The anti-feminist Independent Women’s Voice/Forum (IWF/V) has officially launched its 2024 election agenda. An internal fundraising document provided to True North Research shows one way it is putting that agenda into action is by continuing to try and blunt the horrific repercussions of the Supreme Court overturning Roe, while deploying their veneer of independence to sway centrist and independent voters.  The document details a two-phase plan and a budget that is almost twice the amount it proposed in its 2022 midterm fundraising documents, as reported by The Washington Post. Despite claiming to take no position on abortion, IWF/V launched a PR campaign ahead of the 2022 midterms—the first election cycle following the Dobbs decision—which included advertising trying to convince younger women that reproductive rights were less important than other issues the group listed. 

One way IWF/V’s agenda for this election cycle stands out from its previous midterm action plan is its emphasis on reassuring women that access to contraception is not in jeopardy—despite key voices in the anti-abortion movement making it clear otherwise. The group is a member of Project 2025, a MAGA blueprint that includes detailed plans to attack contraception access, promote the rhythm method, deploy the CDC to increase “abortion surveillance” and data collection and much more.  IWF/V also has a long history of undermining contraception access, though the group has a talking point about supporting over-the-counter availability of the contraception pill.

IWF/V’s “Hope Agenda”

Independent Women’s Forum (IWF), a 501(c)(3), and its 501(c)(4) the Independent Women’s Voice (IWV), are pay-to-play groups that use their “independent” branding to laud right-wing politicians along with the legislative wish lists of some for-profit corporations, such as Juul. Based on its most recent tax filings, the groups reported a combined $8.1 million in revenue. IWF/V has received money from the Koch network, Leonard Leo’s network and funds from secretive donor-advised funds, like the Bradley Impact Fund, the National Christian Charitable Foundation and DonorsTrust.

But Americans are intimately familiar with the political reality of abortion access in this country. 

The majority of states have abortion restrictions or bans in place that make it difficult for pregnant Americans to receive essential healthcare. 

The U.S. Supreme Court continues to be deployed as a tool to potentially limit abortion access nationally (in the mifepristone and EMTALA cases). 

Over 64,000 unwanted pregnancies have been caused by rape in states with total abortion bans that were implemented post-Roe. 

Abortions increased in 2023, the first full calendar year following the Dobbs decision, because people continue to need and seek abortions despite the fractured abortion healthcare landscape unleashed by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Americans are also faced with the political reality that the anti-abortion movement is coming for contraception. That is one reason why IWF/V honing in on messaging around birth control access as something that is safeguarded and supported by the GOP is so troubling. The group itself has a history of opposing contraception access.

Anti-trans messaging is also central to IWF/V’s plan to ‘get out the vote’ in 2024, according to its “Hope Agenda.” IWF also attacked the Right to Contraception Act, using anti-trans scaremongering to falsely suggest that this legislation would “require doctors to sterilize minors.” This is not the only anti-trans tactic the group has used to detract from the devastating impact of the overturn of Roe.  IWF/V is also behind the anti-trans “model” bill the “Women’s Bill of Rights,” which enumerates no rights other than the right to discriminate against transgender people, especially transgender women. This model bill has ostensibly been used by so-called conservative or independent policymakers and groups that allegedly care more about American women, but IWF/V itself has repeatedly attacked pro-woman policies. IWF/V has opposed the Equal Rights Amendment,  federal paid leave, federally subsidized child care, the Violence Against Women Act and Title IX—though it recently backed a watered-down version of VAWA and for decades it sided with men’s sports teams against Title IX spending on women’s sports until it deployed anti-trans messaging about women’s sports.

Ms. Magazine exposes the right-wing Koch/Leonard Leo-funded antifeminist group Independent Women's Forum and their sister groups Independent Women's Voice and Independent Women’s Law Center. These groups claim to be pro-women, but in reality, the policies they support-- such as anti-trans "Women's Bill of Rights" and attacks on abortion access, contraception, and in vitro fertilization-- are harmful to women.

It’s no great secret that I’m a film junkie with a bent toward science fiction. Growing up as a poor, lonely kid in the ghost town that was 1990s West Texas, movies were sometimes the only friends I had on the weekends. They were the storytellers who spun two-hour yarns that snatched me out of the real world like faerie kidnappers come to transport me to some faraway fantasy realm of danger and…

Hi Friends. Quick update on my life. I'm very excited about having new music to share, but I just wanted to let you know that one of the reasons why I haven't been able to participate in the press and promotion leading up to the release of Javelin is bc I am in the hospital. Last month I woke up one morning and couldn't walk. My hands, arms and legs were numb and tingling and I had no strength, no feeling, no mobility. My brother drove me to the ER and after a series of tests—MRIs, EMGs, cat scans, X-rays, spinal taps (!), echo-cardiograms, etc.—the neurologists diagnosed me with an auto immune disorder called Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Luckily there's treatment for this — they administer immuno-hemoglobin infusions for five days and pray that the disease doesn't spread to the lungs, heart and brain. Very scary, but it worked. I spent about two weeks in Med/Surg, stuck in a bed, while my doctors did all the things to keep me alive and stabilize my condition. I owe them my life.

On September 8, I was transferred to acute rehab, where I am now undergoing intensive physical therapy/occupational therapy, strength building etc. to get my body back in shape and to learn to walk again. It's a slow process, but they say I will "recover," it just takes a lot of time, patience, and hard work. Most people who have GBS learn to walk again on their own within a year, so I am hopeful. I'm only in my second week of rehab but it is going really well and I am working really hard to get back on my feet. I'm committed to getting better, I'm in good spirits, and I'm surrounded by a really great team. I want to be well!

I'll keep you posted as I progress. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. And a huge shout out to all the incredible caretakers of the world working night and day to help us heal. They are living saints.

So, what they do when a player isn't able to be in the picture is they have a guy pose in the player's jersey and they just photoshop his head in later. Like 10 years ago the part of Sidney Crosby was actually played by Andrew Taglianetti, twin brother of equipment manager Jon. Looking down there now, they've got a guy in Jansen Harkins' jersey since he's on a conditioning stint in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. They've also got a guy wearing Lars Eller's gear. Not sure where Eller might be.

was scrubbing through some clips of ninjago season 2 - specifically looking at how that scene where garmadon immediately orders his wife be freed and stutters over every other word.

came to the conclusion that these two could've objectively been the funniest couple in the show if the writers were competent, given she's a historian and he's a dramatic threatre kid who has been through all of history.

(SPOILERS if you haven't seen the show yet):

Mxy knocks over a display case that contains the Helmet of Fate. The mystical, god containing item, makes its first appearance, along with Doctor Fate, in More Fun Comics #55 (1940) the panels were done by Gardner Fox and Howard Sherman. The Helmet of Fate is the one controlling the body as it contains the god, Nabu, the Lord of Order. The helmet grants anyone who wears it magical powers and the mantle of the Doctor Fate. Usually the person most associated with the it is Kent Nelson but recent comics had Khalid Nassour take up the Doctor Fate name.

Next we see Mxy pass by the Cosmic Rod of Starman/Stargirl. In the

comics the original owner of the Cosmic Rod was Ted Knigh, the original Starman. The Cosmic Rod he wielded was about the size of a flashlight. It wasn't until Starman #4 (1994) (W: James Robinson, P: Tony Harris, I: Wade Von Grawbadger, C: Gregory Wright, L: John Workman) that his son, Jack Knight took the new and improved Cosmic Rod that his father made and used it for himself to take up the Starman name. The staff would then get passed on to Courtney Whitmore aka Stargirl who at the time took up the name Star-Spangled Kid, when Jack retired the Starman identity to raise his kid. Courtney took up the Starman name as Stargirl and used the Cosmic Rod to carry on the name. The Cosmic Rod gives its wielder flight and energy projection.

Mr. Mxyzptlk then passes over a flight ring in the display. Very good homage to the Legion of Superheroes. Originally the LoSH wore belts to allow their members to fly, but Brainiac 5 was able to make flight rings so they can be less encumbered by the belts as seen in the panel from Adventure Comics #329 (1965) (W: Jerry Seigel, P&I: Jim Mooney, L: David Huffine). The LoSH are a group of young superheroes from the 31st century who are from various parts of the galaxy that fight evil as a team. The group was inspired by reading the history of what Superman did and they want to uphold his ideals and legacy. If they do show up in the show I'll definitely talk more about them.

In another display we see the Soultaker Sword. The sword is associated with Tatsu Yamashiro aka Katana. It and Katana make their first debut in the Brave and the Bold 200 (1983) (W: Mike Barr, P&I: Jim Aparo, C: Adrienne Roy, L: Jim Aparo). The sword was forged by Muramasa, who imbued it with magical properties where whoever kills with the sword, steals the souls of the victim's. Tatsu's husband and children were unfortunately slain by the sword, wielded by her brother-in-law and Tatsu has since then taken the sword and use it to avenged those who were slain by him. Because of the swords magical properties, it can be used to harm Kryptonians. Yes magic is a weakness for Superman.

When we cut back to the League of Loises ship, Jalana goes Flamebird on everyone and name drops Comet. This is a very good homage to Comet the Super-Horse. Comet made his first debut in Adventure Comics 293 (1962) (W: Jerry Seigel, P: Curt Swan, I: George Klein, L: Milt Snapinn) Comet, along with Krypto the Super-Dog, Streaky the Super-Cat, and Beppo the Super-Monkey, formed the Legion of Super-Pets to save the Legion of Superheroes and Superboy from Brain-Globes of Rambat. Give Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow a read if you want to check out a really cool Comet story.

Krypton gets a name drop, Superman's home planet.

Someone on the MAwS team is a Kingdom Hearts fan.

Kryptonite is finally introduced in the show, the most well-known weakness of Superman's. Fun fact Kryptonite made its first appearance not in the comics but on the Adventures of Superman radio show in 1943. It wasn't until 6 years later in 1949 that Kryptonite is introduced in the comics in Superman #61.

At the League of Loises HQ we see MAwS Lois and Mxy walk down the hall with holographic projections of various Loises in the DC multiverse. The one on your left is obviously Lois Prime aka Fleischer Studios Lois the one on your right is Superman the Animated Series Lois. The one next to StAS Lois is Superwoman from Action Comics #60 (1943). The issue was created by Jerry Seigel and George Roussos where Lois dreams of having Superman's powers and saving the day.

As Mxy searches for his hat we see him open up a cache of various weapons that the Loises have collected. Some of them are pretty recognizable like the Card Captor Sakura staff that's by Mxy's head, Guts's giant sword from Berserk above Mxy on the second shelf from the bottom.

As the episode wraps up we see MAwS lois activate the data sphere she took from the headquarters and sees evil Supermen tearing up the city. The first we see is an homage to Overman from Animal Man #23 (1990) (W: Peter Milligan, P: Chas Truog, I: Mark Farmer, C: Tajana Wood, L: John Costanza) and the second is designed after Justice Lords Superman from the Justice League cartoon.

Overman is from a world where all superheroes are part of the government and each one is a clone from him. Justice Lords Superman is from the two-parter episode "A Better World" where his Flash died, Superman kills President Lex Luthor in retaliation and he and the Justice League become dictators. Gotta admit Superman does look pretty cool in that suit.

Draped in red she leant against the rail over looking the ground below as people walked around and kids played. Her blonde white hair loose and flowing with the breeze her eyes red and tear streaks stained her pale cheeks.

“The first born child of Rhaenyra Targaryen. Rightful heir to the Iron Throne, heir of Dragonstone, Princess of the Realm. Y/N Targaryen.” She whispered eyes closed tight as tears run down her face. “I am the sister of Jacerys, Lucerys and Joffrey Valeryon, Aegon the Third and Viserys the Second Targaryen. I am the Daughter of Daemon Targaryen, my blood is the blood of the Dragon” she whimpers as she hears the cries of the Dragons from the Pit as the vicious peasants attack them.

Aemond locked her in the keep, barring her door and ensuring nothing in there would kill her. “You’ll be the last black, I’ll be the last green and I will publicly behead you the day I become King” Aemond told her as he ordered the guards to Barr the door from the outside, that was a month ago. He killed her Dragon first, he fed her to Vhagar. He fed her mother the Queen to Sunfyre saying it was justice for Aegon but he had been the one to kill him. He sent assassins for Jace, killing him and his intended. Joffrey died trying to save the Dragons in the pit.

Still she held out hope, for as long as Daemon breathes they had a chance to save what is left of their family. With each death she felt a part of herself disappear, her heart aching as she remembered her mother’s embrace, Jace’s smile, Luke’s laugh, Joffery’s hugs before bed, Aegon’s scent as she held him close and Viserys’s baby kisses. “Dear Niece I bring news” Aemond said from beyond the door. “Look out your window” He had told her. Obeying she walked to the door and looked outside, mounted on a pike just below the balcony was her Fathers head. The scream the Princess released that day burned into the memories of every person that could hear it, the heart wrenching pain that she felt made their hearts weep.

And that’s how she remained on the balcony, in the position she has been in for hours wishing she could give her father the send off he deserved. She couldn’t do it anymore, she had no one left, her parents died, her brothers were slain, she knew nothing of Aegon or Viserys. “I am Y/N Targaryen, the blood of old Valyria. I ask that you accept this sacrifice, a pure body a pure mind, pure blood, I ask that you use my sacrifice to protect what is left of my blood. Aegon the younger, Viserys the second. Take my life for theirs and grant them protection, guide them to safety and give them the strength to defeat this kinslayer.” She finished as she drew symbols in her spilt blood on the cement of the balcony finishing with one over her heart.

With a clear mind, hearing the impending storm and the thunder booming like a pack of Dragons Roars lighting begins to flash as she feels specks of rain hit her skin. The blood dries black and she knows the sacrifice is sufficient, with one last breath she releases the railing and lets herself fall. “Fire and Blood” she whispers, her back hitting the ground and her neck snaps to the side as she releases what was left of her breath.

Mushroom would go on to write later that the Princesses sacrifice was the only thing that saved her line. Viserys and Aegon the younger were saved by some of the cities people as they rebelled against the Greens killing Aemond, due to the love the people had for their sister their good princess. The boys were raised by the new council that the people formed, until Viserys was of age to wed and begin his reign. “It is for my sisters sacrifice that we are here today, so I would like to introduce my child and heir Princess Y/N Targaryen second of her name” Viserys announced as he held the babe in front of the crowd who cheered.

After life

“I cannot believe you used blood magic!” Rhaenyra scolded as she watched the center of the table watching Viserys introduce his child. “It’s been 13 years mother, get over it” Y/N shot back as she sipped some wine.

“I still can’t believe that one-eyed cunt killed me” Daemon said as he sat across from them. “He killed me first” Luke chimed as he fiddled with his blade. “Can we stop? It’s been years, Viserys is King Aegon his Hand Dragons are not extinct and our bloodline lives on, let it go.” Y/N said as she switched what was shown on the table. “You killed yourself and used blood magic, I will not let that go” Rhaenyra chided.
