OVERVIEW

Hiro Alexanders (ヒロ・アレクサンダーズ), also known as the “Saiyan Hero”, is a young Saiyan who exists in a parallel Dragon Ball timeline. Growing up in a world overrun by chaos and driven to constant fear and despair, Hiro spent his days in rigorous training in hopes of returning peace to the world and ridding the planet of evil. He is a successor to Goku, and one of the universe’s mightiest heroes.

APPEARANCE

His overall appearance is very similar, if not identical, to that of his predecessor, Goku. Hiro is a brown, soft-eyed Saiyan of average height, a muscular build and a black, carefree hairstyle that actually takes a lot of care. He also wears a crimson red Turtle Hermit Uniform with a black inner shirt. Like all Saiyans, he also features a prehensile, monkey-like tail.

PERSONALITY

Despite growing up in a world filled with chaos, Hiro is a brave, kind, cheerful and energetic young man with a pure heart and strong desire to do good for those all around him. Because of this, he stands out as a shining light of hope at the center of darkness. He is a little naive and somewhat impulsive, but he holds a valiant love for justice and helping those in need. He takes great joy in fighting, regularly sparring with others to better himself as a warrior and a hero.

Due to his upbringing, Hiro is also sensible and pragmatic, choosing to get through issues in the most efficient way possible and end a fight as soon as he can. He can be ruthless when it calls for it, especially in the face of malice or when there is certain danger on the arise and many innocent lives are at risk. As such, he wastes no time in killing opponents he deems very evil and too dangerous to be left alive.

That being said, despite his love for fighting and being no stranger to violence, Hiro does not kill without a good reason, nor does he take pleasure in it. He greatly values life, and often shows restraint against less malicious foes. He strives to understand others; namely the people around him and the opponents he faces in battle.

Even when things seem futile or hopeless, and whether he has to go through, around, over or under an obstacle, through his heroic efforts, Hiro vows to find a way.

POWER

Hiro is very powerful, having defeated the likes of Captain Ginyu, a Great Ape, Androids 17 & 18, and Super Namekian Piccolo in his natural state. After awakening the power of Super Saiyan, he later defeats Great Ape Baby and Omega Shenron - the former having the power to affectively destroy multiple galaxies, and the latter - the entire universe. He was also able to defeat Ultimate Shenron while he was under Omega Shenron’s control and bring him back to his normal state.

Despite vanquishing a great evil from the universe, Hiro continued his journey of training, wanting to restore peace and make the world a place worth living again. In an era where Goku the others are no longer around, he is easily one of the most powerful fighters on Earth. However, the events to come would remind him that he is not almighty and can only do so much alone.

Later battles against many other evil forces from the darkest corners of space would lead him to join forces with other powerful good warriors and push him past his limits time and time again. Eventually, he becomes so powerful to the point he is capable to affecting cosmic space-time continuums when battling at full power.

TECHNIQUES & ABILITIES

- Martial Arts Mastery: Hiro has trained in various disciplines of war in physical offense and self-defense.

- Mimicry: Under several masters, Hiro uses a large variety of skills, fighting styles and techniques various warriors across the Dragon Ball universe.

- Flight: The ability to fly through the use of ki.

- Ki Blast: Basic spheres of energy fired as explosive projectiles.

- Kamehameha: A powerful, destructive beam of spiritual light used to damage and destroy objects in it’s path.

- Dragon Fist: A ferocious punch that causes an explosion in the form a golden, shining dragon.

- Solar Flare: A very bright, blinding flash of light.

- Instant Transmission: A technique that allows the user to travel great distances through vanishing and instantly reappearing in another location.

- Energy Barrier: A spherical shield of energy used to protect the user from attacks.

- Spirit Sword: An energy blade used to slice through tough objects.

- Spirit Bomb: An enormous sphere of astounding destructive energy created by the combined power of other living things.

EQUIPMENT

- The Flying Nimbus: Due to having a pure heart that doesn’t contain any evil, Hiro is capable of mounting and riding the Flying Nimbus freely.

TRANSFORMATIONS

Great Ape

When laying his eyes upon a full moon, Hiro will transform into a giant, werewolf monkey-like creature known as a Great Ape. In this form, his strength and durability increases ten fold and he retains his natural speed, but he loses the ability to reason and lashes out in a violent, destructive manner. When losing the natural source of power from moon, Hiro will revert back to normal.

Super Saiyan

In an emotional spiral of anger and sadness, Hiro, desperate to save the world he called home, awakened and transformed into a Super Saiyan. In this form, his strength, speed, durability and energy output increase tremendously. His transformation noticeably produces numerous bio-electric sparks like the second and third level. Though his natural base power allows him to effectively ward off cosmic level threats, his Super Saiyan form grants him the strength to battle and even overcome many adversaries of multiversal potency.

TRIVIA

- Hiro, though a Japanese name, is actually a play on the English word “Hero”, while his surname Alexanders is a Latin variant of the Greek name Alexandros, which means “Defender of Mankind.” His full name, Hiro Alexanders, can roughly translate to “A Hero Who Defends Mankind”

- In regards to tail’s his weakness, Hiro trained and overcame it some time before he first appears in the series. However, he still doesn’t like having it grabbed.

- Hiro suffers from severe arachnophobia; the fear of large spiders.

- In his origin game Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Tenkaichi, Hiro is voiced by Josh Grelle in English, who also voices Armin Arlet in Attack On Titan. In Japanese, he is voiced by Miyu Irino, who voices Sora in Kingdom Hearts.

- Hiro shares various similarities with the character Beat from Super Dragon Ball Heroes. Including the same hair, voice actor (Miyu Irino), personality type, the color red, their affinity for Goku, techniques, and being the “Saiyan Hero” of their respective worlds/timelines.

If you don't think I'm hyped for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero then you are a fool. It's been like fifteen years since we've had a Budokai Tenkaichi title.

I know a lot of people love Fighterz. And a lot of people love Xenoverse. But for me, Budokai Tenkaichi 3 was the height of Dragon Ball fighting games.

Yeah, they had to cut a lot of corners to fill all of those movesets. But that's not unexpected since the game had like 200 characters in it. And I used all of them. It also allowed for asymmetric battles. You could pit a team of up to five characters against a team of up to five characters which is very liberating when you're using a fighting game to play out your own story.

In BT3, if you want Tenshinhan, Chiaotzu, Krillin, Piccolo, and Gohan to all fight Nappa at once, you can do that. You can even set Nappa's health much higher than theirs to make it balanced. The game wasn't trying to be an esport; It just wanted to give you a fuckton of characters and let you do whatever you want with them. I loved it.

Now we've got Sparking Zero coming out and I don't know what the roster is going to look like. But in a really quick blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, they slipped a frame of fucking Bergamo in there. If this game has room for Bergamo, then that's promising.

I want a huge roster spanning the history of Dragon Ball. I want the flexibility to define my matches however i fucking want. I don't want to be handcuffed to a self-insert OC; I do not need a game that blows smoke up my ass and tells me that I'm the most special boy that ever graced the Dragon Ball universe. I just want a gigantic pile of Dragon Ball characters and complete freedom to clack them into each other like action figures.

If this game delivers, I may even buy DLC if it promises even more huge piles of characters.

Ce dessin est totalement une adaptation de mes OC Dragon Ball dans l’univers d’ @amiz06-certified-b1mb0 , ALLEZ VOIR SON TRAVAIL, C’EST JUSTE INCROYABLE CE QU’ELLE FAIT 🥰

Pour résumer, elle a créé un univers alternatif où la famille de Freezer ont une forme humaine (c’est vraiment très résumé.). C’est indéniablement mon personnage préféré, n’importe quelle œuvre confondue et de ce fait, j’en ai vu des fanart de Freezer en humain, j’en ai vu beaauuucccooouuuppp. Mais le sien… Oh my...😳 Bref, je n’ai jamais encore pris le temps pour présenter mes OC DBZ donc je vais en faire une rapide présentation :

Dress est une ancienne subordonnée de Freezer, elle a quitté l’armée suite à une certaine mission vers une planète inconnue (un jour, je raconterais ça plus en détail.) elle atterrit sur Terre et fait la rencontre de Son Goku et de toute la Team Z lors du 22ème Tenkaichi Budokai et en devient un membre à part entière. Elle cache ses origines auprès de ses nouveaux amis qui ne sont pas familiers au monde extra-terrestre, jusqu’au jour où Raditz débarque sur Terre et que son passé sera révélé surtout lors de leur confrontation avec Freezer avec qui elle a une relation… Particulière (De l’amour ? De l’amitié ? Compliquée à expliquer dans un bref résumé)

Kuriza est le fils de Dress et Freezer, il n’a de son homologue de Neko Majin uniquement le nom et le fait d’être le fils de Freezer, tout le reste n’a rien à voir X) Il est né sur Terre un peu avant l’arrivée de Mirai Trunks et a donc grandit entouré de la Team Z, sa personnalité contraste complètement avec ce qu’on pourrait imaginer au premier abord, malgré les apparences et son irrémédiable franchise et arrogance, il est profondément gentil et essais de vivre en dehors de l’ombre d’un père qu’il n’a jamais connus.

Je suis très nul pour faire des résumés y’a trop à dire 😭

Bref, Je suis en train de peaufiner un peu leurs histoires dans l’univers d’ @amiz06-certified-b1mb0, Mais je pense que Dress y tenait le même poste que Zabon et Dodoria dans ce monde, mais qu’elle en est partit il y a longtemps pour des raisons encore floues. Ce qui est sur c’est qu’elle avait bel et bien une relation avec Freezer dont est découlé Kuriza (Qui du coup dans ce monde devrait avoir un autre nom, mais je sais pas encore lequel 😭) Mais elle n’était pas pour autant une de ses ex-femmes, du moins j’ai du mal à l’imaginer ainsi.

Pour une première rencontre entre Kuriza et la famille de son père, il a un scénario qui me semble idéal, et cela tient en un détail : Kuriza chante très bien, ce qui pourrait pas mal intéresser un certain membre de cette puissante famille s’il cherche un nouveau membre pour son groupe 😉

Top Games Played in 2023 - Number 10: Dragonball Xenoverse 2

10. Dragonball Xenoverse 2 (Switch)

I've never bounced off a game as hard as Dragonball Xenoverse 2. In fact I played maybe 2 hours before giving up on it, so this is not going to be a nice review.

What I Like

The main reason I bought this game is to have a Dragon Ball character creator. And I think the character creator is solid. You get a few different races to choose from including weird ones like Buu and Freiza's. Pretty good options for customizing, including hair styles from nearly every DB character. And different races also play differently, so it's not just cosmetic.

You also get multiple slots, so you can create multiple characters.

I also think the graphics in general represent the series well.

The idea of the story where an enemy is trying to do "what if" scenarios and you have to stop them is a fun idea because you get to be part of those what-ifs.

That's all the positive stuff I can think of.

What I Don't Like

I hate the controls. And this is a fighting game, so bad controls completely sink it. Compared to the Budokai Tenkaichi series, there's way too many things you can do and it just doesn't feel good to push buttons. It's more of a bad feeling than anything I can logically explain, but it's bad enough that it stops me from playing more than the first mission.

I can't even bother getting further into the story to see if it's good or bad beyond the concept because I hate playing this game.

Final Thoughts

I bought this for around $10, and I think that's a decent price to pay for a Dragon Ball character creator. So I'm going to pretend that's all this is. I recommend it if you find it this cheap and want to make your own DB OC (and really, which one of us doesn't?)

A Red Ribbon android made by a scientist soon before its collapse in OG Dragon Ball. They participated in the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai and that caused a series of knock on effects for the rest of the show, a "What-If" case if you will.

"Alright, you asked for this! SOIKDAN!"

I posted this on twitter back in October, but never got around to sharing it here until now - Introducing my Dragon Ball OC, Corsette! She's Yamcha and Bulma's daughter, who's around the same age as Gohan (because that boy deserves more friends his own age). This specific drawing of her is her in her martial arts clothes as a teenager (circa the Buu Saga).

See below the cut for a more extensive character bio, as well as a drawing of her in civillian clothes;

Born during the five year gap between the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai and the arrival of Raditz, Corsette is introduced to the narrative as a wide-eyed young girl who practically worships the ground her father walks on. Bulma and Yamcha's relationship is just as on-and-off at this point as it was in canon, but she's too young to really comprehend that, and just loves when she gets to see her dad.

However, her entire life is upended when Yamcha dies in the battle against Vegeta and Raditz. Mirroring Gohan's determination to bring back Piccolo, Corsette decides she wants to travel to Namek to wish her dad back, with Bulma seeing no reason not to take her since, at this point, they have no clue about Frieza and think Namek will be perfectly peaceful and safe. It's the horrors she sees on Namek that inspire her to want to become a martial artist like her dad and his friends. In contrast to her best friend Gohan who, despite being part of a warrior race, doesn't like fighting and only trains because he has to, Corsette develops a true passion for martial arts, and makes it her goal to become the strongest woman in the world when she grows up.

Her life is once again upended when her mom gets pregnant with Trunks - at first she is resentful of her new baby brother due to not liking Vegeta, however once she realises that he and the warrior from the future she greatly admires are one and the same, she resolves to protect her baby brother so that the Future Trunks would be proud of her, becoming a rather doting big sister. The Android/Cell Saga mostly plays out the same as in canon in this au, however there is one major change during the Cell Games - Gohan's transformation is triggered not by Cell destroying Android 16, but by him killing Corsette, the death of his best friend completely sending him over the edge. Of course Corsette is quickly revived by the dragon, however, her death becomes a defining moment for Gohan, and only furthers his aversion to fighting.

By the time of the Buu Saga, Corsette is a world class martial artist, planning on entering the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai, hoping to achieve what her father never did and being crowned 'strongest under the heavens'. She doesn't attend the same high school as Gohan, instead going to the same school in West City her parents attended, but Gohan introduces her to Videl, Erasa, and Sharpner, around the time of the tournament. Videl's initial attitude towards her is a defensive, quick-tempered one, being jealous that a girl who is just as human as she is is fully knowledgable in ki, however the rivalry soon turns friendly with Corsette's presence spurning Videl on to train harder, and Corsette being glad to have an opponent for once who isn't an impossibly strong alien. Corsette is quick to pick up on Videl and Gohan's feelings for each other and tease them about it, however she isn't one to talk, as she instantly develops a strong crush on Erasa that causes her to become a shy, tongue-tied mess whenever she's around (paralleling Yamcha's initial crush on Bulma in the Pilaf Saga). Erasa for her part thinks Corsette is a total hunk, but anytime she tries to strike up a conversation, Corsette gets too nervous to say anything and runs off.

Of course, like in canon, the tournament quickly goes off the rails with Babidi showing up, and things initially play out as they do in canon - Majin Vegeta, Buu awakening, etc. However, when Gohan is spirited away to the land of the Kai, Corsette is brought along with him, and winds up playing a key role in the rest of the arc. Most notably, the Supreme Kai gives Gohan the potara earrings rather than Goku, and it is she and Gohan who fuse together rather than Goku and Vegeta, fusing to form Gosette, who continues the superhero gag from the Great Saiyaman, being a more serious western style superhero as opposed to the Great Saiyaman's super sentai pastiche.

Like Vegito in canon, Gosette gets absorbed by Buu (in this case due to getting a bit carried away with the superhero thing), and from there, things mostly play out the same as in canon, just with Corsette present and Gohan having a more prominent role. The evil Buu is defeated, the day is saved, and Vegeta and Corsette (whose relationship has been very rocky up to this point) form something of a mutual understanding as a result of his sacrifice; she is one of the people he names before sacrificing himself, and when Baba brings him back to assist in fighting Buu we get a number of comedic scenes of the two of them having matching temper flair-ups towards Goku, showing how they have more in common then they'd like to admit. On the Lookout, she is the one who throws him a thumbs-up rather than Bulma (who instead embraces him), and from there they form a proper stepfather-stepdaughter relationship. Erasa is also on the Lookout with Videl in this au, and is ecstatic to see Corsette again, asking her out on a date now that the world isn't going to end - Corsette, of course, responds by turning into a blushing, stuttering, nervous wreck. Yamcha has no idea where she gets it from.

I could go on into Super and beyond, but I've already written... god, six paragraphs of biography. As you can see, I've had a lot of ideas for her, this is just the broad strokes! Maybe I'll turn it all into a fic, who knows. But for now, have the promised picture of her in her civillian clothes (and in my attempt at a more rounded early Dragon Ball style);

“13. Have you played any of the games?”

I have played a lot of the games.   Budokai 1 was what got me to switch from Nintendo to Playstation 2.  From there I played Budokai 2 and 3, then Budokai Tenkaichi 1-3, then Raging Blast 1 and 2 on the PS3. 

Also in the mix were Super Dragon Ball Z, and Infinite World, although I forgot when those came out. 

I also played Ultimate Tenkaichi, which absolutely sucked, and Battle of Z, which was... not great.  I barely remember playing it, and what little I do remember involved me thinking that it was better than Ultimate Tenkaichi, but I had no idea what I was doing. 

I played FighterZ when it came out, but I’m not very good at it.  I mean, I could beat the story mode, but from what I understand that isn’t much of a bar to clear. I’m a button masher, pure and simple, so a fighting game like this just isn’t going to be something I’m likely to excel at. 

After all these years, I think it’s fair to say that the Xenoverse games are my favorite, not necessarily because they’re better games, but because of the lore and character creation features.  What really impressed me about Budokai 1 was how they faithfully recreated highlights from the anime in the cut-scenes.  Before Budokai 1, video game adaptations always felt like they took a standard video game format and copypasted a popular IP over it.  Budokai 1 actually had you re-enacting the events of the first 194 episodes of Dragon Ball Z, complete with voiceovers and animations.  And if you didn’t like the finish to a particular battle, you could do it yourself and play it your own way.  

People complain that the fighting mechanics in Xenovese 1 and 2 are kind of simplistic, and I can’t disagree, but for me that’s not the point.  These games carry on the tradition of Budokai 1 by making the re-enactment of DBZ a feature of the plot.   Your character’s job is to participate in these historical battles and make sure they go off without a hitch. 

And that premise allows for new lore like the Time Patrol, and you can see all these other OCs milling about in the Time Patrol base.  It’s a breeding ground for storytelling, which is probably why I’ve been writing a novelization of Xenoverse 1 for the last couple of years.

Truth be told, I haven’t played any of the games much lately.   I remember dusting off XV2 a while back, but I can’t even remember how long ago that was.  I should really jump back into that sometime, because it seems like they’ve introduced a lot of new characters while I’ve been gone...

So, like I mentioned in the previous picture, with all the new DBZ movies and the new series, I thought I'd have a bit of fun and draw some of my favorite couples.  While I drew Debra about a year or so back for a Mother's Day picture, I haven't drawn Tim in ages.  Both have had a style and hair update since their first incarnations.  ^_^

These are my own OCs, who also happen to the be parents of my OC Jianu who is featured in my DBZ/Yu-GiOh crossover series.

Mini-Bio:  Coming from a long line of martial artists, it was not surprise that Debra became one too.  Trained by her grandfather Douglas, who had trained alongside Gyuumaou and Son Gohan, she continually trained to do her very best.  She met and befriended Goku at the Tenkaichi Budokai where she was quickly sucked into the insanity that tends to follow him around.
