Video starts in a bathroom. In the mirror, Jesse can be seen wearing a green long-sleeve shirt, a white skirt, a brown wig, a lei, green face paint and glasses. Given the height and angle of the video, it appears that the camera is embedded in the glasses.
At 0:06 Jesse quietly says “today is Team Eco’s initiation ceremony and I am here with Shane at their Kalos HQ. We’re going under cover to find out some information about Team Eco’s goals.”
At 0:13 Shane walks out of the bathroom and Jesse follows. They glance over to Shane giving them a thumbs up. Jesse quietly laughs and returns it. Shane returns with a nervous smile. The atmosphere around them is energetic and merry. People are dancing, cheering and eating everywhere.
At 1:02 the camera pans to a green-eyed Zorua in front of Shane. She crouches down to pet it. The Zorua is near-totally unresponsive. Shane gestures to the Zorua and asks, “you getting this, Jesse?”
At 2:09 the video shifts to a queue arranged around a vibrant and massive tree.  Only one person stands in front of the tree, with others waiting in line. The person then pricks their finger and can be heard saying “from the earth, my blood, back to the earth, my blood, to the earth, my life.” They smear their blood on the tree. A wooden chalice decorated with colored stones is handed to them. The person drinks out of it.
At 2:55 a shout is heard. Jesse turns around. Shane is running to them with her camera. A crowd of steel and dark types are forming behind her, all with green eyes and bandannas. Jesse grabs her and backs away until a Stone Edge separates them.
At 3:21 Shane yells “Jesse, take it!” She tosses Jesse her camera over the rocks.
At 3:28 a pokeball can be heard opening as Jesse shouts for Shane. The video goes white.

Prompt 349
(So Dredge has new DLC, which means my Merfolk & Eldritch Ghosts has gained new inspiration)
Now, if one were to ask what happened to Amity Park, many people would ask what you were even talking about. The city was rather out of sight, out of mind, to say the least- even without the government coverup.
It was well known, to those that even knew of the town in the first place, that it was a ghost town, abandoned from sinkhole problems, roads diverted and fences put up to prevent people from entering. Of course, if one made it past that first fence, and then the overgrown wall, and then another electrified net, and through the invisible barrier not meant to keep them out but something else in, they’d know that wasn’t true.
Oh sure, one could claim some sort of sinkhole, what with how the only building not half destroyed was some mimicry of a floating rig, standing strong in the dark waters that now covered everything else. But even a sinkhole should not go so deep, waters turning from pitch darkness to a heavy green… several hundred miles deeper than the deepest trenches.
And the denizens of the water didn’t appreciate the rig protected by its tower, or the boats of white protected by buzzing barriers that tried to heave them from the waters for study. Yes, what happened to Amity Park was far more a mystery than it should be, unless you were one of those once-humans in the depths.
But well, it wasn’t the GIW who would be asking them.

In cooperation with the Jane Goodall Institute, in 2022 Mattel created a four-doll set they called the Eco Leadership Team.
Tumblr media
The dolls were made of recycled plastic* (much like the Jane Goodall Inspiring Women doll) and represented a Renewable Energy Engineer, a Conservation Scientist, a Chief Sustainability Officer, and an Environmental Advocate.
Tumblr media
Oh yes, Mattel has produced a Barbie who is canonically a protestor.
There is a lot to like about this dollset: Mattel is representing women in STEM fields, Mattel is making an effort to produce more sustainable Barbies, and Mattel is actively encouraging their target audience to take an active interest in creating positive change in their community.
On the other hand...
Remember that asterisk above?
That should read *Hair and face excluded. Those parts were not recycled. And although this set is a certified carbon neutral product, per the back of the box, most Barbies are not.
Tumblr media
I am not questioning that I think it was right for Mattel to produce this product and I think it's great in many ways, but I think perhaps Mattel as a corporation could be doing a little more.

Why do I care so much about deciphering character ages in Pokemon?
Simply put, angst. Or in long terms-
The art of storytelling is not so cut and dry, anyone with basic media literacy knows this. There is so much subtext and unspoken information that rings loudly in the implications of a story, something as simple as the age of an MC will dictate how heavily their experiences will affect them. Using the Gen6 games as examples (XY and Omega Ruby specifically)
By figuring out where to place Calem Serena and Zinnia in age, the story they live through gains added context. They all share the same bracket of 18-19 meaning they are in they’re late late teens and budding into the incoming subconscious weight of young adulthood, the subconscious urge to be stronger and reckless to prove yourself as capable in the real world; while still being young and having so much to learn. They have further motive to get involved in the heavy actions they take and will fall and break down even harder when they fail. Such is the right of growing up.
And for more adult characters, the same still holds true.
Doing the same thing I did with the kalos protags age by calculating off of a canon characters official age (emma) and then taking into account mannerisms dialogue and design; Admin Tabitha from team magma is officially 27, stated by himself. So going off of the work place hierarchy, Leader Maxie with his experience and status should be in his late 40s to maybe early 50s, making him the prime age for an early onset midlife crisis, linking that to his past relationships with Archie and the reasoning for making his team, his clear strong sense of justice even if misplaced, you have a man who can quickly spiral into a rather pitiful sight if pushed too hard in the wrong direction. First he bares his teeth, then he whines. Like a scared dog trying to protect itself and the image he has made for himself.
Meanwhile Courtney who is evidently more experienced than Tabitha is confirmed to have been with the team longer than him, as his paperwork is still seated on her desk, seems to be in her early 20s, I originally assumed she was in her mid 20s but then she released in pokemon masters and I was able to study her behavior more closely, she has this uncanny glimpse of childlike wonder at times that makes me believe she’s maybe younger than Tabitha, that added to the fact Tabitha seems to look out for her with her social struggles, almost taking on a brotherly role it seems.
Her being in her early twenties adds more weight to her codependency on Maxie as well as her reckless devotion, she’s younger and somewhat impressionable, she’s not against violent action to protect her passions.
And because I was able to gather Courtney had more experience while being younger I can come to the conclusion that it’s very possible Courtney was a science prodigy of some sort, as she is known in her field. And seeing she’s been with team magma longer and has evident close bonds with Maxie, it’s even more possible they worked together when she was younger.
Originally that led me to the thought she might have worked in relation to the Devon corporation, but with the art of visual storytelling in Sea Mauville, it’s not insane to assume Archie and Maxie may have worked together with the Mauville Corporation and that’s what makes them so jaded in modern day, a bad work environment being a stepping stone to their fall from grace. By Sea Mauville’s writings alone I don’t see them being against overworking a young teen prodigy. It’s possible maybe leader Maxie knew Courtney from his time there and brought her onto his team when the company went under. (This also means I need to retcon tf out of my in character Courtney blog.)
This also can explain Courtney’s role playing more into a team disciplinary, her time in Sea Mauville so young could’ve taught her to be more aggressive in order to earn her respect and get better outcome from rookie labor, as it’s heavily shown grunts seem to fear Courtney in some respects.
And ALL of this is merely the writing on the wall I can read when I take into account the age of our cast

someday I will write a story with a highlight specifically on Katara, Jet, & Zuko engaging in vigilante justice as a trio. I have certainly touched on this theme with these characters many times but like. The Painted Lady & Blue Spirit parallels. Jet & Zuko stealing food on the ferry & Katara delivering food to the village in The Painted Lady. there is definite potential in this specific trio committing crimes for the people….

Yknow when you have a substitute teacher who doesn’t wanna deal with you so they put on Bill Nye or Tim and Moby (or if ur really unlucky then the amoeba sisters JSJSJ /j)
Octonauts Creature Reports, Training Videos, or the Gup Close Ups are the equivalent of Bill Nye in Pinto and Koshi’s school.
They both either extremely brag about it or hate it LMAO

April 22 is Earth Day, an annual international observance to promote environmental protection, having run since 1970. 2024's theme specifically is "Planet vs Plastics".
Which brings us to Barbie.
There is no doubt that Mattel is aware of the issues of environmental protection, climate change and the impact of plastics on the environment. The 2022 Barbie "Career of the Year" was Eco-Leadership.
Tumblr media
These dolls were advertised as being made from recycled plastic (with the fine print noting that this is true only of the bodies, not the heads or hair) and featured Barbie in various eco-themed careers (including what Mattel describes as an "advocate" but to me looks like a "protester").
The dolls are made of "certified CarbonNeutral products", as are some other Barbie products especially those themed around the environment, such as the Jane Goodall Inspiring Women Barbie (also described as being made from 75% recycled plastic, excluding the head, hair and chimpanzee... which you may recognise as being a pretty significant portion of what is available in this release).
Tumblr media
In 2021, Mattel updated their website with a page on sustainability, featuring the tagline "The future of pink is green" and promising that they were "working towards a goal of achieving 100% recycled, recyclable, or bio-based plastic materials in our products and packaging." This page also provides links to a number of dolls in their line they are advertising as being made of recycled products, such as "Barbie Loves the Ocean".
Tumblr media
They promise "more" coming in 2024, but ultimately I don't know if Mattel is really doing all that they can. I recognise that Barbie is a capitalist product i.e. a toy, a toy designed to be sold in as many numbers as possible, made of plastic and packaged in plastic. But if Mattel wants to make sustainability a cornerstone of their brand (which to be clear, I applaud), I wish we were seeing more.
