There was no fanfare when Kay and Cath left their old home.  There was no housewarming when they got to this one.  There were things to do, registrations to file, boxes to unpack.  There still are, in some lesser used parts of their new home, boxes that have begun to collect dust because they have yet to decide where the contents should go.

Kay thinks about this as he stirs and seasons their dinner.  His habit of cooking for an army serves him well here, their dinner for two having become a dinner for six, more if you count the visiting pets.  In their expansive yard, people and animals alike get to know each other.  Cath makes the rounds, excited to be a host, offering drinks and good company.  It’s comfortable and fond, and in that moment, Kay wants for nothing.

He lowers the heat on the burner and calls out the sliding glass doors into the back yard, “Stew’s ready, everyone, help yourselves!”

He’d never been a proper host before, though it could not have been said he wasn’t a good entertainer. He delivered drinks and snacks as friends came, rationing out the pet treats they had on hand between the animals as well. When he wasn’t ferrying drinks and snacks to and fro he was cutting jokes and laughing, doing his best to make his guests- his new friends - smile. Those that wanted to see his greenhouses were given a tour, and anyone else was welcomed to relax in the yard and admire the greenhouse of toxic plants at a safe distance. The hammock was occupied by a handful of animals now, and the angel triumphantly led the small group that had wanted to see his green babies back out into the yard.

It made him grateful for a lot of things. New friends, the new house. Kay’s willingness to cook and feed them all, and put up with the extra bodies he’d invited in his excitement. When Kay called that dinner was ready, he led the troupe en masse, a pet under each arm and a happy swing in his step. This is what he’d always wanted, whether he knew it or not. A big spooky house for himself, his family, and to share with his friends.

okay what i first and foremost would want would kill me! or well: at least make me stupidly sick. aka, peanut butter banana sandwich. stupid allergies, and stupid cravings. so second contender right now would probably be a nice homemade pizza. i haven’t sat down and made a homemade pizza in ages. which i should really remedy!

You know I adore you, Birdie, but I feel as though the first of your cravings are always fatal and that concerns me sometimes.

You may be onto something with homemade pizza, though.
