That’s a Tibetan macaque (Macaca thibetana)! This particular macaque is quite famous, actually: her name is Xingxing and she lost her arm in a boar trap when she was a baby, so she was raised by Ye Liannü, an 84 year old woman in a temple in Ningbo, China. There were attempts to return her to the wild but she kept coming back. She’s 16 years old now and has some mobility issues but overall seems to be doing well! Here are a few pictures of her with her “grandma”:

Three ships: Griddlehark, obviously. Shipping Rory and Paris from Gilmore Girls (my pfp) really encouraged me to seek out more sapphic spaces, which I am forever grateful for, and also they're just a couple of wonderful girlbosses that are definitely in love (skip seasons 6 and 7). Third place goes to the main couple from my favorite webtoon, Seth and Errol from "Say the Right Thing".

First ever ship(s): The first book series I was ever really devoted to was "Wings of Fire" (starting second grade), and I loved all the main couples in those books - Clay/Peril, Tsunami/Riptide, Glory/Deathbringer all resonated with me! The first one that tempted me to Engage With Fandom was Moon/Qibli from the same series.

Last song: "The Way I Do" from "Starship". Very sweet song.

Last movie: "The Glass Onion" (for the third time). Before that, "Freaky Friday" (2018), which my younger brother and I have a morbid fascination with.

Currently reading: I got the book of "Come From Away" for Christmas, and I'm going through it very slowly. I always love hearing commentary on the creation of a musical, although I still feel kind of burned from the time I wasted on DEH while Great Comet was still on Broadway. I'm also reading "Becoming Brianna" - stolen from my younger sister. I read the author's comic strip growing up, and it's really nice to see Jewish representation (especially in such popular kid's media).

Currently watching: I'm on season 3 of "Columbo", and I'm making my brother rewatch "Bojack Horseman" with me (his first time).

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Yes! There might be a few times I forget to, especially on old fics, but I always try to. They genuinely make my day and keep me motivated, so I want to say thank you!

What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Probably I'm No Good at Aiming (Boardwalk Empire, Benny/Meyer) I was a lot more committed to pure angst writing in Boardwalk fandom because the show was so dark. Now that I'm into rpf I still love angst, but I always try to give them a happy ending. (I realize that my Boardwalk fic was also partly gangster rpf, but I guess I wasn't as attached to happy endings because gangsters? Or maybe I've just gone soft.)

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Probably I Don't Care Too Much. It's a very sweet and hopeful ending.

Do you get hate on fics?

I haven't yet thankfully. Although when I get a comment from that one troll that pops up on Mclennon fic every so often, I'll know I've made it!

Do you write smut?

I didn't until I got into The Beatles and J/P! I used to be a little uncomfortable writing it, and usually just had a steamy makeout session or fade to black. But something about those two idiots just gave me the bug and now I plan on including smut in all my fic.

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I never did, though I had an idea for an overly complex Star Wars/Boardwalk Empire AU back in the day.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

I don't think so.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No but I think it would be fun!

What's your all-time favorite ship?

John Lennon/Paul McCartney. It's infected my brain and taken over my soul. And it's the only thing to get me back into writing after years AND to get me writing smut.

What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I have some fun Good Omens ficlets that I never published because they are just dialogue. I just doubt I'll ever get around to them again.

What are your writing strengths?

I always find it way easier to write dialogue than anything else. Sometimes my very early drafts just look like scripts with no description added yet.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I think it comes out okay, and I've gotten better at it, but I find writing descriptions and internal monologues difficult. I often get frustrated trying to get my characters from points A to B. I always get bored writing anything but action and dialogue. I used to think I would like to be a screenwriter for this reason.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I wrote some lines in Yiddish for Boardwalk Empire fic, but I always ran them by my Yiddish-speaking friend to make sure they made sense. I also had a few French lines in I Don't Care Too Much, but they were mostly spoken by non-French speaking characters so I worried less about them. I don't think I'd try writing more than a few lines without a native speaker's input though.

First fandom you wrote for?

Good Omens! I wrote some fluffy Aziraphale/Crowly ficlets but I never published them.

Favorite fic you've written?

I think probably Was I So Unwise. It holds a special place in my heart as my first fic in eight years. It's for last year's Beatles Secret Santa, which I associate with the first time I really joined the community of the Beatles fandom, and it's hurt/comfort, one of my favorite subgenres!

favorite time of the year : early autumn! cozy enough for hoodies and hot drinks, not yet cold enough to be really wet and uncomfortable, and all around beautiful! (yes, i’m that person that goes around with my camera out taking pictures of the trees and the clouds and the clear blue sky)

comfort food : my mom's cantonese barbeque roast pork! it's so good, how do i describe how delicious it is?  here, have a photo instead :)  this is just what i crave whenever i’ve had a bad or miserable day.

do you collect anything ? : i used to have so many collections as a kid! i collected those little perfume scent cards from department stores, and novelty erasers from japan (oh man, i used to live in a small town and once a year, i’d visit my grandparents in the big city and we’d get to go to the japanese department store in one of the asian malls and i’d pick out one (1) eraser set and that was me happy for the year).  i used to have a special coin collection, but it either got lost or stolen when we moved.  i still collect souvenir pencils, but i haven’t really been anywhere special for several years because of the pandemic.

current song on repeat : i’ve been jumping back and forth between ‘never love an anchor’ by the crane wives, and ‘when you believe’ from prince of egypt, aka rotating the elwing and eärendil vibes in my brain like a microwave plate

favorite fic : gonna second that shout out to the one with all the birds by clothonono, holy shit???  should be required reading for all silm/tolkien fans, this is not only one of the best elwing fics i’ve ever read but one of the best silm fics i’ve ever read, period.  an exceptional story about many things but also about mothers and children (take some notes jirt!). this fic has everything.  complicated and sympathetic female characters, beautiful prose, excellent study of all the main characters and where they come from as people, fantastic nuanced exploration of grief and forgiveness and despair and living, cheeky nods to fandom, great dialogue, birds.   i reread this fic every few weeks, it’s permanently open in a tab on my phone.

Pretty accurate for Renji - while he does feel comfortable in his skin with his relationships, and has no qualms in expressing his concerns/feelings, he has pretty low self-esteem. He also needs time to build up a bond with someone before he can really show his vulnerability. His past has caused him to fear abandonment, and this is probably the main reason why he's always hesitant to start a romantic relationship with another.

I do! I like to answer them the same day but sometimes my disability means no energy so I just treasure them until I have the time and energy to answer them!

Angiest ending is probably this one (Ni ceta... (I'm sorry...)) because I tend to give my angst in the middle of chapters and then happy endings.

Probably this one (cuun briikas'la oyay (our happier life)) because the other happier ones haven't ended yet!

I don't think it was hate but I once received a rude comment?

I mean, it was very soft smut if that counts? I don't really do smut, it's not my favourite to write.

I have actually! I cowrote the Codywan reverse bang fic with a dear friend @forloveofcodywan and she did a wonderful job (find it here Ni ru'kir rejorhaa'ir kaysh Ni kar'tayl gar darasuum kaysh (I should tell him I love him))

14.) What's your all time favorite ship?

Codywan and I will scream it from the rooftops.

15.) What's a WIP you'd like to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I, unfortunately, have this horrible disease called inability to leave a WIP alone, so they'll all get finished at some point.

I think my prose is relatively good? I do like writing that as opposed to action sequences.

17.) What are your writing weaknesses?

Action sequences and scenes with multiple people talking because I get confused.

18.) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

If we're talking fictional languages, I already do it, if we're talking real languages, as much as I would like to, I don't, for fear that I get it wrong.

Star Wars.

20.) Favorite fic you've ever written?

Nice and easy, it's the fic where I gave Obi-Wan a cane because I have one. It's also my excuse for using Tholme as a main-ish character for once because I love him.

god I'm so fucking furious at the removal of Te Reo Māori names from organisations around Aotearoa. it's a complete non-issue, every organisation has the English name directly underneath the Māori name. I have never once as an English speaker been unable to understand what an organisation is for. Winston Peters, the Deputy Prime Minister, who is literally Māori himself, said “Te Papa is a historic name but tell me this waka kotahi, how many boats have you seen going down the road?”. Waka does not just mean canoe. it means vessel, and waka kotahi (the transport agency of Aotearoa) explains this VERY SIMPLY on their official website. waka kotahi means to travel together as one. Can you see how fucking upsetting this is. A Māori person in power who is in agreement about banning his own language, being so cocky about something that he does not even understand due to the suppression of the language of his people. It makes me sick. I've seen reports from Māori people all over Aotearoa speaking out about how upset and furious they are, how decades of progress have been undone in the fight to restore the rights of their people who have for so long been oppressed and have suffered the effects of colonisation. Please share this if you can, I hate knowing how few people will hear about this, I know there is so much injustice in the world right now and it is so exhausting, I know. I love you all, keep it up.
