognize them because those characters never went to Hope’s Peak.
And remember that the reason they got the Flashback Light about Hope’s Peak was so they could have the hope to stop Kokichi from ending the killing game. Kokichi’s plan was to show everyone the outside world as a post-apocalyptic Earth, making them lose all hope and have no reason to play the killing game. And Kokichi tried to trick everyone into thinking he was the mastermind, so the real mastermind, Tsumugi, had to get rid of him by rewriting the story Team Danganronpa had planned by bringing back Hope’s Peak Academy. Tsumugi also stated that she was in a rush and overlooked the inconsistencies, so the Flashback Light about Hope’s Peak wasn’t 100% accurate with the plot from the first two games and the plot Team Danganronpa had planned.

BREAKING NEWS
After the finale of a popular reality TV-show, protests from human right groups erupted across the country. They claim that reality tv-shows have violated human rights and provoked apathy towards human suffering. Many producers have reacted with controversy against these statements
Prime Minister Kogame refusesd to give any commentary on the protests.
“I have been very busy with the food shortage in rural areas recently. But those proceedings will come to an end soon. When everybody is properly fed, I will involve myself in topics of secondary importance like game shows”.
We will keep you updated.

Ooooooh~ I really like your ideas for the alternative mastermind au, especially with them having a somewhat romantic relationship with protag Kaede. Would you have the mastermind (and this goes both for Rantaro and Kokichi (and maybe Saihara?)) become yandere-ish towards her, or would they have a different kind of dynamic?
Okay, so I looked though my stuff because I didn't think I had an alternate mastermind AU???? The only one I can find that might fit is Ricochet, from my fic title game, so that's one I'm using.
Recap, bc i'm too lazy to link: Kaede managed to accidently kill Shirogane in chapter 1, they discover she was the mastermind, and just when she thinks they can all escape, Team Danganronpa hits the reset on their game, but for some reason, only Kaede remembers the previous start and things are different. She's labeled the Ultimate ???, Rantaro knows his talent (adventure, not survivalist), Shirogane isn't evil, and there isn't a secret mastermind room. Kaede has to figure out what's happening and how to keep everyone alive.
So, this au needs a different mastermind if Shirogane is normal. Honestly, I think the best Team DR could do on short notice is make Keebo the mastermind, or at least a spy or agent while they scramble to find a different mastermind. They mess with his memories so he has a false memory of being in a previous killing game with Kaede where she made it to the final chapter (making her the Ultimate Survivalist in this game), so he's really nice because he considers them friends and costars.
I like the idea of Keebo being a yandere in that context. Like, during the day, he's super sweet and supporting towards Kaede, but at night he's brooding, trying to make motives that would manipulate the others that are interested in her and make them kill each other.
Kaede tries to stick with the people who have changed the least after the reset, since she's more comfortable with them and is worried she might do something that makes her look sus. The people who have changed the least are Himiko (who is my chap 1 murder vic), Angie, and Kokichi. Angie and Kokichi switch between being Kaede's love interest and foil until one of them gets killed (probably Angie bc I can't bare to kill Kokichi). The remaining one becomes overly protective, but not necessarily yandere. Border yandere, maybe.
Rantaro will likely fill in after that death and Kaede discovers that he's a genuinely good person now that he isn't a walking mystery. Rantaro definitely has a dark side, though; he got to the final chapter of his first game for a reason, after all.
Team DR changes Shuichi to make him incredibly sus of Kaede, thinking she's the mastermind. He would treat her coldly bc of this.

i love(hate) how team danganronpa placed a bunch of highschoolers on a tropical fucking warm ass island in mostly cold practical clothes (some of the girls being exceptions) and did not make ANY of them complain ONE BIT. like girl I am a highschooler and if anything even fucking TOUCHES my arms or legs in over 70 fahrenheit temps I go ballistic and damn near tear it off of me as soon as possible. I'm the bitch who comes to school with shorts in a blizzard. from my observations highschoolers cant handle heat and would AT LEAST accommodate the clothes they brought to cool down

a long time ago I was like "I bet there are a lot of characters that are both touch-starved and touch-averse" so. Thinks
Impostor explanation: has been around the whole scale as various identities, has a hard time understanding themselves and their own true preference. Tends to just adjust to whoever they're around.

[Blows the dust off this blog] Long time no see...
Back in the Danganronpa pits... have some silly doodles for an...AU? or like, slight canon divergence/missing scene? I got to chapter 5 in my THH replay and was thinking about the part where these four are alone in the gym dismantling Monokuma all night.
I know realistically it's supposed to be because they were paranoid and extra careful about taking it slow so nothing went wrong... but like... their alibi is from 10pm to 7am? In my heart of hearts it actually took the whole night because they kept getting distracted and chit-chatting and got into a bunch of shenanigans once the actual dismantling part was done. Like Byakuya says they went to the bathroom in pairs?? Not to mention you'd totally expect him to make a comment about how insufferable it was being stuck together for like nine hours. And Hina says they played rock paper scissors to decide who brought back breakfast???
You can't tell me they didn't bond at least a little bit. A friend pointed out it'd have the vibes of a 4am discord call and that's exactly it. Emotional confessions about personal fears and insecurities to dumb physiological debates that become inside jokes forever. Etc.

Things I Wanted to Include for My V3 Rewrite - Part 9
So let’s jump ahead to when they arrive at the gym the night they plan to break through the Death Road of Despair. Kokichi explains to the group that he needed Kirumi’s help in making all of the gadgets Miu invented for him. Since I killed off Miu in Chapter 2, Kokichi resorts to getting Kirumi to invent the electrobombs and electrohammers. Kirumi explains that she was helping Kokichi on certain nights and thought that what Kokichi was planning to do wasn’t for the sake of murder.
Now for the good stuff. After they break through the Death Road, they arrive at the door to the outside. My OC gets anxious out of concern that his nightmare might come true and the outside world is a post-apocalyptic Earth. But to everyone’s surprise...
The outside isn’t a post-apocalyptic Earth, it’s a backstage.
You know, like those backstages sets usually have? Confused at first, the group then notices another door in the backstage, but the door is jammed and can’t be opened by any means necessary, even the electrohammers have no effect. That’s when Kokichi shows up to explain the truth to everyone. Instead of telling everyone that the Earth was destroyed…
Kokichi tells them that the killing game is a TV series!
Basically, Kokichi tells them everything Tsumugi said to everyone in the final trial in the original game, that the killing game is a TV series that is part of the Danganronpa franchise, the Flashback Lights are all lies and that everyone has audition videos that shows who they really are.
Now, there are several different ways I could’ve narrated this. I ended up writing that everyone thinks The Tragedy really happened and that Danganronpa is based on true events, but that was so that my OC could figure out Tsumugi’s plan to trick everyone into thinking she’s Junko, my OC points out that Tsumugi is cosplaying as the fictional Junko from Danganronpa and not the real one.
For this scene, one idea was to have Kokichi explain that after The Tragedy, when the world began to recover, a company calling themselves Team Danganronpa decided to make the video game Danganronpa, a video game based on the Hope’s Peak killing game, but the characters are fictional versions of the people who were in the real killing game. Upon its success, they decided to expand the series by turning it into a reality TV series. They basically “kidnap” people who want to participate in the killing game and then brainwash them into thinking they’re fictional characters and that they’re Ultimate Students. Kokichi even explains that the show has lasted for over 53 seasons, but most seasons between seasons 4 and 52 were just video game parodies (i.e. Final Danganronpa 5 parodies Final Fantasy, Shin Danganronpa 7 parodies Shin Megami Tensei). Season 53 was written to call back on the Hope's Peak saga.
The other idea was that Kokichi tells them the same thing, except that he explains that The Tragedy didn’t happen and that the idea of Danganronpa being based on true events was a lie my OC invented. You know, because Kokichi can easily tell when someone is lying? However, my OC argues that he didn’t know about this and that he was most likely given a Flashback Light into thinking The Tragedy really happened.
Now one thing I wanted to include was for Kokichi to show to everyone the original script for the killing game. He explains that the script details the order of character deaths, but my OC ended up changing the death order because he was able to figure out Tsumugi’s plan to kill Rantaro and frame Kaede. This caused Team Danganronpa to rewrite the script and scrap the original script, as in, they had to scrap the Gofer Project storyline.
Now for the confusing part. Kokichi explains that he was scripted to be the 5th victim and is determined to keep things as is. However, Kaito, who was scripted to be his killer, is already dead, so Kokichi decides to turn to Kirumi. The scene where Kokichi originally kidnaps Kaito turns into a scene where Kokichi uses the Exisals to capture and kidnap Kirumi, locking her up in the Exisal hanger. He explains that he doesn’t want my OC to interfere with his plans and wants to get back at him. Something like that. The confusing part about this is that it would contradict Kokichi’s real plans to expose the true mastermind and end the killing game. I guess you can say Kokichi sort of lost his mind when he discovered the truth about the killing game being a TV series. When I write the later parts, I’ll try to explain what his plans were.
With everyone suffering from the despair of learning who they really are, that they’re just ordinary people with no real talents and with different names and personalities, they don’t have the hope to stop Kokichi and save Kirumi.
