#the GIW have fuck up one too many times
Text
Danny declared war
Its been years since danny took the throne and he's had enough
It started small like the GIW started shooting at the less aggressive ghosts, then it escalated to attacking non-fighting ghosts
6 months ago they started to focus more on capturing the ghosts then getting them away
3 months ago he discovered they were hunting for natural portals to the ghost zone
1 month ago he was able to locate the ghosts that were taken and being held
1 week ago he and other ghost made a rescue mission
And less than an hour ago danny watched what those...MONSTERS...they called HUMAN did to them...to HIS people
Theres alot he could do in this situation, he could call all the ghosts back, close all the portals, cut connections to the mortal world...
But he won't
His people never did anything wrong, and this is the last straw
.
.
.
The JL were in a panic
Things that looked like Lazarus pits started showing up all around the world, and creatures came out, they attacked government buildings and made as much damage they could
Then they took positions
Some were going back into the Lazarus pits carrying things and others stayed at the buildings
Others took off in different direction with no connection, they went to a place, sat down and appeared to be waiting
They sent members to deal with them, some to talk, some to fight and some to capture
All of them havent been heard off since
They were about to make a public statement when the biggest Lazarus pit so far appeared where all the press were waiting
It was covered in black armour with a glowing blade, and was followed by someone smaller than him, he had a green crown of flames, white hair and looked deathly pale
He called himself phantom,
Thats when everyone got an explanation
Phantom broadcasted footage of similar lookign creatures being vivisected, shot, burned, tourchered, and...people were doing it
It let everyone hear how the people though it was FUNNY, their pain their screams...everything
It lasted for 30 minutes of eveyone watching different videos of people expermenting and tourchering them
Then phantom spoke
Spoke of how his people have been hurt and hunted too long, told them the facility's have been distroyed, gesturing to the frozen and distroyed buildings, and how the GIW was a government founded division designed to hunt and experment on his kind
And he's had enough
He said he took the experimentation and capture of his people was a declaration of war between them
.
.
.
Batman was of the opinion that earth was fucked
They were now in a war THEY initiated with beings thay have no solid or reliable information of
Oh and over half the league that was dispatched is still missing

Dpxdc AU: consultant groups can be used to outsource problems for companies so why not monarchies?
Danny is listening to the various eyeballs and ghosts chatter on about all the issues that he now has to oversee and advise and make so many freaking decisions on. It’s annoying that it all has to come down to his call because he was a dumb 14 year old who didn’t want his town to permanently live in the ghost zone.
Now 17, King of the Infinite, and a bit wiser to the world, Danny is doing his best to balance his teenage ambitions to not give a shit and his protective obsession to very much give a shit.
Sams parents are making her learn the family business and Tucker is trying to make this internship he’s got with a fancy tech company out of New Jersey into a career without college… so while they’re commiserating with Danny the idea comes up.
Earth has a shit ton of heroes. Like, ever since the Justice League *poofed* the GIW out of existence with the Meta human acts- more and more caped crusaders seemed to be coming out of the wood work. More villains too but still, more people who seemed wise to their abilities and morals. Danny has literally never taken an ethics class.
But rn, Eye-mothy and Eye-Bert are arguing over how Danny as King Phantom is supposed to tackle the problem of some fucking pool acting as a weird trade route with a cult and… ugh it’s just so boring but like also such a fucking problem. But… maybe it can be someone else’s issue.
Opening a portal, Danny escapes into space and gets to work finding the base of operations- Tucker had told him there was a new satellite after all and there’s no way it wasn’t connected to the hero orgs- and boom he flies into the Watchtower.
“Hey- are any of you guys willing to consult on some weird pools of ectoplasm in Pakistan? Green and glowing little lakes of bullshit and magic?” Danny asks into the meeting room of the JL regardless of their startled and alarmed exclamations.
“… I could consult on that.” A voice comes from the corner, and Danny recognizes him as one of the bat people. Or bird? The guy is in a lot of red and clearly wasn’t supposed to be in this meeting based on the way he’s propped in the corner. The room erupts in protest but Danny barely hears them through his excitement and focus on the dude.
“Great! I’ll have him back before the end of the day! Lets go Bird boy!” And with that, Danny grabbed the Bird, chucked them both through a portal back into his thrown room and begins to explain the way these eyeballs are totally trying to trap him into doing more work than he needs to do.
“What do I call you by the way? I’m Danny but you’ll probably hear them call me King Phantom.”
“I go by Red Robin, and honestly, I’ve been trying to get this shit taken care of for years.”
From there Tim becomes a regular consultant for King Phantom- the Bat Family is losing their minds with him constantly going to the land of the dead but also Constantine said not to piss off the king at all costs.
Danny is just thrilled that this dude has a shit ton of insight as well as business sense- like he could legit run the monarchy way better than him despite the fact that they’re the same age.
They end up working together for years, and even when there’s not an active issue at hand, Danny will meet up with the bird just to talk.
Sam and Tucker think they’re hilarious each time they ask if Danny’s proposed yet.
Tim has already planned their wedding but all of that information is in a folder more secured than the nuclear codes- Danny needs to ask him on a date first.

DPXDC prompt. Family? Assemble!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reporter: Gotham News, and we have a new supervillain on the line. Mr Phantom, what are your demands at the moment? Phantom with lack of sleep and with tears: I..I want a titanium model of a spaceship! And to get a good night’s sleep and to go to the local school…and some fudge and.. Reporter: Oh, my bad. Just one question for clarification, are you by any chance an orphan or are your parents villains? Phantom: I prefer the term mad scientists Reporter: Okay. So, Gotham news! And with me on the line is the new potential child of Wayne or Batman. Want to know how two serial adopters will share a child leading a double life? Stay with us and find out. Now let's check in with Jessie for our weather report. Phantom: Wait, what?
~~~~~
Danny spends the night running from the Red Hood with a bag of fudge, Red Robin with a pot of coffee, Batman with the adoption papers and, for some reason, Brucie Wayne with an idea of internship at a space station. Ha! The Justice League will never let a ghost into orbit. Not that Wayne can blackmail superheroes or smth. Danny: Fuck you all! I’m done with vigilante activity, I’m not your competitor! What do you want from me? And I’m done with crazy billionaires too. I swear, I’d rather be adopted by a local mob boss just to piss you off! ~Later~ Danny *sees peering out of the corner Matches Malone*: Are you kidding me?! Robbie *jumps off the roof and lands right behind Danny*: Stop running, lil brother, No one’s left the family yet. Minnie: What about Neal? Robbie *shakes a knife with a bow on the handle negatively*: He’s on sabbatical, that doesn’t count. Anyway, it’s a gift for you, cub. Danny: Um, thank you, but my lab scalpels are definitely sterile, and your blade was in who knows who before you brought it here. Robbie: It’s brand-new! And Archie decorated it with a ghost on the handle. Look! It's cute! With a smile and… Dick: Hands up! You’re under arrest for trying to steal our new member! Minnie: Why is he yours, damn cop? Selina: Boys, don’t fight. He’s mine. Schrodinger’s cat is still a kitten. Killer Croc: No way, my niece is staying with me. Danny: Uncle Waylon? Long time no see. Ra's: My grandson needs steady access to ectoplasm. Danyal, come with me. Danny: Over my dead body! Oh shiii…I mean no. Anyway, don’t you think the alley’s getting a little crowded?
~~~~
Killer Croc: Is he still mad at me? RR: Danny doesn’t talk to uncles who tried to eat his beloved brother Red Robin. Killer Croc: He wasn’t even your brother then. What do you want? An apology from me? RR: That would be nice.
~~~~
Danny: I didn’t think the GIW agents would really fear the reputation of Gotham and not follow me. What a relief! Jason *quickly throws the knife into the sink*: Wow, you got lucky. Alfred: Master Jones, why don’t you eat your steak? I thought last week you were complaining to Batman that 'cause of him you got not many prey. Croc *pulls a piece of white robe from the teeth*: Well, now there is a lot of it. Bruce *gives Jason and Croc the side-eye*.
~~~~
Ra's: You do realize that Malone, Wayne and Batman are the same person, right? Boy, you were born into a family of geniuses, don’t disappoint Grandpa. Danny: Triple pocket money, triple gifts for the holidays, the opportunity to complain about the same family member three times. No, Grandpa, I definitely don’t understand. Ra's: Smart little weasel.
~~~~
Selina: Okay. Purely theoretical. Do you like to steal? Danny: I wouldn’t say that. But somehow I stole the sword from the fright knight. And also stole few jewels but then I was under the mind control. I returned them. Well, the crown and ring of the king of the ghost zone I also took without permission. Oh, and the answers to the test once. And I’m really sorry about the last one. Neal: I feel the story behind it but I prefer to know nothing about it.
I've seen references to it in other Prompts?
But unironically? Paulina should Heckle superheroes more.
Like? Look at her AS A CHARACTER. You think she respects Authority? In their Tacky suits and with their weak ass boundaries she's been stomping over her ENTIRE LIFE, largely unpunished? Because she's Pretty and gifted in the Social Grace's department?
Granted, rarely USES them on most of these needs. But she HAS them and CAN. Why do you thinks she THE popular girl? Looks? Please. There are plenty of pretty girls out there. SHE can make you feel like you're the most important person in the whole world. Her BEST friend.
SHE put in the work to have flawless skin and a complexe social network based on future networth and political significance. A cute butt. Socials beyond reproach.
And SHE? Is so, SO fuckin PISSED.
Her Boo (don't judge her, it's a cute pun) is being SHOT at! Is run in to the ground EXHAUSTED. Doing jobs that CERTAIN people should be getting off their asses to do. CERTAIN people keep making pretty little speechs and getting good PR, while out here HER BOO is getting LAZER HOLES punched through him!
He should be of DATES. Laughing and going for flights. Sitting in the bleachers of cheer practice, safe and silly and shouting tips even though he doesn't know the first thing about Cheer. Getting to be YOUNG. In love!
And Paulina? Always on her phone. Their socials are just... RIGHT THERE. Oooh, Mr. "We protect everybody, aren't we such GOOD GUYS~☆" Her favorite flats! And, maybe, yeah, it's the pain from getting THROWN from the top of the pyramid they were practicing by that fucking GIW explosion.
Maybe it's the fact that Phantom hand to shield her with his BODY and those bastards SHOT at them. Could be the squad egging her on, furious and phones out. But how the weather in Metropolis, Supes? Enjoying up in your little ivory tower? Guess only city kids matter, huh?
Fastest man alive to ignore a genocide, HUH, Flash?
Nice Speech, Wonder Hypocrite. Guess "all woman are Amazons" until they're DEAD. Then you can do what you want to them?
Just. These Pretty, Bland, Offend No One, We're Aiming For Good Sport Colleges And Know They Check These accounts? Going NUCLEAR. All pretty, made for TV faces too. The sort of thing that makes for GREAT news segments and terrible PR.
Because? If Paulina is doing it? Well, A Lister solidarity. Jocks gotta have their back. They've been holding back some Opinions(tm). Time to throw um to the web.
And the blockades? Doesn't do SHIT. Because the GIW forgot one simple factor(well, MANY factors).
Cheerleaders have Away Games.
Paulina and Company? If they can't text INSIDE Amity? Fine. They'll cue them up. Release them at Amity VS. Whatever loser they're crushing next. Rah, rah, go teeeeam! Guess who has internet nooooooow!
GIW may have access to high tech devices and authoritarian control... but they're IDIOTS prone to easily avoidable human errors.
Meanwhile? Most of the JLA is metaphorically ON FIRE.
GIW scientist: "What was the one thing we specifically told you to do."
GIW Guard: "Not get attached..."
GIW scientist: "What was the one thing we specifically told you not to do."
GIW Guard: "Get attached..."
GIW scientist: "And what did you do?"
GIW Guard: "Get attach-"
GIW scientist: "YOU GOT A-FUCKING-TTACHED!"
===
The GIW finally managed to get their hands on the Phantom menace, thankfully helped by the recent changes in the ghost in a Moth-like direction, and with the recent explosion giving it an orphan status, it was all too easy to get the ghost into their hands.
Of course, there was the ghost's godfather, but a few government tricks and he was erased from having any to all connection with the thing.
But due to it being the Phantom menace, it was quite difficult to control. So that lead to one scientist having the brilliant (sarcasm) idea to run a test that made it more... manageable.
That somehow involved it becoming a child, with the added and original plus with its powers no longer being easily controlled by it. But that, paired with a child-like mind didn't become well.
At the very least, it was easier to physically subdue when it wasn't throwing a tantrum. But they encountered another problem that came as an unintentional side-effect.
It was cute.
Like a stuff toy you would sleep with as a child, or a show with a cutesy art style and anything that just made one go "Awww" and that? That was a problem.
The guards just didn't have to become attached, and everything shouldn't been fine. But one of them did and that somehow lead to the thing escaping and that was highly annoying.
Oh well, it shouldn't have gotten too far, all things considered. Various injuries aside, its powers do not come as easily as it did to it before, and there were not many times to practice ones such as flight.
It will come back to their hands, either forcefully, or willingly.
===
Danny, fully pumped on adrenaline and fear, has been pushing himself to fly for he doesn't even know how long. But he's becoming very tired, and can feel his power slipping from his fingertips.
Or maybe that was the blood, he couldn't tell.
He kept going, pushing himself farther past his limit to just, escape. But he couldn't do so forever, he had to drop sometime, and that time seemed to be coming closer with each and every passing second.
Eventually, he dropped, and he quickly tried to do that gliding thing he was kinda good at. It helped, though he did hit into a few trees, here and there, but he got down to the forest floor, fell, got up, and forced himself to walk.
His vision was really fuzzy, everything he touched felt like static beneath his fluffy hands and feet, and he could hear everything so clearly yet nothing at all.
He just had to keep walking, and he would be okay.
Just persevere, and everything would turn out okay.
Everything would be, okay.
He just had to keep moving.
Even if his legs felt like static, his chest burning and his wings dragging behind him as he found it harder and harder to breath as black started to eat away at his vision.
Everything would be okay.
He just had to persevere.
Eventually, he couldn't, falling to the forest floor as his eyes slowly dropped as black consumed his vision.
He couldn't persevere.
===
So, Killer Moth was just in a forest, as one would, looking for quite the rare specimen of Moth larvae that he could use in his plot to take over Jump City.
Why this forest?
It was pretty far away from Jump City, that's why. No pesky Titans to interrupt his search here, which happened once, wasn't fun might he add.
During said collection, he found what looked to be a child passed out on the forest floor.
Now, any reasonable person would question why there was a child on the forest floor, which he was tempted to do, before realizing that said child is perhaps an escaped experiment, based on the precise wounds upon his body.
Said child was a moth humanoid.
He didn't like that, someone tried to take his theme!
Oh well, their loss, his gain. Another moth to add to his ever-growing army, and his another he could use in his attempt to take over Jump City.
Also, finder's keepers.
Got another dc x dp writing prompt blurb thing for yall (this time featuring TimKon)
Elle declaring herself Queen of the Clones as a joke because Danny is the Ghost King and she should get a fun title too and accidentally making herself effectively the god of clones across all dimensions as a result.
Elle being suddenly aware of all the clones in existence in a vague way, but able to "tune in" on specific ones, or suddenly becoming aware when a clone is in serious trouble.
Elle deciding, fuck it, she's gonna take care of all the clones that need taking care of, turning her haunt in the Ghost Zone into a place of safety, using her new abilities as God Queen of Clones to make it so whenever any of them need help they get pulled to her Haunt instantly.
Connor getting mortally wounded in a fight, saving the day but getting buried in rubble away from where anyone would be able to dig him out in time to save him and suddenly being Somewhere Else.
Connor getting saved by Elle and the yetis, but having amnesia from the severe headroom (he can't remember anything except maybe the face of a boy his age, dark circles under sharp blue eyes, a wry smile, the understanding that Connor was in love with whoever the boy is or was).
Elle not being able to tell where Connor is from, her Haunt just pulls clones in trouble in when they need her help, there's no sending address or anything like that. And he was in such bad shape its not like she trusts that sending him back to where ever he's from is even safe to do.
Connor being one of the permanent residents of Elle's haunt (she always tries to find the clones that end up there a place of their own, getting Clockwork to de-age them and a good family to love them for those that want that, a spot in Amity where clones don't even register as anything weird, or just back to where they came from but now with the promise of somewhere to call home and a new family of clones to care for them) and ends up with the title of her knight or champion or something along the way, looking after everyone when Elle is off traveling and generally being vice-president of Clone Club
Elle getting captured by the GIW while out seeing the world, unable to escape but at least able to alert her family that she's in trouble.
Danny and the Pham not being able to break in because of all the upped security keeping away anything ghostly or ghost adjacent
Connor and a group of the clone club rallying to get Elle out themselves, breaking in and releasing as many ghosts as they can and destroying as much as they can and oops the Justice League has shown up
Connor not having powers in the Ghost Zone and being very freaked out when he punched Superman in the face and sent him flying a hundred yards, surprising the Clone Club with his super strength and surprising the League with his surprise about his super strength and frantic apologies to Superman for yeeting him across an open field (up to this point they assumed this was another evil clone situation Lex cooked up but now aren't so sure).
The GIW ends up closing in to attack the clones who just got Elle back and need to make a break for it before the portal back closes while that's happening and Connor decides to be self-sacrificing and give them cover, so they can escape.
Connor surrendering to the Justice League before the GIW can grab him once everyone else is free and clear, because he knows Elle and the other Clones will break him out and that's gonna be a lot easier if he's not in GIW custody
Tim and the Young Justice gang losing their God damn minds because that's Connor?? Maybe?? He doesn't remember them or the Justice League or Superman or anything but it has to be him right? They never found his body, Tim had been so sure he was still out there alive somehow - had lost weeks and months to maddening grief, desperately searching for some sign that Connor was out there somewhere - and now here he is!
Connor refusing to talk to the JL, low key trying to figure out if they actually do know who he is or if it's a trick - the Pham's stories of what they've all had to deal with and his own recent raid on the GIW has left him with a healthy suspicion of anything government related and the JL may not be with the GIW but they sure as hell are still government goons as far as he's concerned.
The main league being worried that it's mind control or a clone scheme or something like that and not really being sure what to do. There's too many questions about what happened to him, where he's been, what he was doing in that raid on that government facility - there's questions too on just what kind of facility that was, and a new case has already been opened on that whole can of worms - and Connor (if it is Connor) isn't answer their questions.
So they put him in a cell with some Kryptonite to make sure his powers are suppressed - half out of concern that him surrendering to them is a scheme, half terrified that if he really doesn't know he has powers anymore that he'll accidentally destroy the Watchtower with a sneeze. They make sure it's comfortable, he did apologize about punching Superman in the face - a lot, actually, it was pretty much the only thing he had said the entire time, along with very concerned questions on if the Man of Steel was okay - and while there's something strange going on, if it's mind control then they'd rather Connor come back to himself somewhere decent.
And no one is supposed to talk to him alone, or outside of a formal interrogation or without Wonder Woman there in case Connor gets hostile - even with the Kryptonite, they can't be too careful - but that's not going to stop Tim. His best friend is alive, there isn't a power in the universe that's going to keep him away.
Connor doesn't recognize him. Except that he does. It's weird, because his only memory has been the face of that boy, but there's also just something so familiar about Red Robin and it's the first familiar thing he's known since waking up in the Far Frozen over a year ago.
For awhile it's just Tim talking, trying to get Connor to remember, trying to do anything he can to prove (to everyone, to himself) that this really is Connor. And after over an hour he's nowhere near ready to give up, but he is maybe ready to go and have a breakdown in a supply closet for a bit, when Connor finally starts talking back.
He doesn't say much - he's suspicious, even as he becomes more and more sure that Red Robin is someone to him - but he does start talking and, it's nice. Familiar.
And just as he's considering actually telling Red Robin something - everything, really, Connor's always been a sucker for a cute boy that looked one more cup of coffee away from a psychotic break - the cavalry arrives. Ghosts everywhere, causing a distraction and looking for Connor and maybe just having a little fun fucking around for a bit while they're at it.
(Constantine is trying to sneak off to smoke somewhere he won't end up getting lectured like he's a disobedient school boy, opening a door to come face to spectral bellybutton with Fright Knight. He decides maybe Bats is right and he should quite smoking as he - fruitlessly - closes the door again without a word.)
Wulf is ready with a portal and Technus is in control of the station and the cell door opens just as Lunch Box appears to phase the cuffs off Connor (and maybe steal some of that delicious rock candy that was in those cuffs for some reason, her parents won't let her have any back at home and she's helping the royal family get one of their loyal knights back, she deserves a little treat) and it's time to go.
Tim's ready to throw down, terrified that whatever the hell these things are they're going to take Connor away again, but just as he's working out a plan on just how he's going to fight something that can walk through walls, disappear and fly (and eat fucking Kryptonite), he suddenly finds himself being thrown over Connor's shoulder and being carried through a terrifying rip in space and time to another dimension.
Conner can admit, as he lands back in Elle's haunt with all the ghosts streaming in behind him as the portal closes and the Clone Club rushing forward to check on him and Red Robin still slung over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes (a cute sake of potatoes, though) he might not have thought this one through.
Kidnapped by his amnesiac and possibly mind controlled best friend and dragged to hell(?) aside, Tim's just happy Conner brought him with him this time. Batman and the rest of the League, still reeling from what just happened, are not nearly as happy with that fact.
Ghost cores being mistaken for something like an egg is a niche in this fandom that makes me so feral, I have so many fic prompt ideas.
One thought that keeps going through my head is Danny gets hurt some how (Escaping GIW? The Fentons vivisection?) and ends up in the care of a hero. There isn’t enough ectoplasm around him to heal his wounds and keep him alive at the same time, so in order to preserve energy and focus on healing he needs to retreat into his core and go into a sort of ghost coma.
Deciding to put his trust this hero, Danny tries to explain that his injuries are too severe to heal in his current state, he ‘can’t stay’, but doesn’t have anywhere to keep his core safe. He cannot stress enough just how important his core is, how fragile it is, about how he didn’t have anyone he could trust to properly take care of it, and just begging them to keep GIW away from his core.
The hero agrees to take care of their core and not turn it over to the government, if only to calm him down so they could attempt to treat his injuries to the best of their abilities. Hearing them promise to take care of him until he’s well enough to take care of himself gives Danny enough relief to just disappear. He literally fades from existence, leaving behind a bright green orb the size of a crystal ball.
In a mix of adrenaline, panic, and blood loss, Danny gives the hero the impression that he’s an meta/alien that escaped from government experimentation, begged them to take care of his ‘core’ and keep it safe from the government that was experimenting on him, died on their couch, and left behind a fucking egg the color of the Lazarus pit/Kryptonite.
After some time Danny heals enough to be semi-conscious and, feeling a little guilty/embarrassed about making this random hero responsible for him, tries to force his reforming before he has enough ectoplasm to return to his original teenage/adult form. He ends up reforming way younger than he really is (maybe he has just enough ectoplasm to form as a toddler/baby instead of a teenager, maybe he reforms at his ghost age, maybe his mind is so focused on the embarrassment of being cradled and cared for like a baby that his ectoplasm is like: “Oh, OK. So we’re a baby now :D ”), giving more credence to the thought of it being an egg that just hatched.
Just shenanigans with the hero trying to take care of an egg then a meta baby, while said meta baby tries to figure out how to get back to his original state.
I’m seeing a lovely trend of recommending DPxDC fics going around so here I am throwing my hat into the ring lol
Beauty lays behind the hills by Library_of_Chronos
Danny loses everything. He runs fast and he runs far, somehow ending up in a back alley known as Park Row, where a strange man with flowers in his hands changes his life.
While Danny does end up staying with Bruce and a much younger Dick, the story focuses more on giving Danny a good support system both within Wayne Manor and with the Justice League, as they all come together to help Danny fight against Vlad. Status: Incomplete
Law of Retribution by Michaelisunderatted
“The ghosts like you.”
Danny watched as Red Hood reeled. Now that he thought about it, that was probably a creepy thing to say. Danny hadn’t talked to living people in years though, so Jason really should cut him some slack. He was trying his best. It wasn’t his fault living people had such weird hang ups about things.
“Okay,” Jason said, taking a deep breath. “Okay kid, what the fuck.” ...
Jason starts seeing ghosts. Danny comes back to the Living Realm for the first time since the Incident.  He has a job offer for Red Hood
I have not caught up with this one myself, but so far I’m really enjoying the darker/more serious tone of the story. Jason sees ghosts, Danny fumbles the “how to human” ball, and Duke takes no shit. It’s great! Status: Incomplete
Sundials by AkelaNakamura
Damian Wayne is nearing sixteen and it's finally feeling like a future is something he might get to choose. He has a Soulmate, somewhere, who is no longer subject to Grandfather's judgement. He wonders though, how he's going to find him when he's unmarked. There's a thousand ways to find a Soulmate, he knows, but Damian has nothing physical to guide him.
Tucker Foley has always worried that Amity Park will be too much for his Soulmate, whoever they are. Soulmates are supposed to match each other, to walk with each other, but there's not many places that are as wild as Amity Park. The only mark he carries though, is the one that links him to Sam and Danny, so he's left to wonder how they might meet.
Damian turns sixteen and everything changes.
A really sweet Tucker/Damian soulmate au with wonderful lore and mechanics and just overall oozing with tender softness. 100% adore this one. Status: Complete
Bruised by DizzlyPuzzled
The Guys in White are preparing for war. The Justice League doesn't believe in Ghosts and wrote Amity Park off. And Danny just wants things to chill for a moment so he can enjoy his life. But now he is the only thing standing between complete reality collapse and peace.
Ghost King au + political drama + taking down the GIW and Vlad? Amazing, stunning, I’ve re-read this at least five times now. Status: Complete
Ouroboros by Rhapsody_in_Pink
In the end, it was Jack and Maddie that caused Phantom. It was Phantom that caused the downfall of Jack and Maddie. It was Jack and Maddie that destroyed Danny Fenton. It was Danny Fenton who accepted Phantom. And so Ouroboros swallowed himself.
An alternate take on how Danny acquired his powers and interacts with the ghosts around him as well as well as dimensional travel. I genuinely don’t have the words to describe how much I love this one, it’s just so good! Status: Incomplete
Your City Loves You (And Your Home Was Always Here) by bongo_balderdash
After a meeting between the Reigning Monarch of the Infinite Realms and the Justice League, King Phantom asks Superman to stay behind for a moment. Superman is a little hesitant, but they’ve just agreed to a peace treaty between the lands of the living and the dead, and apparently someone on the king’s council has something they’ve been waiting to say.
Not just a message for Superman. A message for Clark Kent.
This one was so sweet and it made me cry. Status: Complete
A Vigilante A Day Keeps the Government Away by DeathlySilent13
Lucius Fox gets a phone call he'd never expected from a source even more unexpected. Now, he's got to figure out what to do with a betrayed child, a traumatized nephew, a protective son, and an adoption-prone Bat.
Very interesting choice in using Lucius as the main POV, and it provides a fresh look at the beginnings of coordinating a take down of the GIW. This is only the first part of the series, and while it is Complete, there is still more to come!
What’s a Spleen Between Friends? by Cielle_Noire
Tim gets Isekai'd a few times, which is really inconvenient. The guy (meta? ghost? half-ghost?) who keeps helping him is cute though, so it's okay. Well, it's not okay, but it could be worse. Probably.
OR
Five Times Tim Fell Through a Portal and One Time He Didn't
A very witty 5+1 Tim/Danny fic. Great lore, great plot, great jokes. 10/10. Status: Incomplete
YOU MAY REGRET DOING THAT
Jazz Fenton has done many things she regrets in her life and unfortunately she just added another to her list as she stares at the four members of the Justice League at her door. She had just gotten home from dealing with the consequences of her actions when her door bell rang and low and behold the Superman, Flash, Green latern (The first one she thinks) and Black Canary are standing at her door looking pissed and ready to fight
Okay so maybe she really shouldn’t have exposed the fact that her parents hunted ghosts to her friend but how was she to know that it would blow up after someone overheard her explaining everything and unfortunately that included the Ghost Zone and Danny being the Ghost King but to fair most or nearly all of amity park already knew (it was kinda hard not to when for weeks ghost kept challenging Phantom for the Ghost King title, it wasn’t hard to figure it out) so she thought it would be okay.
It wasn’t okay. AT ALL
Because as soon as it blew up that her parents tried to erase an entire species that were way more powerful than humans and to even continuously target the king of that realm even as he protected them from Ghosts (even if amity park knew most ghosts just wanted something to cure their boredom) her family became under fire
Her parents were first of course. They had all of there P.H.D’s taken away and were thrown in prison for reasons she wasn’t bothered to remember but than someone had released a video of her firing at Phantom (out of context of course, he was trying to improve her aim. It wouldn’t have even hurt him, they were just small stuns which at most would leave him with a bruise) and she was next (she had already tried multiple times to prove that she never hunted Phantom but people never believed her. They said she was just making excuses)
It started as People on the streets yelling at her about how ‘inhuman she could be’ and how ‘she was just like her parents’ which was fine she just ignored it and continued to study (she had a dream after all) and than she was kicked out of her college and her life started to fall apart. Her landlord had already given her a notice that she would have to find a new place at the end of the year as she would not be renewing the lease and every place she applied to were quick to decline her with snide comments
It had gotten even worse when just before she had seen the Justice League (almost every member. Wow was there a lot) say that they were trying to get into contact with the Ghost King to apologise and ask for an alliance (they had quickly gotten rid of the ecto-laws when they found them and most of the GIW were thrown in jail thankfully, the only good thing out of this whole thing) but they couldn’t get in contact with him. Apparently they were doing a gesture of good will to show and she had felt dread when almost five minutes after she heard her door bell ring which leaves her here staring at the four members of the justice league and only now she saw the handcuffs hanging from each of there hands
Fuckkkk
Now she normally didn’t swear but this was a situation where it was granted okay?
One of them (Green lantern maybe) raised his arm towards her and she felt a giant pressure around and against her body, she looked down to see a giant green hand holding her tight, a little too tight if the pain in her chest was anything to go by.
“Jasmine Fenton you are under-arrest as of now for conspiracy to eradicate another species as well as aiding and abetting the murder and torture of countless Ghosts” The girl said (It must have been Black Canary) her voice was firm but she could hear the anger behind her words. She was horrified, with those charges there was no doubt that she would get life in prison. Her parents had plead insanity as Vlad had told them to but there was now way she could or even try that approach, oh fuck would she get the death penalty?
Jasmine felt like her world was crashing down around her “No you don’t understand! I didn’t do any of that. That video was taken out of context please you have to believe me! I didn’t do anything I swear! I was helping Phantom! Please!” She started to cry out before she felt the hand around her tighten and she ended up screaming.
“That’s funny, that’s exactly what your parents said. They were trying to help Phantom. Let me guess, was he a abomination that needed to be destroyed at all costs or was it he was just a ecto-entity that was caused by the imprint of human emotions and destroying him was helping him move on and that he didn’t feel any emotions or pain at all?” She heard Flash snidely comment and noises of agreement from the other three
“There’s no use trying to create excuses now when your caught. You should have thought about that before deciding to try and kill and entire race of people” Superman spoke up from where he was floating above the ground “Now let’s get back we still need to track down her brother”
She froze, Brother? DANNY? THEY WERE AFTER DANNY?! Oh god why do the bad things always happen to them. She just hopes that Danny stays in the Ghost Zone so he doesn’t get caught, he wouldn’t even know what was happening, the hero’s had destroyed the portal in the basement so he was trapped until he found a natural portal or used Vlad’s but they were in a fight right now so she doubts he would risk willingly to run into Vlad.
Superman must have heard her heart rate spike because he turned to her and the question that she had been dreading since the few seconds she had to freak out “Do you know where your brother is? I will have you know there is no use lying because we will know and it won’t add any brownie points to be hiding a active fugitive”
Jazz mutely shook her head, she knew they could tell she was lying by the head shake of disappointment from Superman and the yank toward by Green Lantern
“Have it your way than, we can add the charge of hiding a wanted fugitive and withholding important information about a case” Flash sarcastically spoke from besides her
“Let’s just hurry and get her into a cell please” Black Canary called out already starting to walk out of her hallway toward a open window where they must have entered due to the size of it “I would love to put my efforts into finding the last Fenton to put behind bars, that would be great” and off they went, her stuck in a huge green ball flying towards what she assumed to be their base.
Corpse au case fic where the trio decided to try cracking a murder mystery, except instead of angst it's a comedy of errors where they make everything worse.
Like. Danny comes out of a portal dead and translucent and glowing, and there's charred remains of a human body on the floor. So now all three of them are freaking out, and instead of asking for help, or finding an adult, or telling literally ANYONE, they decide to just. Get rid of the body. As one does.
So that's what they do: they break out Tucker's nice shovels (because god forbid Sam's family owned something as pheasant as a shovel, and Danny's too afraid of touching their family's Patented Fenton ShovelsTM for... reasons), they find a nice desolate clearing in the woods, and then they bury Danny's body like one would a very unfortunate hamster who met their demise too soon under very suspicious circumstances. They even stay at the new "grave" in silence for a minute or five in respect and DEFINITELY nothing else, you know. And so, they bury the body, and then they (try to) forget the experience as some horrific nightmare.
And then, a year later, there's an uproar: the Amity Park's police department found the child's remains in the woods! And you see, Amity Park is not THAT big of a town, and the police estimated that the body belonged to a 14-15 year old child, and, look, there's only so many schools in a small town, alright. Obviously, the rumours start very soon in Casper High: about how the kid could've gone to their school, about how they could've died, about whether or not anybody was missing them, about their identity, and some definitely-truthworthy-would-I-lie-to-you-bro-come-on sources insist that the kid was murdered around a year ago, around the time ghosts started showing up. And these rumours obviously reach the ears of Sam, Danny and Tucker.
Now, you would've thought that their first thought would be something like "oh no, they found Danny's body", or "oh no, they know", or even simply "we're sooo fucked". Except. You see, the night they buried the body? It was really cloudy. And dark. And, y'know, it's very easy to get lost in a forest. And they were too high-strung, you see, they completely forgot to leave some sort of a marker or anything. And also like, it was so long ago, you know? A lot have happened, they were sooo busy and the likes, you can't really blame them for forgetting some things.
And here's lies the problem: all three of them just fucking forgot that there was a body left to bury at all.
And then it gets out that the police can't even conduct any sort of DNA test because it became corrupted to the point of being absolutely unrecognisable due to exposure to a large amount of ecto-energy.
It's now looks like a bad set up for a joke: an identifiable body of a child, cause of death unknown; the probable involvement of ghosts or at the very least a very large quantity of ecto-energy; a probable murderer on the loose, which naturally breeds suspicion and speculation; a town full of all kinds of rumours; and a trio of absolute dumbasses, who after hearing that ghosts were involved immediately went to stick their noses where they don't belong.
Rejoice, Amity Park! Sam, Danny and Tucker are now on the case! Except they are all teenagers, and nobody in their right mind will allow teenagers to solve a murder case. Plus, them poking around would be highly suspicious, but Phantom, on the other hand?
(people seeing Phantom helping solve this case and coming to the conclusion that the ghosts were definitely involved was not on their bingo card, but oh well)
They don't go to the cops, obviously: Danny at least in part because he's worried they will call GIW on his ass or try to arrest him, and Sam and Tucker simply because fuck the cops (one because the police is involved in a militaristic, capitalistic corrupted system that breeds injustice and furthers the divide between average people and the wealthy, and the other because cops suck and will probably call GIW on his friend's ass). They also can't go to any other authorities: cops are out of the question, as is the mayor; laboratory personnel will most likely just throw them out; and there're no witnesses or known relatives, so they're stuck.
Therefore they decide that desperate times need desperate measures, and so they enlist all of their ghost allies on a quest, hoping to find the ghost of the kid. Considering the amount of ecto-energy they were subjected to, they MUST have formed a ghost, they only need to find them.
Except. The Ghost Zone is a big place, and they only have so many allies, even if some of them are a queen and a god. So Danny bites the bullet and does the most stupid (debatable) thing he has ever done: he goes to his enemies for help. They're surprisingly understanding and willing to help, even if some of their reasons are a little... strange (Skulker and Johnny entered some sort of competition on who finds the ghost first, Box Ghost starts to seek out coffins (??) and Youngblood is not above to start torturing people to finally have a friend that is not either an adult or a complete stick in the mud). And even then they still can't find the ghost.
In the end Danny goes to Clockwork in a desperate hope that he will be able to glimpse at least a little of what had transpired on the night of the murder, and to Danny's annoyance Clockwork laughs so hard he almost pops a ghost equivalent of a blood vessel.
A few weeks down the line Sam hesitantly brings up Danny's buried corpse ("MY WHAT" "Your corpse which we buried in the woods, Danny, don't you remember?" "Yeah, bro, I think you dissociated the whole time we were digging the hole and carrying your dead body" "WE DID WHAT-"), reasonably saying that, you know, they ALSO technically buried a body in the woods. On that Tucker just shrugs because obviously it was not Danny's body, the place of the burial was way off, he remembers that there was a really big stone to the left of the grave (he doesn't and there wasn't), so they are in the clear. During that exchange Danny's sitting on the floor and having a panic attack, because he really did dissociate the whole time and afterwards legitimately forgot that there was a body to bury at all.
After that conversation all three of them leave with a certainty that Danny's body is still there where they left it, whenever it was. And so the shenanigans continue.
Everything Was White: Part 18
[see all chapters]
read on: [ao3] [ffn]
Summary: After being accidentally revealed to the public and taken away by the government, Danny deals with the aftermath of his time with the GiW.
---
There was a video in the morning. A hidden paparazzi camera, he found out. The video was sold to TMZ and subsequently reuploaded to every social media site within the hour.
“Danny Fenton can walk?!” was the caption of the one Danny was currently watching on TikTok. It was a video of him approaching the stairs, and—ugh—struggling to climb them. He could see Tucker’s (fake) smile and Sam’s concerned oversight. His legs wobbled as they ascended each step, his gate abnormal.
And as internet culture dictated, the comments were sure to point everything out.
ok but why do his legs look like that 💀💀💀
>don’t be gross, he’s clearly got some medical issues
My cousin is paraplegic and Danny walks similar to him.
Y’all are freaking out like there aren’t videos of him already in physical therapy 🤦
Wtf happened to him?
I know this isn’t supposed to be funny but it kind of is
>stfu he’s a minor
>>So? He’s a celebrity, he can take it
These comments are horrible. This kid clearly got abused during his imprisonment and has suffered lasting damage, and there are people here who think it’s funny because he walks differently now? That’s disgusting, and as a disabled person myself, it’s horrible to see so many comments and likes making fun of him. Surprise, disabilities affecting motor function make people look different when they perform said motor functions. Grow up.
Danny pinched the bridge of his nose. This was exactly what he was afraid of. It was the entire reason why he had been avoiding walking in public.
He hadn’t even seen anyone around them. Had someone followed the van all the way to Tucker's house? Did this mean that Tucker and his family were going to get stalked too?
Ugh, ugh! This was horrible. And now he had to go to school where everyone would have seen that video too?
Fuck.
He peeked out his window, and beyond the recently installed tall fence lining the property, Danny could see a circle of paparazzi and media vans parked along the sidewalk.
This was insanity. It wasn’t like this was the first video of him walking in general; there were videos and pictures of him at PT. Sure, he was being supported by the other physical therapists and equipment, but he was still walking. It just happened that this was the first video taken of him in public, which Danny guessed was enough for the algorithms to grab hold of.
His family was so lucky the neighbors seemed understanding of the media circus that was now their life. Although, Jazz had mentioned bringing cookies over to a few of them before…
“It’ll die down,” Danny reminded himself. “Once they get bored, they’ll move on.”
But even that sounded like a lie the more he said it. Because unless another half-ghost stepped into the public eye, it didn’t seem like there would be anyone to take the spotlight off of him anytime soon.
He checked Twitter and…yep, he was the top trending topic on there too.
Fucking hell, did no one have anything better to do?
His inbox was flooded, and his notifications were worse. Danny was glad he had turned off all social media alerts on his phone ages ago. His phone would have probably caught on fire with the rate he was being tagged in tweets.
He closed his eyes and exhaled, breathing just like his therapist had taught him. In, two, three…out, two three.
Okay, so what if everyone knew what he looked like when he walked now? It wasn’t like he could keep this hidden forever. If anything, his physical therapists were probably just relieved he’d finally ripped the band-aid off because now he had no excuse to continue avoiding walking in public.
And was that really a bad thing? More practice meant strengthening his muscles, which meant that he would be closer and closer to ditching the walker for crutches.
He absentmindedly scrolled through his notifications, until one blue-checkmarked name caught his eye:
Izaak Adams @izaakadamsCongrats to @dannyphantom for kicking ass in PT! It’s amazing to see the progress you’ve made since I saw you last. Soon, you’ll be outpacing me! Keep working hard 💪
Danny frowned at the screen. Had that guy met him? As far as Danny remembered, he hadn’t met any celebrities since his release. Was this guy lying for clout or something?
Danny clicked on his profile and read his bio. “Paralympic Gold Medalist and Video Game Enthusiast”
Paralympic gold medalist? Why did that ring a bell?
Danny racked his memories for anything, but he drew a blank. Did he know this guy? Or maybe he was reading too much into this tweet?
A knuckle rapped on his door. “Danny?” came Jazz’s muffled voice. “You awake?”
Danny looked up. “Hey, Jazz? Do I know a guy named Izaak Adams?”
Jazz opened the door to reveal her baggy sweats and messy bun. “Huh?”
“Izaak Adams, a paralympic athlete?” Danny held up his phone. “He tweeted at me almost like we’ve met?”
Jazz’s confused frown was replaced by a look of surprise. “Yeah, I remember, you have met him!”
“Really? When?”
“At the hospital one time, he came to visit? When you were first learning to use your wheelchair.”
Fragments of that memory hit him, and on instinct, Danny cringed. Oh yeah, how could he have forgotten what an underweight, stuttering, dazed mess he’d been? Ugh, how embarrassing.
Jazz stifled a giggle. “Oh come on, it was cute! He was so supportive and patient.”
“Yeah, but—”
Jazz shot him a doting glare. “Danny, anyone looking at you could see that you were in intense recovery. I’m sure he wasn’t expecting the Phantom when he went to meet you. Cut yourself a bit of slack.”
Danny looked back down at his phone. “Yeah. You’re right.”
He contemplated what to do for a few seconds before an impulsive, teenage fuck it crossed his brain. He shrugged, opened the tweet, and hit reply.
Danny Phantom @dannyphantom Replying to @izaakadamsThank you for the support! Better watch out, I’m coming for your title as the gold medalist in Hospital Hallway Racing.
There. That was equal parts easygoing and funny enough to show the press and public alike that no, he wasn’t self-conscious about the way he looked, fuck off.
Jazz glanced down at her phone and snorted.
“Good response?” Danny guessed.
“Perfect. Now get ready for school!”
---
As expected, the police were escorting the paparazzi off the property when he arrived at Casper High that morning.
It wasn’t like Danny was able to use his walker at school anyway.
Still, the murmurs from classmates followed him into the building, and the sideways glances to outright stares trailed behind him in the halls.
Fantastic. Just when he thought his classmates might be getting used to him, the world had to backtrack. Part of him wanted to turn around and snark, “Fascinating news, guys, the elusive creature known as the halfa learned to walk! What an amazing step in evolution this was!” But he bit his tongue. His wit wasn’t worth whatever backlash the internet would make of it.
Danny rounded the corner and spotted Sam and Tucker hanging around their lockers. Their fight and the weight of Sam’s unresponded text were still fresh in his mind, but he took a deep breath and pressed forward.
“Hey, guys,” Danny said awkwardly.
They turned around, apprehension etched on their faces.
“Hey, Danny. What’s up?” Tucker asked.
If Sam looked desperate to say something, Danny wasn’t going to entertain her. “Nothing. My morning’s been uneventful as usual.”
Tucker fidgeted with his cap, looking sheepish. “I honestly didn’t see anyone around yesterday. They must have been hiding behind the bushes or something.”
“It’s fine, Tuck,” Danny said. “It’s not like this wasn’t going to happen soon anyway. And besides, the—the embarrassing part is done now.”
“It’s not embarrassing, Danny,” Sam rebuked. “It’s admirable if anything. The comments I’ve seen have been very supportive.”
“Sure, some of them.”
“Most of them.”
“Sam, I appreciate the pep talk, but it’s fine. Really.” When Sam’s adamant expression refused to let up, Danny reiterated, “It’s fine. There are other—other videos of me walking online. This is just the one every–everyone saw. I don’t care.”
“Good.” Tucker closed his locker door. “In an incredibly important change of topic, we never saw the new Dead Teacher movie!”
“You guys didn’t watch it?” Danny asked.
Tucker gave Danny an incredulous look. “Without you?”
“I don’t know, I figured me being out of commission was enough of an excuse.”
“Did you not read my texts? I said we weren’t gonna watch it without you. Really, Danny, do you think so low of me?”
Danny tapped into his bullshit meter, trying to gauge if Tucker was lying—it wouldn’t be the first time—but for once, nothing pinged his radar.
“We should just marathon the whole series now that they’re all on Netflix,” Sam said. “You guys can come over next weekend and we can play them in my home theater.”
“You, Sam, have a truly wonderful brain,” Tucker said.
“Yeah, yeah. I’ll believe it when you can say that while eating a salad.”
“Don’t push it, woman.”
“That’s what I thought.” Sam rolled her eyes and turned to Danny. “You up for it?”
Danny hesitated, his hold on his wheelchair tightening. “I thought I wasn’t allowed at your house?”
“Yeah, but you’re a—oh…right. I forgot.” Sam slapped her hand to her forehead and groaned. “Damn, I forgot you don’t have your powers still. Shit, sorry, guys.”
“I don’t have a fancy home system or anything, but you guys can come over to my place,” Tucker offered.
“Thanks, Tuck,” Sam said.
Out of the corner of his eye, Danny saw Principal Ishiyama stare at him for a moment too long before scurrying down the hall.
Weird.
He tried to shake the uncomfortable squirming in his gut. “Yeah, Tuck, sounds good.”
“And this time…” Tucker leaned down cheekily. “Maybe you can try to not kill yourself getting to my bedroom.”
Sam and Danny both reacted immediately, shouting a chorus of “Tucker!” and “Dude!” They briefly made eye contact before Tucker’s evil cackling snapped Danny back to focus.
“That’s a cheap shot! No fair!” Danny moaned. “You can’t—this—this is bullying.”
If anything, Tucker grinned wider. “Fine, then next time I won’t save your sorry ass from a life of embarrassment the next time you try to launch yourself to the top step because you’re too lazy to climb up the stairs.”
“You have a lot of stairs!”
“My house has a perfectly reasonable amount of stairs.”
“No, I call foul,” Danny protested. “You’re literally picking on the disabled kid. Unreal.”
Tucker patted Danny’s shoulder. “Sure, okay, ghost boy.”
“That was a very dangerous move, though, Danny,” Sam said. “You could have fallen.”
“Eh, cut him some slack. Walkers are really annoying.”
“Don’t encourage this, Tucker!”
“I got your back, Danny.”
But Danny wasn’t paying attention to them anymore. Something else had caught his attention. A deep laugh, one so familiar it had sent a shockwave of ice shooting through his veins. If it weren’t for the chip, he was sure he’d be covered in ecto-frost.
He stared across the hallway, his breath frozen in his throat. Time slowed around him, and the conversational voices of Sam and Tucker melted away into the background.
No...it couldn’t be…
He must have been hallucinating. His mind was playing tricks on him. There was just no way that he was actually here in the hallway of Casper High.
No way it was true.
But it was.
There, in full view of the entire student body, was Operative O himself. His white suit gleamed against the dull cream and red of the high school. He stood against a row of lockers with his chest out, sunglasses covering his eyes, and a smirk splayed on his lips as he conversed with Principal Ishiyama.
No.
No.
Danny needed to run away. Flee. Get out of sight.
But he couldn’t. It was as if his wheelchair was cemented to the ground. He was trapped, staring at the man who had made it his life’s work to ruin Danny’s.
It wasn’t real. It couldn’t be real.
Operative O’s head turned until it locked onto Danny. His smirk widened and his sunglasses positively glistened. He brought a hand up above his shoulders and waggled his fingers at Danny.
Fear was replaced by hot anger. That bastard was waving as if he and Danny were longtime friends.
“Hey, Danny?” Tucker poked his shoulder. “Isn’t that…?”
The unsaid question hung in the air like a dark cloud.
Sam’s expression hardened. “What are they doing here?”
But Danny was seething. His stomach churned in fury, and the corners of his vision tinged green. Adrenaline spiked in his veins, and he could feel his core screaming against its restraints.
Before he could so much as think, Danny was whizzing down the hall. When he got close enough, he abandoned his wheelchair altogether, pushing himself up and gripping onto the lockers for support for the final few steps. Ishiyama gave him a warning look, along with a subtle shake of her head, but Danny wasn’t listening to her.
If it weren’t for this fucking chip, he probably would have transformed into Phantom right in the middle of the damn hall.
“What the hell are you doing?” Danny hissed. Despite his fury, his palms were clammy against the metal lockers.
“Why if it isn’t Danny Phantom. What a coincidence it is to see you here.”
Operative O’s slimy voice pierced him at once, and Danny nearly crumpled to the ground. Memories came rushing back, transporting him far away to a dark, musty place where the air smelled putrid and his skin was wet and sticky. Where he never knew what time it was, where his stomach felt sick with hunger, where he begged for anyone to find him, rescue him.
“I’m doing a routine inspection. Your school installed ecto-shields, and it’s my job to make sure they’re working properly. Nothing that concerns you,” Operative O purred, leaning in to pull what appeared like a dog tag on a silver chain from his pocket. “And might I congratulate you on how wonderful it is to see you walking again. If we were back at the research center, I would even give you a little treat.”
Danny’s blood ran cold, and he stopped breathing.
Operative O chuckled, standing back up and slipping the chain out of sight. “Now if you don’t mind, Ishiyama, I’d like to see those shields you mentioned…”
Danny’s ears rang, that laugh echoing over and over like a broken vinyl. He looked up, but Mr. Lancer had inserted himself in front of Danny, blocking O from view. The world tilted, and Danny gave up. He rested his head on the locker just in time for Sam and Tucker to catch up with him, their voices muddying into the background. The world was spinning, the entire hallway was probably watching, and Danny was just trying not to throw up.
A heavy hand fell on his back, and Danny barely caught the low murmur in his ear. “...my office?”
Danny nodded, not sure what he was agreeing to, but just knowing he had about five seconds to get out of the hallway before he was going to faint on the floor.
Thankfully, the hands were strong, and they held him upright as they guided him forward. Sam grabbed his arm, steadying him as well. Mr. Lancer said something, and Danny recognized Sam’s protesting tone in her response, but Lancer’s voice was sharper.
Sam huffed and squeezed his arm, and then his friends were gone just in time for what sounded like helicopters to womp in his ears and the spinning to reach a climax. He was pushed through the door and immediately felt his hand hit something behind him.
Danny collapsed onto his wheelchair and gasped, taking his first breath of air in too long. But his throat tightened again and he panicked, trying to breathe through the coffee straw that was his lungs.
A hand once again landed on his back, and a voice spoke soothingly into his ear.
“It’s okay, it’s okay,” Mr. Lancer said.
Danny shook his head and clawed at his shirt. Was his shirt choking him? Had the Operatives drugged him again? Is that why the world was spinning, why his arms were shaking so violently?
“It’s okay. Breathe, you’re okay.”
Danny clutched at his core, demanding whatever flickering bit of invisibility he could muster at whatever limbs were the closest. He couldn’t cloak his entire body in it, but the small whispers of his core powers were just enough to not send him into a complete meltdown.
“Why?” Danny finally gasped out. “Why?”
Mr. Lancer didn’t answer. Danny didn’t know if this was because he didn’t actually know the answer or if he just felt like Danny shouldn’t hear it.
Danny’s throat squeezed tighter. He glanced down at his bag and could feel the weight of the emergency pills. He was desperate for one. But he couldn’t, not in Lancer’s office.
Mr. Lancer pulled his chair beside Danny and sat down. He kept his voice low, whispering “it’s alright, it’s okay” as he waited for Danny to get himself under control.
But as soon as the dizziness ceased and the world righted again, Danny’s ragged breaths melted into sobs.
He bent forward, hiding his face in his hands. He could taste the ghost of the red bag on his tongue, and he could feel the plastic tube being shoved down his throat, cutting off his oxygen supply as it reached for his stomach. He felt the pain in his back, his chest, the phantom nerves in his legs firing off any way they could.
He felt Operative O thread his fingers down his torso, exploring the blank canvas prime to decorate with green.
“I didn’t want it,” Danny choked out. “I…”
His stomach turned, and he clamped his hands over his mouth, gagging.
Mr. Lancer was quick to react, shoving a waste bin under Danny’s chin just in time for Danny to empty the contents of his breakfast into it.
Mr. Lancer’s hand was on his back, rubbing circles as Danny’s head lurched forward once again. He coughed, spitting bile and stomach acid into the bin. The warmth in his body had never felt so uncomfortable before, so dizzying.
Danny shook his head, mumbling, “I didn’t want it.”
“I know,” Mr. Lancer responded quietly.
“I didn’t—I just—I just wanted the granola bars. It wasn’t my—” Danny choked on his voice. He shook his head, trying to force out the memories that flickered past the back of his eyes.
He just needed to reach his hand out and grab the granola bar. That’s all he needed to do. So why couldn’t he do it? Why did his mistake cost him the last shred of the dignity he was still clutching onto?
A fresh wave of tears fell from Danny’s eyes. “I—I’m not…” I’m not a dog, he wanted to scream, but he couldn’t.
Because he would be lying if he said he truly believed it.
“I’m sorry,” he said instead. Because he was sorry, truly, for continuing to be a burden on Mr. Lancer, a teacher Danny had spent the past two years disappointing over and over, a teacher who’d been forced to babysit him in detention dozens of times, a teacher who had now twice had to deal with him being an emotional fuckup.
“You have nothing to apologize for.”
But that was a big fat fucking lie if Danny had ever heard one. And he should know, he was the master of lying.
---
His parents didn’t try to make him talk when they picked him up from school that day.
Danny was too busy staring out the window unseeing to talk anyway.
He didn’t remember getting inside. Couldn’t remember transferring out of the car or going into his house.
Maybe he should’ve been thankful that the wheelchair was autonomous now. Or whatever his doctor would tell him.
He blinked, and he was on the couch with a throw blanket over his body. Jazz was next to him, staring at the television as some reality show played. Danny’s gaze followed hers, and he didn’t miss the way her eyes noticed his movement. But he didn’t acknowledge her. Instead, he much preferred to watch…
What was he doing?
There was this stillness over his body, in his mind. It was…quiet. Light.
It was nice.
He recognized this feeling. This lightness in his limbs, the calm in his body. The lack of pain, lack of burning from his nerves and muscles.
It was just. Relaxation. Pure tranquility.
He remembered then, the emergency pill he managed to sneak while Lancer and his parents slipped into another room to talk. And then a different pill his parents handed him moments later.
One that he’d taken while he was shaking, his body in shock, desperate for an ounce of relief.
When the world stopped, it was euphoric. The fog returned, blanketing his mind and shielding him from the realities just outside the door. He relaxed, accepting the fog like a long-lost brother. It stayed with him for hours, and he cherished every second of their time together, but now it was bidding adieu.
But this time, the loss didn’t seem so bad. There was no pain, no stress. It was only the calm with no storm to follow.
He closed his eyes and sank into the couch. He was tired, and the cushions and blankets felt so nice. He wasn’t in the cell—not even close—he was home with his sister. Safe, protected.
“Thanks, Jazz,” he murmured.
She didn’t respond, but he knew she heard him.
“What show’s on?”
“Survivor,” she said. “A rerun. Not sure which season.”
“Oh. Okay.”
The television droned on, and Danny heard the contestants bickering about…something or other.
Heh. That sucked for them.
“M’sorry.” Danny yawned. “Sorry for…you know…I hope I didn’t ruin your day. You babysitting me.”
“It’s fine, Danny, It’s not your fault. They shouldn’t have been there.”
“I don’t know…it sounds like they could be there.”
He heard Jazz shift beside him, and his eyes peeked open to see her attention fully diverted from the show.
“Danny—”
“Where’s Mom and Dad?”
“They’re with the lawyer.”
“Okay.” Danny’s eyelids felt heavy, and wisps of his core tickled his chest. “I need the chip out.”
She was quiet again.
“You understand why,” Danny said.
“I do.”
“I need Mom and Dad to—to remove it. If they don’t…”
“I wish I could help,” she said quietly.
“Then convince them. They won’t listen to me, I’m a ghost. You heard them, remember? I’m…my Obsession is influencing my brain. And…” He looked at the ceiling. “And, well, maybe it is. But Operative—the Guys in White were still there today. And I…I think I’ve seen them before today too. I thought I was…but no, I think it was them.”
Tears glittered in Jazz’s eyes.
“You have to convince them for me.”
“I’ll try my best. We can talk to them tonight together.”
Danny shook his head. “It’ll never work if I’m there. They think I’m crazy.”
“They don’t think that.”
“They’re scared of me. Or, the half of me they don’t like.”
“No.” Jazz wiped her eyes with her sleeves. “No, that’s not true.”
“I’m not deaf, Jazz. I heard them. Remember?”
“They love you so much, Danny. I promise. They’re scared for you.”
“What’s there to be scared for?” Danny pressed his finger into his thighs, feeling only the strange sensation of pressure in return. “It’s not like…I don’t know, it’s not like I’m banned from—banned from existing. That’s what the court case was all about, right?”
“Right.”
“And I’ve been in therapy for months. I go there every day. They know I’m not going to—to hurt myself.”
Jazz pressed her lips into a thin line. “I know.”
“So why don’t they?”
“This summer was…” She sighed. “This summer was hard, Danny. We’d all do it all over again if it meant getting you under legal protection, but the period you were gone? That was—it—” Her voice broke. “Not knowing if you were alive or dead, not hearing a word about you for weeks? That was terrifying. The last thing we remembered was you being carted off by the Guys in White and SWAT teams, knocked out, electrocuted, and then you were gone. Just like that. And when you were finally brought back to us…”
His eyes felt too dry for once. His body was too calm to rewake that pain.
“I know—I know it was so much worse for you. I know our experiences outside don’t even begin to compare to yours. I understand, and they do too. But in the flash of an eye, their entire world changed. They’re coping.”
“Their coping is going to get me killed, though.”
“The government can’t touch you.”
Anxious Danny might have snapped at that. But Anxious Danny wasn’t here right now. He continued in the same bland tone as before, “You have no idea what the government is capable of.”
Jazz’s expression tightened.
“If their reasoning for not giving me back control over my core is—is just that this summer was hard for them, then that’s a shit excuse. And it’s going to get me killed. That’s really—really…that’s really it.”
“I know. I’m not making excuses, I’m just explaining what’s going through their heads.”
“Then you need to talk to them. Because at—at this point, I’ve said everything I can.”
Jazz mopped at her face again, nodding. “I know.”
Danny reached his hand out, gently lowering it to her arm. He felt her stiffen before her free hand shot down to clutch his.
She was trembling.
“I need you, Jazz. You’re…you’re my sister. I need you to be on my side right now.”
“I am. I’ll try. We can bring it up tonight as a united front. I’ll lead the conversation.”
He gave her arm a gentle squeeze before breaking off the contact. He sank back into the cushions, closing his eyes. “Thanks.”
Jazz sniffled beside him.
---
Dinner was a quiet affair that evening. The painkillers had worn off, and Danny was itching to escape upstairs to lie down.
But Maddie insisted that he eat, so he picked at his bowl of noodles, not bothering to hide the fact that he really didn’t feel like putting anything down his throat at the moment.
Thankfully, his parents didn’t seem to want to fight him tonight.
“So…” Danny started.
Maddie took the bait. “We met with the lawyer today.”
“Okay, and?”
At Maddie’s despondent look, Jack took over, placing his hand on hers. “The government can’t touch you legally. We want to make that very clear. No matter what, they can’t take you.”
“But…” Danny prompted.
“But as far as everything else goes, at this current moment, we can’t do anything about them showing up in the same buildings as you.”
Danny wanted to laugh. Or cry.
Or both.
“We tried to file a no-contact or a restraining order,” Maddie said. “But due to the current laws, we can’t get anything. If the agents physically hurt you, then we might have a case. But unfortunately, as of right now, our hands are tied.”
“Nothing can be done,” Danny muttered numbly.
“I’m sorry, son,” Jack said. “We’re going to continue to see what other paths we can take. We won’t give up, I promise.”
Danny had always known that the Guys in White weren’t finished with him, that they were on a mission to cleanse the world of all things ecto. He knew that no matter where he went, they would follow.
But it still hurt to hear.
“So that’s it,” Danny said. “I just have to wait till they hurt me in front of everyone.”
“We’ll never let it get to that point,” Maddie said.
Danny shook his head, his eyes staring blankly at the table. “Okay.”
Because what could he say to that? He couldn’t just pretend like this was fine, like he was fine with this. Because that would have been so insane of a lie that not even his dad would have bought it.
Jazz’s eyes flickered between them. “There’s also the other thing we talked about before dinner, Mom.”
“I know.” Maddie looked to Jack for support. He gave a solemn nod, and she pressed forward, despite looking like she’d rather do anything else. “We know that your…halfa psychology makes situations like these difficult for you emotionally.”
Danny’s mood darkened instinctively. Any mention of his ghostly Obsession with his parents had a tendency to turn sour.
“I know that things haven’t exactly gone the way you’ve wanted them to. And I hope you understand that everything we’ve done has been for you and your safety.”
Yeah, because I’m so ‘safe’ that I can’t even defend myself, Danny internally quipped.
“We know that…protection…is something that’s important to you. And Mr. Lancer said that you, um, struggled after the confrontation,” Maddie said.
“I had a breakdown,” Danny stated, his dead tone surprising himself.
“Right,” Maddie said awkwardly.
“Jazz mentioned that the situation has gone directly against your core,” Jack said. “And we’re worried about that too.”
There was one way they could fix this, but Danny wasn’t going to be the one to say it. They knew what he was thinking.
Maddie sighed. “We were wondering if there was anything that you wanted to talk to us about. About this, your core, any of it.”
Danny didn’t let a single muscle twitch in his face. No way did they deserve a clue—not after they were the reason that Danny was completely defenseless against the Guys in White today.
They sat at the kitchen table listening to the hum of the fridge. The grandfather clock that Jack had built ticked on, each click seeming louder than the last.
And finally, Danny shrugged.
“Well,” Jazz said. “I think Danny has done a really good job at upholding his end of the bargain. And now we’re at a point where continuing in this trajectory is going to actively hurt his progress in therapy.”
“And we agree to a certain extent. But honey…”
“But nothing, Mom. We’ve talked about this: Danny is as much of a human as he is a ghost. It’s not fair to him or his psychology that he’s spent months without access to his core. And with the government making bolder moves such as this, it’s important to Danny—and me too—that he is secure.”
Danny didn’t like being talked about as if he were a test subject, but if this was what it took to get his core back, then so be it.
“The government is not going to touch him. Not unless they want to be sued to hell and back for violating court orders,” Maddie said.
Oh, he could scream.
“I’m not talking about that; I’m talking about how this affects Danny’s mental health. The whole point of the chip was to give him the safety he needed to heal, but the issue is that now the chip is actively interfering with the entire reason it was created.”
“But to go from zero to full powers right now…” Maddie drifted off.
Jack nodded. “I agree, it’s too much.”
“Well, you guys are the scientists. Figure out a way to adjust the power level on the chip, then.”
Danny’s eyes narrowed, snapping to Jazz. Just what in the world was she saying?
Jack pondered her proposition. “That’s not a bad idea, actually.”
“I know.” Jazz leaned back and folded her arms in that annoying fashion she did when she thought she’d won.
“Hun, I don’t even think that’s possible. To access those mechanics on the chip, we’d need to extract it from Danny,” Maddie said.
“Maybe!” Jack snapped his fingers. “This chip might not be flexible, but I bet we could build one that was! And we’d be able to remotely configure it!”
Immediately, Danny felt sick.
Apparently, Maddie didn’t, judging by the way her eyes lit up. “And then we could even program it to slowly fade its power levels! Oh, Jack, that’s brilliant.”
“Aren’t you glad you have such a genius for a husband?”
“I am!”
“Don’t worry, son, we’ll get you fixed up in no time!” Jack gave him a thumbs up.
Danny was careful to not let the mask slip from his face and betray how truly revolted he was by this plan.
A chip that let his parents remotely set how much control over his core he had? He couldn’t think of anything more dystopian.
Perhaps noticing his silence, Maddie prompted, “Honey?”
“I don’t know what you want me to say,” Danny admitted.
“You can say anything on your mind, dear. This is…we’re a team.”
Even as she said those words that had been repeated so many times before, her voice sounded unconfident.
Danny could have laughed at the irony.
“You already know what I’m going to say.” Danny’s eyes traveled up from the table until they pierced hers. “There’s nothing else.”
“Yes, and you understand why we can’t just give you free rein of your ghost powers, right?” she asked.
No.
“Yes.”
“And you know that—that you’re still safe, right? You’re still protected in the meantime?” Maddie asked.
He wasn’t safe.
“Yes, I know.”
“The law is final, son,” Jack said gently. “They can intimidate you all they want, but they will never be able to touch you at all.”
“Sure.”
“And pretty soon, you’ll start to have your powers back. Okay?” Maddie said.
Danny looked away. “I was just scared. That was all.”
---
Danny glared at the name on his screen. Never in his wildest dreams could he ever have imagined he would be willingly seeking this scum of the Earth out, but he had no other choice.
He was down to his last few pills, and with the escalating boldness of the Guys in White, there was no way he was going to make it out of this intact.
Grumbling for the tenth time, he pressed the call button and brought the phone to his ear.
Later on, he would be disgusted at how quickly Vlad picked up the phone. “Daniel!” he said, his voice too cheerful. “What a lovely surprise!”
“Yeah, lovely.” Danny’s tone was anything but.
“To what do I owe this pleasure? Does your mother miss me?”
Danny closed his eyes, remembering Vlad’s warning about his calls being tapped.
“Gross, no, shut up about my mom. I’m…I need help. With a school project.”
He could feel Vlad’s grin on the other end of the line. “A school project, you say? That seems a bit bland of a request.”
“In—in science. I had an idea, but I need resources. And you’re…rich.”
“Science? My, that is interesting! If you don’t mind me asking, Little Badger, why not just ask your parents for assistance?”
Cocky bastard.
“I feel bad. They’ve—they’ve done a lot for me, and…I know they’re busy. They were meeting with the lawyer today, and I just don’t want to—to bother them. With this. And I know you…from your college days, you have experience and your old gadgets still.”
“Surely your parents have some old gadgets in their shed you can toy with.”
“Most of those are fried. You know how my dad gets.” He knew that Vlad was just trying to pick at any loophole in their conversation, and he needed to play along, as much as he hated it. “I wan–wanted to show the school that I’m okay. You know? They have me in these—the Learning Center, and I wanted to prove I can handle real classes again. I need something to impress them. Especially after today, I just…I don’t want them to think I can’t—I can’t handle myself.”
There was a brief moment of silence on the other line before Vlad hummed. “I see. Well, you know I am a very busy man, Daniel.”
“Yes, but…”
“However, I suppose since you reached out, I would be delighted to help my favorite nephew with his assignment. Does tomorrow after school work for you? I can pick you up if so.”
Danny’s eyes widened. “Yeah. That’s fine, I don’t have PT. There—it’s just that I’m under…I get picked up by my mom.”
“I see. So would I have to contact the school to pick you up instead?”
“No, I don’t—I don’t think so. I think I can ask my mom.”
“Alright, well, hopefully dear Maddie and my old friend Jack won’t be too jealous that you’ve asked me to help you rather than them. Do tell your mother hello for me, alright?”
“Whatever,” Danny grumbled. Then, remembering the code, he slapped a fake smile on his lips and bared his teeth into the receiver, “Thank you, Vlad! I’ll see you tomorrow!”
“Ta!”
Listen. Could Dead and Loving It be a fraction of the length and maybe finished by now if I only focused on Danny and Jason?
Possibly
Would it be a better story?
Probably, from several perspectives
But it absolutely would not be the same story, and nor would it be the story I want to tell
Because I am hopelessly addicted to ensemble casts, and I don’t want the boys to exist in a vacuum. I want Jason to run off with his siblings and with Danny’s friends, and I want Danny to fuck with the bats
I want them to touch all the parts of each others lives that existed before they met, and will still continue to exist after even if things change forever between them
I want all the background characters to interact with each other, have their own inner worlds and their own motivations, and yeah, this absolutely means this is not an efficient telling of a slow burn romance
Because the story isn’t the slow burn romance
The story is these two people, and the world they live in, the story is the way Duke and Cass both see Jason differently than Dick and Tim ever could and that matters, and that none of them are wrong
The story is Danny finally telling people who will listen about the Anti-Ecto Acts, and all the fucked up things the GIW do, and being able to ask for help and have that be okay
The story is messy and complicated and will have so many rises and falls, so many pivotal moments that are drama and combat and so many that are just two people talking to each other and finally seeing eye to eye
The story is the way that Jason’s relationships with his family can finally mend, now that he has someone who can get him the help he’s needed
The story is the way that Danny can come to terms with the responsibilities of being a king, the constant question of agency and power and what he’s worth if he’s only Danny and not the Ghost King
The story is Clockwork fucking with the pair of them because he specifically thinks it’s funny (he’s right)
And yeah, there’s a slow burn romance in there. There’s also a coming of age tale, and a story about healing and reconciling and moving forward knowing you cannot change the past, but you can do better
Unless fucking Clockwork decides you can change the past because yeah then it’s fine to just go do that I guess
I was kinda considering breaking the story out into multiple chunks because holy fuck is 100k an intimidating chunk of words, but I’m not gonna
It’s all one story, and you will be my hapless victims as we get to fucking 300k or wherever this beast ends because we are not here for efficient story telling and motion of the plot
We’re here for the connections, the characters, the meaningless bullshit that would absolutely be cut in anything anyone ever wanted to sell, cuz I am not selling this
Imma write every fucking scene I wish I got from books, TV, movies, podcasts, actual plays, every fucking time I scream at the characters to just fucking talk to each other because messy is good too
Messy is okay
Stories don’t need to be marketable to be worth telling, and this one’s gonna be too long and intimidating for some people and that’s okay
But I fuckin’ rolled in from Critical Role which averages around 500 hours of content per campaign and a cast of 7 plus Matt’s NPCs
And I STILL want more goddamn character moments from all of them so I haven’t found a size yet that I can’t manage
I love reading focused stories that I can get through fast, and fuck, look at the rest of my AO3; I will fucking never diss a one shot, or a short story, or a piece that really focuses in on one or two characters
Delicious, I love them, my bread and butter
It’s just not what this mess is gonna be, and that’s okay too
Gods be fucking willing we will not have another six chapters that take place over the course of three hours, but we’ll just have to see how that shakes out cuz I’m being possessed by a seemingly infinite number of plot bunnies and my own tendency for “hey it’d be funny if”
And oh boy has it been funny every time
The Town Critter
So in my short time of dabbling in the dpxdc community I’ve seen a bunch of AU’s as one does, but there’s one that I’ve never seen so imma write it here. Now I don’t know if this has actually been done and if I’ve never noticed, so if it has feel free to tell me! Anyways onto the actual AU.
TW: ⚠️Body Horror and Talk about death and Centipedes⚠️
Danny gets cursed into being 3/5 of a bug. What bug you may ask? A centipede.
The premise of the story is that in a major fight with a ghostly magic user, Danny gets cursed to become a creature that instills fear and disgust to the general public. Since a lot of things generally don’t scare most of Amity Parkers, the spell was desperately grasping for something that would bring terror and fear into the hearts of the living around them. It just so happened that a woman walking down the street and caught sight of a centipede. Not a millipede that you would see every once in while that was much smaller and more bearable, but a giant centipede that with one bite could create a new rouge for Phantom. The one that fuels the nightmares of many. And so the spell latched on to the form ans fear a centipede takes and creates.
The ghostly mage deciding not to stick around and find out, gets the hell out of doge and disappears before Danny can soup them. Getting ready to chase the stupid ghost before his parents or the GIW get them, he is stopped when a searing pain starts in his body. Eyes widening in panic, Danny though fuck it to the chuck it bucket and scrammed like the ghostly wizard. He didn’t want to be caught by either of the mentioned people either, and flew up high and kept flying, even as the pain started to rival the ever so brief but lasting eternity of pains the portal left him with. The wind whipping past his face as his body slowly morphs until he ends up crashing into a field, and while his core fought the spell, it still took a strong hold on him. As he slowly blinks, the black spots wavering in and out, he could feel how his body grew, his skin feeling too tight, his legs merging together to form a tail, the feeling of his spine popping out and covering the tail. He could feel each and every new leg as it cracked out and a slosh could be heard as if blood was leaking out and onto the ground. The feeling of his side ripping to accommodate the four new arms, something goey dripping down as if coating his arms and tail, slowly turning freezing cold as they hardened. His head felt as if it was splitting, everything to loud as his ears thinned and extended still staying in the same face. At one point he even felt himself detransform. And at last, he felt the pain at the very end spike as if two barbed pieces of wire had shredded through the new appendage, and suddenly the world was no more, even as voices neared.
As for the dpxdc part of it all? He landed in the Kents field.
So basically its like Clark 2.0 just a lot more blood and tears and a much bigger boy that’s very hard to hide. Imma just use bullet points from here.
When Martha and Johnathan go out to inspect what the hell the wracket was, the crying and moans of pain pulling on the poor old couples heart, fully expecting to have to put poor some animal out of its misery they sure weren’t ready for the sight to greet them
Danny in his cursed for is a combination of his two forms with skunk hair that covers two too bigs eyes the actual size of dinner plates, with half of one armored leg the size of Martha, safe to say their was almost no hiding him.
At first he was apprehensive when he woke up in their barn, cleaned as much as they could with hose and a sponge, but slowly they gained his trust.
The towns folk of Smallville were just as apprehensive, if not more so then the monster the Kents took in. But eventually they caved when one day a toddler that got lost was returned unharmed praising this giant half bug boy, calling him the next big hero, and how could they not except him?
When it started to get colder the ladies got together to make a giant six armed sweater for the their dear little critter, because he may not be the cutest but he sure was getting up there next to Pams little Pomeranian, and the men started to renovate the Kents “cellar” or the giant hole Danny had dug in his first days when he wanted to feel safe, under the house. They added additional heating and a latch hidden under the rug in the living room for when Danny wanted to get into the house without getting out of the “cellar”
Danny helps around the farm when he starts to feel better, reaching places that would need a ladder and joints that neither Kents had now a days, and doing some of the heavy lifting here and there
When the Supers finally come around for the holidays, Clark is instantly suspicious of the new “cellar”, but with a warning glare sent his way he put his hands up and just got settled in, no matter how much he wanted to investigate
Jon, though, didn’t seem to get the message and immediately went to explore the new space
Now obviously Danny had tunneled further down for the winter, branching out all the way to the actual little town. The occupants fine as long as the critter doesn’t burst the pipes again
So Jon only sees a warm basement with a bunch of tunnels leading to different places and wants to know where they go, and like any good Super uses his x-ray vision only to see this giant centipede human looking thing rounding the corner into the main tunnel
Danny, scared to move cause he got used to people just treating him like a lil kid, stars at the actual thirteen year old, fear clear as day, and could only cover his too long ears as the boy screamed
Jon rushing out, it met with the frantic Kent family asking whats wrong while Martha and John marches over shaking their heads and muttering
Danny is then introduced on the spot
I’ll reblog this with the art tmr! There’s more I want to add but imma stop for now
You know what I never see explored?
"Not on MY watch!" Superfan Dash Baxter. The young, limnal, quarterback built like a tank and willing to hit like one.
Because let's be real here. Imagine that scenario: Dash, heading to practice with his Bros. His best friends. The team. When? Oh shit! It's PHANTOM! Best day EVER right?
Except it's NOT.
Somethings wrong. He's not as graceful as he usually is. There is no clever comebacks. He looks beat up, man. What HAPPENED? Everyone looks confused when Dash looks around. But before he can call up to him?
Phantom is Shot Out Of The SKY.
Hits the football field HARD. The entire team is already running. Full sprint. It's those fucking GIW. Already driving onto the field and tearing it up. Jumping out, weapons primed.
Phantom's not... oh god, he's not getting up.
He looks hurt. Really hurt. Those bastards are closing in.
Dash's team? Has his back. They're also fans. Friends of his. Not a single one hesitates. They put their BACKS into it and welcome these sick fucks to Tackle Practice. With a follow up of "Taste Your Own Teeth". Amity special, coach would be proud.
But Dash... fuck, he can't wail on these guys AND protect Phantom at the same time. Kwan tells him to go. Throws him his keys. His car is least shit. Dash owes him SO many pizzas for this. First pick on movies for LIFE, man.
It hurts to leave his team behind. His best friend. But Dash has to GO. He can already hear the Fentons closing in. He grabs Phantom, his HERO, and runs for his life.
Barely manages to peel out of there in time. Floors it. Calls Paulina, obviously. She and Star are doing a spa day thing. She picks up because she KNOWS he wouldn't bother her if it wasn't serious. And-!
Oh...
Oh fuck.
In the rear view mirror. The Fentons and GIW just screeched onto the road behind him. Closing distance FAST. What does he do? Paulina he can't... he WON'T hand Phantom over!
And of course she understands. For God's sake, she in LOVE with the guy. He's never heard her sound so scared and furious. They'll get phantom over her twice dead body. She and Star are making some sort of noises, chanting, and...?
Giant Amazons with swords? GHOST Amazons. Suddenly in the road, jumping over his car to attack the cars behind him. Paulina what the FUCK?? She been talking to her Abuela, APPARENTLY. Who's friends aunt's "roomate" was particularly good at communicating with the dead. So OBVIOUSLY Paulina got her to send notes and studied them in secret.
Gotta be able to speak to you future husband's family in their native language. You win brownie points. Gives her a step up. "Not the point"? It's kind of a point! Giant warrior women! Who-?
Paulina made friends while practicing.
Of course she did. Why is he even REMOTELY surprised she chose the giant terrifying Amazons to be beasties with? He's know her for years. He should know better by now.
.....he feels small asking. Hates that his voice shakes. But... but what do they DO, 'Lina?
What he hates even more is the little shake in his childhood friends voice, even though she's trying to sound certain and strong. What they Do? What they DO is Dash drives his ass the her house, gets in her BETTER car, which she is going to load up, and they leave Amity.
She has LOADS of money. All sorts of jewelry. They're very last season. Frankly, she.. she can't WAIT to pawn them if they have too. They just have to drive. Get Phantom as far away from those freaks as possible. Get help.
And? It could go so many ways from there? Paulina LOVES Phantom. How will she reconcile that with her views on Fenton? How will Dash? Seperated from their roles as "the popular ones" and "the crazy people's son". Knowing that... that Danny likes her TOO.
But she's been AWFUL to him. She said so much. DID so much.
Do the even? LIKE each other? Or just the IDEA of each other? The person they made up in their heads.
They're afraid, tired, on the run. But free from school, the expectations of others, the baked in histories of a small town. Who ARE they as people? Do they like each other? COULD they?
I want to believe that Paulina really means it. That no one is at their best in middle and high school. They say and do stupid, mean, shallow shit. Because the world presses and presses and tells them it's all they are worth. Because they don't know who they ARE yet. Because she is a child. Not yet eighteen.
And Danny isn't perfect either. He saw a pretty, pretty face and got distracted by it. Didn't see how HARD she works. How smart she is. How ambitious and brilliant at reading people.
Are they trying to get to an Embassy? To Paulina's extended Family to the south, who would most certainly take them in, and would gladly fight gods for them? Or is this a crossover? Are they going towards other Heros? Older ones?
Is Paulina planning to pull a Lois Lane and Cause Problems On Purpose? Is Dash HAUNTED by "oh fuck, Wes was right." And now knows he's gonna have just... just WALK UP TO THEM. Broad ass daylight. Like "hello, I clearly know your secret identity! Please don't kill me!"?
Whatever the plan? Danny is in the back row of Paulina's once nice, now beat to hell car, bleeding irresistibly damaging acidic ecto-blood all over the seats. Wrapped up like a mummy. Texting Tucker.
The live tweets from Amity are... An Event. A Spectacle for the ages. His parents KNOW now, have speed run their grief STRAIGHT to RAGE, directed that rage at the GIW, and gone to WAR. Once a Fenton, always a Fenton. Jazz was right. "Anti-ghost" sentience testing once a week DID pay off.
Was it a pain in the ass? Absolutely. But results don't lie. He clearly passed. Is clearly sentient, emotional, and their son. All in hard numbers they ran themselves. Will it stop them attack FULL ghosts? Jazz has no idea. But it sure did convince them to put the GIW in a hole and fill it with concrete.
Danny's getting reports of "you SHOT MY BABY!" Being shouted in public. Sam has decided to channel her frustration at being unable to help him into Full Goth Dramatic Shit Stirring. Non-waterproof mascara, disheveled hair. Clutching a picture of him. Dramatic howling and weeping in the arms of her parents.
Apparently now that he's presumed DEAD, the Mansons ALWAYS loved him. Like a SON to them. A sweet, innocent child. Their daughters friend! The GIW are monsters and child killers, they decry.
And the Red Huntress is... Oh, yikes. Yeah he should call her. Val is one more bad thing happening from her villian origin story. At least she... PROBABLY... has killed anyone yet. Note to self: when Danny can actually move torso again, buy Valerie soothing anti-stress...everything. All the things. She responds to stress by punching. Deliver from safe, non-punchable distance.
All in all? My Dash? Needs more Dash! Give the popular kids a chance to prove they aren't just cardboard cut outs! That they can grow beyond the roles high-school and society has pushed them into! Give them some trauma! Why only Danny? Spread the psychic damage!
DP - The Bell Tolls For Amity
I'd like to see a fic where Phantom is captured due to the combined efforts of Valerie, the Fentons, the GiW, & Vlad's funding along with what is essentially Master's Blasters.
He's taken in & experimented on for months. Vlad provided a collar that kept Danny from both using his powers & turning back. (This, however, proves to have physical health issues for him.) But during that time, the town & everyone who helped to get him captured, become intimately aware of just how much Danny Phantom did for them.
The ghost attacks are relentless. They come even in the middle of the night. None of them had realized just how devastatingly powerful some ghosts were. Even Vlad is taken aback by the reality of his little badger's workload. Turns out, only a fraction of the baddies that Daniel fought on a daily basis were on the businessman's payroll.
Again, he underestimated the boy & again it'll be his undoing. He's gonna have to figure out that Danny doesn't 'play hero' just for funsies, but because if he didn't, his town would be a fucking crater. Some people have these things called responsibilities & if they don't perform them, bad things happen. It's like plumbers; it's a shitty job, but if someone didn't do it, there'd be piles of the stuff everywhere. Vlad's just gonna have to come to terms with this fact.
The hunters are only able to contain the weaker ghosts & it usually takes multiple hunter teams working together to capture the stronger ones. Red Huntress is the best at containing them, but even she's having great difficulty.
The attacks are brutal & unforgiving. There's much more property damage & an uncomfortable amount of human deaths, but now THE HUNTERS are the ones being blamed for it rather than Phantom, because *gasp* he's not there.
Worse yet, the ghosts (minus Skulker) are actually thanking them for getting rid of the nuisance & mocking them for vilifying their Tutelary Psychopomp, which Maddie scoff at, being convinced that such classifications were just part of superstitious ghost myth. Jack, though, seemed to go pale because he had grown up in a hunter family that often did a lot of research on that type of thing, so he knew that Tutelaries & Psychopomps were real, but didn't say anything due to his wife not believing him when he spoke of such things. Spectra & Bertrand especially enjoyed tormenting them. Always mocking the GiW for their uselessness & being just as much of a hazard to humanity as any ghost. Always hinting at something to the Fenton's that they're never able to fully pinpoint consciously, but subconsciously, shutter to even contemplate. The fact that they keep pointing out just how terrible & neglectful they are as parents really pisses them off too.
Not to mention the fact that Danny Fenton disappeared around the same time as Phantom was taken, convincing the Fentons that he's behind their son's absence. They frequently utilize their deal with the GiW of being allowed to run their own experiments on Phantom to also demand where Danny is & take out their growing worry-fueled frustration & stress on him. I figure the things they discover about Phantom would be similar to the story 'Phantom of Truth.' Very grim, but would absolutely recommend.
The townspeople rally against the hunters & Vlad, even more so than before. They demand that they return Phantom, stating that he was a better protector. Sure, he wasn't perfect, but he at least did better than them. Even many of those who had originally opposed his existence in their town, raged for the ghost boy's return. Though, many of them did so for selfish reasons, stating that he had a responsibility to save them.
Stress & fatigue mounts. Vlad wanted to wait until Daniel was broken from his rebellious stage before rescuing him as Plasmius, in hopes that the boy would be more susceptible, but now he's loosing money by the bucket-full trying to contain the problem. People are suing him for endangerment because he had a hand in having Phantom taken away. Sure, he has enough money, power, & lawyers to not have to pay a dime to them, but it's a headache to have to appear in court every few days.
Also, the ghosts were getting to be unmanageable to the point where if Daniel didn't get out soon, Vlad would have to start saving the town himself & we all saw how he fled from Vortex without really even trying to fight him. He didn't even show up to fight Undergrowth or Nocturn. He could possibly negotiate with ghosts like Aragon, but I feel like Vlad doesn't fight battles he doesn't know for sure that he can win & likely prefers fights where he can outright overpower the enemy.
As for Spectra, I hc that she had taken the place of one of Vlad's primary doctors or nurses back when he was in the hospital for ecto-acne & is, at least somewhat, responsible for his extreme decline in mental health. Also, while I do think that Jack & Maddie likely didn't try to visit him as often as they should've because they're oblivious & might be neurodivergent & have object permanence issues like that, I don't think they outright abandoned him like Vlad thinks they did. I figure, they tried to see him maybe once or twice a year or sent him letters, but every time they did, Spectra was there to turn them away or destroy the letters.
Anyway, sure, against lower-powered ghosts like the Box Ghost, Lunch Lady, Klemper, ectopi, & other ghostly animals, the hunters did just fine. They could even manage when under attack from Skulker, Ember, Technus, Desiree, & such provided at least 2 hunter teams were working together.
Though, they usually needed specific aid for the latter. With Ember, the Fentons are able to use their Fenton Phones to negate her sound-based hypnotism. Against Desiree, Jack was able to figure out that he could simply wish her into the thermos, though not before a lot of damage was done. But in situations like Skulker & Technus, they often needed to recruit Tucker Foley to defeat them. Even despite this, every battle was hard won & typically left the hunters gravely injured.
Youngblood just ran free for the most part because none of the hunters could see him. It wasn't until Jazz Fenton mentioned that only kids could see him & the Fentons reinstated the Ghost-kateers that they gained headway.
Even still, most of the hunters were rarely able to capture the stronger ghosts & actually maintain their grip on them. Red Huntress & the Master's Blasters had the most success. The others could only seem to manage to capture ghostly animals when working as individual teams. One time, the GiW caught the Box Ghost & proceeded to experiment on him, but then the Lunch Lady broke in & saved him. This traumatizes the Box Ghost & eventually leads to a version of him more like the one from Ultimate Enemy.
There was also a time when the Fentons caught Ember & did the same to her. Similarly to with the Box Ghost, Skulker saved Ember, but by that point she was in really rough shape. It took a long time for her to fully repair the damage done. Now, Skulker has a personal grudge against the Fentons & he comes specifically for them now. Not because he wants to add them to his collection, but because they fucked up.
Then, the more heavy-hitting ghosts began to show up: Fright Knight, Undergrowth, Vortex, Nocturn & Aragon.
When those more powerful ghosts started to terrorize the town, it was devastating. It was practically a ghost town of crumbling buildings. Luckily, Vortex didn't care for Amity, specifically. Anywhere he could do his art was good for him, so he just left the town for the larger world once he got sufficiently bored enough.
Undergrowth had only been defeated weeks after he appeared. The hunters had all been beaten on the first day & the plant ghost had specifically targeted Sam again, turning her into his plants' mother again. He'd only lost when Sam had snapped out of his mind control & turned the tides on him, discovering that she could control the Blood Blossoms that the Fentons had been experimenting with without trouble. It's possible that getting too close to the flowers caused the mind control to wear off faster. Afterwards, Sam realized that she had retained some control over plants & ghostliness even after Undergrowth's defeat, but it wasn't enough yet to be an effective replacement for Danny. None of the hunters knew why they were suddenly freed because Sam specifically hid her new powers from them so they wouldn't take her away like they did Danny.
Fright Knight only wrecked havock on Halloween & could be contained in a pumpkin. Though, none knew until Sam Manson informed them of such under the guise of goth lore & even then, most of the hunters scoffed at the idea of using a magic spell. Especially Maddie with how scientifically & empirically her mind works. But as 3-4 AM approached, when Fright Knight would be at his most powerful, & the hunters' numbers dwindled; Team Phantom minus Phantom himself came in & proved the incantation's worth, absolutely stunning the hunters. Team Phantom had been waiting for the knightly ghost to get cocky & let his guard down enough for them to make their move.
Only Valerie, Maddie, & Agent O had managed to escape the Soul Shredder's edge that night. It was only good fortune that Jack survived because a few Ghost-kateers, all-but one of the Master's Blasters, & a large portion of the GiW agents that had come to fight had been so seriously injured before getting cut, by either Nightmare or Fright Knight's other powers, that they died afterward.
The Fentons tried to induct the team into the Ghost-kateers & the GiW tried to offer them a spot as official junior GiW, but none accepted. The last remaining Master's Blaster quit, stating that it was bullshit having to deal with all this. He'd been promised an easy job & lots of easy money. Well, it was neither, so he outtie!
Also, there's no way the hunters have any earthly idea how to fight a freaking dragon. Not without a hint as to his power source at least & Team Phantom couldn't allow the amulet into their hands. So, instead, they handled it with the Red Huntess' help.
Also keep in mind that Danny actually had some mixture of help when dealing with Aragon, Fright Knight, & Vortex. He didn't beat them outright, so how could a handfull of mediocre at best hunters hope to do it even all together & with help when Danny couldn't on his own?
Though, it turns out that it wasn't just the regular rogue's gallery causing problems. Due to, as they call it, the residant Tutelary/Psychopomp not being there to guard the Gate, quite a large amount of new enemies have turned up to try their hand. Because of this, Team Phantom doesn't even have any idea how to take them out other than the basics.
And not even just enemies, many non-violent ghosts were appearing in an attempt to satiate their unfinished business to try & finally move on. Whether it has to do with some work they couldn't finish in the Zone or they simply wanted to say goodbye to their loved ones or just see them one last time to be sure they're okay.
As per @lilmia-casand's suggestion, many followers of Duul Aman come to try & take back their pharaoh one way or another & it results in Tucker obtaining some small amount of power himself. However, instead of electrical abilities, he gets dunemancy or sand magic. As well as experiencing flashbacks of his previoius life which is where he learns said dunemancy. This also results in a bit of identity crisis & eventual maturing of his character as he tries to figure out what this means for him as a person. He even learns that the talent for archery that he discovered when helping to usurp Aragon from the throne of Mattingly might've been something left over from when he was Duul Aman.
Anyway, eventually, the team gets desperate & brings in Ellie who helps them bring in Valerie, who takes a whole week to get over the fact that she'd tortured her ex.
Yes, she's traumatized & feels so guilty, but she's also now officially part of Team Phantom.
Afterwards, the team officially becomes a hunter team publically & makes their own suits to fight ghosts in.
Sam wears a purple tunic with black racing stripes down the sides & black tights, black gloves, & a black, bat-shaped domino mask. Finally, she had black combat boots with buckles, spikes, & steel, skull-shaped toes. The black detailing around the neck & at the ends of her gloves & boots have a triangular shape to them. Her belt is black & has a lot of guns because she's the marksman of the group. She & Jazz also have these newly-invented retractable Fenton whips that they're learning to use.
Tucker wears a white hazmat with an orange 'Y' covering his chest, reaching up to his shoulders, which are covered with blue shoulder pads, & down to his belt. The branches of the 'Y' disappear under the shoulder pads that have Danny's DP symbol on them, then reappear to become a pair of racing stripes down the length of the arms before disappearing again under the gloves. The 'Y' on his front is mirrored on his back by an 'X'. He also wears blue elbow pads. He wears a white helmet with a blue visor that covers most of his head except his mouth & chin. His visor provides statistics, can wirelessly access his PDA & Danny's Ghost Files, & has built in Fenton Phones, night vision, infrared & thermographic vision, & a Fenton ectogram so he can see an outline of ghosts when they're invisible. (He learns that as he becomes more liminal, he'll get better at seeing in the dark on his own until he no longer needs his helmet to have a night vision built in, so he takes it out.) His gloves & boots are black with blue spots on his ankles, toes, & fingertips, as well as blue bands for the hems & his pants are orange, camo cargos full of pockets where he keeps his ghost hunting equipment. While Tuck is usually the Software Guy of the group with Danny being the Hardware Guy, he does often assist Danny, so he has enough knowledge to know what he's doing.
Jazz has a tunic the same color as her mom's suit, black tights like Sam's & black boots & gloves. She also wears a basic black domino mask. Her weapons of choice are the Fenton Peeler, the Jack-o-Ninetails, the Boo-Staff which is just an ecto-treated bo staff.
On all of their shoulders is Danny's symbol, showing everyone who they were aligned with.
As they work on finding a way to save Danny, they look into an idea that Sam had. Jazz has more knowledge of biology than the others having originally wanted to be a brain surgeon like her Aunt Ann. And recently, she'd been studying ectology & ectobiology out of necessity to help Danny whenever he gets really hurt &, as much as she hated to admit it, she was pretty good at it.
She tested it & found out that their plan could work, but only on herself. She would say Sam & Tucker too but, she'd get to that later. Anyway, because they had been exposed to & adapted to ectoplasm being present in their bodies enough over the years for it to work.
Jazz had been close to it her whole life & adapted due to proximity much like Danny had. Meanwhile, Sam & Tucker had also started adapting to it since being friends with Danny & spending time at his house, but much more slowly due to not living there. Their adaptation got even quicker after Danny became Phantom. Now, normally, they still wouldn't have been adapted to it enough yet, but Jazz discovered that they still had ecto-acne (though it was mostly dormant, thus making it less ecto-acne & more ecto-herpies). Which Tucker & Sam were both appalled at the thought that Vlad gave them both ecto-herpies.
Ellie looked forward to telling Vlad that Jack had given him ecto-herpies with every fiber of her being & couldn't wait to tell Danny.
Anyway, after Ellie had recovered from falling face-first onto the floor, laughing until her sides hurt & tears ran down her cheeks, Jazz relayed that due to the ecto-herpies (which brought on another chuckle from Ellie) they were now not only compatible, but slowly being turned into Halfas like Vlad had, Sam & Tucker's were happening even more quickly due to their recent repossession by Undergrowth & the encounter with Tucker's subjects of a past life. Because of this, there was no need for either Sam or Tucker to go through with the process because it'd already started for them. They just had to wait for it to crop up again. Thing is, it would be painful & slow, but because they had the soda contamination neutralized, it wouldn't be quite as painful as it had been for Vlad.
Valerie would be unable to go through with the process because she hadn't had any contact with ectoplasm until after her dad lost her job.
Jazz informed her that her new suit was actually slowly making her more compatible, but that it'd still take years for it to get there, which was just fine with Valerie, who was still struggling with her ectophobia. But, she wouldn't become a Halfa like Sam & Tucker would because she didn't contract ecto-herpies. Instead, she was becoming fully Ecto-Liminal.
(Now, this is all just based on Jazz's limited understanding of ectoplasm & how it works in relation to organic material.
The reality is that 99% of the population wouldn't survive the process. Jack & his kids could due to not only being a Legacy to a death diety, as well as a dhampir, & his ancestors getting into regular contact with ghosts as well as living in slightly ecto-contaminated places over the course of at least a century & it's just built up in their system over that long amount of time. Add to that, he & Maddie making ghosts their business, it makes their kids 100% compatible. Meanwhile, Sam similarly is a death diety Legacy & her family has lived in Amity for several generations where there's a thin spot in the Veil as well as a Lazarus Pit hidden somewhere & it mixes with the local water. This is enough for her to become a True Halfa eventually with the help of ecto-herpies. Tucker might also be able to, being descended from a Pharaoh, who are known to be descended from Horus, who, himself, was the son of Osiris, who was a death deity. Valerie, however, was not so lucky. She is not descended from a death diety in any respect, so she will not get the benefits of her body being perfectly adapted to ectoplasm. As such, Valerie won't ever be able to become a perfect 100/100 Halfa, but Sam & Tucker will, though it'll take several years to do so.)
Either way, it took them all a while to set everything up, Jazz being grumpy about having to make a new hazmat tunic so that when she went through with it, it actually looked good.
Sam changed Jazz's tunic to be orange & put a stylized JP in the center of her chest.
Then, they turned off the portal & Jazz stepped into it before turning it back on.
Jazz's eyes turned the same shade of purple as her mother's (who's eyes had originally been the same color as Jazz's but had changed due to ecto-contamination early in her career before the Fenton's wore hazmats; this is actually the reason why they began to wear them at all), her hair became an electric blue, & her skin turned the same shade of tan as Danny as a ghost.
Now there was a new Halfa & though it would take some time to get used to her new powers, they now had an advantage against the oncoming hoard.
After the ecto-herpies resurfaces, Sam & Tucker would slowly become more contaminated over time before dying. At which point, Jazz would bring out a defibrillator & revive them & the final stage of the process would begin.
Either way, they're in a better place than before.
Anyway, while Sam & Tucker were waiting for their ecto-herpies to reappear & advance, Danny had previously been working on streamlining the Fenton Ghost Gloves so they weren't quite so bulky & his team could use them more casually. Tucker completed the design, working the circuitry into the fabric itself. Along with that, he put anti-ecto studs on the knuckles. He also then made a few pairs of boots that would do the same as the gloves.
Sam & Tucker both wore a pair, plus wrist rays. Sam & Jazz also had Fenton Phones. Tucker planned to build them into their masks later.
As you can guess, they are set to start working.
There is shock at the reveal of the new, now public "Team Phantom" as well as these 2 new Phantoms & the fact that the Red Huntress had teamed up with them.
The Fentons expressed pity that the ghosts had managed to take in such young minds, especially the Red Huntess who they thought had had a very promising future as a hunter, while the GiW became suspicious of them.
Jazz Phantom makes it public that they will be taking over while her brother is out of commission. This causes a stir as no one had known that Phantom had had a family.
The Fentons, especially Maddie, rejected this idea, saying ghosts were post-humous impressions & not really people. As such, they had no family even provided the two Phantoms had been related in life, that wouldn't matter now because such relations are determined by biology which is something unique to physical organic bodies. Which ghosts didn't have.
To which, Sam goes on a spiel about how ghosts are as sapient as anyone & deserved as many rights as them.
It quickly becomes apparent who the best hunters are though. Team Phantom is at the top & while many adults, especially parents, are against the idea of kids fighting, they are unable to deny how well they do.
Jazz's powers mainly center around the more psychic aspect. Things like telekinesis, telepathy, clairvoyance, limited future sight, psychokinesis, small-scale mind-reading, & psychic empathy. She's actually much like Miss Martian from DC.
She develops a cold core & her element turns out to be water eventually, but that's years down the line & the story will have mostly ended by then.
What happens after all this, I'm not yet sure.
I think that, in the end, Danny will end up saving Amity one final time, but then just never become Phantom again unless it was absolutely necessary.
He'll teach Jazz & Ellie everything he knows about being a halfa & protecting Amity, but after that, he quits.
He's just... so bone tired...
When his parents try to hug him, he refuses to let them touch him. He asks why they were so certain the Phantom took him.
Their answers are less than stellar & he explodes. He tells them everything, showing off all the scars that THEY gave him. This isn't about being accepted anymore, this is about telling them exactly how he feels.
His sister is 18 now, so he asks her if she has the paperwork they filled out for him to get emancipated & when she says yes, he asks her to do it & to adopt him, because he's done.
By the time this happens, the portal is destroyed & Danny is able to blackmail Vlad into making it a law that would make it illegal for anyone to open a permanent portal in Amity or for the Fentons to practice ectology in any capacity, so if the Fentons ever try to do it again, their asses would be in jail.
This doesn't do much as the Veil is so weak in Amity now that temporary portals are now commonplace, so they will likely have to deal with ghosts forever until they figure out how to fix it.
Either way, this isn't about his parents getting justice, it's about them suffering. Ghosts & ectology were what brought them the greatest joy, now that is barred from them forever. Not only that, but his family was Jack's other greatest joy & now he can't even go near his kids due to the restraining order.
That isn't all, Danny tells Jack & Maddie exactly who Vlad is & reveals to Jack that Vlad wants Maddie & had asked her to leave Jack & run away with him. Make it clear that it was also their fault that Vlad was the way he was & then emphasis the fact that Maddie never told Jack about what happened in Colorado.
So, now they will be alone, ostracized, unable to do what gave them greatest joy, & they're marriage is crumbling.
From then on, Danny suffers from intense depression, but he's slowly getting better.
Ellie begins to destabilize again, but Danny then recreates the machine Vlad used on him, but puts Ellie inside & freely gives the mid-morph DNA. She becomes much more stable, but appears to still need something to fully cement herself as a true halfa.
As an adult, he marries Sam, who later dies of ecto-herpies, (so does Tucker) after which she & Tucker are revived via defib, thus becoming halfas. Danny & Sam have kids, Andy & Misty. Then, they take in Ellie who is renamed to Eleanor in order to give her more autonomy over her life.
Sam, as a halfa, has yellow irises, a middle-eastern-type tan, (silvery hair? I'm not sure about this one yet...), & after reaching halfa puberty, her tongue becomes forked (though, it's got the same general human shape, just with a fork, so not long or thin or prehensile; not genguinely snake-like), & grows vampiric fangs. By then, she's married to Danny, so takes the name Phantom. Had she not been at the time, she would've gone with either Manes or Mourner. (Neither of which were originally thought up by me, but they were both good ideas, so here they are.)
Her core is a basic temperature, which is to say, a bit lower than the typical humans body temp. Her primary core element is wood or plant & her secondary is darkness or shadow. She also has a degree of connection to poison & her psyche reacted to her electric revival in a way that allowed her core to form a sort of null reaction to the element. Not only does she have a plant's electroreception which allows her to feel electricity in the air, but she is able to grow vines from her body & she can let one vine become a sort of lightning rod, allow the electricuty to flow down it, into her stomach, then up & out into another vine, which shoots the lightning back out through the end & away much like Iroh's lightning redirection technique, but with vines. She's sorta like if Poison Ivy & Raven from Teen Titans had a clone.
Something about her nature as a ghost makes her anti-gravity core only work half as well & the rest of the team are unsure why as of yet. (A/N: It's specifically because she is an Earth based halfa. Halfas, by default, have anti-gravity cores that only work half as well as true ghosts; however, if their core element is something connected to the sky or weather, then they are allowed 100% anti-grav efficiency. Every other halfa so far has some connection to air, what with Vlad having an electric secondary element, Danny having an ice/starlight primary & wind secondary [thus having an above-average anti-grav control], Ellie having an ice secondary, Jazz having a wind/electric secondary, & Tucker having an electric primary, they all naturally have a higher capacity for anti-grav than Sam, who has a plant/wood primary & a darkness/shadow secondary with some poison alignment.) As a result, Sam can mostly only glide, hover, & slow her falls without assistance. Because of this, she tends to sprout large, leaf-like wings from her back & this allows her true flight. The girlier part of her which she tries her hardest to suppress gets a little giddy at this, her mind telling her she's like a woodland fairy.
However, due to her nature as being specifically a plant-powered halfa, she has immunity to Blood Blossoms & other anti-ghost plants such as Rowan wood. She is also able to control them. It's also of note that she personally adapted to the ecto-herpies in a way that gives her a greater immunity to most poisons & venoms. Not anywhere near to the same degree as Vlad, but still. She also develops venom sacks in her cheeks, but they only activate when frustrated, aggrivated, or in danger, so if she were to bite someone in these situations, she would inject them with a deadly poison. For ghosts, it won't make them fade unless it's severe & they aren't treated. Basic toxicology methods are effective enough to get a ghost to recover within a week. It is, however, very deadly to humans & without a specific antivenom & proper toxicological recovery methods, will result in the individual dying within a few hours of injection.
Because of this, she takes up toxinology, clinical toxinology, & toxicology in order to create an antivenom. She will never forget the time when she was backed into a corner as a human & bit the man who attacked her, despite the fact that he attacked her, she'd never intended to kill him as she believes that all things deserve to live. So, learning that he died because of her was a hard pill to swallow.
Tucker, as a halfa, will get ginger or blood-orange colored irises with really nice espresso/dark, dark chocolate colored skin, like almost 100% raw cocoa dark chocolate, platinum hair with a very metallic sheen, then after reaching halfa puberty, he gets a canid tongue & wolfish/jackal-like teeth. Like, a full-on set, not just canines.
He has a hot core with an electric primary element, a technology secondary, & latent talent for dunemancy with some basic alignment to earth (specifically metal) & poison due to ecto-herpies being what killed him. His psyche reacted to being defibed by interpretting the electricity as being what saved him, this plus his technophilic tendencies leads to him welcoming the electricity as part of him & therefore, he has a much stronger alignment to it than Sam. The poison comes out in a way that allows him to sort of create a computer virus by connecting with technology & willing it.
Tucker is capable of ferrokinesis, but when it's a non-technology sort of metal like pipes or crowbars or manhole covers or hubcaps, it acts as more of an extention of his pre-existing electrokinesis like with Static Shock.
Power-wise, he's much like a clone of Static Shock, Technus, & the Sandbenders from Avatar. He also gets the same power that Danny has that allows him to possess machines & enter games or the internet physically.
Tucker goes by either Tucker Ghouly or Cyber-Tuck. Again, not originally my idea. I don't recall who thought up Tucker Ghouly, but I know that @thesoulspulse came up with Cyber-Tuck & her design for him is fire, so go tell her how smart & creative she is, please.
Anyway, Ellie begins to destabilize again, but much, much slower this time. So, Danny with the help of Dash who has actually really cleaned up his act after going to boot camp & being part of the military as a war medic. He hears about the issue & really begins to buckle into biochemistry, bioengineering, cloning technology, ect.
He discovers that one way to fully stabilize Ellie, not to mention the easiest & most straightforward way, would be to give her a female secondary donor. Sure, another male donor could work, but it's not as viable & would require more scientific fuckery & a whole hell of a lot more money.
Sam volunteers immediately.
With his help, he & Danny build a machine that will house Ellie, take in Sam's DNA, & once Ellie destabilizes, the machine will rebuild her from the ground up with Sam's DNA to help stabilize her around her core. However, due to a lack of quick-aging agent, Ellie will come out as 3-8 years old & will have to grow up the long way.
Interesting, she comes out with more indigo eyes & her ghost form will have more yellow-ish green eyes than Danny's straight Peridot green or Sam's outright yellow.
