i've been thinking about how a starop first meeting outside of battle would go, and i think i came up with something good.

optimus is out for a night drive to clear his processor. sometimes, he needs time alone to think, so he takes a groundbridge out to primus knows where to get his mind in order.

as he drives along a deserted forest road, by some freak coincidence, he manages to come across starscream, flying over a lake. (he'd recognize that alt mode anywhere.) wary, but not wanting to attack if starscream's not doing anything, optimus hides and decides to simply watch, hiding along the treeline.

at first, he thinks that starscream is practicing battle tactics. it would look like it to the untrained eye with how quickly he's flying, how sharp his turns are, how wildly he's acting. but the more he watches, the more optimus realizes that these aren't his usual battle tactics. if anything, he looks like starscream is enjoying himself.

as starscream switches from alt mode to root mode, practicing trick flights to his spark's content, optimus' mind starts to wander. he thinks, is this what starscream would be like if there wasn't a war? all of the decepticons, really. would they be as bloodthirsty and eager to fight as they are if this war hadn't potentially brought out the worst in them? could they still become better?

he knows that starscream has done awful things. he knows that starscream was the one who led the decepticons in megatron's absence, stole bumblebee's t cog, and killed cliffjumper.

but as he watches starscream shoot down from above the clouds, free from his duties as the decepticon second in command, free from megatron, free from this war, if only for an hour, optimus asks himself, could starscream still become a better person if the circumstances were different? could he still have a chance?

starscream rockets over the lake, wingtips skimming the water's crystal clear surface, an exuberant smile on his face.

in that moment, optimus has his answer.

You can't even imagine how much I love this picture. Of course, there's a lot of things that could be added to it, but I can hardly mentally handle it. Maybe I'll refine it and post it again later, though, hahah

About the lore: it's pretty loose so far and a lot of things I'm making up as I go along. Things may change because of that. For now, I can say as far as facts that will definitely not change.

1. Miko is a yokai. Specifically a white tiger. This plays an important role in this story.

2. Optimus and the others are not gods. Or rather, not really. They're more like angels or something.

3. Ratchet and Miko still don't get along very well. I would say that their relationship is even more complicated for a number of reasons.

4. Optimus interacts with the guys more often in this AU, including Miko. And their relationship is much warmer.
