What does life in North Korea look like outside of Pyongyang? 🇰🇵
Tumblr media
Hey, I'm back again with a very scary "tankie" post that asks you to think of North Koreans as people, and to consider their country not as a cartoonish dystopia, but as a nation that, like any other place on earth, has culture, traditions, and history.
Below is a collection of pictures from various cities and places in North Korea, along with a brief dive into some of the historical events that informs life in the so-called "hermit kingdom."
Warning: very long post
Kaesong, the historic city
Tumblr media
Beginning this post with Kaesong, one of the oldest cities in Korea. It's also one of the few major cities in the DPRK (i.e. "North Korea") that was not completely destroyed during the Korean war.
Every single city you'll see from this point on were victims of intense aerial bombardments from the U.S. and its allies, and had to be either partially or completely rebuilt after the war.
From 1951 to 1953, during what has now become known as the "forgotten war" in the West, the U.S. dropped 635,000 tons of bombs over Korea — most of it in the North, and on civilian population centers. An additional 32,000 tons of napalm was also deployed, engulfing whole cities in fire and inflicting people with horrific burns:
For such a simple thing to make, napalm had horrific human consequences. A bit of liquid fire, a sort of jellied gasoline, napalm clung to human skin on contact and melted off the flesh. Witnesses to napalm's impact described eyelids so burned they could not be shut and flesh that looked like "swollen, raw meat." - PBS
Ever wondered why North Koreans seem to hate the U.S so much? Well...
Keep in mind that only a few years prior to this, the U.S. had, as the first and only country in the world, used the atomic bomb as a weapon of war. Consider, too, the proximity between Japan and Korea — both geographically and as an "Other" in the Western imagination.
As the war dragged on, and it became clear the U.S. and its allies would not "win" in any conventional sense, the fear that the U.S. would resort to nuclear weapons again loomed large, adding another frightening dimension to the war that can probably go a long way in explaining the DPRK's later obsession with acquiring their own nuclear bomb.
But even without the use of nuclear weapons, the indiscriminate attack on civilians, particularly from U.S. saturation bombings, was still horrific:
"The number of Korean dead, injured or missing by war’s end approached three million, ten percent of the overall population. The majority of those killed were in the North, which had half of the population of the South; although the DPRK does not have official figures, possibly twelve to fifteen percent of the population was killed in the war, a figure close to or surpassing the proportion of Soviet citizens killed in World War II" - Charles K. Armstrong
On top of the loss of life, there's also the material damage. By the end of the war, the U.S. Air Force had, by its own estimations, destroyed somewhere around 85% of all buildings in the DPRK, leaving most cities in complete ruin. There are even stories of U.S. bombers dropping their loads into the ocean because they couldn't find any visible targets to bomb.
What you'll see below of Kaesong, then, provides both a rare glimpse of what life in North Korea looked like before the war, and a reminder of what was destroyed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kaesong's main street, pictured below.
Due the stifling sanctions imposed on the DPRK—which has, in various forms and intensities, been in effect since the 1950s—car ownership is still low throughout the country, with most people getting around either by walking or biking, or by bus or train for longer distances.
Tumblr media
Kaesong, which is regarded as an educational center, is also notable for its many Koryŏ-era monuments. A group of twelve such sites were granted UNESCO world heritage status in 2013.
Included is the Hyonjongnung Royal Tomb, a 14th-century mausoleum located just outside the city of Kaesong.
Tumblr media
One of the statues guarding the tomb.
Tumblr media
Before moving on the other cities, I also wanted to showcase one more of the DPRK's historical sites: Pohyonsa, a thousand-year-old Buddhist temple complex located in the Myohyang Mountains.
Tumblr media
Like many of DPRK's historic sites, the temple complex suffered extensive damage during the Korean war, with the U.S. led bombings destroying over half of its 24 pre-war buildings.
The complex has since been restored and is in use today both as a residence for Buddhist monks, and as a historic site open to visitors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hamhung, the second largest city in the DPRK.
A coastal city located in the South Hamgyŏng Province. It has long served as a major industrial hub in the DPRK, and has one of the largest and busiest ports in the country.
Hamhung, like most of the coastal cities in the DPRK, was hit particularly hard during the war. Through relentless aerial bombardments, the US and its allies destroyed somewhere around 80-90% percent of all buildings, roads, and other infrastructure in the city.
Now, more than seventy years later, unexploded bombs, mortars and pieces of live ammunition are still being unearthed by the thousands in the area. As recently as 2016, one of North Korea's bomb squads—there's one in every province, faced with the same cleanup task—retrieved 370 unexploded mortar rounds... from an elementary school playground.
Experts in the DPRK estimate it will probably take over a hundred years to clean up all the unexploded ordnance—and that's just in and around Hamhung.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hamhung's fertilizer plant, the biggest in North Korea.
When the war broke out, Hamhung was home to the largest nitrogen fertilizer plant in Asia. Since its product could be used in the creation of explosives, the existence of the plant is considered to have made Hamhung a target for U.S. aggression (though it's worth repeating that the U.S. carried out saturation bombings of most population centers in the country, irrespective of any so-called 'military value').
The plant was immediately rebuilt after the war, and—beyond its practical use—serves now as a monument of resistance to U.S. imperialism, and as a functional and symbolic site of self-reliance.
Tumblr media
Chongjin, the third largest city in the DPRK.
Another coastal city and industrial hub. It underwent a massive development prior to the Korean war, housing around 300,000 people by the time the war broke out.
By 1953, the U.S. had destroyed most of Chongjin's industry, bombed its harbors, and killed one third of the population.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wonsan, a rebuilt seaside city.
The city of Wonsan is a vital link between the DPRK's east and west coasts, and acts today as both a popular holiday destination for North Koreans, and as a central location for the country's growing tourism industry.
Considered a strategically important location during the war, Wonsan is notable for having endured one of the longest naval blockades in modern history, lasting a total of 861 days.
By the end of the war, the U.S. estimated that they had destroyed around 80% of the city.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Masikryong Ski Resort, located close to Wonsan. It opened to the public in 2014 and is the first, I believe, that was built with foreign tourists in mind.
Tumblr media
Sariwon, another rebuilt city
One of the worst hit cities during the Korean War, with an estimated destruction level of 95%.
I've written about its Wikipedia page here before, which used to mockingly describe its 'folk customs street'—a project built to preserve old Korean traditions and customs—as an "inaccurate romanticized recreation of an ancient Korean street."
No mention, of course, of the destruction caused by the US-led aerial bombings, or any historical context at all that could possibly even hint at why the preservation of old traditions might be particularly important for the city.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Life outside of the towns and cities
In the rural parts of the DPRK, life primarily revolves around agriculture. As the sanctions they're under make it difficult to acquire fuel, farming in the DPRK relies heavily on manual labour, which again, to avoid food shortages, requires that a large portion of the labour force resides in the countryside.
Unlike what many may think, the reliance on manual labour in farming is a relatively "new" development. Up until the crisis of the 1990s, the DPRK was a highly industrialized nation, with a modernized agricultural system and a high urbanization rate. But, as the access to cheap fuel from the USSR and China disappeared, and the sanctions placed upon them by Western nations heavily restricted their ability to import fuel from other sources, having a fuel-dependent agricultural industry became a recipe for disaster, and required an immediate and brutal restructuring.
For a more detailed breakdown of what lead to the crisis in the 90s, and how it reshaped the DPRKs approach to agriculture, check out this article by Zhun Xu.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some typical newly built rural housing, surrounded by farmland.
Tumblr media
Tumblr only allows 20 pictures per post, but if you want to see more pictures of life outside Pyongyang, check out this imgur album.

What pisses me off about Zionists & people claiming Israel are the good guys is Israel has killed only 13 Hamas members within their *pulls up daily and weekly number reports to give a good estimate at the time I'm making this post* murder of 21,000+ unarmed civilians {my source was google btw & yes that rounded down number includes women and children} since October 7.
If their goal really was to only locate and stop Hamas, they're the most incompetent military in the history of the world so far and are on a fast track to being the worst military of humanity.
Isreal has had the Iron Dome at their greasy finger tips and they even killed Israel citizens on accident with it twice {shout out to google again, Israel does a lot of pr to said "nu uh" and all the fact checkers go "UM ACTUALLY" so it might have been more times but 2 seems to be the geberally agreed upon count for now} during the same time frame they've "gone after Hamas" but they can't locate the resistance group that used some construction equipment. A someone who works in construction, it's super easy to figure out who stole/hasn't returned a bulldozer when those shits on their item number in it. And if Isreal destroyed it, all the pics they took can narrow it down.
If you genuienly still believe Israel are only going after Hamas & are in the right after knowing the facts of how they've been obliterating unarmed civilians, you're actually a fucking idiot.
And if this is the first time you're hearing someone spit facts {I hate google but shout out to it for being my source} of the bodycount - I am sorry but the majority of all social media is based off your likes. You are the source of your own ignorance- you have the world in your hands if you can read my posts so do better.
#mun post#israel is a terrorist state#israel government is evil#free palestine#as a gun & knife enthusiast dont get me started on the Israel military propaganda of these bitches holding their shit- pisses me off#also because somebody will ask estimated injured is 4100 ish and I say ish because#doctors without borders (msf) are estimating 1.8-2 million displaced so that number could be way higher#but infections and underlying issues tend to not be counted despite being partly caused by the bombinga#this also is something to take note of when we look at the growing death toll- there will be a lot of people unaccounted for simply because#there are no remains or they died from injuries or the limited supply of aid or starvation#the death toll is probably closer to 50k unfortunately#and i say 50k as the worst case scenario simply because of the visual devastation images that we know of as of December 1 2023#and the injured and dead dont include pets livestock nor native wild life which is incredibly sad too think about as well#the estimate of miasing for children is closer to 5000 and women 8000 but I tend to round it to 11#-000 in total when it comes up simply because it'll be montha before a proper head count can be done#also giving exact numbers when a dead toll is in real time is something I dislike- rounding to the nearest ten-thousand is easier for idiot#to understand unfortunately#also i dislike bringing up religion but all religions- even Palestinian jews#christians and catholics- have been murdered by Israel

she's not a very social media person in general, but any post she does make is probably of you
would def write you a sappy letter on your anniversary/valentines/christmas/new years/your birthday
basically any chance she gets she'll write u a long, sappy letter telling you how much she appreciates you and loves you and yap yap yap
i don't see her as a person who wears much jewelry, but i can definitely see her having a locket with your picture in it, or some kind of matching bracelet
randomly starts yapping about you to the girls
"she's so sweet and i love her an–" "SHUT UP WE GET IT." "dang okay"
they're your biggest fans!!!
pinkie probably made a fan account on insta thats just her posting cute pictures of you guys
rarity helps applejack plan dates and shit
dash playfully flirts with you any chance she gets because she finds it hilarious when aj glares at her
speaking of that, i can't see her being someone who gets jealous super super easily?
like, i can definitely see her sidling up beside you, putting an arm around your waist, and glaring at the person who's flirting with you
"who's this, darlin'?"
she has an rbf so if you're really sunshine-y you guys look ridiculous tg
scary guard dog gf!!!!

Israel has killed 1,151 workers in Gaza’s healthcare system since October 2023, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Among the dead are 260 nurses, 184 health associates, 165 physicians, and 76 pharmacists, along with hundreds of management and support staff. While most of the victims’ names have been confirmed by health authorities, over 150 confirmations are still pending due to Israel’s refusal to release the martyrs’ bodies. In addition to those killed, hundreds of health workers remain imprisoned, where they face abuse and torture, as documented by international organizations. Ziad Muhammad Al-Dalu, a physician from Al-Shifa Hospital, was among those who died in Israeli custody, as reported by the Ministry of Health. His death serves as yet another example of Israel’s deliberate targeting of Gaza’s healthcare workers and infrastructure, actions that violate international humanitarian law. The ongoing attacks on healthcare have left tens of thousands of people with life-altering injuries. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 25% of those injured between October 2023 and July 2024 have suffered burns, severe limb injuries, or amputations, with no access to rehabilitation services. Dozens of physiotherapists were killed in the attacks, and inpatient rehabilitation services have been shut down for months. “Even the most essential assistive devices, like wheelchairs and crutches, are lacking due to the restricted flow of aid,” the WHO said. Israel’s blockade on humanitarian aid continues to choke Gaza’s healthcare system. At the moment, one of the most urgent problems is the shortage of soap and detergents. With the cost of a small bar of soap reaching USD 10—a price that could buy approximately 2 kilograms of soap in Germany—many families in Gaza are unable to afford basic hygiene supplies. “A family relying on cash-for-work income would spend 60% of the unskilled income on consumable hygiene products,” warned organizations monitoring water and sanitation in Gaza. With soap being an omnipresent product, it might be difficult to imagine how severe the effects of a shortage might be, particularly for children. Health and hygiene officials estimate that adequate access to soap in the Gaza Strip could reduce respiratory infections by 20% and diarrheal diseases by up to 40%. This would potentially prevent illness in at least one in three children currently suffering from diarrhea. However, humanitarian organizations estimate that delivering the 5 million soap bars needed each month to meet demand in Gaza is basically impossible under the existing restrictions. Despite this situation, Gaza recently completed the first phase of its polio vaccination campaign, with an 87% coverage rate among children—just below the 90% benchmark. The campaign is set to resume in the coming weeks, but incidents of Israeli forces obstructing access to those taking part in it persist, jeopardizing future public health efforts. As winter approaches, the need for essential medicines, hygiene supplies, and nutritious food in Gaza becomes even more urgent. Concerns about potential floods and worsening living conditions highlight once again the critical need for an immediate ceasefire and rebuilding of the health system.

Yo ! I don’t know if you’re taking reqs or not, but I’d kinda be interested in seeing Sev’s reaction to if reader was hurt? Like would she go apeshit or be calm and whoop ass? Which do you think?
i'm always taking requests! and i have about a million thoughts about this ;)
men and minors dni
it depends entirely on how you're hurt.
if it's an accident, like you fall down the stairs or step on broken glass or something, she's calmly tending to your wounds, wiping up your tears, teasing you when you finally stop crying about being so clumsy.
she'll press a kiss over every bandage and bruise on your body.
but if somebody else hurts you?
sevika stays calm in front of you, not wanting to add any more stress to your already injured body. she'll get you to safety, make sure you're tended to, and stay by your side, whispering sweet nothings to you until you fall asleep.
and then it's like a switch flips.
suddenly, all the fear and panic and terror of watching you get hurt comes rushing back to her body with full force. and it manifests as anger.
she'll track down whatever sorry fucker decided to mess with her girl, and she'll make sure they can never hurt anyone again.
she doesn't kill them right away. i think she beats them for a long while, getting all of her jitters out, making sure they experience tenfold the pain they had decided to inflict on you.
and then, once they're nothing more than a bloody, wheezing, pulp, she'll kill 'em.
she feels better the second they're dead.
she'll wash up before she gets home, not wanting you to see her all bloodied and battered, and pick up some flowers and soup for you.
when she returns, you're still sleeping. she trims the flowers and puts them by your bedside, puts the soup in the fridge, then crawls into bed beside you, gently adjusting you until you're in her arms.
usually, she sleeps on you. but when you're hurt, she has to hold you. she knows you're safe in her arms, and she can't calm down completely until she's got you curled on top of her.
sometimes you wake up, and she'll just rub your back and press kisses to your head until you fall back asleep.
she's never able to sleep the first night after you've been hurt. she stays up all night, monitoring your breathing, soaking in the sight of you, whispering to your unconscious body.
sometimes you wake up and hear her whispering to you.
"that fucker's never gonna hurt you again, baby. i took care of him for you."
"i'm so fuckin' sorry. i'll make sure everyone in the lanes knows not to touch a hair on your head ever again."
and of course, endless "i fuckin' love you"s.
she'll never tell you what she did to the people who harmed you, but you know. sevika's killed men for smacking your ass before, you know she won't let someone who actually hurt you go on breathing.
sevika will take time off from work to be by your side until you're better. she's ten times more dramatic than you are about it, not letting you leave bed, not letting you feed yourself, forcing you to drink a glass of water every hour.
and... sometimes, when she's changing your bandages, she'll start to cry.
it breaks her heart to see you wounded. it makes her feel so weak and wobbly seeing her girl hurt. she does everything in her power to make sure you're safe, and seeing that she's failed, that you're in pain, it kills her.
when this happens, you just wrap her up in your arms and pull her head to your chest, letting her cry against you while she listens to your steady heartbeat.
"i'm okay, baby. i'm a tough fucker, you know that." you'll whisper. "i'm not going anywhere anytime soon. not without you." you promise.

My Sladick Fic Rec

safe harbor by greeneyedfirework
He’s in a hostile city, with a bounty on his head, injured and alone. He needs a place to hide.
slipping by greeneyedfirework
Nightwing wants information off of a mobster’s phone. Deathstroke wants a flash drive. Both are located in an upscale BDSM club. Dick has a bad feeling about this.

Five times Adeline Kane disapproves of Nightwing, and one time she understands.
as though i had wings by tospreadthewingsofthesoul
Bruce is back from the dead, and Dick isn't coping well. In fact, he's barely coping at all. It feels as though everything in his life is falling apart. So of course that's when Slade decides to reappear in Dick's life and turn everything upside down. A story about learning to ask for what you need, how to hold your boundaries, and how to trust that the people you love love you enough to help.
light and frolicsome by tospreadthewingsofthesoul
Glimpses into Dick and Slade’s relationship. (companion piece to “as though i had wings”)
hold on to let go by roipecheur
The first time Dick met Deathstroke the Terminator, he was twelve years old, and the mercenary broke his leg and tied him up on a rooftop. In retrospect, Dick thinks it started there. Or, Slade keeps tying Dick up over the years, and Dick can't be blamed for getting his wires crossed.
for the right price by roipecheur
The morning after Dick's life falls apart (again), he wakes up to Slade's gun in his face and a ten million dollar contract on his head from an anonymous client. Searching for the culprit might just take them closer to home than they thought.
trails like smoke by wednesday
“Is there a reason you’re here?” Dick asks, curt, because the shoulder that got the worst of the damage is a constant low thrum of burning pain. Trying to wrap the wounds is proving to be exactly as annoying as he expected. More, actually, since he now has to do it with an audience. “Here in this room I rented. For me. My room, in fact.”
take the offer that wasn’t made by wednesday
“That’s not what my contract is about.” Slade sounds out of breath, but not angry; if anything, he sounds smug. Dick’s thoughts screech to an unexpected halt. The arm around his neck tightens, making him lightheaded. And for the first time since Dick found out Deathstroke had taken a contract in his city, Dick feels real panic, like white noise spreading through his veins. There’s a sting right above the collar of his costume, and Dick spends the last ten seconds before the tranquilizer knocks him out drowning in waves of fresh fear.
Night Is Young by wednesday
Dick imagines a little chime when that final timer ticks down to zero and the file transfer finishes. He almost sighs in relief. And before he can pull the drive out, a soft click at exactly his six o’clock stops him.
Break the Fall by wednesday
Getting rescued does not make Dick's situation better, not at first.
Black Gold Blues by wednesday
The gut punch is what gets him. Dick knows all the ways to tense and relax correctly to take any kind of hit with the least damage to himself, but that only works when he’s prepared, when he sees the hit coming. He does not see it coming, when one of the henchmen in this drug operation turns out to be on some Venom knock-off.
in every end (we start) by wednesday
At first, when he gets dragged downstairs and towards a metal door that screams cell, he’s relieved. They’ll leave him alone and he’ll be out in no time. Easy. Then the badly suppressed fear and nervousness of the alpha guard a few feet away from the door registers. Followed by the impressive blood splatters on the floor and walls.
no stopping (’til I break every rule) by wednesday
Dick can hear Deathstroke lazily walking down the line of handcuffed, terrified hostages trying to shuffle back even closer to the wall. He already knows where this is going. There’s not enough time to decide which would look less suspicious—looking up or not. Slade grabs Dick’s hair and pulls him up, leaving him no choice but to move forward until he’s kneeling at Slade’s feet. He can hear shuddery sighs of relief from the other hostages and can’t blame them.
with your best shot by wednesday
Dick and Slade, sitting in a cage. Decidedly not doing anything as pleasant as kissing.
ain’t lived if you’ve got no regrets by wednesday
Around the time he’s trying to decide if some friendly chatting would make his chances of escape better or much worse, something smashes through the roof of the warehouse. Someone, he realizes just a moment later. Before that someone even hits the ground, Dick recognizes him and regrets the lack of a panic button an order of magnitude harder. Because he can definitely feel some panic right about when Deathstroke starts shooting while still airborne.
Safest Place in the World by Skalidra
Being an international spy is a dangerous job, but not nearly as much as hunting those spies down is. When Dick needs a place to lay low for a little bit, and bandage a few wounds, there's really only one place he knows of that's far enough off the radar. Luckily, he's got a key.
Deals in the Desert by firefright and Skalidra
On the eve of the Garage's final battle with Luthor, Dick spies a familiar face out in the desert. Someone who could be enemy, ally, or something in-between, depending on how he plays it. Lucky for him, Slade turns out to be in a talkative mood.
Resolute in Resurrection by firefright
It's rare that a new immortal is born. Rarer still, that they already have a prior relationship with an existing one at the time. Dick has no idea what it is that's happened to him, but Slade is absolutely going to make sure he finds out.
I’ve Killed Very Many Fathers, You’ll Have To Be More Specific by walkerofthestars
Nightwing is kidnapped by an enemy of Deathstroke because they’ve noticed the two teaming up a few times- enough times to think they must at least be friends. However, unfortunately, they’re a bit more than that, so they basically just signed their death warrant.
truce until daybreak by Sandrine Shaw (Sandrine)
It's dark in the room, but not dark enough that Dick can't make out the familiar splash of orange, the distinct shape of Deathstroke's armor, taking up more than half the bed.
I want to lay here (lost and bitter) by withthekeyisking
Dick doesn't know why his marks vanish so quickly, what that means for the wounds his soulmate carries, but his mama (and then Alfred) tells him not to worry. Slade doesn't know what made his soulmate go from regular bumps and bruises one day to actual injuries the next, but he's going to kill whoever's responsible for it.
Hidden Treasures by withthekeyisking
Nightwing gets kidnapped by a group of people who intend to sell him to the highest bidder. Much to Batman's surprise, Deathstroke comes offering him a way to save his boy, apparently free of charge. The question on everyone's minds, however, is why?
Jarring Inertia by withthekeyisking
Nineteen years ago, the mercenary Slade Wilson came to the aid of King Bruce Wayne, a partnership that ended in the winning of the Great War. His price for this help? Someday down the line, Slade would ask the king a question, and the king would have to say yes. King Bruce, a man of his word, begrudgingly agreed. Prince Richard, now just celebrating his twenty-second birthday, comes face to face with the fact that even in deals he wasn't a part of, everything has a price.
By Vigor and Resolution by withthekeyisking
When King Bruce agreed to an arranged marriage between one of his children and King Slade of Grevemort to form an alliance, they all assumed the chosen child would be an omega. None of them knew that King Slade's tastes ran far more towards alphas, and that lack of knowledge is really biting Dick in the ass.
all the fire i've swallowed by wingdingery
After the dragon Ravager died attacking Gotham, Dick knew it was only a matter of time before others came seeking vengeance. He also knew what he had to do when they arrived. Trading himself in exchange for Gotham’s safety is the easiest choice he’s ever made.
a safety net of thorns by wingdingery
Dick’s night is already a nightmare—Blockbuster’s learned his identity, putting Dick’s friends and family all at risk, and Dick is desperate to find where he’s hiding before it’s too late. The last thing he wants to do right now is deal with Slade Wilson.
a knife, baby, edgy and dull by cheju
Slade’s presence should be unsettling, and it is – don’t get him wrong. But it’s also finally something happening, a chance for Dick to work off some of this tension. He’d be lying if he said a part of him wasn’t itching for the fight he knows is coming.
listen to teeth by cheju
Dick's failing his mission, can't get out of his handcuffs, and guess who walks in the door. Just fucking guess.
somebody's going to emergency, somebody's going to jail by perissologist
Dick’s mouth is dry. He doesn’t know why he’s so shocked. It isn’t like he didn’t know that Slade is a contract mercenary. A killer, to the fullest extent of the word. It’s just that—while Slade might have been the bane of his existence when he first struck out as Nightwing, recently…Dick can count more times that Slade’s helped him than hurt him. And he thought Slade was better than this.
your marks on my skin by Ana_Writes
And there- there was a mark, on the inside of Slade's hand, one that Dick never noticed- No. It's not that Dick didn't notice it. It just wasn't there before. But now- Now, after they touched- "No." Dick breathed out, breath leaving his lungs in a rush as if he got punched. He dug his nails into the skin of his neck and barely felt it through that weird burning sensation that didn't want to stop. "Why-"

Vampire!Slade is a seductive menace. Unfortunately, he's also the only one who can protect Dick from Ra's al Ghul.

The new Vigilante Reform Act has made superheroes illegal. Luckily, Slade can protect Robin. Unluckily, he has stipulations.
You All Over Me by brazenlyunabashedlyshamelessly
“I had it handled.” “Really? ‘Cause from where I was standing, it looked like you were getting your ass kicked.” “Yeah, well, you’re blind in one goddamn eye, I’d expect you to miss a couple details.”
melancholy (snap out of it) by Anonymous
Dick knows that voice. He recognizes it even before Deathstroke helpfully turns the lamp on with a loud click! and allows himself to be seen, casually lounging on the cot, legs crossed at the ankle.
Everything He Should Never Be by TimmyJaybird
Slade comes home early from a job, and a simple "I missed you" is enough to make Dick rethink everything they are- and whatever he had first thought they would be.
I'll continue to add more to this list as I gain more favs!!!

ten dead millions injured

Many thousands of civilians have reportedly been killed. The number of people displaced from their homes is well into seven figures. Densely populated urban areas have been reduced to rubble. Supplies of electricity, food, and water have been cut off. Hospitals have come under attack. Many of those fleeing, injured, or dead are children.
I could be describing Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which has raged on for almost two years now, or the terrible human costs of Israel’s military offensive in the Gaza Strip following the horrific Hamas attacks on Oct. 7. But I am referring to a conflict that has received much less international attention: the civil war in Sudan that broke out last April. Even as one lethal war captures the world’s attention, others roil on in the background.
Unsurprisingly, given its geopolitical significance, Ukraine has received considerable attention in the West, where leaders have been quick to condemn Russia’s war crimes. The new conflict in the Middle East has dominated headlines over the past couple of months. But Sudan’s crisis has gone woefully underdiscussed, like many others that for various circumstantial, political, or geographic reasons seem to matter less to the international community.
The West likes to think it has abandoned the racist habit of ascribing different value to human life in different places. We profess our respect for international law, which codifies the principle of equality. But in practice, our behavior does not always reflect this. Accusations of double standards from non-Western counterparts sting precisely because they have a point.
This is not to advocate for a zero-sum redistribution of attention and diplomatic energy from one conflict to another. Nor is it to say that we should care any less about innocent people killed, for example, in Kharkiv than those killed in Khan Yunis or Khartoum. Instead, more than 75 years after the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the international community needs to rediscover the tradition of humanitarian universalism. We must avow in word and deed that all human lives possess the same value and that the killing of civilians is unacceptable wherever it occurs.
Never before in recent memory has this been more urgent. The world has entered what David Miliband, the president and CEO of the International Rescue Committee, has called an “age of impunity.” War crimes often go unpunished. Nations increasingly disregard the laws of war: Torture, sexual violence, acts of collective punishment, and indiscriminate destruction of civilian homes and services are tragically common.
In a fragmenting international order, old mechanisms such as naming and shaming no longer work. Multilateral peacekeeping operations are in decline. These days, when wars do end, it is more often the result of one side vanquishing the other than a negotiated settlement. This new disorder arrived gradually—as the optimism of the immediate post-Cold War era gave way to new wars, power shifts, and then global economic crisis in the 2000s—and then accelerated in the early 2020s.
Wars are now more frequent, they are lasting longer, and they are killing more people. In 2022, more than 200,000 people died in state-based conflicts globally—the highest death toll since 1986 (excluding unilateral acts of violence such as the Rwandan genocide). Mass civilian casualties in recent years include the massacres of Tamils in Sri Lanka; the killing of tens of thousands of civilians in Yemen; and the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people in Ethiopia’s Tigray region. Such conflicts are forcing more civilians to flee, which is one of several factors that has driven the number of displaced people worldwide to a record 114 million.
Open Society Foundations, the philanthropy I run, provides funding to several of the largest humanitarian organizations to support their work on these overlooked conflicts. We also fund a range of advocacy and policy groups working to bring attention to the roots of these crises and mobilize the political will to address them. But this work can feel like a drop in the ocean. It needs more funding and scaled-up operations, particularly at a time when there is less news coverage of international conflicts, as media outlets have fewer resources to send foreign correspondents to distant war zones. When these conflicts are out of public sight, they too easily become out of mind for officials and politicians.
The time has come, then, for a new universalist global campaign for solidarity with victims of conflict everywhere that reestablishes the norm of equally valuable human life. This may seem like an obvious principle, woven as it is through the constitutions of multilateral institutions such as the U.N. But it is evidently getting lost in today’s world.
Civil society activists capable of crossing national and partisan divides should lead this campaign. They should cooperate with existing multinational institutions, such as the U.N.; nongovernmental organizations, such as ONE Campaign and Amnesty International; and far-sighted cultural and media figures with the reach needed to build momentum.
This global campaign should demand deeper pools of core funding for emergency aid, especially from groups of national governments, ensuring that aid responses do not depend merely on media attention or the largesse of individual governments. It should challenge both media and government to widen their attention spans and scope for empathy. And it should also demand swifter multilateral responses to crises, including by pressuring the U.N. Security Council to speak out immediately for basic humanitarian principles rather than deliberating for weeks.
Perhaps most fundamentally, the campaign should draw in a network of civil society groups, cultural leaders, and new generations of human rights champions to proclaim: no more hierarchies of civilian suffering, no more double standards, no more selective blind spots.
In an age of multiplying and interlocking crises, the international community must find room for solidarity for more than one or two benighted groups at a time. Global civil society should convene, whether in person or online, to launch this new campaign and reassert fundamental but increasingly sidelined principles of equality, solidarity, and shared humanity. As the English poet John Donne put it: “Any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind.”

"Not publicized to prevent copycats" is an absolute bullshit excuse in a nation of school shooters btw.
Please, please read this.
The Congolese genocide is one of the biggest mass murders in modern history, counting eight to ten million murder victims and millions of others severely injured.
As for Palestine, but the bombardment is somehow more intense than ever, they killed about 178 people including 52 babies the first day after the ceasefire. Zionists got hold of the photo of one of the babies cradled by his grandfather in his tiny shroud, his face waxy and eyes open and glassy in death, and has been passing it around, along with other similar pics of dead little children, claiming they're "obviously a doll". The open calls for genocide from the Israeli general public are more virulent than ever, and the IOF has arrested and imprisoned more Palestinians in West Bank than they released. The increase in intensity may be due to Blinken having told Netanyahu that "he had weeks, not months" to finish up whatever he wanted to do (genocide isn't good for the holiday spirit of the voting public methinks), and Netanyahu reportedly wants to "thin the population" as much as possible and herd the remaining survivors out through the Egyptian border.
Please take the time to scroll the tags at least every other day and reblog one or two posts. Keeping eyes on the unfolding situation helps keep the pressure on and politicians are clearly nervous now! YOU can't do anything, but you help create a vital domino effect for hundreds of thousands of people who CAN organize. Relevance is survival. Don't let these people have martyred themselves in vain!
