DE RERUM NATURA IS FINISHED & IT'S 166 PAGES LMFAO
Tumblr media
HEY FOLKS thanks for sticking around & coming along for the ride on this one! i havent done a fancomic in like over a decade & have been somewhat out of the Comix game for over a year, so this was a fun dive back in, & im happy i got this many pages done from 1/1 to 2/22 today lol

What the fuck is an animorphs and why are you going insane about it
OOOHHHKAY. WELL.
animorphs is a childrens sci fi book series most people know best from the fucked up covers that feature children turning into animals. like so:
Tumblr media
anyway behind these goofy late 90s-early 2000s covers is a devastating story about the horrors of war and the difficult moral decisions that the characters (who are like 13 at the beginning of the story, mind you) face while trying to save their planet from an invasion of brain-controlling slug aliens. and also goofy as hell things like instant maple oatmeal being a drug, god being an alien gamer, and an alien obsessed with cinnamon buns. there are 52 books in the main series each told from the pov of one of the six animorphs and several side books that provide more lore or supplementary adventures. featuring:
- jake, who is the leader and #1 killjoy ever and i always thought he was boring so i dont remember much about him
- rachel, gymnast shopping queen and ruthless murderer slash battle addict. absolute tragedy of a girl. imagine if sasha waybright was allowed to transform into a bear at will and commit murders on screen. if youre into oversimplification thats pretty close to rachel.
- cassie, animal lover and moral center of the group. people will gush about how animorphs makes you think about difficult moral quandaries and then call cassie annoying like shes not the reason we get that kind of introspection in the first place. girl is Literally always trying to do the right thing and Spoilers: she is right about A Lot. never trust a cassie hater
- marco, the platonic ideal of the sad clown. silly guy, full of jokery and stereotypical middle school boy-ness. also cynical and ruthless to the max and very interested in self preservation. where cassie is the voice of moral reason, marco is the voice of practical reason. his mom is dead so thats fun. hes also bi coded as hell
- tobias, loser bully magnet turned full-time bird boy. the trans animorphs fans have claimed him as our representative due to his perpetual identity struggles. he was my favorite as a kid alongside rachel hmmm i wonder why anyway i cant say much about him thats not spoilers but he's sad and trapped in this by destiny even more than the rest of them and i love him so goddamn much
- ax, blue scorpion tailed centaur stranded on earth who is the equivalent of a stereotypical elf. snobby and elitist bc of his species being composed of assholes but once the teen disillusionment sets in hes a good kid. and bc the andalites dont naturally have mouths, watching him play with word sounds and obsess over food is hilarious and kind of heartwarming in the best cheesy space-alien-meets-human-culture way
anyway the moral is u should read animorphs the pdfs are easy to find online there's a graphic novel series with a few books out now and im pretty sure theres also audiobooks (theres also a 1998 nickelodeon live action tv adaptation. dont watch it its bad and also it got cancelled before the books even finished coming out)

I believe that I made a post like this last year (though i can't find it because of how bad tumblr's search feature is), so here are some books I read in 2022 that I'd recommend!
Black Reconstruction in America By W.E.B. Du Bois
I started this in late 2021. It's a big thorough book but this is so it can carefully dispel every myth about the period, while also using these details to demonstrate a bigger picture: revealing just how much was gained in a short time, and how massive a squandered opportunity it's end represented. I'll have to write more about this sometime because this history is so engrossing that even seemingly minor tangents it takes somehow made me drastically rethink aspects of present day politics. (pdf)
Capital Volume 1 by Karl Marx
Another tough one I'd started the year prior, I don't want to scare anyone off but I suggest looking into some kind of supplementary material online when tackling it. There's not much I can say that others haven't of course, so I'll leave it at this, once I put in the effort and it clicked, I felt... It's as if somebody told you just now for the first time that living things are made up of cells. I hope that makes sense. (pdf)
Open Veins of Latin America by Eduardo Galeano
Read this one feverishly, it never hit me until this book how little I knew about this huge portion of the world. While as a historical text it is great, it's also is an excellent teacher on subjects like resource extraction and underdevelopment by using concrete examples. It builds a foundation to understanding the ways"wealthy" countries exploit "poor" ones. (pdf)
The Dawn of Everything by David Graeber and David Wengrow
As the fear around climate change understandably mounts there is also a growing need to combat eco-fascist rhetoric. This book takes on the misconception that the day we planted too many seeds in one place we became doomed to an unavoidable demise by offering interesting examples from our extremely long journey as a species. It's a book about how much more complicated we are, and how many unique directions we've taken. We are far from predestined for failure because of Mesopotamian farmers. (pdf)
Other Honorable Mentions!
Blackshirts and Reds by Michael Parenti (pdf) is a quick read and offered worthwhile new insights I hadn't considered, even if I was spoiled on the coolest passages from years of them floating around tumblr. A James Connolly Reader edited by Shaun Harkin is a great collection that got me really into Irish revolutionary and socialist James Connolly who was extraordinarily insightful and is not talked about enough!!! Since I cant find the book itself here's an online collection of his writing. Lastly Shame and Endurance by H. Henrietta Stockel (internet archives) is an account of the Chiricahua Apache's 27 years of imprisonment, a too often overlooked atrocity, that uses sources from this time period to document just how obviously observably cruel this situation was.

--
It is not that Wriothesley is a weak man, it is that he is scared shitless of Clorinde.
One wrong word and he’s staring down the end of her gun barrel, effortlessly drawn with a flick of her wrist, the tiniest twitch of her fingers before being held aloft at the perfect angle. Wriothesley is not perfect; he has found himself on the end of that pistol a few too many times, and even if she’d never actually shoot to kill, she’s definitely lodged a bullet in his thigh at least twice.
“Come here,” she says with a curl of her finger, and Wriothesley goes.
Three people—there are three people with this level of command over him. Sigewinne when in a nasty mood, usually seen when Wriothesley has (unintentionally) forgotten to take care of himself. Neuvillette, which—well, for obvious reasons—one bat of those forever long lashes tipped blue at the ends, and Wriothesley is weak in the knees. And, Clorinde, when she needs something, which never bodes well.
She guides him to a chair and forces him down with a strong grip. This is the worry. What is her aim? Clorinde rarely needs something unless it’s taste-testing for poison, or something of a similar nature. “Who’d miss the Duke of Meropide?” she used to tease when Wriothesley was a loner. No one back then, that’s for sure, and even now it’s a strange concept that a partner is waiting for him at home every night. That his sheets are no longer cold, and his mornings drag on with heated skin pressed together. Still, even back then Clorinde would only tease.
“I need your help.”
Right. Those are thoughts for another time. “Ominous,” replies Wriothesley, forcing a terse grin as he meets her face.
Clorinde levels him with a salty-sweet look that dares him to fight back. He won’t. She sees the way he squirms in the chair and her mouth quirks ever-so-slightly. She pulls a metal tube from her pocket and with a twist, reveals a length of red lipstick.
“A new formula,” she says. “I don’t want to embarrass myself out on a date if it’s shit, so let me test it on you.” There are worse things she’s asked of him. Wriothesley lets loose a sigh of relief, his entire being relaxing. “Oh shove it,” she mutters, watching. “You’re acting like I was going to ask to use you as target practice.”
“Sigewinne told you that you couldn’t anymore.”
“What Sigewinne doesn’t know won’t hurt her.” Clorinde leans close, resting her knee against the seat cushion right between his thighs to balance herself.
“Hey, watch it—”
“Hold still,” cuts in Clorinde, grabbing Wriothesley's chin in an iron-clad grip.
Wriothesley's eyes cant back to the lipstick which gleams bright red like blood. “I don’t think that’s my color, Cleo—Ow.” He hisses when her nails dig into the meat of his jaw in warning. Right, right, she hates being called that. It’s a hard life for a man whose love language comes in the form of pet names.
He holds still as she sweeps the rouge across the swell of his bottom lip. She hums, tracing his mouth with the red, her hand still and deft as she marks him up. Then, out of the corner of his eye, Wriothesley catches sight of a startled Neuvillette. He looks, face already creasing as he fails to hold back a smile.
“Wriothesley,” hisses Clorinde, tugging his face back and stilling it.
“I’m sorry, just—”
“Ah,” murmurs Neuvillette. He blinks, his gaze sweeping over Clorinde’s fingers against Wriothesley's jaw. Not jealousy, no—but Neuvillette’s expression cools slightly nonetheless. He is unused to close friendships and though he grasps that Wriothesley and Clorinde live to needle each other constantly, the sight of her painting him up must come as odd. “I… shall leave you to it, then,” continues Neuvillette, amusement curling about in his tone.
“Monsieur Neuvillette,” says Wriothesley just as he turns to leave. Wriothesley bats away Clorinde’s hands and stands, nearly teetering over at the sudden movement. “Wait.”
Neuvillette waits, a fraction of a second, just long enough for Wriothesley to latch his fingers around a slim wrist and tug.
The kiss comes as a surprise. They don’t kiss in public, certainly not in the canteen of the Opera Epiclese. Neuvillette is particular about these sorts of things which Wriothesley throws out of the window in favor of feeling tasting Neuvillette’s mouth at that moment.
Neuvillette falters, sinking into it. He sighs against Wriothesley's mouth, relaxing, lips parting ever so slightly to deepen the touch.
Unexpected. Wriothesley smiles, taking the opportunity for all that it’s worth, tongue slipping into his mouth to tease every corner. Neuvillette groans softly, eyes slipping closed. He holds Wriothesley by the bicep, grounding himself. Wriothesley cups his cheek, angling his face back, seeking out more—
And then Clorinde coughs very loudly.
Neuvillette jerks back as if jolted by Electro, eyes wide and tittering with the same sort of nervousness of a child caught with his hand in a cookie jar. “I—”
Wriothesley turns to Clorinde and asks, “How’s it look?”
Neuvillette’s expression turns baffled.
Clorinde hums, looking thoughtful. “Good actually. Not a smudge. Looks as though the saleswoman at the boutique wasn’t talking out of her ass when she said it was ‘completely transfer-proof’.”
“Nice,” says Wriothesley, drawing out the word. “Found a winner for Navia, then.”
“Wriothesley, what on earth—”
“The lipstick, Sweetheart.” When Wriothesley turns back to Neuvillette he laughs at his curled expression and the way his mouth tightens at the pet name. Perfect. “Clorinde was testing it out on me.”
“Also,” says Clorinde, “never subject me to watching such a display again. I only have one set of eyes.”
Wriothesley snorts, giving her a teasing, half-slitted smirk, to which Clorinde responds with a very rude gesture. Neuvillette looks appalled, unused to seeing her stripped down and lacking propriety. As far as he’s concerned, Clorinde is the picture-perfect example of polite and poised—everything that a Champion Duelist should be.
They watch her pocket the lipstick and leave. Neuvillette still holds Wriothesley by the bicep, rooted to place.
“Hey, there,” murmurs Wriothesley, dipping in close. “How about another kiss?”
“Wriothesley,” warns Neuvillette.
“The damage is already done. Everyone’s already seen. Why don’t we really put this lipstick to the test, hm?”
Neuvillette doesn’t pull away. He watches Wriothesley with a serene expression, thumbing over his bicep and tracing the muscle there. “Wouldn’t somewhere more private be a more prudent option if we were truly to test the integrity of the lipstick?” His tease shocks right through Wriothesley who suddenly cannot unthink about pulling him into an unused office and making out there. And Neuvillette knows that look on Wriothesley's face. He tilts his face up with a soft, complacent sigh.
Wriothesley knows a victory when he sees it. Neuvillette rarely grants him these opportunities to show him off as a partner. This time when he kisses Neuvillette, he keeps it chaste and sweet, unwilling to push his luck. It lingers, soft, gentle pecks until Neuvillette pulls away.
“It is not unhandsome,” he murmurs, reaching up to press a thumb against Wriothesley's bottom lip.
“Oh? So it goes with my wrinkles then?”
It is Neuvillette who then pulls Wriothesley into his office. And yes, they test the integrity of that lipstick—enough so that Wriothesley could likely publish a paper about it.

kai my good madam please read tihylttw. please. romance isnt even my genre but this book can barely be counted as romance its more like the essence of life and poetry somehow distilled into 200 pages. like i am actively sitting in the bathroom at school trying to deal with these emotions as i type this. this book and its descriptions and its prose and poetry Will take your soul rend it into a billion pieces and weave it back into a blanket to drape over ur weeping body i am not kidding. holy shit dude it's so good. its so good.
you can find a pdf of it here just. read it all in one sitting when you have the time. pls.
HI HELLO HAIII i did not forget this ask idk when u sent it (i think it was wednesday) but i specifically left it in my ask box for the link and also so i could do this

you seem to be denying of everything that has any sort of connection to new agers and your take on 'high frequencies' being compared to a dental drill was kind of , im going to say it, stupid. there is something called infrasounds and ultra sounds. just like the infra red and ultra violet rays. it;s a spectrum. they exist , and produce vibrations. a lot of things produce vibrations and frequencies even if you don't hear them. your speaker, microwave, your wifi , even light has a wavelength and can be attributed to e specific frequency.
i cannot find the paper i researched a few months ago on the effect of infrasounds on the human body but i will leave you another one. with a simple google search you can find many research papers on how infrasounds , because they are a long wave type of sound, can create pressures of the internal organs, damage inner ear , cause nausea, or even organ failure/tissue rupture after a long exposure.
https://apps.dtic.mil/sti/pdfs/ADA081792.pdf
i'm mentioning all of this because i don't see people believing in certain frequencies to affect them positively is that bad, considering that low hz frequencies can be damaging.
the other paper i found, also mentioned how human organs do produce certain low inaudible frequencies, therefore exposure to another source of low vibrational sounds can damage their proper functioning. i thought everyone knows you cant see the the entire light spectrum or hear high or low hz sounds. ultra sounds / high vibrational sounds arent a dental drill.
I am well aware of these things. The thing is, New Agers have very specific beliefs about the nature of sound and light frequencies that make dental drills an extremely appropriate go-to.
We are talking about a belief system that places wavelengths on a moral hierarchy, and links having good health with having good morals. "High vibrational frequencies" are assumed to be Good and Good For You no matter what. "Low vibrational frequencies" are likewise assumed to be Bad and Bad For You no matter what.
If we take New Age beliefs about vibrations at face value, then the sound of a cat's purr should should be much less pleasant to our ears than the sound of a dental drill. Relaxing sound mixes should use mosquito noises, not thunder. And this should be one of the most powerful healing artifacts in existence:
Tumblr media
Yeah, it turns out that in real physics, it's not a straightforward case of "low vibrations bad, high vibrations good." There are low frequencies that can injure or even kill you. There are also high frequencies that can take you out in horrifying ways.

I don't think the main thing with your blog is fic help, but I figured maybe? I love your blog as well, so there is that. I've looked all over my Ao3 bookmarks and whatever and CANNOT for the life of me find this fic anywhere! It may have been deleted cuz a lot of my favorite ones have been.
Anyways! So, I can't remember how they got there, but Dean and Castiel get rescued from a bad place. They are both Omegas. They have been like hurt, and to a way that Dean has to have his womb removed and cant have kids. And he's out cold for a long while. and when he wakes up he's mute? They don't want to separate from each other. They get taken to a safe house? And I think it's, well Dean finds comfort since Baby is in the yard and he always runs away to there. There is a court thing? Sam finds Dean and the people who are taking care of him don't believe him. And eventually Dean finds his voice and can testify in court? It ends happy and Dean and Cas are I think going to have another kid? Oh! And like, Bobby was a foster parent to i think Claire?!
It's killing me and I'm thinking it may have been deleted. If you dont know thats okay!
I love your blog!!
Hello!
I'm not an expert when it gets to fics featuring omega Dean, but maybe someone else knows? Even if it did get deleted, people sometimes download the pdfs so it's possible someone has it for you :3

im trying to figure out where the belief that hel is half skeletal comes from because its not something ive ever heard of before going online and im looking at wiki page after wiki pages which first of all reminds me to never trust swedish wiki they never have a single source, the second thing ive learned is that it comes from the younger edda which isnt my area of study, the last thing im learning is that its Very inconsistent in how hel is described and thus i want to find a not english pdf of the book
"One−half of her is blue, and the other half is of the hue of flesh; hence she is easily known. Her looks are very stern and grim."
thats from the pdf im reading but the not flesh part is disputed
it can be blue (R. B. Anderson 1879? the pdf is unclear), it can be black (A. Faulkes 1995), it can be "livid" (I. A. Blackwell 1907), blue (Finnur Jónsson 1906, this one in icelandic which is Hard to read), and blue-black (A. G. Brodeur 1916)
technically it also doesnt say which half is blue/black, in Ólafur Brynjúlfssons 18th century illustrations she has blue on her face but nothing is to say that the half cant be The Bottom One and blue/black doesnt automatically mean dead (krishna <3)
heres something to think about:
if its about the half being dead then maybe its her legs and shes paralysed from the waist down
if its that shes "half black" as some translations put it then vitilago is an option (note: biracial would also apply but considering how europe is right now then it being called half might mean very visually)
like just because her domain is death doesnt mean she has to look dead, we dont draw odin as a zombie lookalike and hes even died at least once before his actual death

#prev tags #one of the things that annoyed me when I was working as editor for my university newspaper is that according to AP style guidelines #we weren’t allowed to include accents even if the word was in a different language #and as someone who uses Spanish both on the internet and in my writing it’s really annoying #so I can’t imagine what it must feel like for people whose languages they basically have to cut and paste #like I’ve been writing my thesis and a big part of it has to do with certain Indigenous peoples and #not only is it difficult to write the characters but it’s also difficult to find proper spellings of the words I need in the first place
@woodswaspsandwords HELLO????? that is fucking . batshit! and its so disgusting and self-centered bc these people just dont think theyre shooting themselves in the foot the way they Obviously Are because they think accented letters/special characters "arent that important" as if theyre not like. massively important to pronunciation and to other languages basic alphabets. not even to mention how it rules out the entire use of languages with fully non-latin alphabets
ive been running into this recently more because of doing the chikashanompa site project, and it can partly be got around because its a language that fully has no official written version, but i was recently trying to track down the different characters for the accented letters used in the pronunciation guides in the dictionaries (a̧ o̧ i̧ ǐ ǔ - & one i literally cant even find as a unicode character thats like two Os with a swoop over them) and it was a pain in the ass especially to use them in the coding environment of neocities.
and on the site im trying to include the uniskript one of the speakers & teachers proposed in a ebook she did, and i had to buy the 9$ font pack + 1$ font pack keyboard layout pdf and it can only be used on the site with the font installed. technology advances and becomes more and more limited and more and more anglocentric. i have no idea how much the cherokee nation had to do to get the ᏣᎳᎩ ᎦᏬᏂᎯᏍᏗ syllabary added to unicode font so people can even copy and paste it between websites

tagged by the wonderful @iwonderwh0 to do a tag game!
last song: sabotage by beastie boys (okay well, now it's ライディーン by yellow magic orchestra after i've typed up the rest of the post haha)
currently watching: thafnine! or i guess specifically his T9 channel. i like to put on silly gaming videos like his when i clean
currently reading: i bought that "deep: a hankcon mermay anthology" pdf and i've been going thru the stories in there that i find interesting. i would read all of them, but sometimes i read the tags for a story and i'm like. why do you want to make me sad my dear writer, LMAO
current obsession: i mean. dbh. hankcon. the usual 😆 no but i had a dream last night about some borrower type people living in a house, no one in particular just some tiny people my brain thought up and cant really even remember anymore. so when i was in the process of waking up and was in that sorta half asleep/half awake zone, i dreamed of a hankcon borrowers story where connor, sixty, and nines live together in the walls of what ends up being hank's house after everything with cole and his divorce, and yadda yadda connor is too curious for his own good and he and hank become friends and fall in love despite the fact that hank is like 6'4" and connor is like. less than half a foot tall lmao. not necessarily an obsession but, y'know, it's on my mind. (hankcon is always on my mind let's be real 🫣)
i'm tagging nobody because i am falling asleep where i sit and i don't have the brain power to think that hard LMAO go for it if you want to and tag me in it so i can read it!

This isnt an unboxing vid but rather an unboxing description. A review, i guess, of volume 20. I think i did a kickstarter backing when i was like 12 or possibly 14, which was also when i took the resulting book to my therapists office and ranted about gg for like twenty minutes, but my mom backed it that time and i didnt get nearly as much Stuff as i did this time
So, first off:
I have multiple copies of beetleburg clank as it happens, but theyre either pdf or black and white on newsprint so this is easily the highest quality print copy ive got. IT LOOKS GREAT! Obviously i love the first volume cause thats the first one i read and i was soooooo obsessed with the art when i saw it as a kid. One of the best things about the big paperbacks is being able to see harder to read details like the honk lessons in the bg, for instance. Weirdly though, some of the panels with gil look really different than i remember? I may have to cross reference them to see if im crazy (im probably crazy)
Also, cheyennes coloring is really so good in volume one! I really love the subtlety that was put into it, and also i think he should do more monochrome sometimes. The way he uses value is great to begin with
No real comment on the story cause like, its beetleburg clank. I was there. In beetleburg. It was rad and i have no notes. The inclusion of the side story is also really fun. I remember this one from the website, and i wasnt really expecting it in the paperback for some reason
Volume twentyyyyyy! LOOKS GORGEOUS! Absolutely delighted. Money well spent. Fascinated that trogulus has a character entry and not rakethorne. Or kjarl, for that matter!
Something i think is interesting is how the pages kinda fly by when theyre uploaded one at a time. Most of this book really is the exorcism, and then we get the seadwellers. A lot of pages covering a relatively short amount of time in canon. In general i tend to forget how much has actually been posted until i look up something for reference, and realized i have to crawl through like twenty pages to find the one im looking for, lol
Even so, the amount of actual story being covered hits on some really good plot points in this volume. Weve got BOTH exorcisms, a lot of godqueen shenanigans, ardsley (rest in peace, darling), seadwellers, kjarl nonsense, oggie backstory, higgs backstory, and overall just a lot of answers and obviously more questions. And i like that it ends with the martellus & seffie convo. A really fantastic way to wrap up the volume itself
Some of the colors here I like a little better in print than i did digitally, too. Thats always a struggle with art, the difference between how different screens display color vs what different printers are capable of. So youre always gonna get slightly or sometimes even dramatically different values and saturation depending on how you view it. Interesting to see in action like this
Some of the more high impact panels also really pack a punch at a size this big, too. To me this is especially the case with the exorcism, theres a lot of really dramatic panel layouts during that sequence, and it makes me very excited to see all that mess on giant rat island and how that will shape up in print
I picked heros & villains for my sketch collection, and its really cute. I think it's funny how i cant tell sometimes whos supposed to be a hero or villain, and i also like that tarvek and theo are next to each other in the book. Thats very amusing to me. My favorite sketches are probably both agathas, lucrezia, and zeetha. I always appreciate how lucrezia and agatha dont look exactly like each other, but theres still a family resemblance
... My envelope of madness definitely has a lot of madness in it. I LOVE the lil bookplates theyre very cute. Even though im not sure what a bookplate does. Got a cute sticker, my arch nemesis is some sketelon guy (what else is new 🙄), a bunch of bookmarks (especially love the exorcism engines one), some sort of guild of monsters... Poster? Thing? Which is delightful, and a TPU student ID, which is terrifying as someone who managed to graduate after like 8 years. YOU CANT DRAG ME BACK, MAN!
Especially delighted by how much of the stuff ended up having a muse on it. I love the muses dearly
Great haul, good times, very pleased

NOOO WHAT ANON THATS AWFUL☹️☹️ maybe u got my spanish teacher from last year anyway i unfortunately do not have much general spanish advice bc its never been very difficult at my school and since ur fluent i cant just be like "Listen to spanish music😊" but for any language class study the verb tenses like CRAZYYYY i know it sucks and idk if it applies bc ur fluent but that is what has tripped me up in italian the most so if you ever study any language MAKE FLASH CARDS USE DUOLINGO WHATEVER ITS ALL MEMORIZATION AND KNOWING THEM WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE another thing that maybe doesnt apply to you but is good to take to heart for any language class is honestly what i said before listen to music in the language look at content in it online try to read one or two articles in it a week find people to speak it with. if its like reading stuff thats bad honestly just get a pdf in english and read it whenever youre short on time/dk if you understand it, in many cases this is the antithesis to the all the other language learning tips i just gave but it saved my ass when i was reading lazarillo de tormes and burlador de sevilla which is a liiiiittle embarrassing but whatever anything for the a!!!!!!!!! um if its grammar stuff like i said verb tenses are your worst enemy but keep your friends close and your enemies closer or whatever and its rlly easy to get points taken off in tests with tildes and stuff and the rules for that are rlly easy im assuming u know them already cuz ur fluent but jic ur like speaking fluent and not reading fluent yk. if you need any specific help ill probably be better at giving that butfor nowOh shit my mom is yelling at me good luck anon i love u by e

im wondering whether the first few riders in the 2000s were shot on digital or film so im looking this up again lol. okay edit, i did in fact find out, at least for kuuga, which basically answered the others even if its not exactly the same answer i bet.
bc like. in general, its honestly weird that we have these tv shows filmed in the early 2000s in HD today, at least compared to how shows were typically filmed in the us. japan had analog hd broadcasting starting in the late 80s but that doesnt mean it was standard, & the switch to fully digital broadcasting happened in mainly 2011-2012, although itd been around since 2003? but i think most of tv asahi's stations were still on analog broadcasting until the countrywide switch. things couldve still been filmed digitally & broadcast analog tho. kuuga & agito are both listed as being ntsc/analog format on wikipedia, but that does just relate to broadcast standards & not necessarily how they were shot. things broadcast in 1080i in countries that used ntsc like japan would have 60 fields per second, which would make the actual frame rate 30fps. itd have to be de-interlaced to become 1080p/30fps & viewable on a progressive scan screen instead of a crt one. the ryuki & blade blu ray listings mentions that, although its in hd, its been converted & upscaled from the standard definition original videos (which isn't mentioned on the blu ray listing for agito, faiz, & hibiki) & its also 1080i, or interlaced, which would make it 60i instead of 30fps & means they havent already de-interlaced it for modern screens. which could mean the "broadcast" version is the highest quality version they have of the masters, unless that IS how it was originally shot. oh my god. wait. okay holy shit i shouldve just checked the kuuga blu ray listing first bc it just answered my question, for at least that specific season.

i also put it thru deepl but i cant screenshot that as well on mobile. for one, kuuga was shot in digital almost for certain, or at least the blu ray listing says it was filmed with an HD compatible camera, which was probably digital given the time & the fact that the masters for the episodes were produced in D-2 format, which is a videocassette that stores digital composite video & was used for regular analog tv broadcasting bc it being composite video made it easier to convert than other digital formats. besides the difficulties of filming a tv shown with 16mm film, itd be even worse to convert it to digital to edit & then back to analog to broadcast. So, the masters were in SD, interlaced, & letterboxed (the black bars on the top & bottom to make it the right aspect ratio for tv) since it couldn't actually be broadcast in HD. which is at least sorta what i expected, but also lol i dont exactly have enough experience comparing analog to digital to tell with just my eyes, & there were some little things with the lighting on the early shows that made me wonder in the first place.
anyway, kuuga was originally shot in hd, but the final edited product was never "saved" in hd. its a bit odd that agito & faiz don't mention the upscaling though, because if they had hd masters then its weird for ryuki & blade to need upscaling since they came after, unless something happened to their hd masters, or agito & faiz also had to be upscaled but its just not mentioned. honestly its a miracle we have hd versions at all, even the upscaled ones, bc of how lossy magnetic tapes are. hibiki's blu ray listing mentions its 1080i, which is to be expected & puts it in the same boat as agito & faiz, but surprisingly kabuto's official blu ray listing is for 1080p, so im guessing its the first one they either de-interlaced or had an HD version of the master saved separate from a broadcast version, bc this is the first one in a while that has a format listed on its wikipedia page too, where it says 1080i (hdtv). like i said, the only previous ones were kuuga & agito, where it said ntsc. actually, in a pdf i found related to tv asahi, it did mention april 2006 being when they launched "digital terrestrial broadcasting to mobile systems" so it's probably related to that, or other changes they made to broadcasting in general around that time since there's another broadcasting related milestone at the same time.
Tumblr media
all the shows after this point have the same 1080i format on wikipedia & 1080p official release from what i can tell, altho i dont think any after the switch to digital would be broadcast only in 1080i, especially not the more recent ones, & wikipedia doesnt have a source for that claim lol. i can understand hdtv in general, but thatd include broadcasting in 1080p which would make more sense than 1080i at this point.
the seemingly back & forth levels of quality from kuuga to hibiki is intriguing but i really cant spend more time on this right now. ive used far too much effort considering i need to be writing a paper thats due today but. at least i solved one mystery lmao

So I need to really decide what this blog is about.. Yes in genreal it will be the prgress made on what ever subject I choose
Yet will this be strickly on that progression or will it be a proeranl blog?
For my first post it will be a mix of both since I cant decide and it will advance & evolve as I go.
First post
For the first time in a long time, I sat on a bench in a park without a swing. Watching the young leafs softly sway back & forth. Watching the clouds, envious over their graceful existence. Sitting & being okay with just existing is harder than it seems.
Well I guess it's time to properly introduce myself. I'm Donald Hughes, 22 laps around the sun, & A introvert. I'm more of a cat rather than dog person, Cold over hot. My ambitions right now are to become a writer. The way I would define that is by having an active project besides my blog. While looking around my local city website; I found a volunteer page. One of the things being writing a 4 page a month local paper. I typed up a quick email (expecting nothing from it) & hit send to the writing director. Surprisingly they are actively looking for someone to take over that 4 page a month local paper. Tomorrow at my favorite coffee shop thats right around the corner. I have a meeting with that very writing director. I have no credentials for the potions other then Ive lived most of my life in the suburban city. Even if I don't get to take over the project, I will find or make something else. In my thoughts "how hard could it be to start my own local paper?" In preparation I downloaded a few basic english pdf books from the internets. It's been a while since I last looked at the rules for English. It's fascinating how once you get a little bit of responsibility, It gives you a surge of motivation.
One other ambition I hold is to get foothold in photography, Particularly in real estate photography. Its something I've been wanting to do for a while now. Theres this person that has been doing photography since i was in high school. I messaged them & they gave me the recommendation for a camera & some lenses I should use for real estate. I remember always being told that I was photogenic. That I know how to take really good photos of myself. I know that it's not how I look but how I took the photo. I know how to see things & capture its aesthetic on a camera. I've done a photo shoot of my ex on my Yamaha MT-03. Edited them & when she posted them, her friends praised the quality. Other then that I've only done a few other shots & edits of my motorcycle in the mountains. Its a natural skill that I could profit off of. I know it's not a good idea to have that be the motivations behind something. Money is my biggest stress right now so it is what it is. I have a Iphone 11 standard, Perhaps I could start with that. Free commission so that I can build a portfolio to advertise. My first thought is to call a dozen or so realtors & ask if they want some free shots of a property they're showing. One thing I've learned while operating in the real world. If theres someone to call & past work to show. Thats as valuable as a college degree for a lot of applications. I'm not familiar with the linguistics of photography. The internet will provide me with some basics. I should go get started.
I'm gunna go get more coffee. Have a good rest of your day. Goodbye 👋
