Eid Mubarak!!!

I hope everyone had a pleasant Eid today, the weather had warmed up just in time on my end! It was very fun and relaxing to just spend time with my cousins and not have to run from open house to open house today, and that's what sorta inspired this piece. I've usually only been drawing just Fatin so I thought I would mix it up by drawing her with her friend Karam. It's been ages since I last drew them so dressing both Karam and Fatin for an Eid piece was fun to do. I wanted to illustrate them as if they were gossiping about the other guests only to pointedly make eye contact with you, the viewer. They were either talking about you or believing you would enjoy this piece of gossip and want to call you over, your choice. Please click on the image - for some reason, Tumblr made the colors a bit dim.

For those who celebrate, I hope everyone had a pleasant Eid al-Fitr. It might have been difficult to enjoy it given recent world events but I hope this day treated you well, that you and your family had a pleasant and relaxing day, and that you all got to eat something yummy.

Three men have appeared in court charged with terrorism offences over an alleged plan for a gun attack targeting the Jewish community in the north-west of England.

Walid Saadaoui, 36, and Amar Hussein, 50, have been charged with the preparation of terrorist acts between 13 December 2023 and 9 May 2024.

Mr Saadaoui, of Crankwood Road in Abram, and Mr Hussein, of no fixed address, entered no plea when they appeared in custody at Westminster Magistrates Court.

Mr Saadaoui's 35-year-old brother Bilel, of Fairclough Street in Hindley, was tearful as he pleaded not guilty to failing to disclose information about the alleged plans.

The court heard Walid Saadaoui and Amar Hussein had intended to target "the Jewish community in the North West of England and members of both law enforcement and military".

The hearing was told the pair were accused of plotting an attack designed to cause "multiple fatalities using automatic weapons".

Prosecutor Rebecca Waller said the alleged plan had been inspired by the Islamic State group.

'Understandably distressing'

Each of the men appeared in the dock in separate hearings, wearing grey tracksuits and flanked by police and security officers.

Mr Hussein was assisted by an Arabic interpreter, but had no lawyer to represent him.

Asked by the judge whether he wanted to apply for bail, he said: "Do whatever you want."

The other two men spoke only to confirm their identities.

Angelo Saponiere, defending Bilel Saadaoui, said his client was a "family man" who had not known of the alleged plans.

District judge Louisa Ciecóra remanded all the men in custody and sent the case to be heard at the Old Bailey on 24 May.

The men were arrested on 8 May after Greater Manchester Police executed four warrants in Bolton and Wigan.

In a statement, Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts said the details of the case would be "understandably distressing and likely to have a significant impact on the communities within the Greater Manchester and beyond".

"Everyone should feel safe in our region regardless of their religion or race," he said.

"We have been working closely with community groups and key stakeholders to address concerns and we’ll continue to update them throughout this case."

He added that "local officers across Greater Manchester" would continue to "listen and act on concerns".

“The action we have taken so far follows a long-running and carefully managed investigation, and we do not believe that there is a wider risk to the public connected to this case," he said.

"Should you have any concerns about your safety or any suspicious activity in your area, then I would encourage you to contact the police."

Tunis, summer 2010, a few months before the Revolution: Farah, 18 years-old, has just graduated and her family already sees her as a future doctor. But she doesn’t think the same way. She sings in a political rock band. She has a passion for life, gets drunk, discovers love and her city by night against the will of her mother Hayet, who knows Tunisia and its dangers too well.

Millefeuille (2012)

This is the story of a whole country told by Nouri Bouzid through the fate of two girls, Zaineb and Aisha, symbols of the Revolution and the future of Tunisia. Both are fighting for their independence, to win their freedom. Both fight against the religious and cultural shackles established by an archaic society. A society that, while the country is in turmoil, still hesitates between modernity and traditionalism.

Hedi, a wind of Freedom (2016)

Hedi is a wise and reserved young man. Passionate about drawing, he works without enthusiasm like commercial. Although his country is changing, he remains subject to social conventions and lets his family make the decisions for him. While his mother is actively preparing for his wedding, his boss sends him to Mahdia looking for new clients.

A Summer in La Goulette (1996)

During the summer of 1966, on the eve of the Six Day War, Youssef the Muslim, controller on the TGM, Jojo the Jew, king of brik with the egg, and Giuseppe the Catholic, Sicilian fisherman, live with their family in the same building that is the property of the Beji Hajj. The three men are inseparable outside of work, their families live in good neighborhood and share a nonchalant happiness in the small port village of La Goulette in the suburbs of Tunis. Until the day each of their daughters, Meriem the Muslim, Gigi the Jewish and Tina the Catholic, inseparable as their fathers, decide to lose their virginity before August 15 with a boy of another religion than theirs. The first attempt, the wedding day of Jojo's eldest daughter, comes to a halt as a result of the intervention of the alert fathers. When the film ends, the Six Day War begins and breaks this harmony between the communities.

Dachra (2019)

Yasmine, a journalism student, and her two friends, Walid and Bilel, are trying to unravel the mystery of an old crime committed more than 25 years ago. In the middle of nowhere, a woman had been found mutilated and almost dead. Once their investigation is over, they will find themselves in a forest where they will discover a small isolated village called "Dachra". Júnún (2006)

Jùnùn deals with the schizophrenic condition prevailing in Arab societies. He is charged by the party to find his brother Beda, the resistants' leader, and to convince him to lay down his arms, a prerequisite for peaceful negotiations.

Wrangling (2010)

While Zeineb is very religious and wears the hijab, her sister Lilia likes to party and enjoy life to the fullest. Despite their contradictory lifestyles, the two sisters have a real complicity and Zeineb takes a tender and protective look at Lilia's love affair with their neighbor Skander. When the young couple's families meet to decide to marry, the two sisters suddenly find themselves on the same ground: defending their freedom as women in the face of conservative hypocrisy. The film explores with humor and finesse the tug-of-war that women experience in today's Tunisian society.

The Art of Mezoued (2010)

"The Art of Mezoued" tells the story of the life and work of the leading figures of the Tunisian Mezoued (popular song based on the bagpipes). It portrays its pioneers and its living actors, between consecrated stars, fallen stars and rising celebrities: Salah Farzit, Mostapha Gattel Essid, Hédi Donia, Abdelkarim Benzarti and Achraf.The film relates through interviews, testimonies and live concerts in wedding parties and in various places (cafes, cabarets, party room ... ), the dense, eventful and controversial history of the Tunisian popular music Mezoued, its rise and its crises, its musical components and its themes, its territories of deprivation and popular plebiscite, its official exclusion (until 1990) and its phenomenal success carried by popular musicians, with the appearance of "bad boys" and singular talent and by cult songs, sometimes deviant, sometimes protesting or simply funny, saucy and festive.

Gogoși la cuptor

Ingrediente: 9-10 bucăți

1.5 linguri de zahăr

25 g drojdie proaspătă

420 g făină

2 gălbenușuri

1 lingură de ulei

250 g lapte călduț

2 plicuri zahăr vanilat

1 ou pentru uns

Dulceață

Mod de preparare:

▫️Amestecăm drojdia cu 80-100 g lapte călduț și zahărul și lăsăm la dospit pentru 10 minute.

▫️Adăugăm restul ingredientelor și frământăm timp de 12-15 min apoi lăsăm aluatul să dospească până când își dublează volumul. Aluatul trebuie să fie moale dar nelipicios.

▫️Împărțim aluatul în 9-10 bucăți pe care le formăm bile și le lăsăm la dospit pentru 10 min.

▫️Întindem ușor fiecare bilă de aluat începând din mijlocul ei. Punem 1 linguriță plină de dulceață (vă sfatuiesc să folosiți dulceață făcută în casă că cea cumpărată va curge) în mijlocul aluatului apoi unim capetele. Punem bilele obținute cu capătul unit în jos pe suprafața de lucru unsă cu ulei.

▫️Ungem gogoșile cu ou bătut și le lăsăm la dospit pentru cca.10 min.

Dăm tava la copt în cuptorul preîncălzit la 175 °C pentru cca. 25 de min

Hayatımın herhangi bir yerinden benden hoşlanıp da gelip de bunu benimle paylaşmayan olmuş mudur, diye. Belki çocukça, ergence bir düşünce gibi geliyor ama ara sıra düşünmeden edemiyorum.

Uzaktan sevilmiş miyimdir, beni görünce, sırf var olduğum için, sevinmiş midir, akşam benimle ilgili onu mutlu edecek hayaller kurmuş mudur?

Bu hislerini benimle paylaşmayıp kendisiyle yaşamış. Kendine sır gibi saklamış. Kimselere hatta gerçek muhatabına bilel söylememiş. Ne kadar mutlu etmiştir kendisini. Bana normal gelen bir davranışa o kendi gönlünde büyük anlamlara sarmalaşmıtır. Gerçek bir duyguyla karşındakine vermeden iki kişilik mutluluk yaşamıştır.
