Anyway have you thought that in your rat sons au Splinter might outlive the boys?
You're very cool :D love your stuff dude
(tw for some blood, light gore, implied overdose (kinda??))
hi copper!!! this is a fantastic question!
so obviously typical irl rats have far shorter lifespans than the average irl tortoise. according to google (yes, be awed by my spectacularly in-depth wealth of research) the average pet rat lives between 2-4 years ish, and the oldest on record lived to be about 7. meanwhile, an African spurred tortoise (Splinter's species) averages more around a 50ish year lifespan in captivity, tho is suspected to possibly exceed 75 or more in the wild.
Now, the mutation does give us a lot of wiggle room for playing with these numbers. For the rat sons boys, id say their natural lifespan probably clocks in at about 45-55 years old? definitely not old by human standards, but not young young either. (though, its also important to note that the boys were exposed to the mutagen just days after being born.)
For Splinter, meanwhile, aging is slightly more complicated. He lived the vast majority of his life as a regular normal African spurred tortoise (well, non-mutated at least. there were perhaps some shenanigans of a more mystical variety going on before he was mutated, but thats a separate matter) He was about 70ish i think? when the boys were born and they were all exposed to the mutagen. so he is already distinctly an old man turtle papa. id guess he'd probably still have another eh lets say 25-30 years after his mutation. he could probably push it a little farther even with some mystic nonsense, but when push comes to shove id say his 'natural' post-mutation lifespan would put his death like a solid decade or two before his sons.
of course, the tricky part of the matter is that theres no way for Splinter to know any of this. theres no way for him to know how the mutation affected them all, or if it even affected them all in the same way. especially since the boys dont show many physical signs of mutation for the first few years, and just kinda look like normal rats, (albeit with a more human sort of intelligence) — what sort of health standard do you hold them to? what if they simply dont show external signs of sickness or old age anymore? how do you actually know if something is wrong?
for a while there Splinter is very worried that one of his babies will just essentially reach the end of their normal rat lifespan, fall and not get up again.
so mostly, he just tries to live in the moment, enjoying whatever time he does have with his little ones, taking each day as a gift <3
not done talking ab fhjy actually so i'll just say some of you guys who go on about how you could've done better themes and narrative arcs can't even think critically about the one in front of you.
i do wish that the other bad kids had interacted with their foils more this season because it was fun seeing them trade insults, but i also dont think it would've done much for them. i mean, people forget the tbks did try to turn reuben early on (they literally saved him from grix even though it was his fault he showed up trying to kill people). adaine thought oisin was cool and tbks were onboard with thinking maybe he wasn't that bad, and then he sent his grandma to murder them and their entire school. fabian tried to get an 'in' with ivy and it nearly cost him a genuine relationship with a character who had a way better chance of helping them figure things out without the risk of being betrayed. kipperlilly had an ego-driven hateboner for riz since BEFORE the rage stars and killed her own party member in cold blood just to stick it to kristen, and you're telling me that she could've been my little ponyied into giving up her chance to squash the symbol of all her inadequacy? buddy and maryann are the only rat grinders who havent fucked them over meaningfully and guess what? they're not thrilled about having to kill them- they're actively avoiding targeting them! almost like theyre capable of distinguishing between someone not on their side and someone who's proved to be a threat!
brennan made it pretty clear that trying to befriend trgs in their rage forms was futile and actively punished it ingame. you can have your opinions of that, but it definitely had a narrative point: if you get rage starred, you cant be 'this isnt youuuu'd out of it. you think ONLY of rage, and rage can't be reasoned with. it's arguably worse than death, bc at least someone can revivify you and there's no lasting consequences. think about how hard brennan was trying to push the ihs into taking rage tokens. he knew exactly how dire he'd made the consequences and that was on purpose. the season has no stakes if you can just talk your way out of being rage starred bc tbks could save each other easily. the whole climax literally can't happen if trgs arent being evil bc porter can't be a living god of rage without followers. tbks hating trgs isnt a flaw in the story: it IS the story.
this scene is so much to me... like to me there's clearly a parallel between the hitchhiker and mac, right? that's why he launches into that speech afterwards like it's the most normal thing he could say... when it actually reveals his unsustainable and unbearable need to keep everything under control and safe. that's normalcy for him, to expect danger and risk everywhere and stay always alert so OTHERS don't get hurt. but it doesn't apply to him. if what he does breaks him slowly and silently, that doesn't matter as long as the people he cares about are safe.
As @dayglomasochism said...
it's the way he says it, too, that has my heart breaking. he's resigned to it, and he thinks he's doing something good, this is how he shows love after all, but for the others it's never enough, and it's always expected, and you can only ever let them down by trying. he's so calm about it. and he sounds tired 😭 IK I'm reading way too much into it but I like to think about it. mac is always under so much pressure and stress. and he's used to not showing any signs of weakness because the others need him to be strong. he only breaks in private, on his own.
if mac is the one always carrying everyone else... who's there to catch him, when he falters?
I’m fairly new to the fandom, but I do have a question if you can answer it! Why do people ship Daigo with Aoki / Masato? I tried looking to see if they’ve interacted before, but couldn’t find anything! Sorry for asking I’m just </3 dumb AND I LOVE YOUR ART OF THEM!!! Nerd looking ahhhhhh
hi ! welcome to the community i hope you're having a lovely time so far and ty for enjoyin my stuff :) no need for apologies it's a very fair question to have :]
i cant speak for everyone (all. ten people into masadai anyway) but Personally To Me i just think the idea of them together is very funny. thats quite literally it im afraid..
i just saw a really good post talking about how its kinda unfair to expect everyone to cow down to your muse just because they are powerful and roleplay has never worked like that where everyone is just expected to be submissive towards another muse just because they are evil/powerful/whatever. or they will purposely misinterpret aspects of your muse to make theirs look better or?? something. like. fucking earn the respect and fear.
Re: your last post... Cat supremacy!! 🙏 but you're so right why are dog people like.. That sometimes 💀
UGH I KNOW and like listen i LOVE animals, i totally get the urge to treat your dog like hes a special little guy and he is your special little guy! but like that doesnt extend to everyone in the world you know... when people bring their dogs to walmart im just like dude really?? or when dog owners let their dogs roam around without a leash like UMM theyre still animals and theyre still capable of harming other people dude... idk i just want people to be responsible dog owners you know?? i love dogs, thats why i want u guys to treat your dogs with the respect they deserve by training them responsibly and keeping them from causing harm to themselves and others yeah <3 SORRY that was such a long rant idk where this all came from apparently i have really strong views about this ok bye ily!
you know that shower oranges thing. theres like a subreddit for it. and i was always like haha thats funny but now that ive been eating oranges this past week for lunch at work and theyre like, really good? im like wow. what if. what of i ate an cold orange just biting into it while taking a hot shower. what if that could actually rock
sometimes in school i let slip a LITTLE hint too much about my incredible distaste for copyright as a legal system and its always so funny because im an art history visual culture studio fine arts etc major and i can see my professors' minds melt as they try to grasp with someone in this field thinking copyright is wack. i will play reasonably nice with it because we hashtag live in a society but that doesnt mean i care for it
I have this problem that’s like the opposite of nostalgia or something where some things I remember liking a lot as a child I look back and only remember the bad times.
This is specifically about Animal Crossing, loved that game as a kid, but I have literally no idea why, cuz it was just pure hell for me from what I can remember.
